Random italic print from pdf

Hi, I'm working on our new catalog. When I export the file to PDF it looks fine - but printing will result in some of the text randomly becoming italic, often in the middle of a sentence. The font is Josephine Sans on Windows Indesign.
Printing from Indesign directly works fine, editing the font to another font and back within the Acrobat will also fix the problem but is impracticable. I've also exported the file to IDLM and reopened it without improvement.
I'd appreciate any help since I'm new to Indesign, thank you.

I very much appreciate the offer, Bill. Originally, I intentionally avoided a description of the first problem, since it was beyond the scope of the forum and I wanted to respect that. But since you asked, the subtle problem is this...
My team and I enable the aforementioned large PDFs for shared review. In some cases, the shared reviews suffer from crippling performance problems. "Crippling" = between 45 minutes to 2 hours to open, between 10 and 20 minutes to post one comment. (Our team hosts thousands of other shared reviews, all of which perform properly, responding within seconds.) After many weeks of diagnosis, I've narrowed down the issue to 2 factors in these PDFs:
The "Audit Space Usage" function reports that there are "comments and 3D content" in the source PDFs -- even though "Show Comments List" shows nothing, and there is no 3D content embedded.
The Preflight function reports that the PDFs contain JavaScripts.
If I re-print the PDF back to PDF, using the Adobe PDF printer driver, the "Audit Space Usage" no longer reports any comments and 3D content, and the Preflight function no longer reports any JavaScripts. When the resulting PDF is enabled for shared review, it performs properly and speedily.
I therefore feel safe in my assumption that it's the presence of the above 2 items that causes the subtle problem. However, the only approach that gets me there is the "Print to PDF" function. As I reported originally, any other combination -- PDF Optimizer, Preflight, Save As, Reduce File Size -- preserves one or both of the issues I mentioned previously. In addition, any action that removes "Comments and 3D content" also removes link functionality.
Version and OS is as indicated in my original post -- Acrobat 9.5 Professional for Windows. (Our team has a mix of Windows XP and 7.) I've also since reproduced the problem in a trial version of Acrobat XI Professional on Windows 7.

  • Prints garbage when printing from PDF

When I print from a PDF occasionally my 8500a Premium prints text in code. The format appears to be correct but the text prints in code. When I send the same PDF to another printer it prints fine. Please help.

If you can't select composite CMYK it means your printer isn't postscript, or you aren't using the postscript driver option if one is available.
Since this is a printer-related function, not a property of the file itself, you don't want to do anything to your pdf to compensate. That's the printer's job, if necessary, when he processes your PDF.

Has anyone experienced this issue?  Does anyone know how to resolve it?
I am using Adobe Reader version 10.0.0.
    Thanks.

I do not know what causes your issue, or how to fix it.
But if I experienced the same problem I would try to
install the latest Reader version 10.1.3
install the extended font pack for Reader 10
check if there is any newer device driver for my printer available
Not sure if this will help in any way, but it's worth a try.

  • Can't print from PDF files to desktop printer (CS3)

I installed CS3 about 8 months ago and recently have been having issues printing PDF files to a desktop printer from Acrobat and Reader. All other documents are able to print to this printer (including other CS3 software).
I get an error that says:
"Unable to start print job. Is printer available?"
If I open the same PDF in illustrator or Photoshop it will print, but obviously this is not ideal for multiple page pdfs. The same error happens from PDFs created by me as well as others.
My first thought was to reinstall Acrobat, but seems this isn't possible without reinstalling the whole suite...
    Any ideas?

    Hi rooster56,
    See thi post: http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Network_Magic&thread.id=18
Also note, when you plugged the Printer into the Router, you need to install the entire Printer Software package into each operating system that you want to print from. It can't print unless the software for the printer is installed.

  • HP LaserJet 4MV no longer prints from PDF on MacBook Air

Yes, I still use my Hewlett Packard LaserJet 4MV and with my MacBook Air with which I have been printing from Preview, Safari screen, email, AND from PDF's since I downloaded a patch from online 1-1/2 years ago.  Inexplicably the HP LaserJet 4MV no longer prints from any Adobe PDF in any program.  I can print any other document except PDF still.  I can print PDF's on my other printers including a Brother.  I have uninstalled and redownloaded Adobe Reader.  It is a mystery.
Any suggestions?  Did I accidentally download some update (I try to never download Adobe updates) possibly that 'cancelled out' my ability to print on my HP Laserjet 4 MV?   Any ideas would help. Thank you so much.

I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial printer. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/

  • Printing from PDF

In acrobat, click 'advanced' in the print window, then click 'print as image'. This sometimes works.

  • Random words disappear from pdf and printed page

I work for a newspaper and we have had an ongoing problem from week to week of random words dropping off pages. It happens with the same font family each time but usually only occurs on one page a week. These fonts are used throughout the entire paper and has no problems in other places. The problem seems totally random. I usually send groups of pages (about 25)and the printer then extracts the pages.
They say the words sometimes drop off when the pages are extracted in acrobat.
I'm using indesign cs6, with the default "high quality print" setting. The font in question is the Knockout family from the Hoefler foundry. It is open type.
Does anyone have a solution for this? We had an entire headline drop off last week resulting in the printer having to reprint the entire paper... Not so good.
I have tried reinstalling the font but it has not helped.

Yes I export directly from InDesign and then send the files via FTP after that. Once they receive the files, they they use the Document/Extract tool within Acrobat to separate the files. Apparently this is when they find that letters on the page have been replaced by X'd out boxes.
Their fix is to open the orignal set of pages in Photoshop and rasterize the problem page. I would rather they don't do this so that we don't lose quality. Also, when fonts drop from the page, they can be easily overlooked by an unattentive printer.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Problem when printing from PDF created by InDesign

    Ok, here's the scenario!
I have a flyer, created in InDesign. I have drawn a grey curve (in InDesign) which goes at the top of each page.
I import a transparent logo in PSD format, and place it on top of the grey curve.
In InDesign and when I PDF it, it looks fine (at any zoom level).
However when I print it, there is a slight outline around the transparent logo and it has a slightly different shade of grey as its background (it stands out from the curve).
Does anyone know why this could be?  I also tried importing the logo with the same grey background as in InDesign but the same problem occurs.
    Any help appreciated!

  • Illustrator CS6 - Organisation problems with printing from PDF

    Hi everybody
I working with the Illustroartor for some times now and I get better every time, but now its appears that’s I have a organization problem with my Illustrator CS6 and maybe somebody can help me here.
My problem: I create for example a logo and this logo I like to print on an Objekt like a Paperclip or a Lighter. I have now a print template as a PDF File (see attachement) with serveral predefined print areas. Around 100 predefined printing areas are on the PDF File and the only way to add my logo into this 100 predefined printing areas is by using the funktion “copy/past” but this takes long time and I have to adjust each single logo into the predefined printing area by hand … so this way don’t make really sense and is also very time consuming.
My question is: Is there any way to automate this process by using e.g. the artboard funktion or some other functions?
I would appreacte any help in this case!!!
Thank you very much in advance.
    Nice regards
    Klaus

  • Strange font behaviour when printing from PDF

Hi - hoping someone can shed some light as I've been going slightly crazy trying to figure out what's happening.
I'm working on a Mac. I'm using the .ttf fonts of the Oswald family - obtained from Google fonts (and various other sources to rule out corrupt files).
When exporting the PDF from InDesign and printing it myself, there are no issues. When I send the PDF to others on a Windows machine, it prints fine.
When sending the PDF to my client (always the way) some of the font characters are, well, nudged down half way almost, out of alignment. It only happens on some characters, not all.
We only discovered this before submitting an ad to the printers, and for safety's sake, I converted all the text to outlines. Ok for now, however not a long term solution as we need to be able to use this font for live situations.
Has anyone experienced this before? Or perhaps can anyone suggest a workaround? I have to use TTF fonts as a 3rd party company who are working on some dynamic brochures have requested it.
    I'm literally at a loss.
    Thanks in advance.

Well I can give you what I did to get around the problem.  I am running Adobe X pro on windows 7.
    1.  The print job in queue, cancel it so that it is deleted.  You now should have no jobs pending.
    2.  Go to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers(Win7) or just the printer and devices for your OS.  Yes this must be done with Admin privilages.
    3.  Go to Printer Properties for the Adobe PDF printer.
    4.  Select the ports tab.  Mine was on Com3.
    5.  Select Add a Port and call it Adobe Printer or something.
    6.  Select the check box and select apply.
You should now print with no errors.
    -G
Yes I am aware this has been a year, but this has happened over several versions.

  • Printing from PDF is slightly larger

I placed an image on an 8.5x11 piece of paper and saved it as a PDF. Once it was printed directly from Acrobat the image was printed slightly larger than when I print directly from Photoshop. Why is this and is there any way I can fix it?
By the way I've already checked to see if "scale to fit page" was checked and it was not.
    Thank You!
I was wondering this b/c I'm sending a pdf to someone and I'm worried it's going to print larger than the actual size I want it at.

Check each document to see if both documents have the same pixel dimensions (so many pixels wide by so many pixels have) and that they are at the same ppi resolution in the file.  Also check the print settings for each application.
You have not indicated what platform you're on (Macintosh or Windows), what exact version of the OS and of the applications (Acrobat and Photoshop) you are running, what kind of printer and what version of the printer driver.  Also state the exact physical sizes of the printed document so we have an idea of what "slightly larger" means to you.
You are not giving us nearly enough information.

  • Apple Print Service: Repeat prints from PDF?

I printed a book from Aperture a few months ago using Apple's print service, but since then, the project got inadvertently destroyed. So I can't print it directly from Aperture any more. However, I did retain the "last step" PDF from the printing process, before it was submitted to Apple. Is it possible to print to Apple's service with this - either via Aperture, or by submitting it some other way to them? (I am presuming that the locally-saved PDF is an exact copy of what's submitted to Apple in the printing process.)
The fallback will be to recreate the book using a somewhat older backup, but I'd rather not go to that trouble if the original PDF will win the day.
    Thanks!
