Random noise at 2:30 am??

Hi! I just got my first blackberry a few days ago (the Curve 8520). I'm liking it so far, except that I keep having this random alert go off at about 2:30 am. I know it's not an alarm, because my alarm was already set and BB doesn't do multiple alarms. I'm pretty sure it wasn't some event alert, because I've scrolled through the calendar and can't find it. It's happened both nights that I've had the phone--and I don't like waking up at 2:30 am!!!
Any idea as to what this could be and how to fix it? I really don't think I set anything like that, so it must have come this way from the store? I'm desperately trying to fix this before tonight!

Have you checked your tasks aswell to make sure it isnt setup there?
Scroll through your list of 'Notification' tones. Identify what tone it actually is, go into your sound profile and find out what that tone is set to.

What is the "Random Noise" specification in the AI Absolute Accuracy Table

I have a PCI-6255 board that I'm planning to use for some sensitive measurements.
I'm trying to put together an end-to-end error budget and I have a couple questions.
My model is in terms of analog-to-digital converter counts (also known as LSB in your data sheet).
In the Absolute Accuracy table on page 5 of the NI 615x Specifications I see a column labeled Random Noise, (uVrms).
I think I understand the residual gain error, residual offset error, and associated Tempco, and the INL error but the Random Noise is puzzling me.
Here is why: on the +/- .2V range, the random noise is 16 uV. On this range, the ADC resolution is 6.1 uV so the random noise is about 2.6LSB
If I look at the +/-5V range I see a random noise of 140uV. On this range, the ADC resolution is 305uV so the random noise is well under one LSB.
Therefore, in my error budget I can use "1 LSB" for the random noise when on the 5V range but I have to use "2.6" or "3" LSB when on the .2V range.
I expect a signal of aproximately 150mV riding on a 2.5V DC level. I was concerned I might need to offset the signal (remove the 2.5V dc) in order to use the +/-.2 volt range to get better resolution. I also thought I would get better noise performance too. In looking at the numbers here though it looks like I would be better off using the +/-5V range (assuming it gives good enough resolution) because the readings have less noise counts (even though it is more noise volts).
I can account for the Gain Error and Offset Error by injecting known signals and doing a "software correction". Not sure, but I believe I can also correct for the INL if I use a polynomial fit of 2nd or 3rd order. It's the random noise I'm having problems understanding.
Here's the question: what is the Random Noise shown in the AI Accuracy table for the 625x boards? Can you give an example of how NI might have measured it?
Secondly, note 2 says "Sensitivity is the smallest voltage change that canbe detected. It is a fucntion of noise." Was this measured with a signal-to-noise ratio of "1" or "2" or some other standard, or is this a calculated value?

This is a fairly simple homework problem. My hints (on the LabVIEW side):
1- look at while loops
2- look at shift registers on while loops with multiple input elements
3-look at the logic components, AND, OR XOR

Do the work, you won't learn if someone shows you how it is done! The palette that the previous post points to are of PRN and other "noise generators" but I suspect that is not what you are after.
Know that creating a PRN with a reasonable number of shift register taps produces very pseudo results, as the "random" pattern begins to repeat pretty quickly, thereby making it not a truly random number.
When you have an attempt that is sort of working and want additional suggestions, post the code here. We won't do your work, we will help you try to do it, and learn it, yourself.

CX61 2OD random noise problem

Hello, my english is bad but I try to describe it.
My notebook has random noise, it comes like from "left speaker area" but I am not sure. I muted speakers and disabled sound card but noise keeps coming.
It's not like HDD noise, more like a " cızzzt" . It's coming always in same tone and same length.
What is it? Fan,speaker,hdd or ? What should I do?
(I tried some small tests for HDD and CPU but noise didn't come.)

Random noise bursts in bounces

I posted once before on this topic... but it seems to me that the problem is getting worse. When I bounce a project to disk, I almost always end up with random bursts of white noise which occur once or twice, lasting anywhere from a fraction of a second to several seconds. This means I have to be very very careful to open the bounced files and check if they are OK, before trusting that I can play them without scaring people or potentially damaging their ears (I am doing sound design for a theatre production). I have never had an audio app behave like this. I have turned on/off normalization, dithering, tried different sample rates, etc, and I continue to get these noise bursts. If anyone has similar experiences, or suggestions for a solution, I'd like to hear from you! Although I like Logic very much, I can't use it if this continues.

...this could be a number of things. A defective plugin, corrupted system sound software, coreaudio drivers screwed up, etc etc.
So, if you bounce the same project twice, is there always noise somewhere? Or is it only sporadically? And does this noise completely substitute the music where it occurs?
Also: have you got anything (app) running in the background while bouncing?
First approach: try bouncing the project 'plugless'. Make a copy of the project, disable all plugs (including SI's - export and reimport them as audio first) and see if the problem persists. If it goes away, one of the plugs may well be the problem. I would most suspect an SI, but an effect could also be the cause.
If it persists, the plugs are not the problem.
If you already haven't, also follow these tips where they apply:

Creating a random noise (Gaussian) using Matlab Script

Hello,
Since I only have Labview 6.1 base, I can't use the white-noise generator in Labview. I'm thinking of using the Matlab Script. I have Matlab 2006R installed in the same computer. However, I tried running the program and nothing happened (I used the help example "a=rand(50);surf(a)" in the Matlab Script.
Why it's not calling the Matlab, or is there a better way to create a Gaussian distribution in Labview 6.1 Base?

Why are you unable to use the Gaussian White Noise VI in LabVIEW 6.1? It is under the Analyze >> Signal Processing >> Signal Generation palette. I have attached a simple VI that illustrates creating a matrix.
If you wish to use the MATLAB® script node, let's first make sure it is working correctly. Try opening one of the LabVIEW shipping examples. Browse to <LabVIEW>\examples\scriptnode and open "HiQMATLAB_Fractal.llb." Then open "MATLAB Fractal.vi." Run the VI. Do you get any error windows that pop up? If not and you see a picture of a fractal appear, then the connection to the MATLAB software is working correctly. In your VI, try creating an error out indicator from the MATLAB script node and see if any errors appear.
If you do see an error in the shipping example, it means there is a problem with the software connection. Make sure that you have launched the MATLAB software at least once after you installed it. This will set up the necessary connection information. Then launch LabVIEW. If this isn't the issue, we could try manually restoring the server commands. Make sure LabVIEW and the MATLAB software are not running. Go to a command prompt, browse to the MATLAB bin directory (e.g. MATLAB\R2006b\bin), and type
matlab -regserver
Quit the instance of the MATLAB software that appears and launch LabVIEW. If this also fails, please post again with any error information you receive.
Also, the rand function in your script will not generate a Gaussian distribution. You will need to use the randn function instead.

0404 USB Random Noises Coming From Left Input

Hi,
I've had my 0404 for a year. Everything's been fine until recently. Now the left input jack always has signal coming in even when nothing is plugged in. It makes the clipping indicator is constantly flashing red. And enabling direct monitoring reveals a very harsh noise.
I'm running on Mac OSX 10.5. But i've tried on a different Windows computer and I've tried with different USB cables with no success. I've also tried with different software including the bundled software. I'm running the very latest drivers and firmware downloaded from Emu's website.
Any solutions?

The 0404 USB can work stand alone as a Pre Amp, as well as with a PC or MAC.
Do you have this issue if it isn't connected to the PC?
If you do you may want to contact technical support about getting an RMA.

I- Pad 2 Making random noises

Hi,
I just got an I Pad 2 after my other I Pad broke. The new I-pad works fine except it will make random sounds( it sounds like a swooshing sound). Any idea what that might be?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

Random noise of door slamming

Every now and then my computer makes a noise somewhat like a door slamming (although somewhat softer). I guess it is some kind of notification, but I can't figure out what. It's not mail. It's not calendar.
Any ideas as to what this is or how I can find out what it is?

I have AIM listed (at the bottom of the column with the names). However I think ttat the names I have listed (there are 6 listed) are all people with iPhones who I have been texting with.

Random Noise

For the past week my iPhone 4 has been playing the push notification sound at 1am every morning. All alarms are off, no events are scheduled, no 3rd party calendar or clock apps installed and no actual notification is displayed. Any ideas?

Maybe try an erase and reinstall everything? Might fix the glitch. If not take it to your local Apple store and get a new phone. Good luck.

Random noise during YouTube vids on iPhone 5S

I was watching YouTube on my iPhone 5S and suddenly in the middle of it there was this boingy sound(it wasn't a notification). At first I thought it was a one-time thing, but then it happened again, and then again the next day. Any ideas?

WiFi always turns off when the phone goes to sleep (unless it is connected to power). That's why many streaming apps have an option to keep the phone from going to sleep. The other solution is to trick the phone into thinking its plugged in using an external battery such as a Mophie Juice Pack.

Random Clap Noise, Macbook Pro

For the last week or so I have been hearing a random noise occur on my Macbook Pro. I just got it for Christmas so it is brand new. The only way I can really describe it is almost a clapping sound. I have no idea where it is coming from. I have even tried to shut off my computer and turn it back on and once I start going on Safari it seems to make the noise. It doesn't happen all the time which makes me feel crazy. And the fact I can't figure out where it is coming from is infuriating. Help!

I had the same issue - turns out it was notification sounds in Messages. Every time someone logged in or out it made that clap sound. Disabled it and not a peep clap since.

Z key not working. Cursor not working. Random error noise. Ahhh!

There has not been any liquids spilled on my laptop. The key has simply just stopped working but also working at the same time when I am not touching it. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz is constantly being typed as soon as I start the laptop. Another issue is a random noise that occurs like an error noise but it does not stop unless I press alt or enter. Also sometimes when I put my cursor on a menu it jumps around not going to where I am directing it. I haven't had issues with this laptop until now. It is only about 6mos old and now all of sudden there are so many issues with it.

Creating random timeseries in Labview to Arbitrary wave generator

I do not know anything about Labview but somehow i need to get this task done.
How do i make a random data time series using the data arrays in a text file to be generated into the arbitrary wave generator? Can somebody please provide an example file for this?

There are several ways to do something like this.
First, many Arbs also have function generating capabilities, including random noise generation. What exact arb are you using?
If your arb doesn't have this capability you could use the Gaussian White Noise Waveform VI to create a noise waveform that you could then load into your arbitrary waveform generator. How to do this part depends on your arb. What exact arb are you using?
In short, more information is needed, including the arb you are using and what you have done so far in getting this to work.

Display noise after using VGA projector

I taught two terms at the university using my MB Air 2012 with a VGA projector. Each time I connected the Mac to the projector and took it off, there was random noise on the display. I considered it as normal. Now the lessons are over and I don't use the projector any more. However, every time I turn on the Mac and when I shut it down, I see the same noise on the display. Otherwise, there are no problems.
Is there a way to get rid of that noise?
