Random programs always crashing

anyone else having this issue? itunes crashing randomly. camino crashing. just everything seems to just 'unexpectedly quit'
hope this update comes soon

I agree with you on the update! There are a ton of things that don't seem to work quite right with 10.5.1.
However, in the meantime you should try Repairing Permissions on your drive. Check the built in Help for info.
Hope this helps.

    Thank you for your reply.
I don't build array continuously. I just build a few queues. I am sorry the program is too large to show it to you. I have read the dump file. It seems like memory overflow. Do you think so? But it seems like there is no chance for memory overflow in Labview. The dump file is as below:

  • Why do random programs keep crashing?

every since i started getting these osx updates, i have notice random programs and sometimes even the computer crashes for no reason!
chrome crashes all the time, now, with an "aw shucks smiley face thingy!"  itunes freezes andor closes during playback or trying to get to the itunes store.  the random program app here and there closes suddenly.  am i a bout to lose my hard drive?  i am afraid to back up my system fearing i will back up whatever is causing the problem, too.  i have checked for malware and spyware and viruses and have found nothing.  i have tried changing settings on ad blockers.
what's going on?  are many other users having similar problems?  are these because of the updates?

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) on the advice of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin; clear; Fb='%s\n\t(%s)\n'; Fm='\n%s\n\n%s\n'; Fr='\nRAM details\n%s\n'; Fs='\n%s: %s\n'; Fu='user %s%%, system %s%%'; AC="com.autodesk.AutoCAD  com.evenflow.dropbox com.google.GoogleDrive"; H='^[[:space:]]*((127\.0\.0\.1|::1|fe80::1%lo0)[[:space:]]+local|(255\.){3}255[[:space:]]*broadcast)host[[:space:]]*$'; NS=networksetup; PB="/usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c Print"; A () { [[ a -eq 0 ]]; }; M () { find -L "$d" -type f | while read f; do file -b "$f" | egrep -lq XML\|exec && echo $f; done; }; AT () { o=`file -b "$1" | egrep -v '^(A.{16}t$|cann)'`; Ps "${1##*/} format"; }; Pc () { o=`grep -v '^ *#' "$2"`; l=`wc -l <<< "$o"`; [[ l -gt 25 ]] && o=`head -n25 <<< "$o"`$'\n'"[$((l-25)) more line(s)]"; Pm "$1"; AT "$1"; }; Pm () { [[ "$o" ]] && o=`sed -E '/^ *$/d;s/^ */   /;s/[-0-9A-Fa-f]{22,}/UUID/g;s/(ochat)\.[^.]+(\..+)/\1\2/;/Shared/!s/(\/Users\/)[^/]+/\1-/g' <<< "$o"` && printf "$Fm" "$1" "$o"; }; Pp () { o=`$PB "$2" | awk -F'= ' \/$3'/{print $2}'`; Pm "$1"; }; Ps () { o=`echo $o`; [[ !     Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Problem with threads, program always crash

new to threads, may be doing something COMPLETELY wrong. When I run the program I get a couple of NullPointerExceptions in Thread-0 and Thread-1. I'm confused because it screws up when I call size() for arrayList, and in the API size doesn't throw anything.

         }this is deadlock
    *int list = 0;*
*while((list = record.size)<1) was screwing things up because of the assignment*record is ArrayList of strings. when better to use Vector instead of ArrayList? i notice no differnce and i use threads
initially I thought record.size was being evaluated and before could be assigned to list, time slice ran out. this could not be case because I use ReentrantLock (list) to lock it.

  • Whenever I log on to my computer 5 random programs always launch.

I attempted to see if they were on my login settings however they were not. I also attempted to check the start up folder in my library and they were not there either.
I am wondering how i can make it so my computer does not turn on any program when I log on.

  • Random Programs Keep Crashing.

So I have had my Macbook Pro Retina 13' for a little over a year now, and It has been working fine until a couple days ago. I was trying to get a file on my hard drive into my external hard drive and finder wasn't responding. I tried restarting my computer then it just got slower. I watched a tutorial that said to drag the com.apple.finder.plist file onto your desktop and I did so, restarted my computer, then it seemed to be working fine. Then I started playing CS:GO and it just said "not responding". I started playing other games and they just did the same (P.S. all of my games are on my external hard drive). And my computer was almost unusable. I had to force quit almost every program I opened because they all froze. This hasn't happened before and I haven't downloaded anything for the past couple weeks.
    Specs:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  4GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Graphics  Intel Iris 1536 MB
    I have OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)
    Please help.

Disconnect the external drive and see whether there's any change.

  • Photohop CS3 Always crashes

No matter what I do, this program always crashes. All the other programs in the Creative Suite work just fine. Not sure whats going on? I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times, even a different version of Creative Suite and it still crashes. I have 2GB Ram so there is no problem there plus 65GB hard drive space.

I still advocate Repairing Permissions (with Apple's Disk Utility) before AND after any system update or upgrade, as well as before AND after installing any software that requires an installer that asks for your password.
I have seen software installations go sour because the installer did not find everything as and where it should be.
I have also seen software installations go bad because the installer did not clean up after itself properly and did not leave everything as and where it should be.
This is just my own personal opinion and practice based on my own observations. Others may disagree and that's OK. I can only base my routines and my advice to others on my own experience and conclusion. I don't pretend to know why others believe otherwise.
Repairing Permissions after the fact (i. e. not immediately before and after an install) may NOT help. Try it anyway, though.
    ====
Additionally, if your machine does not run 24/7 so that it runs the daily, weekly and monthly Cron Scripts in the middle of the night as intended by Apple, run Cocktail (shareware) as well.
Cron Scripts are maintenance routines designed by Apple to run on a daily, weekly and monthly basis in the middle of the night.
If you don't run them, you WILL run into trouble, sooner rather than later.
Here's an excerpt from the Apple tech doc http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107388
Mac OS X performs background maintenance tasks at certain times if the computer is not in sleep mode. If your computer is shut down or in sleep at the designated times, the maintenance does not occur. In that case, you may want or need to run these manually.
Mac OS X periodically runs background tasks that, in part, remove system files that are no longer needed. This includes purging older information from log files or deleting certain temporary items. These tasks do not run if the computer is shut down or in sleep mode. If the tasks do not run, it is possible that certain log files (such as system.log) may become very large.
    Also, from: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106978
The disk activity generated by find is a normal part of file system maintenance, used for tasks such as removing invisible temporary files that are used by the system. It is scheduled to occur early in the morning at 03:15 everyday, 04:30 on Saturdays, and 05:30 on the first day of each month.
    NOTE:
There have been comments to the effect that Apple "fixed" this in 10.4.2 and later versions of the OS, but I have not been able to verify this to my satisfaction. The reference in the 10.4.2 release notes are far from explicit on this subject.

If you have DiskWarrior, run it regularly too.

  • Random Program Crashes---feels like a Windows machine

I am having very random program crashes, mainly with AOL Instant Messenger and Safari.
For AIM, I will merely be typing or navigating between IM boxes, and a message will pop up that says:
    "The application AIM quit unexpectedly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple."
I can post the technical specifications of the report if there is anyone that would actually be able to decipher them.
I just recently got this machine--less than 21 days ago--and it has had this problem virtually straight out of the box.
If there is any more information that anyone needs, I will be happy to provide. Please let me know if anyone else has had this problem and if there is anything I can do to fix it.

Ty - It is certainly not unheard of to receive a complex electronics system with an intermittent defect that had escaped the manufacturer's QA tests. But in your case, since the problem started the moment you installed AIM, then that's what I would focus on. Even though you uninstalled it and reinstalled it, there is no real way to know for sure what the AIM uninstaller may have left behind. Since you've only had your machine for 3 weeks, I would suggest doing a clean install of the system. I know it's a pain, but if it worked fine before the AIM install/remove and not afterwards (and you've only installed a small number of apps), I think that's your best move.
Only this time, use iChat rather than AIM.

  • Installed Leopard, Random Programs Crash Repeatedly

I installed Leopard on my MacBook in the past few days and since then have problems with Safari, Mail, Yahoo Messenger and Skype randomly locking up/crashing. As in crashing several times a session. I do not have any other non-standard programs, plenty of disk space, and everything else about the new OS seems to work fine. Any ideas about a solution?

Ok to transfer stuff from one computer to the other:
Have the computer with the info/files you want off and the one you want the stuff to on
Hook them up with a Firewire to Firewire cord
Turn on the computer with the files while holding down "T" the whole time
It will show up on your new computer as an external drive
Then use the magic of Copy and Paste.

  • Safari 4.0 Beta always crashing on Windows XP...

I had a Windows XP partition (which ended up getting very bad malware, so I deleted it and started a new one) on my MBP, and Safari 4.0 Beta always crashed on it (this was before the malware infection). Now, jump to my new Windows XP partition: so far, Safari 4.0 crashed only once in the few hours I had it (I'm expecting it to probably crash again very soon). Is there any known bug(s) with Safari 4.0 Beta to cause it to crash this often? Am I better off downgrading to 3.x?

So I'm assuming, then, that there are some bugs that need working out with Safari 4.0 Beta for Windows. After all, I've used Safari 4.0 Beta for Mac ever since it was released and I never had it crash once. I guess, if Safari keeps randomly crashing on me in Windows, I'll have to temporarily downgrade to 3.x until they fix this issue with a finalized 4.0...

  • [SOLVED] Gnome 3 always crash

I tried to install gnome 3 on the system, when I typed startx, gnome 3 occurs with a long time and when it appears , there is no icon appears, and no desktop background. Only menu bar appears in white (not like the look of all gnome 3 normally) and when I tried start application gnome 3 always crash and forced to logout. I do not know what should I do, I tried reinstall MesaLib (with gallium-llvm), Gnome-Session, Gnome-Desktop and others but still error. Error log said to many warning.

  • IDVD 6.0.4 always crashes on launch with 10.5.2

    Hi
I'm looking for clues here. iDVD has always worked on versions of 10.4. With 10.5.2, it always crashes on launch, and is therefore unusable.
I tried deleting its prefs file, but this makes no difference.
    Any ideas?
    Bruno.

I placed this response on idvd8 and got my hand slapped. Maybe idvd6 will be more generous.
I have burned around 300 dvds using idvd on this iMac. I have upgraded each time upgrades come along. Currently I have osx.4.11 and idvd 6.0.4. I use complicated menus and submenus but just off the idvd shelf. Submenus often are movies. Recently I downloaded the new QT 7.4.1 upgrade and perhaps a recent idvd upgrade to get me to idvd 6.0.4. I burned a few disks okay since.
Mostly I keep my movies on external drives but the dvd projects on the main hard drive. I have plenty of disk space, but I do not know how much contiguous space is on the drive. I have about 3 terrabytes of external drives. They are beginning to fill up. Less than 60 G available on any one of them. This has been my practice for a couple of years.
A few nights ago I began having problems with idvd. It would just quit working. The error screen said restart your computer by pressing the power button. It was the only option. Everything else was froze up. This situation repeated itself numerous times over the past few nights.
Last night I ran disk warrior everywhere and cleaned all the directories. It did not do much good. But I was able to share a 70 minute iMovie program to idvd and get the menus set up to where it did burn a disk. I inserted a second to burn and it did not complete the action. I got the screen that said idvd quit after shutdown. try again. I tried again, but nothing happened.
I do not expect that anyone here can offer me any help. Why should we all be having this problem without Apple putting some brainpower to getting it fixed. I depend on this equipment every week to build programs, and burn them to dvd. It is a miracle that we can do this at all, but since we can, and since apple is the financial beneficiary, I expect that they should get their technical staff on it and make the problem go away. As users, we should not have to try to figure this out. We do not have the keys to the programming.
An hour ago I tried to download a new iTunes upgrade. It started, but I soon got a message that said Something is corrupted in the original material--I suppose what is already on my computer. It would not complete the down load. I think this corruption is some sort of result of the last couple of downloads, QT and iDVD. Do these observations resonate with anyone? mx

  • CS5.5 always crashes after converting a few files

Adobe Media Encoder will always crash after converting a few files, or even before starting to convert.
    I'm on a Windows 7 professional  SP1 (64bit), Intel Xeon w3550 3.07Ghz with an NVidia Quadro FX 3800.
The encoding profile is H264, multiplexing mp4, encoder: Video MainConcept H.264, tv standard: pal, bitrate encoding: cbr, key frames distance 72.
I'm using watch folders, since I have a backup of hundreds of video files stored in folders which have to be restored in the same folders once converted.
This is the crash entry in the event viewer (had to translate it, since it's in italian):
Application name: Adobe Media Encoder.exe, version: 5.5.0.212, timestamp: 0x4d7fcd5f

What is your operating system? Is ID patched to 7.5.2?

  • IMac programs keep crashing.

    Hello,
I really don't know what to do anymore with this.
I bought this mac May 2009.
Since a few months (about 2, shortly after I installed Adobe CS4 I think) random programs have been crashing on my iMac.
It seemed to be just Adobe programs at the beginning, but then I got the same problem with Office programs and even the most random programs start to fail on me.
It doesn't just happen if I'm using a lot of RAM, nope it can also happen when I just started up my computer.
I have no idea where to look for an answer. The question is kinda general but what should I look for?
    - RAM problems?
    - Software problems?
    - Virusses?
Any help would be highly appreciated!

I know this has been a while again so sorry for bumping but I still have the problem.
Programs randomly crash when starting up or shutting them down. Some other things crash such as the problem I stated before (when playing something in iTunes and pressing the "pause button" on my keyboard, RCD will crash).
So right now I've deleted many programs and the problem still occurs.
I don't know what to do anymore... would reinstalling MAC OS fix this problem or what is wrong?
I don't really feel like going to a store with this because first of all I need my computer pretty bad, and second I don't need strangers looking in to all of my files.
Could anybody tell me what to do? Thanks!
