Random GPRS usage on N73 (ME)

Hi,
I just got a N73 music edition (originally an Orange phone, but unlocked) on O2 pay as you go.
Everything is working fine but my balance is decreasing around 1p every 15 minutes (~£1 per day, which is more than a contract phone costs!). Discussing this with O2 it is due to GPRS data, they are being helpful and have refunded me so far, but the problem continues.
I am trying to identify the program that is causing the GPRS data usage, as there shouldn't be any! There are no back ground applications running and it is decreasing when the phone is idle.
So far I have:
- Remove email mailboxe, to make sure it is not checking for email
- Disabled Network access for the search plugin
- Reconfigured the GPRS/WAP setting 3 or 4 times (these are correct)
- Changed Settings -> Connection -> Packet Data conn. to "when need" (O2 advised this)
But it still continues. Has any one any suggestions into what could be causing the GPRS data usage? and how to disable it?

(P.S. the phone has the latest firmware and I have only installed OggPlayer and calcuim, but this was happening before I installed these)

Well i have installed the virus scanner which has not found any viruses, but I have used it to block all GPRS traffic, which has stop my balance decreasing.
This is only a temp workaround thou as the virus checker runs out in a month.
One other thing is the phone has a "protected" Orange internet Access point setup, that i can't remove. Does anyone know how to remove these?
Its possible it would be removed by reseting the handset, but there again it may be build into the firmware.Message Edited by mbell666 on 29-Jun-200710:07 AM

    Navigate from Custom Component to the Standard Component(IUICCON – Contract

    We tried navigating with Manual
    as well Dynamic Navigation. The Navigation is happening properly and the Navigation is completed and we are on the Contract
    Management Screen(Standard component View).
    On the Contract Management
    screen (standard Component view), when we click on New Contract Button; it throws dump stating “Define
    Component Usage IUICOBJ”. After debugging we identified that the issue was with the Parent class/ component is getting changed, because of which the usage was not found.

    Check which is the active enhancement set at the runtime in the component_loading BADI.
    If it is anything other than your enhancement set,Set it to your enhancement set .
    Check if the parameter WCF_IGNORE_ENHANCEMT in Tcode SU01 is set to 'A' for the User.

  • HP Envy 15 shut down randomly during usage, no error messages, no overheating

    hi,
    I bought my HP Envy 15 only in July and 3 days ago it started shutting down randomly! I would be using my computer or the computer would be turned on, then it suddenly would shut down by itself. When I start it back up again I don't get any error messages so I can't figure out what's going on. This has happened 5 times within the past 3 days. The last time it happened, I was browsing a website and then the computer just shut down with a clicking sound! Overheating is not a problem because the computer is barely lukewarm and I'm not running any softwares. PLEASE HELP!!!

    Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY 15 and just randomly starting to shut down.
    I recommend to do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook. I would suggest a date of just over a week before the issue started.
    When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues.

  • Random Data Usage?

    So I was on iTunes this morning and I plug my iPhone in. After it's done syncing, I notice that there is 1.11GB of data in "Other". Now, I have not used my iPhone for data purposes, just music, videos, apps and such. So can someone tell me what this is and how I can get rid of it. Thanks.

  • 2011 MBP (10.8.4) freezes exactly one hour after reboot

    Hello,
    I'm having an issue identical to this poster insofar as I can tell, but some test results are different for me. Exactly one hour after rebooting or starting the computer, applications become unresponsive, video stops playing, then a little while later sound stops playing, and the cursor becomes a beachball if interacting with an application. Some windows can still be dragged or brought to the front of the screen for a short time. Eventually everything (except sometimes the cursor) is frozen and the machine never recovers from this state (for at least 15 minutes, I haven't let it go longer).
    Most of the time this is accompanied by a CPU use spike and the fans spinning up, but not always. I have trawled through the system logs and disabled lots of LaunchAgents to no avail, so let me just list a few things I've tried and their result.
    Disabling wifi: no change
    Removing RAM one slot at a time: no difference
    Memtest: clean results, froze after 1 hour anyway
    Apple Hardware test: clean result on extended test, progress *sometimes* halts at the end of the third or fourth pass after the "Main Logic Board" test had finished (during message "Testing in progress... Extended testing in progress").
    System console/system.log shows no distinctive output immediately before freeze, unless I'm doing other things like playing audio or using the internet in which case the wifi interface has activity or CoreAudio turns outputs on, but this is different every time it crashes. I did find that GoogleSoftwareUpdate was implicated in one of the console logs, so I disabled and uninstalled that without effect. I recently started using Time Machine on an external drive, so I disabled that and removed the drive I'd selected from Time Machine preferences - no improvement.
    While watching Activity Monitor during one freeze, I saw that cprefsd (root) had spiked to 260% CPU usage, fseventsd (root) to 128%, and several other processes to 100% (UserEventAgent, cprefsd, iTunes Helper, and apsd (root)). Everything else was at 1%.
    Symptomatically, this appears to be a software issue (not an instant crash, elevated CPU usage, regular timed interval), but I've been unable to isolate the cause. I strongly suspect Time Machine is responsible (fseventsd is linked to it) but having disabled it in System Preferences I'm not sure if it should be eliminated. Alternately I believe this may be symptomatic of logic board, memory controller, or graphics card failure, but am at a loss to explain the regular (non-random, non-usage-dependent) occurrence. I performed the syslog test prescribed by Linc Davis in this thread and found only regular shutdown codes, so that also seems to point to software issues.

    This morning I tried leaving the computer on in Safe Boot mode and the freeze occurred on schedule, with the windows becoming unresponsive at 60 minutes in, and the the beachball appearing as soon as I moved the cursor.
    If I can get a full backup sorted (only essential stuff is cloned right now), I'll try a clean install of OS X from the recovery partition to see if it nixes whatever process is at fault. I have an appointment with the Genius Bar tomorrow evening, but if this is really a software problem then I'm not sure how they can help (except to replace it at cost). Are there any other tests or fixes I can try? What's the likely prognosis?

    Apple replaced the logic board and the fix and it didn't fix the problem. To their credit, they refunded the repair fee. I ended up tracing the issue to a third-party drive I'd bought from NewEgg, a Crucial M4 SSD, which had a very peculiar firmware bug:
    Correct a condition where an incorrect response to a SMART counter will cause the m4 drive to become unresponsive after 5184 hours of Power-on time. The drive will recover after a power cycle, however, this failure will repeat once per hour after reaching this point.
    I would have probably gotten the update notice had I purchased direct from Crucial (or had it come pre-installed if I'd bought it a month later). If you have a similar issue, check your drive firmware!

    M new to this forum and aprreciate if someone could help on the subject. i m a user of BB Torch in Msia. last month my service provider (celcom) charge me 210 for GPRS usage due large MMS sent which I never did. After complaining they waive the charge but said it is due to virus in the phone and will not waive it again. But they told me to change phone or clean-up the phone. I am charge again this month for the same thing. Is it possible to have virus in the phone? i have downloaded 'lookout' anti-virus scan and it shows no virus. Secondly how do i reformat, clean-up or whatever you call it? basically i want to reset the phone just like when i got it new., hoping it will clean the vrus or whatever problem.

    There has knot been a Virus yet, but there has been a few forms of malware which might be similar in some regards, but is very different. Always be sure of what you are downloading and go over permissions for every app install, dont just trust them.

  • SATAvs SB live 5.1vs win XP problem

    hello,
    strange things happen, somethimes when i try to open folder on win xp desktop or run some program my hdd starts to read but reads for a long time, when i open task manager  system process (system) shows skipping random cpu usage (40-80%).after about minute program starts or folder opens. also when i end that process, but than i lose sound(sb live 5.1). it seem like some problem between soundcard pci and sata controller(some interference). tried various bios latency and so on settings,got blaster in 3rd pci slot, but no result.

  • Mail Import Problem

    I am importing into mail a few mbox files that were exported by my pc email program the bat.
    They were exported properly because all but two of the mbox files imported without problem. the two that will not actually cause mail to just shut down. The files are 1 and 1.2 gig in size. They are large files and hold alot of messages that I need. Some of the mbox files that were imported with success had 5 and 6 thousand messages in them, imported without a problem.
    Is there a 1 gig limit on importing mbox files, this is the only thing I can figure that is going on.
    Anyone know a work around. I really dont want to go back and install windoze on the laptop that i was running the bat on as I have allready dumped that and am running linux on that laptop now. So I really need to import these to files into mail on my IMAC-Intel.

    Save the file as split.py in anywhere you want, open your Terminal in Utilities, go the the path where you put the py file, copy the mbox file which you want to be imported to the path.
    Preparation job is done now, how to use it? follow the tips step by step:
    This script will troll through a Unix mbox file randomly assigning each
    message to one of two bins. The split is based on a given float percentage.
    E.g.
    python split.py -1 mbox20 -2 mbox80 20 sourcembox
    yields two mbox files, where mbox20 contains approximately 20% of the messages
    and mbox80 contains 80% of the messages. Messages are assigned to each bin
    randomly.
    Usage: %(programs)s -1 file -2 file [options] percent sourcembox
    Options:
    -h / --help
    Print this help message and exit
    -1 file
    Names the first output file. Approximately percent % of the messages
    from the original source file will end up in this collection.
    -2 file
    Names the second output file. Approximately 100-percent % of the
    messages from the original source file will end up in this
    collection.
    percent is a floating point number between 1 and 99. sourcembox is a Unix
    mailbox file. All arguments except -h/--help are required.

  • Edge Technology

    My phone (S620) has recently started displaying an upper case E at the top of the screen. The handbook tells me it is an Edge Technology indicator.  Whilst I think I understand what Edge technology is, my question is should I be overly concerned about the impact upon a) battery life & b) call charges?  The reason I ask is because I know that these can be impacted (adversely) if I use the GPRS facility for receiving data.

    Just to add a little to the earlier reply.
    As I understand it, if you are using Edge rather than plain old G(PRS) then there would be no significant battery or cost implications. However, if you are now using Edge where before you were NOT using plain old GPRS then you will begin to use up your data allowance and will have to pay if you go over the allowance. There were plenty of tips on the old forum, probably on Neil's site too, about how to control GPRS usage. Worth taking a look at if you haven't come across this before.

    Hi there. I'm tryin to listen to my music on music player through the stereo headphones but the sound only comes out on the phone handset itself?! am i missing something? the radio works, the sound is coming off the headphones. thanks

    Maybe there was a bad connection between the headphones and the phone.
    Randomly on my old N73, I was sat on the train and I though oh someone's listening to the radio i'm listening too.. but nope.. weirdly something had turned the loud speaker on (even though it was locked in my pocket). Took the headphones out and plugged them back in, didn't happen again.
    Owned: Nokia 3510i, Nokia 3120, Nokia 6230i, Nokia 6233, Nokia N73, Nokia N82.
    Current: Nokia N900!

  • Touch 2 + Mobile GMaps + GPS - will it affect my d...

    I understand that if i used google maps for mobile and switched on gps it would use part of my data allowance.
    But if I used a stored offline version like you can with Mobile GMaps will it still use data ?
    Im kinda thinking it shouldn't as the GPS signals are not sent over gprs (afaik) but id just like to get some confirmation.

    Ok I got word back on this for you. 
    We aren't really able to comment on what GPRS usage may or may not be used with a 3rd party application. The best advice that can be offered is to install a tracker for your usage and monitor date usage with this.

  • 10.6.8 randomly freezing, CPU usage goes to 200% and never reduces

    Hi everyone,
    I have a Macbook running 10.6.8 and in my account, there are random times where CPU usage spikes, applications cannot be launched, and killing various processes causes them to spike right after relaunch. It almost always seem to have one of Google Software Update, pbs, or plugin-container in the list of processes taking up all of my CPU (eg. 70% Finder, 70% PBS, 60% Activity Monitor). If I kill all of those processes, when Finder relaunches it goes back to a huge amount of load and no responsiveness. Oddly enough, I can still use Quicksilver and occasionally Firefox when this occurs.
    I'm only ever running Firefox and Quicksilver and never had these issues before.
    I've verified & repaired permissions and verified the disk to no avail.
    Would anyone please be able to help? When it happens, I have no choice but to restart the computer by holding down the power button because it won't respond for 20minutes + when I tried leaving it alone.
    When I ran the 10.6.8 update last week it say Flashback was removed; I'm hoping this isn't related to some sort of malware....

    It most certainly is or was malware. A Backdoor Trojan, to be exact.  Make sure you have installed everything that Software Update recommended as there were some subsequent updates to Java which will prevent you from being re-infected and I highly recommend you don't wait so long to update in the future.  Then disable Java (not JavaScript) in your browsers so as not to become infected when the next vulnerability is exploited.
    I don't think any of your current problems are related to Flashback, especially since it informed you that it had been removed. The symptoms were redirection of your browser to advertising sites and crashes of various applications, mostly Safari.
    Hopefully somebody else will come along with some ideas about CPU usage.

  • Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Random High CPU Usage 80%-100% @ idle

    I am running Windows 7 Ultimate and my specs are AMD Phenom 9550 Quad-Core Processor 2.20 GHz with 6.00 GB RAM. The computer randomly spikes up to 80%+ and usually higher than that and the computer runs really slow. Ived tried checking for spyware, or anything and nothing is found. This happens at idle and during normal activity. Restarting usually solves the issue but sometimes it doesnt. CPU isnt running hot at all, the drivers installed are that of Windows 7 installing at the clean install. I used process Explorer and found out it is:
    CPU
    15.6-20.10 Hardware Interrupts
    52.0-65.00 Deferred Procedure Calls
    This is what is making my usage so high, even makes my idle @ 25 and this is when nothing is running. Normal idle is from 0%-10% max but normal is like 6% and computer was perfect with Vista. Upgraded about 4 days ago.

    Yes, you can try Mark's suggestion as I noticed the similar issue regarding SPC was resolved by the hotfix.
    In other case, you can also try the following steps to narrow down the root cause:
    Test in Safe Mode:
    Restart the computer and start pressing the F8 key on the keyboard. On a computer that is configured to boot multiple Operating Systems, press the F8 key when you see the boot menu. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, select Safe Mode, and then press Enter. Log onto Windows by using the Administrator account or any user account with Administrator privileges.
    If issue disappear in Safe Mode, narrow down in Device Clean boot:
    Clean Boot

    This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service.
    1. Click "Start",and type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in the open box to start the System Configuration Utility.
    2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
    3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".
    4. Click "OK" to restart your computer to Selective Startup environment.
    5. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK.
    6. Check whether or not the issue still appears in this environment.
