Random play mode stuck in "per Album"

Hi,
I have this issue for a long time now and I'm starting to think it comes from my iTunes Library DB itself because I've imported it from my previous mac and it keeps doing the random mode per album.
No matter what I choose, when I'm in the library, if I enable the random play, it will always play the whole album, even if I've selected the "per tracks" mode.
Can someone provide support, please ?

Someone has an idea ?
Edit :
As a workaround, I was thinking about reseting the whole iTunes DB but I really don't want to lose playcounts, rankings and playlists (this DB has 4 years with more than 1000 albums).

The problem is with one long song Greatful Dead song from the Europe 72 CD ("I Know You Rider"). It is all one track but in random play mode the player always switches to another track before the track is finished playing. Any suggestions?Message Edited by mongatu on -26-2004 04:58 PM

I was wrong in my original post in that the song is not all one track as I originally stated. The song is a long "jam" that contains several songs which run together, but they are divided into separate tracks, although there is no actual break between them. Obviously the player splits them up in random play mode. When the album is played they play in the correct order but there is a slight gap from one track to the next.
I wonder if there is anyway to combine the tracks together into one track so they would play correctly in random play mode?

  • Zen Touch - Random play interupt

Occasionally when using random play mode around 20 minutes after starting, my Touch stops mid-song and re-boots from the intro screen. All on it's own, it starts playing from the point where I originally turned it on 20 or so minutes earlier.... same song, same volume settings, etc. After this happens, I did the disc clean-up and reboot/rebuild library, and all seems well. But it still occasionally happens. I haven't been adding music lately, so I don't think it has anything to do with fragmented files. Any help out there?
Other than this relati'vely minor problem and my inability to synch with WMP0 playlists, I love my Touch!

I don't think the Touch has a sleep timer, but it shouldn't cause it to spontaneously reboot either.
Do you have the latest firmware, or have you tried reloading the firmware?

  • Zen Vision M: Random Play All, press FF button, becomes Album of the

OK, I choose 'Random Play All' from the DJ menu, and it does queue all the tracks. But if a track that I do not want to listen to comes up, I press the >> Fast Forward button to try to skip to the next song in the queue, but then it goes to 'Album of the Day' mode.
It does this no matter what 'Play Mode' I have the player in.
    I have upgraded the firmware.
My Zen Xtra did not do this....
    Any idears?

Sounds like you both need to report it as a bug. In my experience bugs mentioned here don't tend to get fixed.
Go to the support section under contact, and file a report there of the bug.
That way a ticket will get made and put in the system and sooner (most likely later) we might see a fix in the next firmware.

    hello,
I had the same issue. This is what I was told to do.
iWork has to be removed completely to be effective when re-installing, you must use an application removal tool to do this or it wont remove every Keynote file.
Appcleaner   will do this and its free.
The following procedure has helped solve many issues with Keynote:
1  Close Keynote then use Appcleaner
    2  Empty the Trash
3  Shut down the Mac, then restart and press the shift key immediately after the startup sound, then release shift when the Apple logo appears
allow the Mac to boot up to the desktop, it will take longer then usual as the hard drive is being repaired
    4  restart the Mac
    5  Reinstall iWork
    6  Repair permissions:
Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > First  Aid:   click on your system disc in the drive column
              and select Repair  Disk Permissions

  • TS2776 Iphone library syncing only first song per album

Help, My Iphone was wiped after multiple failed password entry attempts, the phone was protected by NSA level security software, and after adding a Survivor protective case, I was mistyping one of the didgets.I was able to restore my purchased apps from my iTunes purchase history, but all of my music, short of a few songs were imported from my hundreds of CD's. My husband has the same music on his phone, yet not quite as much, as his phone is a 32, while mine is a 64. Rather than take the hours of Homesharing the music to my iTunes, since we both use backup drives for out computers, I thought it much simpler to simply plug his Back up into my PC, and copy the Music file to my iTuned folder.Yeas... This was quite abit faster, and all of the music is avaiable to listen to on my PC via iTunes.
Ok, here is my issue, When I sinc my phone all of the artists, as well as albums show up on my phone, however only the first song per album is available to play via the phone, all other songs have a square within a circle to the right of the song title, as if it is in download mode.
I turned on automatic download over wifi, and even tried clicking on the links showing, they change to a circle, and then teturn to cntaining a square, Is there a way to fix this issue, or do I have to go CD by CD and manually import the music all over again, as it will be several days work.
I normally consider myself to be very good at solving computer issues, but this has me baffled, has anyone got an idea ?

I've been having the same problem after I restored my iPhone. It's been nearly 8 months since vaporwave first posted this question and, so far, it hasn't been addressed by Apple in an update. It's sad that we have to find a workaround for this issue, especially because it's not the ideal solution (checking each artist probably means I'll end up with all of their songs, including some that I don't want in my iPhone).

  • Is there a way to choose a song without altering play mode?

I recently got an Ipod Nano 16g and its my first i-product. I gotta say, the whole searchable database method of organizing songs is kind of counterintuitive to me, especially in how it relates to play mode and song searches.
For example, I downloaded the recent series of Mp3's from Phish's 3 days in VA. There are three different albums, each with multiple discs. If I use the album browsing feature where you tilt the thing sideways to look through the albums and their cover art, its easy enough to find the first of the three albums.
Ok, great, it plays. But it only plays the first disc worth. I want it to continue to the next one.
Is there any way to enable a mode so that no matter what song you choose to play, it will "just continue to the next song in the 'all songs' playlist"?
That's all I really want to do. I have a lot of MP3's and unless I'm listening to a specific album, I like keeping it on "random". Sometimes I want to listen to a specific song, but no matter what method of search I do for that song, it seems to change the play mode.
Like, I search by album as described above, it will only play that album. If I search by artist, it only plays songs from that artist. If I search for a song, it only plays that one song, even if I have random mode enabled. If I go into the "now playing" playlist, I can click forward and backward until I come across the song I want but that is crazy tedious when there's 2k songs to go through.
All I want to do is be able to search for a particular song, play that song, then continue on with what it was doing before, either "all songs" or songs from a particular playlist. Every other media player I've ever encountered, including my car stereo (via USB flash drive) works that way. I'd set up the ipod in "disk mode" for my car, but then I couldn't use the ipod as an ipod, not to mention the car stero recognizing the ipod as an ipod so I couldn't access the songs anyway.
I'm hoping there's something simple I've overlooked, maybe one of the menu options I don't fully understand.
    Thanks for any help!

There are several points in your post.
I like keeping it on "random".
If you want to play any list in shuffle mode (which is random order), go to the Settings screen on the iPod and set Shuffle to Songs.
Ok, great, it plays. But it only plays the first disc worth. I want it to continue to the next one.
In iTunes, you can create a new playlist. You do so by clicking the + (plus) sign at the bottom left corner of the iTunes window (or from the File menu). Name the playlist appropriately. Put all the songs you want (in this case the songs in this collection) in the playlist, by dragging and dropping them (to the playlist) from the main iTunes music library. After syncing the iPod, instead of playing the album, play the playlist.
You can also change the way this particular collection is categorized in iTunes. Go to the main Music listing under LIBRARY in the iTunes sidebar. Click on the list heading for Artist (or Album ) so that you can see all of the songs from this collection together. You can edit what iTunes has in the album field for each song so iTunes that considers all the songs to be in one album, if you want to do something like that. How the songs are organized on the iPod depends on how they are organized in iTunes.
it will "just continue to the next song in the 'all songs' playlist"?
You will have to show a list on the iPod (either a playlist or a by-artist list or a by-album list) that shows ALL the songs you want to eventually play. Then the iPod will play that list, either sequentially or in shuffled order. If you want it to continue playing after playing through the list, you can set, on the iPod's Settings screen, Repeat to All.
All I want to do is be able to search for a particular song, play that song, then continue on with what it was doing before
I think creating playlists is the answer. Then you'll get your favorite songs.
However, if you want to pick a starting songs and make it play continuously through your entire library randomly, its
Music -> Songs -> pick song to play
To make it play that list in shuffle mode, set the Shuffle setting to Songs.
If you just want to start a shuffled sequence at a random song, select +Shuffle Songs+ from the iPod's main screen. With the 4th gen nano, you should also be able to shake it to start a shuffled sequence. This plays all of your songs in a random order.
There is also the Genius feature, where you can choose a starting song and let the iPod create a playlist of 25 songs that +work well+ with that starting song. A very cool feature I use often.

  • IPhone 3G randomly plays song list, can't stop it

My iPhone 3G has recently stopped playing albums or playlists sequentially. It goes into a random shuffle mode, though there isn't any apparent icon that states it's in random mode. How do I stop this so I can listen an album straight through?

I have the very same problem. As does a friend who recently purchased a new iPod Touch.
When I look at the screen and compare it to the iPod instruction manual, I can see that there's a line of controls missing. Under the scrubber/volume bar, there are NO Repeat/Shuffle/Genius buttons. So we can't turn shuffle on or off while playing a song/album.
All my software is update to date in iTunes and on my iPhone. Has anyone else had this problem? It's really, really annoying not to be able to play an album all the way through.

  • X-FI2 Random Play All Problem

    HI All,
I've spotted another prob with X-FI2 whichI think may be linked to it not recognising all albums on the player. Has anyone else noticed that if you go to the DJ option and choose Random Play All, it chooses only 00 tracks (the same tracks every time) and just cycles through them. Its driving me mad, I have 4300 tracks on uploaded but its just cjhoosing those 00 to play. Its also annoying because 99.9% of the time I have my mp3 player on this play mode.
Anyone spotted this too, and can it be fixed without firmware update?
Just thought, also, does anyone know of a proper user guide for the X-FI2. I've downloaded Creative Centrale but can't find any doc with more thorough instructions in than are in the quickstart guide?
Thanks in antcipation of any assistance

Having sorted these problems, I thought I'd reply to my own posting so other Zen newbies can share.
If you update with the .0 firmware, that fixes the problem of the random play all choice only cycling through 00 tracks.
To get user manual for the X-FI2, you need to install the Creative Centrale software. This then creates a folder in your program files called Creative (C:/program files/creative). The user manual is in there.
These are probably dead basic answers to dead basic questions, but if you didn't know the answer, then it might as well be the hardest answer in the world.

  • Undo Random Play on a Zen V p

I have a ZenV plus(with latest firmware) I put on random play through DJ.
Now everything I play ;ie, album, artists, all, anything plays random. I have 'searched' with no luck.
Can anyone guide me on how to stop random play?
    HS

Hi...this is from the User's Guide on the CD that came with your player:
Shuffling and repeating the list of selected tracks
You can shuffle or repeat your list of selected tracks by selecting a different play mode.
    Press the Back/Options button.
You may need to do this more than once until the main menu appears.
    Select Play Mode.
Select one of the following items in the Play Mode screen:
    Normal
Plays your selected tracks in sequential order.
    Repeat Track
    Repeats the current track.
    Repeat All
    Repeats all selected tracks.
    Shuffle
Plays all selected tracks in random order, once only.
    Shuffle Repeat
Plays and repeats all selected tracks, in random order.
    Track Once
Stops playing after the current track ends.
    Tip
To change the play mode in the Now Playing or Selected Music screen during playback, press and hold the Back/Options button and select Play Mode

  • The shortcut button and the "random play all" m

    hi everybody,
    here is my question:
is it right that when i asign "random play all" to the shortcut button it even overwrites the skip forward and backward buttons...probably because it also sets the play mode to "shuffle". but then, when i asign "album of the day" to shortcut button it doesn?t change back the play mode from shuffle to normal...
    strange...
does anybody experience similar issues ?
    thanx
    christoph

That's correct, you have to manually change it to normal play if you don't want it to shuffle. I love that feature (the shortcut)

  • Random Play Scripting Help

I am now about to embark on my 3rd concept for scripting a random play DVD. Basically the issue I keep running into is that I have too many pieces of media (81 to be exact) that need to play and it's pushing DVDSP further than it is capable of going.
My first script had too many commands (1 jump for each track based on a random GPRM setting), so it failed on the build. Inspector shows 323 commands, and I am in the negative by 19 commands remaining. Looked like this:
    ran GPRM 0, 80
    Goto 1 if (GPRM 0 = GPRM1)
    mov GPRM 1, GPRM 0
    Jump Track 1 if (GPRM 0 = 1)
    Jump Track 2 if (GPRM (0 =2)
and so on and so forth until
    Jump Track 81 if (GPRM 0 = 80)
Second script had only 4 commands, all the clips in one track and each chapter's end jump pointed to the script. 81 markers/end jumps so that's over the limit of 106 chapter markers and individual chapter end jump settings per track as detailed here, http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93681
    Script Looked like this:
    ran GPRM 0, 82
    Goto 1 if (GPRM0 = GPRM 1)
    mov GPRM 1, GPRM 0
    Jump Track 1 [GPRM 0]
So both of these work in theory and in simulator, but they can't build due to their excessive nature. Any thoughts on a randomizing script that can accommodate 81 clips? I am really struggling here to come up with new ideas and could use some help. Deadline looms! TIA!

    Hi Evan,
The DVD-Video Specifications provide a way to randomize playback, with no programming/scripts, almost unlimited numbers of programs (segments of a Track divided by markers). Randomizing up to 99 is a piece of cake - but it takes getting a license of DVDAfterEdit.
You start in DVD SP, of course, and then after the Build, adjust the Title PGC with your clips divided by program (marker) into what's called 'Shuffle" mode. There's a few another tweaks, but in short order you now have a Title PGC (Track Program Chain) that will randomly play all the clips, with no repeats. Navigation is lightning quick, because playback never has to seek the IFO file at the head of the VTS (Track), or the VMG at the head of the disc (slows playback waaaay down).
Anyway, just thought I'd mention it since you seem so determined.
Here's a recent thread over at the DVDAfterEdit site that goes over the concept:

on the first slide, select one of the text boxes
