Random KPs and random AHT 4MEM errors

Hello, i need some advice regarding my 21.5 iMac.
A little history : I bought it from the refurb 6 months ago and added 8 gig crucial ram (now 12 gig).
I have been experiencing KPs with a freeware video converter (handbrake) and thought it was due to overheating. I didn't really pay attention to those KPs.
Recently I have been experiencing a lot of KPs during Google Hangouts using Firefox and thought it was related to the Firefox extensions... I uninstalled them and started "hangouting" with safari, it seems to be fine..
Now, every time I run Time Machine I get a KP (maybe a different issue ..?)
So, I ran AHT a few times now (quick or extended mode)
I sometimes get a 4MEM/6/400000000 error, sometimes a 4MEM/66/400000000 error, and sometimes nothing…
Once it even froze and I had to do a hard restart with the power button..
Any of you have an idea ? It really seem RAM related no ?
Is there a way of knowing which of the 4 sticks might be defective ?
Do you think all my KPs are related to the RAM that is put to stress during video conversion, hangouts, Time Machine ?
Below are the 3 more recent KP logs..

Thank you for your support

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
These kernel panics are quite possibly related to RAM, more when Apple Hardware Test is telling you that a RAM module is damaged.
I recommend you to remove the Crucial RAM and keep only the RAM that came with your computer. If it works, buy another memory module at OWC or Crucial. If it doesn't work, put the Crucial RAM and remove the Apple RAM. If that works, take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller because your computer is in warranty and you will get new modules free of charge

  • Screensaver, random transitions and random photos

    Hi all, a simple question I hope.
    How can I create a screensaver which will display random photos from my library with random transitions between photos?
    I've got the random photos part working but despite many hours, I can't work out how get random transitions in the screensaver.
    Many Thanks

    I updated my themes and uploaded to my gallary on Muvipix. Here is the link to the post over there.
    http://muvipix.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=3890&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

  • Random silence and randomly stops playing

    This issue has come and gone with a few iTunes versions - starting with v7.x.
    Songs will play for a few minutes, or a few hours, then suddenly stop. It always does it between songs so one song will end and another will either not start (it selects the song but sits at 0:00) or it will continue to play with no sound.
    The only cure is to restart iTunes. I've reinstalled 8.2. My music is on an external firewire drive. All other features of iTunes work fine. I have 3 airport express units.

    Still doing it.
    Resizing the window to force a preference file update helped temporarily. The interesting development is that I tried playing music from another machine, via library sharing, and it did it there, too. So should I suspect hardware? I have a hard time believing that I have the same software issue on two machines when this doesn't appear to be a widespread issue.
    I am going to try another external drive.

  • Critical error and random reboots

    I have gotten critical errors and random reboots lately =( and it really stinks.. anyone who know what the problem might be?
    Is it my 40gb IDE hardrive I just put in?
    And it only happens in games

    How is your HD doing for heat?  When my HDs started getting hot my system kept crashing and rebooting as well.  My other thought is to try and uninstall, then re-install video drivers (with the latest drivers of course).  There have been times when my system has crashed becasue my vid drivers were on the fritz.  Anyways, those are just some of my thoughts.
    and just like cultie said, check the jumpers to make sure they are on the correct master/slave pins.

  • Random restarts and freezes. Just upgraded my RAM trying to diagnose new RAM as the problem but they pass Rember test.

    Hey so I have been dealing with random reboots and computer freezes since upgrading my RAM. I also reinstalled my 10.8.2 at the same time I upgraded my RAM. I have a Mac Mini Mid 2011 with the OWC Data Doubler Kit and a Crucial M4 128GB Boot drive. My computer reboots every 30 minutes or so and sometimes completely freezes up. I am trying to figure out if the new RAM is the issue as I can send them back. I have ran several Rember RAM tests but the computer freezes mid test so I can not see the issue. All other times it completeles the RAM test with no issues.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts on the memory modules when handling them. If necessary, clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol.
    The Apple Hardware Test, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.

    It is always best to avoid making changes to the selected text colors.<br />
    Firefox uses an algorithm to check if the contrast is sufficient and will swap text and background colors if that test fails.<br />

  • HH5 and Xbox One - randomly open and moderate NAT

    Having this annoying problem where the NAT keeps showing as randomly open and moderate. I have set a static I.p for it with no luck so far. I can switch it on and off a dozen times and it can show open, then be turned on the next dozen times and be moderate.
     The odd thing is that I have a PS4 and Xbox 360 attached and they both show as always having an open NAT. All devices are connected wired. Tearing my hair out over this.  I can't recall the last time I had to mess around with static I.p's a d whatnot. Everything just worked with my old Virginia set up. I do a fair bit of online gaming and so having an open Nat is important to me as even moderate with xbox live can be a real nuisance.  Thanks for any help.

    Well after googling non stop since around 4am this morning I have found what I think the problem is - and that makes the most sense.
     I can't port forward because the HH5 has assigned some of the ports to my Xbox 360 (this was with me only using upnp and NOT having tried any port forwarding) and so now it won't let me manually assign those ports to my Xbox one - hence the error message that I'm getting.
     The worst part is, that upnp SHOULD open those ports as needed when I switch my Xbox One on (I live alone and so both machines are never conencted at the same time) but it isn't, because for some reason it is keeping the shared ports solely for the Xbox 360.
     So I was trying to manually assign those ports with port forwading to force it to open those same ports on my Xbox One...but so far I haven't got as far as doing any port forwading whatsoever.
     I had a router with DD-WRT firmware on my old Virgin connection, and that allowed me to open whatever ports I wanted to whatever device I wanted, but it didn't matter because upnp worked properly on it. Unlike the HH5 which after all my reading has the same problems going back as far as the HH2. The internet is awash with people who couldn't get upnp or port forwading to work how it should.
     So far the only people gettng a stable open NAT seem to be those with one Xbox or the other, but NOT both. Which is ridiculous and only seems to affect home hub users.

  • Computer randomly crashing and restarting.

    I recently upgraded my 2010 Macbook Pro to Mountain Lion OSX. Ever since I upgraded my computer has been randomly crashing and restarting itself. I have looked online for many solutions. I have tried editing settings in system prefereneces, a hard drive repair, a fresh instal of the operating system, and even bringing the laptop into a local apple store. They did some diagnostic checks and a hard drive repair and sent me on my way. Even after all this it is still randomly crashing and restarting itself.
    The issue most often happens after being in sleep mode for a little while, atlhough it still occurs randomly throughout the day.I will bring it out of sleep mode and it will restart itself in the next minute or so.
    I copied a crash report since I have seen many people posting them here. I hope that you guys can help me identify the problem and fix it. I need to use this computer for school and I have many urgent projects coming up. I am covered under apple care, so a part replacement is not an issue. Any insight into the issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks - Andy

    You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. You might be able to resolve the problem by reinstalling OS X. Try that first, if you haven't done so already. Otherwise, you may be covered by this program:
    MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
    Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers may not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
    Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
    Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
    *An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
    You may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saver preference pane, but that's not a solution.
    Most likely, the logic board will be replaced. Sometimes the replacement is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility.

    My macbook air (version 10.9.4) display flickers, has random tabs and windows opening, and there are random ads almost everywhere. All this happens when I am using safari. What can I do?

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
    There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
    You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
    In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
    You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
    Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
    ☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
    ☞ Paste into the window of another application.
    ☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
    ☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
    The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
    and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
    If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
    to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
    At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
    If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Applications and random files have magically disappeared!!!

    Hello Everyone,
    I've been using my imac (OSX 10.5.5) daily for about 18 months with no problem whatsoever....until last when it started behaving erratically:
    1. external hard lacie firewire drives would not eject partitions (had to restart computer)
    2. for a period, the computer became very CPU hungry and slow for no apparent reason. i noticed in my istat widget that a particular process was the culprit, but unfortunately i didn't copy it down...
    3. my copy of entourage has given me several warnings to restart the application and that if the problem persists (whatever that is..??) i might have to rebuild my mail database. I have never received these errors messages from entourage before...
    To my horror, i then discovered the following:
    1. several iphoto albums had missing photos despite having being successfully imported from external media earlier in the day
    2. several application icons all of a sudden displayed a superimposed "?" in the dock
    3. the above mentioned applications magically disappeared COMPLETELY (eg, m/soft entourage, vuze, adobe acrobat), with no evidence of their existence in the applications folder. for example, even my entourage mail database file was completely removed from the documents/microsoftuserdata/office2008identities folder!
    4. several other files magically disappeared from the hard drive
    rebooting from an external source and attempting to repair/verify disk permissions resulted in the following error messages:
    +Started verify/repair permissions on disk disk0s2 Macintosh HD+
    +Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/OwnerGroupTool" has been modified and will not be repaired+
    +Warning: SUID file "usr/bin/lppasswd" has been modified and will not be repaired+
    +Group differs on "private/etc/cups", should be 0, group is 26+
    Thankfully, I have a recent (working) superduper clone of of HD, so i restored the entire system (using the smart update function as opposed to doing a clean install)
    (i stupidly neglected to enable my timemachine backups as of late, so i didn't have a 'most recent' time machine backup to restore to)
    OK so after doing the superduper restore, i decided to perform several dejavu backups of selected folders. BUT the backup failed, and i received the same disk permission error messages. In addition, i also got the following dejavu error log:
    +Backup Failed: No such file or directory - /var/db/volinfo.database+
    +-> /tmp/dejavu_manual.rb:329:in `readlines'+
    +-> /tmp/dejavu_manual.rb:329:in `main'+
    +-> /tmp/dejavu_manual.rb:858+
    CRAZY!!! What would cause my system to start magically deleting random applications and files???
    Can someone please tell me what these error messages mean?
    My next logical step is to perform the superduper restore again, but this time i will erase the destination drive first and do a clean install/restore. Before i embark on this, i was hoping someone could give me a little advice!
    Many Thanks.

    An improper shutdown or restart can cause the filesystem corruption.

    The repair permission errors are innocuous. Dejavu is looking for the volinfo.database which is missing. This database keeps a record of permission enabled and disabled mounts (disks).

  • Mac Air Randomly Freezes, and Has to Restart

    My mac air randomly freezes (usuially when browing the internet or youtube) and has to be restarted.  I think this is the error I get form console:
    com.apple.fontd: FODBError: FODBReadFromAnnexAuxFile - annexDB and annex_aux keys do not match
    what can I do to prevent my mac from freezing up and to fix this error?

    Boot in safe mode. This will cause certain caches maintained by the system to be rebuilt.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot than normal.
    When the login screen appears, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.

  • Random crashes and unable to browse onine despite being connected

    Hi there, I am experiencing crashes at random times, sometimes video sometimes the pc goes down. I was good until the last round of updates. I have another issue too now, I cant connect to my router or view any other devices in network. After a reboot,
    I can launch a web page, but after a few minutes, all I get is web page cant be displayed but I can ping sites fine. Even after relaunching IE, I get the same results. The connection fly out in the tray indicates Internet Access.... I am a bit lost here.

  • Discolouration and random shut downs - help!

    Hello,
    I am having serious problems with my MacBook and right now I am losing faith in Apple, frankly. I am not a troll, and I recently posted a very reasonable post asking for advice which was deleted by the admins without any explanation. What really angers me is that I develop software for this platform, and I have a best-selling novellist calling my application "the biggest advance in writing software since the word processor". Despite this, when I post my grievances (in a very reasonable and calm way) and ask for advice here, my post is deleted.
    I bought a MacBook when they first came out. Whithin three weeks, it suffered from discolouration, so I phoned AppleCare and the very helpful folks there agreed to take it in for repair. So, it went in, and three days later (great!), I received it back. Whilst it was in for repair, the engineers also replaced the hard drive, as apparently during their standard tests it was revealed that the one that came with the machine was about to fail - even though it was only two weeks old. I was also disappointed to see that the engineers had chipped the polycarbonate whilst replacing the top-casing and that they had failed to replace the screen bezel, which was also discolouring. On top of this, the new top-casing wasn't fitted properly. Still, I decided to see how things went, as I did not want to be without my computer again.
    Three weeks later, my machine was discoloured again, so I phoned AppleCare again. Again, they took it in and I was without my machine for nearly two weeks this time. When I got it back, they had replaced the top-casing (again), the screen bezel and the polycarbonate bottom casing. It looked brand new, so I was happy.
    Happy for three weeks, that is. After that, the discolouration returned. Am I the only one who has suffered discolouration repeatedly? Is this still an issue for anyone else? Or have I just been particularly unlucky? I wash my hands, and I don't see that it can be some weird Ph problem, given that my 3-year-old white iBook has no such problems.
    Anyway, after two "repairs" with no resolution, I decided to give up and put up with the discolouration. My new machine may look old and dirty, but at least it worked and was generally a joy to use... Until a couple of days ago, that is. Two days ago, I switched on my machine and three minutes later it shut itself down for now reason. I only had Mail and Camino running, nothing else. After that, every time I tried to boot up, it shut down within seconds - it barely even got to the Apple logo.
    Is this the random shut down issue I am hearing about?
    The only way I could get it up and running was to hold down the power button until it beeped. Once I did that, I verified the hard drive and it did have errors. So I fixed it using the install disk and hoped for the best. But two days later, upon booting up, it shut back down again. So I called AppleCare (who are always brilliant and helpful), and they walked me through resetting my PRAM. I then left my machine on, and other than the fan running more than usual, it seemed okay.
    But then, when I booted up my machine this morning, it did nothing. It got to the grey screen, and then I just got lots of coloured vertical lines, nothing more. I tried restarting several times, holding down the power button etc, but nothing helped. Eventually, I just reset the PRAM again, and this managed to get the computer booted.
    So now, obviously I am very worried. I thought these shut down issues only happened after start up, but about half an hour ago it happened after having the machine running for three hours. I tried calling AppleCare today but I was on hold for one hour, after which I had to hang up as I had an appointment. Frankly, I have paid £300 for AppleCare, and whilst the AppleCare reps are always great and more than helpful, it is just not good enough to pay this amount of money and then be put on hold for an hour. I have spent my savings on this machine and it looks dirty and old despite being only four months' old, and now it is shutting down randomly on me. I have lost all faith in it. I am upset, and now, to add insult to injury, mods on this forum deleted a post in which I was, if anything, over-complimentary about the way AppleCare have dealt with my issues, and they did so with no explanation. On reflection, perhaps it was the title of that post, so I hope this one will fare better, as checking the terms of agreement I believe I am abiding by them.
    I would just like to know if others have suffered from similar issues with their MacBooks, and how they have dealt with them. I would really like a new machine, right now, but I will be reasonable, of course. I think this is a valid question for this forum, and if the mods feel they need to remove this post, I would be very grateful if they could e-mail me and tell me why rather than leaving me feeling like I am being silenced.
    Has anybody been able to fix this random shutdown issue without sending it for repair? Have repairs been successful? Is anybody else still suffering from discolouration?
    Many thanks in advance for any help and advice. Please let me reiterate: I have spent the past two years dedicating all of my spare time developing a program for OS X, so I am committed to this platform. I am not a troll, just a customer with genuine problems.
    Thank you in advance for any advice,
    Keith

    I was in the middle of replying to your previous post when your post disappeared. That was interesting.
    Two
    days ago, I switched on my machine and three minutes
    later it shut itself down for now reason. I only had
    Mail and Camino running, nothing else. After that,
    every time I tried to boot up, it shut down within
    seconds - it barely even got to the Apple logo.
    Is this the random shut down issue I am hearing
    about?
    I would say yes.
    The only way I could get it up and running was to
    hold down the power button until it beeped.
    This throttles the CPUs to 1 GHz. Heat is somehow integral to the problem.
    Once I
    did that, I verified the hard drive and it did have
    errors. So I fixed it using the install disk and
    hoped for the best. But two days later, upon booting
    up, it shut back down again. So I called AppleCare
    (who are always brilliant and helpful), and they
    walked me through resetting my PRAM. I then left my
    machine on, and other than the fan running more than
    usual, it seemed okay.
    If the fan is running excessively often and loudly, try resetting the PMU:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319
    (This also resets PRAM.)
    But then, when I booted up my machine this morning,
    it did nothing. It got to the grey screen, and then I
    just got lots of coloured vertical lines, nothing
    more. I tried restarting several times, holding down
    the power button etc, but nothing helped. Eventually,
    I just reset the PRAM again, and this managed to get
    the computer booted.
    There is a bug in 10.4.7 that causes the vertical line problem after PRAM is reset. Once you have reset PRAM, go to Displays, set the screen resolution to anything else, then change it back. This trick writes to PRAM and makes the fix "stick".
    Has anybody been able to fix this random shutdown
    issue without sending it for repair?
    Not that I know of. Some have postponed repair with repeated workarounds like the 1 GHz throttle.
    Have repairs
    been successful?
    Apparently yes. My machine had the heat sink replaced and has not had a problem in the intervening month. Rumor has it that current repairs entail replacing the logic board and heat sink with a newly redesigned combination.

  • Polymorphism and Random Numbers

    Im having issues correctly using random numbers in this program.All I want to do is: generate 4 random ints,and 3 random operators,then prints the results in a toString() method
    import java.util.Random;
    public class TestArithmetic2 {
        // evaluate (int / int) - (int * int)) = result
          //((8.0 / 8.0) - (2.0 * 5.0)) = -10.0
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Node n = new RandomOps(
                new RandomOps(
                new RandomConst(), new RandomConst()),
                new RandomOps(new RandomConst(), new RandomConst()));
                   public Character RandomOperator(){
                        Random random = new Random();
                        //char array with characters
                        char[] chars = new char[]{'+','-','*','/'};
                        //Generate a random number
                        int r = randomChar.nextInt(chars.length);
                        //Get char at random index
                        char randomOps = chars[r];
                   public int RandomConstant(){
                        int randomConst = 1 + (int)(Math.random() * 20);
                   public String toString(){
                        return "(" + "(" + lChild.eval() + "-" + rChild.eval() + ")" + ")" + "=" n.eval();
            System.out.println(""+ n.eval());
    }

    Opps.Sorry.Here's everything that should help it compile.
    public class Node {
        public Node() {}
        public double eval() {
            System.out.println("Error: eval Node");
            return 0;
    import java.util.Random;
    public class TestArithmetic2 {
        // evaluate (int / int) - (int * int)) = result
          //((8.0 / 8.0) - (2.0 * 5.0)) = -10.0
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Node n = new RandomOps(
                new RandomOps(
                new RandomConst(), new RandomConst()),
                new RandomOps(new RandomConst(), new RandomConst()));
                   public Character RandomOperator(){
                        Random random = new Random();
                        //char array with characters
                        char[] chars = new char[]{'+','-','*','/'};
                        //Generate a random number
                        int r = randomChar.nextInt(chars.length);
                        //Get char at random index
                        char randomOps = chars[r];
                   public int RandomConstant(){
                        int randomConst = 1 + (int)(Math.random() * 20);
                   public String toString(){
                        return "(" + "(" + lChild.eval() + "-" + rChild.eval() + ")" + ")" + "=" n.eval();
            System.out.println(""+ n.eval());
    public class Binop extends Node {
        protected Node lChild, rChild;
        public Binop(Node l, Node r) {
             lChild = l; rChild = r;
    }

  • Bad keyboard causing random lockups and not allowing booting up?

    Will a bad keyboard, or keyboard port, make a computer lockup and keep it from rebooting?
    I have a slimline s3200n that has been having random lockups.  When I try to reboot it, it gets stuck at the startup screen (the one where you get the F9, F10, etc options).  I can hit F9 for hours and the computer does nothing.  I have to do another hard shutdown and if I wait for a little bit the computer will start back up again.  Will work fine, then randomly lockup and go through the cycle again.
    I tried to run the Hardware diagnostic utility but it gave me an error, didnt write down the exact error, but it was a timeout error while gathering hardware information.
    I am using the keyboard that came with the computer and I do not have another keyboard to use for a test.

    I have this exact same issue, and am wondering what to do. I have a 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and am using 10.4.11 as software. I have a Dell monitor. Anyone have any thoughts?
