Random jump to previous page

My daughter, who uses two separate Macs, reports:
"Occasionally if I'm browsing in Firefox or in the Finder it will suddenly jump to the previous page without me knowingly doing anything."
She later added:
"It just flips back to the previous page when I'm browsing (often in the middle of reading or writing something on a web page). I'm usually holding the mouse, but not pressing anything - which is why it is so strange. Different websites, but it also happens in the Finder too - just flips back to the previous folder. Only started happening since last updates of the OS."
Has anybody else had this? Is it a known bug?

Thanks for your help. Sorry to take so long - communication delays - she is in Washington and I am in the UK.
She says that her work Mac has a Magic Mouse and your answer helped resolve the problem on that one but she still has the issue with her trackpad on her home Mac. This is what she said:
"My work computer mouse seems to be more sensitive to swiping left to right since I turned off the scrolling up and down (was driving me mad in Powerpoint) and even the tiniest motion will now set it off and send me back a page. There isn't any way to change this as far as I can tell. I'm still confused on my home computer as the same motion on a trackpad requires 3 fingers and I can't get it to do it how ever much I purposefully try, but yet sometimes it does it spontaneously when I'm not trying."

  • Jumps to previous page both within current application and other applications

when using any application, facebook, banking, etc it jumps back to previous pages both in and out of the application. Ex will go back to home or sign in then out of application and back to previous application without prompting. Started after last firefox update and just in facebook games now has spread to everything including when I tried to use Explorer. Started infrequently now is so frequent cannot use system.

In addition when within farmville on facebook this box pops up:
    Confirm
To display this page FireFox must send information that will repeat any action (such as a search or order confirmation) that was performed earlier.

  • Web pages randomly jump back

Web pages randomly jump back a page or two for no reason. It sometimes happens when I'm not touching the trackpad or the magic mouse. I am using a MacBook Pro O SX Version 10.7.4. It happens with Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome.

I'm having that problem with Firefox, but as I'm on the beta release, I thought that it was just a bug in Firefox. I seldom use Safari and never use Chrome, so I don't know if it's just an occasional problem with the OS or with my MacBook Pro.

The arrow to open the tab history of the Back and Forward buttons has been removed in Firefox 4 and later.
Use one of these methods to open the tab history list:
    * Right click on the Back or Forward button
    * Hold down the left mouse button on the enabled Back or Forward button until the list opens
You can look at this extension:
    * Backward Forward History Dropdown: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/backforedrop/

  • In the previous Firefox, I could bring up a list of pages viewed within a tab, so could quickly jump back several pages, but I can't find this now.

You can get the drop down list by either right-clicking on the back/forward buttons, or holding down the left button until the list appears.
If you want the drop-down arrow you can add it with the Back/forward dropmarker add-on - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/backforward-dropmarker

  • Safari 4.0.4 will suddenly reload previous page while I'm reading new page

I'll be happily reading down a column of text on a webpage and suddenly the browser will load the previous page as if I'd hit the back button.
    Any ideas?

I am having the same problem with my wireless mouse! It has been happening for months, since I bought my iMac in November. The mouse was, obviously, included with my purchase. I keep forgetting to complain about the problem, until today when this odd occurrence happened for the 500th time.
Sometimes, not always, a page I am reading will suddenly jump back a page when I reach for the mouse to slide it. I have not clicked anything, nor have I touched anything on the keyboard. It is random, and when it happens as I am composing text it is incredibly maddening! How do I make this stop? I have checked my setting and all are compatible.

  • The Back button only allows me to go back one page at a time instead of selecting a previous page from a drop-down list. This is a real problem: anyone have any ideas?

In the previous version of Firefox, I could go back to a previous webpage by clicking on a part of the Back button which brought up a list of recently visited sites, and by clicking one of these, could jump straight back to that page. This facility does not seem to be available in the latest Firefox, and the Back button only goes back one page at a time. This is really inconvenient, as,
it now takes longer to get to an earlier page
there is no visibility of previous pages visited
any actions carried out on webpages are undone when going back through them - this does not happen when jumping back several pages in one go.
This is a real problem as I used to the old system constantly, and cannot continue to use Firefox 4.0 unless there is a way around it.

For me, I have the same question, this is a poorly done upgrade and I want to go back to 3.6

  • How can I return to previous page? There used to be an arrow in upper left side of screen that would allow this, but it has disappeared.

I have the latest version of Firefox, 5.0 installed today, but no arrow in upper left part of screen that previously would let me return to previous page.

can I somehow edit the location of where I can find all the sheets (right now they are on top of the page, and you can't see all of them listed at quick glance but must scroll/arrow through them)
On my machine I just hit shift-command-j (the keyboard shortcut I assigned in System Preferences) and a list of the sheets in the current document pops up:
I type a number from the list and jump immediately to that sheet. The hands never have to leave the keyboard.
(This particular document had a sheet named for each month.  But the sheets in your document automatically will be listed instead.)
This is done via a Jump to Sheet Automator Service (Dropbox download).  To install just doubleclick the .workflow package and (if needed) click 'Download Anyway' in System Preferences > Privacy & Security.
Installation will cause a new item to appear in your Numbers > Services menu.  Then, if you want a keyboard shortcut, go here in System Preferences and add one:
You can rename or remove the service by holding down the option key in Finder and choosing Go > Library > Services. You can also view the AppleScript contaned within the service by opening the .workflow package in Automator.
Note, also, that in Numbers 3 you don't have to use those left-right arrows upper right to slowly scroll left-right to the sheets that are out of view.  Just move your cursor up to the "band" with the "tabs" and drag left or right.  That's much faster than using the arrows.

  • Mouse randomly jumping while using most tools in Photoshop CS4 and CS5.

    Hi,
I have recently been using my photoshop cs5 when all of a sudden the mouse has began to jump and move randomly when I am using some of the tools. For example, when I use the eraser tool it will not always, but frequently erase something in a random position on the page, and this is becoming a pain as I can be editing something zoomed right in and zoom out to find random areas of my drawing gone which can be very frustrating, but this problem is not restricted to the eraser tool, when I transform shapes with the transform tool occassional it will stretch the shape 4000pixels wide when I only go to increase it by 5, or when i try to move it, it just disappears and I find it outside of the drawing canvas.
This is really causing alot of issues for me, so how can I resolve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Ben.

Ok I am going to toss some thing out, they may sound silly or redundant but these are things we simply do not know that could cause issues.
What type of mouse pad do you have?
Highly reflective or worn smooth mouse pads or using desktop surfaces rather then a mouse pad can cause light distortion and cause jumppy behavior uneven survaces or highly reflective survfaces are bad too. the same can be said about overly light absorbent surfaces. as they can spread the light. Like if you are like me and have a wide arm cloth chair, you still need a mouse pad on the arm of the chair or your mouse pointer will jump as it travels accross the uneven surface.
Do you have any other usb devices installed?
Are you plugged into a USB hub and not the computer directly?
Is it possable its your keyboard thats causing the issue. Unplug the KB then see if the mouse still jumps.
let me know if any of this helpped.

  • Safari not loading previous pages

    Hello all,
so, I like to keep multiple websites open in safari, commonly keeping the 8 tap limit. On the occasion when I click on a link that forcefully opens a new tab, safari will randomly pick an open tab to open the link in. Well, it won't allow me to go back to the previous page I had open. Is there a workaround for this? It really tcks me off when I can't go back to a page I was reading.

I tried throwing away the safari application and loading on a new one that I had downloaded from another computer, didn't help, still have the same problem.

  • Combobox in the report forms, next page, other page, previous page...apex 3

    Hi,
Is there a possibility to add a new option to that combo to "jump" not only to a page relative number, to a first letter of an word from a chosen field in the report ?
You need to "jump" to some range of records in a specific page and the relative number, doesn't tell you where are those specific records.
    Best regards,
    Victor

Hi, i'll try to be more clearly, thanks for trying to help me.
Let's say that i have a site with a form as "report and form", the records in the screen are about peoples, a very long list of first_name & last_name and other fields of course, some of them with a similar last_name let's say for example, my wish is to "jump" to a page very directly to a specific range of names, therefor i need to see some part of a field (..that i'll choose) in the 'next / previous' combo displayed automatically in the report page.
    Thanks a lot,
    Victor

  • HttpServletRequest - previous page from which current page is requested

When a servlet is invoked, I want to know from which page of the browser this servlet is invoked.
    in other words...
Is it possible to find out (from the HttpServletRequest object) which is the previous page of the browser from which the servlet request has come in?
    Thanks

One solution is to add the referer as a parameter to the requested URL. This will only work if you have control over the referring page, or in other words: if you link to your servlet from one of your own pages. In that case, you could for example use a hidden field, or just append the referer to the URL: http://jump.here/my/servlet/?myReferer=<this-is-my-referer-url>. This way, you could get the referring URL by requesting
request.getParameter("myReferer")However, you may as well use the HTTP header called "referer":
request.getHeader("referer")See http://www.w3.org/Protocols/HTTP/HTRQ_Headers.html#z14. In this case, you rely on the client (browser) to send the referer header along with the request, as this is an optional header field. The latter solution will be a good one in many cases.

    # Question
When the program gets terminated unexpectedly (power failure, UPS fails), when I reopen it, it usually does NOT return the previous pages, as I have checked in the 'options' box, but goes to some random collection of pages often from months ago. Very frustrating - can anything be done to COMMAND it to save current pages and re-open there? (As I said, I have this box checked in the options, but it does not work ..

Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Do they launch OK while in Safe Mode?

  • Sometimes my back button is greyed out and does not show the previous page i was just looking at!?

This randomly happens and i can not tell exactly what i do or why.
All i know is that every time you visit a page, site, picture etc... the back button remembers every page you have just been too in that session.
However some times the back button goes grey and i can not click on it and it loses all the previous pages i have been to.
I can reopen the last pages by going to my history but it's really annoying as it takes time and as i surf and look at a lot of things, the back button is crucial for me.

I am experiencing the same problem with the back button randomly being greyed out and not functional. If I navigate to the same page a second time, the back button is usually functional again... have not been able to associate this behavior with any particular site
