Random Kernel Panics even after Clean Install from Genius Bar
Despite being "all apple" I'm about fed up with these kernel panics and ready to convert!
I believe these started with Lion... I'm now fully updated on Maverick.
Nothing has seemed to change.
I took my iMac to the Genius Bar after I finally figured out a way to replicate a panic.
After all sorts of memory, and other hardware tests they suggested and performed a clean sweep.
I came home, restored with Time Machine, and thought all was well...
Now, a week later I'm back to having restarts in the middle of extensive projects.
I've had two in the past two hours.
I initially diagnosed it as anytime a large file (2GB+) was being moved, saved, or when a back up or virus scan was being performed.
Then it happened at other times and proved that wrong.
Then I assumed it was RAM. I took it out, cleaned, and performed multiple tests. All was good and up.
Then I could reproduce it while working with a LARGE file in iMovie.
Thats when I took it to the Bar.
Now, I'm long out of iMovie and working mainly in Google Chrome with nothing else opened, but Evernote, and FileZilla, which I have used for years.
The last two panics have included the : 0xdeadbeefdaadbeef
Could it be the grapics drivers? Using
NVIDIA GeForce 9400
Type: GPU
Bus: PCI
VRAM (Total): 256 MB
Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID: 0x0869
Revision ID: 0x00b1

Any Help?
I can post the panics if needed...
Here's the EtreCheck... looks like I have a lot more 3rd Party stuff than I realized...? Probably some of the problem?

Kernel Panic only after I install 16GiB RAM but it passed memtest and AHT
Kernel Panics occur after I installed the 16GiB RAM(Corsair Vengeance Laptop Memory Kit 16 GB (2x8 GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL10 PC3 12800 (CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10) in my MacBook Pro 17" 2011 early. It might appear in login window, or after using Safari for 2 or 3 hours. If I did't use the MBP overnight and just let it run, there would be strong possibility that kernel panic didn't occur. But on the next day when I went up and start using the computer, the kernel panic occur in half an hour.
I run the memtest for 12+ hours and Apple Hardware Test for 19+ hours, but no error was found. I tried OS X Lion 10.7.4 and OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 GM, and even a clean install of 10.7.4, but it still occur.
However, when I install one of the 16GiB a.k.a 8GiB, kernel panic never occur. I even tried one 8GiB with another my old 4GiB ram, and kernel panic didn't occur either.
I've tried to fix the problems for 2 weeks, and I did everything I can. So, can anyone tell me which part might be bad, Mac or RAM? Should I goto Genius Bar or ask Corsair for RMA?
Here's my latest panic log:

Thank you for your reply.
My 8GiB RAM is also two 4GiB DDR3 1600MHz (SAMSUNG) and it was running very well.
I also checked the intel documents (http://ark.intel.com/products/50067/Intel-Core-i7-2720QM-Processor-(6M-Cache-up- to-3_30-GHz), and it says:
Memory Types
DDR3-1066/1333/1600
If you have read my original reply to you post, I did mention that someimes it will work and sometimes it won't. Your Samsung might be rated at 1600MHz but the CL could be higher than your Corsair which is why it worked.
The memory Type you read in the link you provided is motherboard/logicboard depended. Your Logic board is rated at 1333MHz. So going 1600MHz will not benefit you since you're locked at 1333MHz.
good luck -
Experiencing complete freezes with my iMac even after clean install
Hi,
I've got a problem that I thought was something that only Windows was supposed to have and Apple actually used to advertise that Macs didn't have it. Complete freezes of the whole system.
My iMac 21.5" (mid 2011), now with OS X 10.8.2, sometimes and without any apparent reason (There isn't any action on my part that appears to be linked with it) just freezes to the point where I can't even move the Mouse anymore. The keyboard is also unresponsive, and I believe that it can't be an input device error, because anything moving on the screen also freezes (for example MenuMeters).
I'm not confusing this with a kernel panic, because there is no message thereof anywhere (and also, since 10.8, the Mac would restart immediately, which is not the case here).
The only thing I can do in that case is to hold down the power button until the computer turns off.
The problem first appeared already before I installed 10.8, and I also had several kernel panics within a month. Since I couln't find any reason for those either (I checked the error reports, but I couldn't finde anything that appeared in all of them that could link to a common cause), I made a clean install from the recovery partition.
I didn't copy any Libraries, I just backed up the files from my user folder to recover them. Therefore, there shouldn't be anything like old .kext s and such left.
But now, my Mac froze again and I don't know what to do anymore. I did install some new RAM some 2-3 Months ago, but I ran memtest and it all checked out ok so it shouldn't be linked to a Memory problem either...
Since the problem might be very unique here, it might help if anyone knew something to make out the cause of this. Maybe some logging tools or something else to at least find problem, or maybe something to perform a really thorough hardware test.
Thanks for the help,
AlexPut the old RAM back in and test.

Kernel Panics Continue After Clean Re-install on Different Drive
Did I mention I have also removed and replaced all the RAM to no avail. Here's the report when it reached the end of the timeline and FCP failed without a kernel panic.

If you pare down the post, it's easier to weed thru all that chaff.
From your posting, it does look an awful lot like something about Quicktime is giving you the problem. It may be video card related, but remember, CPU upgrades like you are running (a 1.25gig CPU in a 6 year old computer) are notoriously flakey. Speeds (and the hardware to handle them, including faster ram) have gone up 1600% since your system was manufactured.
I'd wager, btw, that you could take a video card newer than the Rage 128 - maybe not a brand new one, but pick up some 64MB Mac ATI affair and I bet you'd be better off...

EMac Crashing Even After Clean Install
I've got an eMac that I bought late 2005. It's been working fine for seven months, but two weeks ago began having random crashes. The crashes seem to occur regardless of which applications are running or in the foreground. TechTool Pro finds no issues; neither does Disk Warrior. Performed OF resets. Tried different mouse and keyboard. Booted from factory disc and ran permissions, all repairs on startup volume. That didn't help. Neither did the Apple Hardware Test that came with the Mac. No errors or problems of any kind were found. Finally, I did a clean install of the OS, sure that would fix whatever was causing this. It did not. A crash occurred while copying some files from a local server. This bit appeared in that login account's console log:
June 29 08:21:59 copy9 kernel: ** ASIC Hang Log End **
June 29:08:22:05 copy9 kernel: ATIRadeon::submit_buffer: Overflowed block waiting for FIFO space. Have 5, need 6. RBBM_STATUS 0x8009c100. VAPCNTLSTATUS 0x00000002
Also, FWIW, if I boot from a G4 Apple Diagnostic CD, I get this message: "Invalid memory access at: %SRR0:00000000 %SRR1: 00083030.
Anybody have a clue about this? Do I have a RAM DIMM gone bad (even though test softare finds no problem with memory)? Problem with onboard video? Network? Am I missing something?
Thanks for any ideas...Okay, let me clarify. Sorry for not being clearer earlier. My computer had been freezing and crashing and just not working for me for quite some time BEFORE I did the erase and install. That's why I finally did an erase and install as a last resort. The thing is, erasing and installing didn't fix anything. I ran Repair Permissions both before and after resinstalling. I still can't do anything unless I start up in safe mode. I am beginning to wonder if it may be a simple matter of needing more memory? Here is my embarassing computer information:
I have an eMac, PowerPC G4; OS version 10.3.4.
CPU speed: 1.25 GHz
I assume my RAM is this DDR SDRAM?: 256MB
The only peripherals I have besides the keyboard and mouse are a hpdeskjet 960c printer and an iSight, but I have not had either of those hooked up when I have tried to boot up my computer since doing the erase and install and it is still crashing.
Hopefully this might be helpful in some way. I'm pretty lost here so you may be offering help to a lost cause and I'll just have to give in and take it somewhere, but thanx for taking the time to read my posts and try and point me in the right direction! -
System crashes, even after clean install. How to diagnose?
Hi all,
Have been experiencing weird errors with my 2010 MBP, among which infrequent system crashes. I've seen my MBP swallow keypresses of the external Logitech keyboard I use. Replacing it with another (similar) model didn't help. It was getting quite annoying and I was beginning to distrust my Mac. I work on that, so it's crucial I have it running well.
After doing a complete clean install yesterday, the system crashed after 10 minutes of use. I'm suspecting a drive problem. I replaced the internal drive by a Crucial 256GB SSD a year and a half ago. I've already asked Disk Utility to do a check of the disk, but it reports no problems.
My system is now completely clean, but it's still not stable. How can I diagnose my MBP's issue?
Look forward to hearing from you,
MartinOk, adding some info as requested in other posts. Hope anyone can make something useful from this. The crash after 10 minutes of running was a kernel panic. It says page_fault now that I look at it in some detail. Is that a memory thing?

Major crashes even after clean install. iCal/sqlite/MobileMe the culprit?
In 25 years of using Apple computers, I've never had problems like I'm having now.
My iMac was acting up severely with some strange symptoms such as:
* The red & white portion of the iCal icon in the dock disappearing, while the date itself remained visible.
* All kinds of 0K sqlite files showing up on the base level of the hard drive, and a lots of cfx pref files being generated (stuff like cfx#1t9Oiul -- these i understand to be corrupt pref files). The sqlite files, by the way, show up as things like etilqs_3HVA6IL9BWQtB9e
* Freezes, generally slow behavior, and multiple crashes, including the "blue screen of death" where the color just shifts and the cursor comes and goes. Eventually, even after running DiskWarrior, I the computer would start up, then spontaneously shut itself down after the grey apple screen with the progress wheel.
Ultimately, I decided to just wipe the thing clean and start fresh from a backup.
Using a Leopard install disk, I attempted to do the clean install, but was unable to from the iMac's internal optical drive - the installer told me the disk was damaged or dirty (the optical drive is brand new, by the way).
Using a powerbook and putting the iMac in target mode, I was able to do a completely clean install.
I ran all the software updates and have added NO third party software.
Problems are back:
Running a sync to get my calendar, contacts, and bookmarks back, I encountered my first problem again: address book wouldn't sync "due to inconsistent data" and told me to replace the data on the computer by resetting it -- which I attempted to do, multiple times, but the sync always failed.
Then , once again those sqlite files started showing up.
Then the iCal icon disappeared again and programs weren't responding. Moments ago I had to do a hard restart.
I've zapped the PRAM, I've tried everything I know, and I'm still having all these problems (some of which, by the way, are now beginning to occur on the PowerBook G4 I also have).
If anyone can provide me any guidance here, man would I love it. Is it possible the Leopard disk I have is somehow corrupted and is causing all these issues? Or is it hardware? Or is this some sort of problem that's being generated by synchronization?
I'm really at my wit's end.
Thanks to anyone who can give me a hand.
JonJust wanted to update anyone who's interested:
After replacing the internal hard drive, all problems have ceased and my Mac is running beautifully -- fast (though I also upgraded the ram from 1 to 2 GB) and I couldn't be happier.
So just a word to the wise: those "software" problems I was so certain I was having turned out to be a hard drive that was slowly failing. A friend of mine who's a programmer said he's never heard of a hard drive failing anything but suddenly, but in this case that's what happened.
With the problems I was having, I was seriously beginning to question my loyalty to Apple.
As it turns out, now I'm questioning their loyalty to Western Digital -- that drive was a dog and I'm glad to have replaced it with a Seagate. -
MacBook Pro - apps quitting unexpectedly even after clean install of SL
I did a clean install last night because flash application and associated files kept crashing. Today they seem to be ok. But now I have programs unexpectedly quitting. Just opened After Effects and it quit with a notice about a missing symbol. Maya quit before that as well.
Here is a list from my console:

Mac lagging even after clean install of mountain lion
i have mac book pro 13" mid 2102- i7 version. it is lagging while video play back in quick time, audio in itunes, even VLC is lagging sometimes. Need for speed is lagging too. CPU usage is very low like 95% is Idle, 70% RAM is free. I reinstalled OS(with secure formatting) but problem is still there. what you guys think is causing this, RAM or HDD. i tried repairing disk permissions before clean install but no luck. itunes lags like 2-3 secs which is annoying, quicktime lags for 3-4 secs and instantly plays video very fast for 2-3 secs after that stays normal for a min
MplayerX never lagged while palying but all other itunes, vlc, quick time does.Post an image of Activity Monitor set to ALL PROCESSES and % CPU to display values from high to low. Lets see if there is a third party app that is a problem.
This is from mine:
Do you have any 'cleaning' or 'performance' applications installed?
Start up in Safe Mode and see if there is any change:

Hi for a few months my shift key stopped allowing me to select blocks of files and worked like the cmd key selecting just individual files. Apple store sold me a. New keyboard when I connected it first time it worked. But after shutting down mac it never worked again. Have just performed clean install of new mavericks as I was told it must be the permissions or other account settings etc. But 2 days later after lots of work shift still doesn't work. Every now and then it would work once and then. Not again. I work with photos a lot and only being able to choose individual files is a nightmare. Can anyone explain this problem.?
I installed mavericks from a USB and reformatted the hd. I set up a new user account added email, apple ID etc and then downloaded new iPhoto and iMovie. I manually copied documents, music inc itunes library folder and photos from time machine back up. I also copied original apps only using migration assistant to get idvd and garageband back as despite a lot of searching i couldnt find a way to selectively reinstall original apps not purchased from app store. Only third party apps are photoshop elements 9 and office 2011.

Firefox appears to be hijacked even after clean install.
Hello,
My sister has this weird problem on her computer and it was involved with Windows and Firefox. When she opens Firefox, her entire computer crashes down, shows a black desktop, and pulls up a BSOD (blue screen of death) the main error was CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION. Error code I believe was 0x0000004. Mysteriously, the minidump of that BSOD disappeared. I wondered that since this problem only happened when I opened firefox, I decided to clean install Firefox. I uninstalled Firefox with removal of personal data and customizations and installed a clean copy from Mozilla.org. Firefox is still unusuable. It doesn't cause the BSOD but it will not allow me to go to ANY URLS (initially, it showed me the "Firefox has been installed page" and another page that said "The address is not valid" any other URLS will not load if I hit enter or hit the go arrow key on the address bar) and the search box has no search engine at all! (icon is a blank file). I've tried reseting the program back to factory defaults. I've scanned for Malware on Malwarebytes Pro, GMER, TDSSKiller, and Hitman Pro. Every other program seems to work fine, at least I hope it does. My last resort is to reset this entire computer.Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
You can use the MSConfig program or the Autoruns utility to see which software and services are getting started.

Re: Satellite A500 slow even after clean install of Windows7
My laptop suddenly slowed down hugely about 4 weeks ago and seemed to have a virus problem causing a BSOD. Any attempts to solve this were unsuccessful so we have just done a clean install of Windows7 in the hope of solving the speed issue.
However it still takes several seconds to respond to each mouse click at a stage where only Bullguard anti-virus and Windows 7 are installed on the laptop.
I've checked that the latest BIOS is installed v1.90.
I've checked that all device drivers are up to date.
I've checked the hard drive for faults and bad segments.
Please can anyone offer help or advice?
Many thanks.Hi
Toshiba recovery disk allows you to set the notebook back to factory settings.
So using recovery disk you will get the same state like at the first day of purchase.
But nobody can say if your notebook would run faster after recovery procedure.
Usually the notebook should work properly also with installed Win 7
But if the notebook will work correctly after the installation of Recovery disk, then there must be something wrong with the installed Win 7 system. -
Constant Freeze Even After Clean Install Mountain Lion
Hi!
I have before started a post on similar topic but back then it ended with a clean install which worked nicely for merely a month.
Currently I am using 13' MBP 2010 with 2.4 GHz Core 2, 4 GB DDR3. 168GB free of use and latest Mountain Lion, 10.8.3.
My Mac started acting weird and all in all application I am opening.
It will freeze and show that beach ball for 1 or 2 seconds. Believe me, it's extremely annoying if you are listening to music with iTunes or editing photos with Aperture.
I had installed some apps like Aperture, PopClip, Pocket, Transmission, Onyx, Paragon NTFS.
I am tired of doing clean install and re-installing all the apps with their updates, not to mention restoring all of my datas from Time Machine.
I have done booting in Safe Mode and repaired permissions from there. I have reset PRAM/SMC.
Please anyone, enlighten me on this! The surface scan will take quite a while.
Aperture can pull quite a bit of RAM, so Raidiation Mac's suggestion about more RAM for pro apps is a good one, if all else turns up OK.
OnyX shouldn't be a problem but on the other hand you shouldn't need it for anything. Maintenance and optimization are things your Mac should be doing in the background with no further help needed. Downloading torrents is always iffy and an easy way to pick up malware. The rest of the third party apps I'm not familiar with.
I wish you had tested the clean install before adding the apps. If you have another disk you can do a clean install of ML on and run from that disk for a while, it would tell whether it was your Mac or the added software. -
Firefox window not displaying properly even after clean install
Hi - Yesterday firefox stopped displaying properly on my windows 64-bit dell laptop running Windows 7 home premium. When it starts up all I get is a thick translucent bar at the top of the window where the toolbars normally are, and the main content pane is jet black. I'm pretty sure firefox is actually running. If I pass the mouse over the transluscent bar the cursor changes to indicate whether in input boxes are for web addresses and the google toolbar, and task manager shows it is running the firefox start page. But I can see nothing.
I have uninstalled firefox, rebooted and done a clean install (twice) based on the help instructions, but no change. All other applications seem to be running normally. This is the first time I have ever had a problem with firefox.
Thankshello jp100, other users with this problem all had an embedded intel hd3000 graphics card with an old driver present. in case this also applies to you, here would be a link to update the driver, which in turn should also address the black firefox problem: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23764 (for win7 64 bit)
in case this doesn't solve the issue or does not apply to your system, start firefox into safemode '''by pressing the shift key while the application is launching''' & disable hardware acceleration in the firefox ''menu ≡ > options > advanced > general'' (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

Firefox won't install add-ons even after clean install
Add-on installation fails in one of the following ways:
1. Unexpected installation error -203, or
2. The add-on appears in the "Extensions" tab as "Not compatible with Firefox 3.6.3", even though it is.
Sometimes I get the first error, sometimes the second, but all attempts to install add-ons fail with one of them.
I have tried all the troubleshooting advice in the knowledge bases (e.g. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_install_themes_or_extensions_-_Firefox#Unexpected_installation_error_-203) but with no success. I even did a clean reinstall of Firefox in a new directory (as described here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox#On_Mac_OS_X) but the problem remains.
What else can I do?
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_3; en-US) AppleWebKit/533.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/5.0.375.38 Safari/533.4I have the same problem : impossible to install or update extensions; either by download (error -228) or by installing a local file (error -203). This is true for all situations : existing or new Firefox profile, different system users, etc.
I searched the kb, asked Google and so, but no solutions worked. The problem happens on all current versions of Firefox : stable, nightly,32 bits and 64 bits.
