Random freezing on a Macbook Air?

Hello,
I am encountering random freezing on my Macbook Air, that has started in the last few weeks.
- Applications will suddenly crash at random points
- Sometimes Lion will pop a translucent grey screen asking me to hold down a power button.
- I can no longer relilably install software updates, it often crashes or reports the download corrupted. Sometimes I succeed after 3 or 4 attempts.
- To try and verify it wasn't malware, I checked with Kapersky AV for Mac (it claims it is clean), and I also manually checked for Flashback (I'm not affected)
- Web browser frequently randomly crash, and I can't run anything that involves 3D graphics
- it still happens even if I disable startup apps
- Sometimes I get the forever beachball and the top bar becomes corrupt or blank
- There is no pattern to this, except some apps seem to crash more often than others
It feels like a "hardware" issue, due to its intermittency/unpredictability/non-repeatability.
I am wondering if either my RAM or CPU is defective?  Or is this something software?
It is a 2010 Macbook Air 11.6", a little more than a year old.   What are my recourse that would result in minimum wasted time:
Sometimes it goes for an hour with no problems (I can even run 3D) and might not be able to demonstrate in front of Apple.
Unfortunately, I did not have the foresight to get AppleCare, so I'll have to expend some time and/or money.
What is least painful?
I first backup my personal files (mostly done, as it's mostly on various cloud services)
1. Assume it's software: Attempt to reinstall OSX, cross fingers it doesn't happen again?    Run a few overnight 3D benchmark tests to 'burn it in' and verify it is not a hardware problem?
2. or Purchase a new Macbook Air & then bring the old Air in, then resell the Air after it's repaired?  (Minimum downtime method, high cost method)
3. or Apple Store & try to get it repaired/serviced.   (Lower cost method)
4. or trade it in for a discounted refurbished 2011 Air?   (If the Apple Store does this sort of stuff)
Thanks,
Mark Rejhon

I am able to drag photos from iPhoto to Contacts on my MacBook Air. I resize the iPhoto window to make it smaller, open Contacts, select the Contact in question and click the Edit button at the lower right of the contact. I then drag the photo from iPhoto.
The step that I'm guessing that you might be missing is clicking the Edit button at the lower right of the contact.

  • Bootcamp freezing on new macbook air

I got a new macbook air with the new intel chip. I installed windows 7 and the usb ports dont work as well as the keyboard.  The mac OS works fine. The only button that works is the power button. I have 10 laptops with the exact same issue. Anyone else having the same issue? Any fixes or things that I can try?

I had the same problem when installing Win7 using bootcamp. My solution which seemed to work on two MB Air with out any problem is as follows:
         - Create the bootable OS (it's not part of the solution; you can use CD drive if you choose to)
         - Create the driver using USB
         - Leave the driver USB plugged during the entire installation of the Win7 (this seemed to be the solution to the freezing problem right after installation and driver not loading)
         - Partition and follow installation instruction
When the Win7 installation is complete, it'll automatically start installing the driver from the USB drive.

  • 10.6 definitely won't stop random freezing on my MacBook 13"

    Hello.
I have a MacBook white I bought two years ago.
When I bought it it already came with 10.5 installed.
A couple months after I bought it I upgraded its RAM from the original 1G to 4G, as well as changed its harddrive from the original 120G to a Seagate 500G.
Nothing stopped working, in fact I thought I had (or still have, hopefully) a very nice machine.
When apple released Snow Leopard I felt tempted to upgrade after looking through the neat new features. I went to the store and bought my copy of Snow Leopard and made an upgrade of my machine.
This is when I started experiencing ****!
From the moment I upgraded to 10.6 my once steady and consistent mac started random freezing and showing me that extremely obnoxious beach ball (a.k.a. beach ball of death).
From September 2009 (when I made the upgrade) until last month (March 2010) I kept trying and digging for solutions to this issue. I tried literally everything I could find in the forums, both apple discussion forums and other mac related forums. From resetting the SMC to doing a fresh 10.6 installation (yes, from scratch).
I'm very unfortunate to say that nothing, nothing worked. The random freezing kept happening on 10.6.
This was when I decided getting back to 10.5.
I even did a full RAM test using memtest (I left it running for a whole day on single user mode) and all tests passed.
10.5 is working nicely so far, I have been testing it full load for a couple of days and no freezes so far.
Now here's my question: why in the world 10.6 won't work for me? I really want it but I can't afford having a Vista like OS in my mac.
Anybody has any clues? Any probing suggestion I might have missed?
    Thanks a lot!

Well, I only got to read your reply after exchanging the hard drives.
In any case I got 10.6 freezing with the old HD as well, which is sad!
Regarding the RAM I bought, I got it from a local electronics store and it is supposed to be a kingston module. I never verified the modules in the Kingston website though.
I'll get them off and try to verify the authenticity of the modules with Kingston, and will give a try with the old memory modules.
From the top of my head I can't figure what kind of incompatibility can there be with a working module that has the exact specifications of the macbook I own. In any case, it is worth the check.

  • Random Black Screen Flash Macbook Air and Apple LED display

So I have started to see an issue with the new Macbook Air and my Apple LED 24" display. Randomly only maybe 2-3 times a day the screen will go black and then quickly come right back, like a blink. Anyone else see this behavior? This does not happen with the internal built-in screen on the MBA. Feels like a driver or software issue to me.

    Hi Steve,
I have the same model you've mentioned. Although my issue is not the same, at times when I open my laptop up, I have a black screen, and have to manually power-down. I can tell the keys still work, as I use the brightness buttons and can tell the contrast is getting higher.
Also last night my keyboard/trackpad stopped working, however the power button did bring up the shutdown options but the trackpad still did not work.

  • Random freezing on new Macbook

    Hello,
I just purchased a reconditioned Macbook from the Apple Store for my wife for University. We're coming from a PC platform, so we're both new to this.
The only extra sofware I installed is: Office 2008, VLC video player, and VMWare Fusion with Windows XP Pro for her 'odd' applications.
These are pretty vague descriptions, but I am not expecting this from a new Mac..
Crash #1: Using MSN Messenger that came with Office 2008. I went to shut down and it was still running, clicked shut down, computer froze and would not respond to keyboard commands or mouse clicks. Had to hold power to reboot. Force quit did not work.
Crash #2: Using Word 2008 for Mac. Randomly highlighted things before system locked up, force quit not working, had to reboot as above.
Crash #3: Using Firefox. We have 'tapping' set up on the trackpad, so she accidentally tapped and dragged a link (like dragging a picture off a website), then scrolled over some Flash ads and it locked up the software. The link was permanently 'dragging' even after letting go of mouse button. We could not click on anything, keyboard not functional, force quit not working, every window would freeze overtop of next window as we tried to tab thru.
#2 and #3 happened in the same day. She is not impressed and is doubting the Mac choice. We hate PC but we are not expecting this from a new Macbook. Like I said it's very vague but what could be causing this? I ran the Disk Utility and fixed any permissions, found no errors while verifing the disk, and also ran the Hardware test when booting up (held D with install disk in). I did a quick test, no errors found.
People will say "ram" or "hdd", but really it seems like a software issue. I don't know, any other utilities I can run to see if something is conflicting with something else?
Cheers guys, really appreciate your time

You might want to do an archive and install?

  • DVI external display freezes while charging MacBook Air.

My Samsung SyncMaster SA300 freezes my MacBook when connected, but when I unplug the charger for the MacBook, it works fine.  Very annoying...

You can, but, some programs still can cause the display to come on because of their demands of the graphics chip.  So you have to sometimes keep an eye on the display so it doesn't overheat the keyboard or run the battery low.

  • Powerpoint freeze on Macbook Air

I'm a professional presenter to big audiences and PowerPoint constantly freezes on my MacBook Air. Incredible frustrating and about to force me to go back to Windows ;-(  I've seen lots of posts saying that a potential work-around is to reinstall Office and never update the Mac OS. Common consensus is that this problem has been introduced by Apple (not Microsoft)... what's the reality and is there a fix? I'm on 10.9.5. Thanks.

    Where has it gone?
Good question. Things don't disappear on their own, so perhaps it was inadvertently moved. Use Spotlight to search for it - Click the Spotlight "magnifying glass" symbol at the upper right of your Mac's menu bar, and type Powerpoint. If you find it, move it back to the Applications folder where it belongs.
If you still can't find it, you'll have to download it again from Microsoft. You will probably need the license key or whatever Microsoft uses to track your purchases.
Please tell me you did not install any so-called "cleaning" utility such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanser" or "MacKeeper" or similarly categorized program...? Garbage utilities like that will make a mess of things.

Why does MS Word 2008 freeze on my MacBook Air running 10.8.3?

Please post questions regarding Office on MIcrosoft's own forums for their Mac products, as they would more focused on the issue than an Apple forum:

  • T420i random freezing

    Hello all,
I have a T420i with a fresh install of windows 7 ultimate 64 bit installed. It is on bios 1.45, with all latest drivers installed. Occasionally (under heavy load or flash-based usage), the system just freezes (no mouse movement, no ctrl+alt+delete), and I have to hard shut off the system. I have just disabled active protection system to see if the condition improves, will report later. Any ideas on causes? Thanks.

    Hi,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m really sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad T420i is randomly freezing.
Ensure that air vents are not blocked and there is a proper air flow. Also, check the speeds at which the fan is spinning.
    1. Remove all external devices and restore factory default hardware configurations by uninstalling all non-bundled devices.
    2. Power on the machine with AC adapter and battery then check whether the problem still exists.
    3. Go to BIOS by tapping F1 while Lenovo logo appears. Choose Config -> Power and ensure the below settings are as recommended.
    Intel(R) SpeedStep technology [Enabled]
    Mode for AC [Maximum Performance]
    Mode for Battery [Maximum Performance]
    Scheme for AC [Maximum Performance]
    Scheme for Battery [Maximum Performance]
Then press F9 [Save and Exit].
    4. Ensure Power Manager is configured correctly. Open Power Manager, Click Switch to: "Basic", Click "Power Plan" tab, Select "Maximum Performance", Press Apply then click Ok.
    5. Boot up and press F8 to enter Safe Mode to check if the boot up speed is normal.
    6. Input "msconfig" and click the tab "Startup" to disable all. Reboot and then shut down. If problem resolved, narrow down to specific startup file.
    7. Run a complete virus scan.
    8. Run Lenovo Solution center diagnostics and check if there is any hardware failure.
    9. Run Lenovo system update and Windows update. Ensure that BIOS and drivers are up-to-date.
Also, check in event viewer to see what exactly is causing the freeze.
Hope this helps! Post back if issue persists.
    Best regards,
    Mithun.

  • Macbook Air 2012: intermittent, random freezes of trackpad and keyboard lasting a few seconds each

There have been a few other people to have reported this problem, but there has been no consistent solution for me on my Macbook Air 13" 2012, running 10.8.4.
What happens is this: while typing, the built-in keyboard and trackpad will suddenly lock up at the same time, randomly, intermittently, and for just a few seconds before returning to normal. This has been true through all the updates of 10.8.x since I bought the system last year.
During the freeze, one of the three behaviors occurs:
    1) both keyboard and trackpad are completely unresponsive
    2) both keyboard and trackpad get really slow, with high latency. Keys pressed show up much later or have to be pressed several times before registering. Trackpad is jumpy if it moves at all.
    3) key gets stuck, sometimes the BACKSPACE key, which usually results in several dozen emails getting deleted or entire paragraphs, or rows and rows of the same stuck key. Pressing other keys does nothing.
I've spoken online with various other people who have the same problem and confirmed that the built-in keyboard and trackpad seem to be joined together whenever this problem strikes. You never see one freeze without the other also freezing.
Also, these commonly-recommended solutions don't work:
    a) Reset PRAM. Done this many times. Does nothing.
    b) Bring it in to Apple. Did this too. They replaced the keyboard and trackpad but the problem remains.
    c) Clearing caches in safe mode. No improvement.
    d) Removing "com.google.keystone.deamon.plist" and "com.google.keystone.agent.plist" doesn't seem to work either, even though the errors and behavior are exactly the same for me as for george.e.gonzalez in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19702976#19702976
These files do come back, though, thanks to Google Software Update. The keystone software appears to be part of Google Chrome, although I cannot confirm this.
    e) I DO have Google Android File Transfer installed like one other person reported; they said uninstalling it fixed the problem. Unfortunately, that has not worked for me. Also, Android File Transfer is installed (same version 1.0.50.2266, same Mac OS 10.8.4) on an older 2008 Macbook, and it works fine, which points to something on just this Macbook Air as being the cause.
    f) I don't use the Radio Silence firewall app--can't remove it.
    g) I don't have the telldus device or whatever it is, so I don't have the "com.telldus.service.plist" to remove.
    h) Completely clearing out /Library/LaunchAgents, /Library/LaunchDaemons, and /Library/StartupItems doesn't do anything.
    i) Repairing permissions or repairing the volume does nothing.
    j) Reinstalling the OS fresh does nothing.
    k) I don't have an external trackpad, mouse, or keyboard for testing while the freezing happens, but the machine itself seems to be working, just not the built-in input devices, which are on the same USB bus.
    l) Pressing ESC does not stop the key stuck situation, as it does for some people.
It feels to me like a hardware problem, not an OS problem, and it feels like a USB bus issue. I have noticed that when I insert USB flash drives, I get the same lock-up for a few seconds, something which my other Macs don't do.
I've also noticed various USB errors in the Console around the same time (same as george.e.gonzalez):
    7/26/13 1:20:04.000 AM kernel[0]: AppleUSBMultitouchDriver::_deviceGetReport - DeviceRequest for reportID 0x0 returned with result 0xe000404f - retrying
    7/26/13 1:20:05.000 AM kernel[0]: USBF:          844075.636          AppleUSBEHCI[0xffffff80157f1000]::Found a transaction which hasn't moved in 5 seconds on bus 0x1a, timing out! (Addr: 2, EP: 0)
But I'm not able to precisely correlate these errors to the pause.
Is anybody else having this problem that can shed more light on it than these other suggested repairs? This has been frustrating for quite a while, but I've had the stuck BACKSPACE key delete hundreds of emails on a webmail platform that I was unable to recover using Undo and out of the trash, and that's just no longer tolerable...
Thank you, thank you, thank you, if anyone can help me fix this!

    Hi, Dan--
Nope, none of those four... I do have Dropbox but never installed it on this machine. The other three are services I've never signed up for.
I am basically using these apps up-front:
Mail.app, Safari, Notes, Terminal, maybe LibreOffice 4.0.x, maybe Sublime Text 2, Console.
And the freezes happen about twice a day, usually when I'm in Mail or Terminal, but that's because those are the ones where I'm typing the most and can see immediately when the freezes happen. It could be happening even more frequently while I'm browsing, but I might not know it because I'm merely reading what's on the screen.
This is a list from Activity Monitor of what I'm using right now, which is very typical of what I use all day:

  • Macbook Air 2011 11" - random freezes.  Roaming wifi causing it?

I have MacBook Air 11" Mid-2011 (4GB RAM, 128GB SSD, i5).  Ever since getting the machine I've experienced random freezes - spinning beachball, screen becomes unresponsive, holding the power button to force it to close being the only thing I can do.  The console logs don't show anything that indicates a problem. They just stop logging anything until I restart.  I took it to an Apple store Genius while still under warranty and they kept it in for a few days and ran a suite of tests and found nothing.
The problem was completely random and unreproducable.  Sometimes it would happen a few times in a row, then nothing for weeks. Also, it was only happening when I was staying in a particular hotel during the week for work.  It was Hilton hotel with the wifi being provided by BT Openzone.  It would only happen there, never at home, family members house, Starbucks (which also use BT Openzone here in the UK, airports).
I recently made some changes to my home wifi setup and the problem has reappeared, but this time at home.  Where previously I just had an Airport Extreme, I have now extended the network over ethernet powerline to a second wifi access point.  The second wifi access point has the same SSID as the main network.
All my wireless devices should seamlessly switch between access points as I move them around the house.  Our iPhones, iPads and Dell laptop seem to have no problem doing this.  When I move away from one access point, once the signal strength drops to certain point, the device connects to the second access point.  The MacBook Air also does this, but it seems to freeze if I am in an area where the signals are overlapping.  This also describes the situation in the hotel.  The BT Openzone hotspots were spread across the hotel.  If my room was in an area where the signals from access points were overlapping I would be more likely to experience the freeze.
If I look in the Wifi logs I can see messages stating that some sort of threshold has been reached and the wifi is starting roaming.  These messages are always present at the time of the freezes.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Is it something Apple would fix eventhough I'm now out of warranty?  If it could be a hardware problem, would replacing the wifi card myself help?
    cheers.

  • Macbook Air random freeze and reboot, plus other problems

I've had my Macbook Air for about 6 weeks and am having several issues. It is the 13" model, special ordered with 8GB of ram so it came straight from the factory. I copied all my data over from a mid-2010 15" Macbook Pro using migration assistant, and for the most part it has been a wonderful machine. There are a few problems, however, and now it is getting more serious.
First, I visited my closest Apple store to have them look at the wifi and bluetooth connection. It was not picking up wifi after waking up, and the same for my bluetooth mouse. They replaced some files and tested it out and it appeared to be fixed, but the problem persists. At least 50% of the time when I wake it up after leaving for 30-60 minutes, I click the mouse and it wakes up, but then there is no response when I move or click the mouse again. I often have to turn the mouse off and on several times to get it to connect.
Wifi is the same, though not as bad. Probably 10% of the time, it will not connect to a known wifi spot after wake. Sometimes it even tells me that none of my trusted networks are available, even when the network I use everyday is listed as available. This is a minor inconvenience, but it is a problem I never had with the macbook pro. Instead of picking up wifi within 10 seconds of wake, it can take as long as 60-90 seconds.
Now the real issues begin. Yesterday morning I stepped away from the computer for a few minutes, and when I returned it had rebooted itself. I do not know why. Only a few programs were running, nothing like system update that would restart the computer. I did a search online but could not find anything recent enough to point to a possible problem.
Then this morning it froze while I was using it. Mouse and keyboard (both external and the ones on the laptop) stopped responding. After a few minutes of waiting I finally shut it down by holding the power button until it turned off. This was alarming, especially less than 2 months after buying the machine. I will likely make an appointment at the Apple store again but these issues happen randomly and if I can't reproduce it they have little hope of diagnosing the problem.
Has anyone else had similar issues? I have run system update and nothing else is pending. This weekend I may restore it to factory settings and load all my data manually instead of copying from timemachine, but that is a royal pain. I'm looking for any suggestions of what to do because I planned to use this computer for years and the first 6 weeks have been very frustrating.

It is probably best to return to the Apple store for assistance, however, you do have 90 days of phone (in the US 800-275-2273) access to Apple which you can use too. If you buy Applecare anytime in the first year of ownership, the warranty and phone access is extended for a total of 3 years coverage  (warranty and phone).

My macbook air 2012 hangs randomly, when it happens the only thing i can do is push the power button and restart. I tought it was mavericks related so installed ML again but it still freezes sometimes. The log of the few minutes before the freeze:

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Macbook Air Mid-2012 UI freeze

    Hi there,
I have a Mid-2012 13" Macbook Air (i7 and 8GB of RAM) with Mountain Lion and all software updates (as of 15th of November) and for the last few weeks I have been experiencing some random and very strange UI freezes.
It seems to happen while browsing with Safari and the symptoms are as follows:\
    - All OS UI is frozen, including option-command-esc and all dock icons, menus, windows, etc
    - Cursor still moves with the trackpad as normal
    - Caps lock works fine, LED lights up if you press it
The only way to recover is to shut down (long press on power button) and restart.
I have looked at the console and there are no reports of kernel panics or any other log messages that may give a clue as to what happened.
It also occurs fairly randomly (once every few days) which makes it very difficult to pinpoint the cause.
I have browsed similar threads but so far no clues, any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any input.

The next time you have the problem, note the exact times when it starts and ends: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Post any messages timestamped during that interval – the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
