Random HDCP errors with Netflix

I've been getting random HDCP problems when streaming from Netflix, the error message "This content requires HDCP for playback".  Have tried the various fixes discussed here (swapping out my HDMI cable, power-cycling the ATV 2).  Some days it works, some days it doesn't, and it's getting very frustrating.  I have a Sony Blu-ray player that also streams Netflix, and it works fine.  I prefer the interface of the ATV 2, but I'm getting fed up with it working only inconsistently.  Also...I was under the impression HDCP is some sort of DRM for downloaded movies, why would/should this even apply to streaming Netflix content??

Swapping HDMI cable was a sensible thing to try.
I would also test another HDMI input if you have one.
I can't get Netflix in UK but would assume Netflix may require HDCP to prevent copying of it's streams - the big companies want to prevent you from copying/recording shows/movies irrespective of how you watch them.

  • HDCP error with Hulu and Netflix

I've had a Apple TV 2 for a few years now and it has worked great.. Two days ago it stopped playing Hulu and Netflix and Vimeo.. All worked fine up until then.. It continues to give me a HDCP error when I try to use them.. It will try to load the program then after 4secs I get the error..  I have changed nothing on my set up.. I have reset and restored, unplugged the HDMI cable and power cable as well.. No luck.. The only thing it will play is content I purchase or have purchased from Apple.. Is anyone else having this issues.. Any help would be appreciated!!

I would try testing with another tv to verify the problem is with the tv and not with the atv

  • HDCP error with LG TV...

    Hello.
I purchased a new Apple TV for my parents. I first set it up and tested it on my home TV (at 42" LG LCD TV) and all worked fine. So, I gave it to my parents and set it up on their home TV (a 32" LG LCD TV). As soon as they try and play rented content from iTunes store or Netflix, they get an error that says "This content requires HDCP for playback" and the video won't play. So, I brought the Apple TV back home, updated the software on the ATV and tried it again on my TV — again, no issues playing content. So, I brought it back to my parents, thus time with the same HDMI cable I was using at home, but again, I get the HDCP error and the video won't play. Tried three different HDMI cables and many of the suggestions found online to get things working, but nothing. For the records, the TV that won't work is an LG 32" LCD TV, model number 32LH30-UA. Anyone else have this model and having these issues?
Right now, my only solution is to give them my old Apple TV (gen1) in exchange for the new Apple TV (gen2) since the older Apple TV had component connections, so they can at least use that get around the HDCP bug for iTunes rentals (though, they'll be out of luck for Netflix since Apple abandoned older Apple TV users on that one).
Honestly, this is very frustrating. Once again, all these copyright protection "schemes" end up screwing the legit customer. If this doesn't get sorted out, then it's time to provide alternate, copyright protection-free content to my (and their) Apple TVs via the torrent of options available out there...
    k.

I searched on LG's website for how to update the firmware on an LG TV. It says you need a "wired connection" (meaning via an ethernet cable) to an Internet modem or router, but my model (the 37LH30-UA) doesn't have an ethernet port. I have emailed LG about the issue, but my conclusion so far is that this TV is just not compatible with Apple TV. We'll see what LG has to say for themselves.
If your parents' TV has an ethernet port, try updating the firmware and see if that works.

  • Late 2013, 27" 3.2GHz iMac random "graphics" errors with Yosemite

Since upgrading to Yosemite I am encountering random "graphics errors".
Sometimes happens with an Apple report, some times without.
In some cases, it causes a logout (not reboot or kernel panic).  After logging
back in the small "graphics error" box is there.
It is always happening at least once during a browsing session in Safari, often
more.  It is also not website dependent as going back and reloading the pages where
the problem occurred will work without the problem.
With Mail, it is even worse.  Simply getting email is not a problem.  It happens
if multiple apps are open and I try to create a Mail message.  This is when
I get the sudden logout situation.  The only way I can compose an email
is to close all other apps.
Memory is NOT an issue as I have 24GB installed.
Anyone having the same issues or clues as to how to fix????
NOTE:  Everything works flawlessly and as it should if I boot into
                 Mavericks.

same problem here screen random glitches while surfing the web with macbook pro retina 13 late 24 model. Just graphic issues *for example i may zoom in  photo on the web and it may appear a random line or glitch) yosemite is really bad

  • HDCP error with new HDCP compliant monitor

I just bought a new Asus VE228H monitor.  I have a ATI Radeon HD 4200, HDCP compliant video card and I am running Windows 7 and iTunes 12.1.1.4.  Even though the new monitor is HDCP compliant, I still get an HDCP error in iTunes.  I replaced the cable with a new HDMI cable and I still get the error.  I have tried searching online for a solution, but haven't found a solution.  Thanks in advance for your help.

    SUCCESS ....... for now ......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i have now got my atv2 unit to power back on - and we can play the rented SD movie which is playing now to a happy family....
No HDCP error message appeared this time.
This what we did to fix our issues....
    1) Pressed the HDMI cable more firmly into the HDMI port into TV - this allowed the ATV2 to actually show/reappear onto the tv panel.
    2) Plugged both power leads for TV and ATV DIRECTLY into wall. (Previously, we had both AC leads plugged into a 4x multi power board and had this plugged into the wall.
We started the SD movie and no HDCP error appeared and movie is still playing as i type...
Now, to repeat this error/diagnostic, we then plugged the TV power lead back into the 4 x multi power board and plugged the board back into the wall. Immediately, the dreaded HDCP error re-appeared. We then replugged TV back into wall directly and no HDCP error message.
    Hypothesis #1 :
Now, this 4 x multi power board also had our DVD player and stereo connected to it. Perhaps our DVD (potential recording device) was being detected and hence the HDCP barrier came up so that we were not able to record this movie.... just a hunch but sounds plausible.....
    Hypothesis #2 :
Also, this 4 x multi power board was within immediate vacinity of the ATV2 unit. Possible interference.....
When the 'dust' settles and the family finishes watching the movies, (1 x HD , 1 x SD), i will plug the 4 x multi power board into another AC wall socket way out of the way of the ATV2 unit (around 4m) and try to repeat this error to validate my hypotheses - noted above.
I will report findings later in around 6 hours...
    thanks for your help people...

my aptv 3 don't work with Netflix movies, because show error DHCP message, what can i do?

    It can be caused by:

  • HDCP error on netflix

When using the latest safari and using Netflix there is an error message saying this monitor is not HDCP compatible.  This only happens when routing audio through HDMI and using the monitors DVI connection for a picture.  HDMI is only used for audio which is does a very good job with Firefox that uses Silverlight.  Netflix says the problem arises with Safari because Safari uses HTML 5......

Then you should try an alternate cable.

  • Getting an error with Netflix app-

I can pick a movie/show and hit play- it just "loads" and then comes up with an error.  I have tried everything: reset network settings, deleted app and reinstalled it, shut it off, signed out/in. not on Ipad just Iphone.
Anyone else??? I called Netflix and they said that it was my phone provider- called ATT and they even reset my phone on the network- not my service..... I reset network settings about a week ago and it worked for 2 days... getting the error again....

Sorry, there are million of apps in the App Store.
Apple do not fix 3rd parties apps. It's the responsibility of the developer.
Maybe some other Netflix user can help.

  • HDCP Error with HDMI-VGA connections

We have been using Apple TV 3 Software Version 7.0.2(6915) for connecting the Apple TV to classroom projectors that have a VGA port in. This was working perfectly till last week, and it seems a new software update was pushed to the Apple TV device now we get "This Content Requires HDCP for playback". Tried multiple different options of soft and hard reboots, resets and restarts nothing helps. Connecting the same Apple TV using HDMI-HDMI cable works fine. We are using Kanex HDMI-VGA adapter. If someone has the same issue please write back since there have 26 Apple TVs in the school and is being actively used by instructors to project their work to the class.

As far as I know, 7.0.2(6915) is the latest software version & nothing new has been pushed out by Apple since its release months ago.
You problem is most likely exactly what the error message indicates: the content (for example commercial movies from a streaming service or an iTunes library) you are trying play on the ATV is protected by the HDCP encryption standard, so unless the Kanex adaptor supports HDCP internally, the ATV will not output the protected content to it.
I looked on the Kanex website to see if they claim the ATV Pro adaptor supports HDCP but nothing there says if it does or doesn't. Also, one of the U.S. Apple Store questions about the device has conflicting answers for that, so I suggest you contact Kanex directly for a more definitive answer & perhaps some help with the issue.
Failing that, you could try your setup with some content you know is not protected by HDCP (like a home movie in an iTunes library). If that works, then the problem almost certainly is that the Kanex doesn't support HDCP & you will not be able to use it with any content so protected.

  • HDCP Error with atv2 and Philips TV

I have a atv2 and a Philips TV, everything is working fine, but not iTunes. I bougt 2 films on iTunes (rented) and after a few seconds (1-5 seconds) the films stops and after a while it´s displayed, that my connection does not support hdcp. But that can´t be, becaus I use a blu-ray player on that TV too. I tried with different hdmi cables, I even bought a very expensive and short one, but always the same error. I tried different hdmi inputs, even downloaded a new firmware on the Philps TV, restarted the atv but nothing worked. Now I payed for 2 films for I´m not able to see. Does any one can help me????

I would try testing with another tv to verify the problem is with the tv and not with the atv

  • HDCP error with iTunes 11.3.1 update

I recently cannot watch any HD content on my computer purchased through iTunes.  Just started happening with the latest 11.3.1 update.  I get the old HDCP content cannot be played message even though I have all apple gear, could play the content a few weeks ago with the last iTunes, monitor is more than capable of playing HD content, and the movies play for 10-15 seconds and then freeze and the error message pops up.  Never an issue before.  Apple Cinema display connected to a Mac Pro from 2012 running Mavericks and iTunes 11.3.1.
I have reset my SMC a few times and it does not help.  Any ideas, or do I just find another way to get media.  I will just buy DVD's and rip them to my mac if this is the new NORM.  It will play fine on my TV through Apple TV, but not on my computer through iTunes.
    Thanks in advance.

I have exactly the same Problem: Has always worked before, came "out of the blue" after latest updates, hardware is more than capable, have tried every maintenance option known to me.
In the meantime, I also tried 6 different configurations of OSX and iTunes via external boot disk together with my hardware, from OSX 10.8.5 to 10.10 (beta) and iTunes 11.1.4 to 12.0 (beta) and voilá: everywhere it WORKED! So the error seems to be software based and seems to occure while updating a system over time. A solution could be to clean install the Mac with a fresh system, but at the moment I don't have the time for that. Hopefully others will chime in into this discussion and Apple will get aware of the problem.
Will also try to get in touch with Apple-Tech-Support, but my Apple-Care-Warranty is over and I'm not willing to pay 50 bucks for that phone call. Also don't have a Genius-Bar around...
My workaround for now is, to use an external boot disk with a clean OSX 10.9.4, log in with Apple-ID and play the movies.

  • HDCP error: can't play iTunes movies or netflix with yosemite

I get this error message: This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection).
The movies won't play through Quicktime either.
I get a similar error from Netflix and I've tried switching to Silverlight which work for a couple weeks but now it won't work again.
I do not have my computer connected to any other device or second screen.
This is a brand new retina Macbook Pro 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory 16GB, 1TB Solid-state, Graphics Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB.
    Everything is up-to-date.
I have called Apple twice and they could not find a solution.  I hoped it would be resolved when the first update (10.10.1) came out...but nothing has changed.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Netflix display error with Safari 8/OSX 10.10 Yosemite

I am having an issue with playing Netflix content through Safari since upgrading to Yosemite. Specifically, Netflix will start to play the content and then display an error after a few seconds. The error reads "Whoops, something went wrong... display error. There appears to be a display problem. Please ensure your monitor is HDCP compliant and is not mirror using airplay."
My monitor is HDCP compliant (HP ZR30W) and it's the only monitor connected to my 2014 MacPro. I presume this is an issue with the latest version of Safari and all the next extensions Apple added to support Netflix streaming without the Silverlight plugin.
Anyone have a solution for this or seen the same problem? The new Safari is crazy-fast and I'd prefer to use it with Netflix. Hate bailing to Chrome.

I just got it to work, and I think I may know why, just in case it helps anyone.
    My setup:
Mac Mini (late 2012), with two monitors connected:
One dell HDMI monitor, hdcp compliant, plugged into the Mac Mini HDMI port.
One dell monitor plugged into thunderbolt via thunderbolt-VGA adaptor.
Unplugging the second monitor from the thunderbolt-VGA adaptor fixed the issue, and now Netflix plays with the HTML5 setting turned on!  So it would appear that the second monitor was the problem.  Which would track with what this page says:
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
The page states that a Thunderbolt-DVI connector should work.  Luckily this monitor has both, so the next thing I will try is to buy a Thunderbolt-DVI adaptor and retest with both monitors attached (I don't have one at the moment).  If that works, I'll post the results, maybe next week.
This kind of stinks because I've always been  two-monitor dude, I like having a movie playing on one monitor while I work on the other for example.  For now, until I get the adaptor, I'll switch netflix back to using silverlight, which seems to still work with both monitors attached.

  • HDCP Error AppleTV Can't watch Netflix

I need to know where is Apple showing a solution about the HDCP error in AppleTV's arround the world.
People are paying to get services like Netflix and this error besides being ridiculous, frankly is a huge frustration for users of Apple that certainly want THE BEST in these products (which are NOT cheap either).
I've changed my cable, followed all step of these discussions suggest and nothing. This error is still there and NO ONE IN APPLE OFFERS some kind of solution.
Please respond or something like that. People needs a solution soon.
