Random reboots without notice

I just bought an Idea Centre Q190.  It came with Windows 8 and I upgraded it to Windows 8.1.  However, the computer now appears to be randomly rebooting without notice -- it has rebooted both in Modern UI and desktop mode, and in administrator account and a local account.  The only thing in common is that the computer was being actively used (someone typing or clicking on a mouse).  I am worried if the computer is overheating -- is that something that could cause this and so I then need to take it in to a service center?   Is there a way to test if overuse causes the reboot?

hi ted1992,
To check if the desktop is overheating, try to monitor your temps using HWMonitor.
Alternatively,  try to:
1. Enable automatic restart on system failure under Windows Startup Settings (check this thread)
2. Check the Event Viewer (press Winkey+R > type eventvwr) and navigate to Custom Views > Administrative Events for error events
- Link to picture
After making the changes above, observe the computer. If you get any errors, try to capture it or post a screenshot here.

  • 3750-24T-L randomly reboots without a cause

We have a WS-C3750X-24T-L switch that has 2 300W power supplies installed that is randomly rebooting its self about once a week. It is connected to a UPS, we have confirmed that the UPS and line power have not been interrupted at any time when the switch restarts. The logs show the switch was: Last reset from power-on. We have flipped the supplies positions in the switch and it still reboots. I have attached the output from running show tech.
Any ideas what may be going on?

    Hi,
First off, I am trying to discard bug CSCtw50892, in which the switch shows "power-on" no matter what the actual cause is.
If there is a crash or anything, this bug does not allow us see the actual last reset reason.
Could you reload the switch via console out of business hours?
    Switch#reload
Proceed with reload? [confirm]  <<< (press enter)
Thereafter, you should see the following when typing "show ver"
Router uptime is 3 days, 18 hours, 39 minutes
    System restarted by [reload cause]
System restarted by reload or system returned to ROM by reload
Let me go through the show tech and get back to you.
    Kind regards,
    - Ed

  • Q10 random reboot without warning

Hello,  A new problem has surfaced with my Q10. The device will restart on its own without any warning. It will restart twice a day on avg.I am running release 10.2.1.2976 and I believe the battery is in pretty good shape since it still holds a charge for the same length of time, as always. Any thoughts? Thanks, Rick

Has anything changed on your device? A new app? A configuration change? Something else? Was the device recently dropped or anything? Anything that happened just before this behavior presented could be causal, so think carefully.
Is there any consistency to how this happens? For example, I noticed with my Q10 that if I set it down on a table in just a same manner (actually gently, but dropping perhaps a centimeter or so), then the device would reboot. I figure there is something loose inside of mine, but haven't done any further diagnostics since it's not my "daily driver".
If you can find something consistent, then you might be able to figure a treatment. For example, if perhaps the battery is just a tiny bit loose inside, and jarring the device causes a reboot, then using something to better secure the battery might be helpful. For instance, a business card, cut to the size of the battery, and wedged between the battery and the device back cover, might help that situation.
Of course, if it's something deeper inside the device, then only a trained hardware technician should open it up to try and figure it out.
Good luck and let us know!

  • HT1386 I have downloaded my cd music from my previous computer to my I Phone.  The phone will randomly play the music without notice, therefore killing my battery.  How can I save this music from my phone to my new computer, and erase it from the phone???

The music that  I downloaded from my previous computer to my I Phone constantly plays without notice.  How can I delete it from my phone after downloading to my new computer?????  I will pick up my phone to make a call, and the music is playing, even tho I didn't tap on the music symbol. Is this a problem with my phone??  Can I successfully download from my phone to my new computer????????  This is a very annoying problem and I need it solved.  My battery is always run down.

If iPhone music is not on iTunes Library, you need a 3rd party tool to help you

  • Yosemite random reboots on macbook mid 2012

Well I've read thoroughly all the posts related to this kind of issue and it seems it affects a wide range of devices. Either mac minis or 2011 macbooks and so on.
I would like to explain my experience and ask for any advice available. I am experienced with computers and OS's, even though I would not call myself an expert, but as an engineer I possess a certain amount of knowledge. So there it goes.
    TL;DR at the bottom
Macbook pro mid 2012 13". Default 4gb memory installed, I added a Samsung EVO 830 SSD in 2012 when I bought it, never had any problems with it.
After a couple of weeks after upgrading to yosemite (november '14) I started noticing the macbook resting on login screen after a reboot. No crash report, no message visible of any reason. As I was installing some special software to do some work related to a lab I was working at the time, I thought it was software related. MS Word and Excel often crashed and I had a couple of problems with other programs. Then it started doing it while I was working, so I decided to check things out. The system freezed for some seconds - 1-2 minutes and proceeded to reboot. Sometimes a hard reset had to be performed.
I decided to perform different installations with different options in order to identify the problem:
Reinstall Yosemite from recovery mode: same result, random reboot, no specific app in use, either Xcode, Safari, or just resting idle with just finder.
Format disk and install yosemite applying time machine backup: same result, random reboot, no specific app, and so on.
Format disk and clean install, manually installing the same main software installed previously: same result, random freezes and reboots.
Format disk and clean install, manually installing essential apps (mac app store only): same result, exactly the same result.
Always with the latest OS version available, and with TRIM enabled and disabled, to discard issues with it. PRAM and SMC resets all along.
During all the testing, the console has not shown any crash report or kernel panic related to the event. After every reboot, console would not show anything special before the boot_time line.
After looking for solutions on different forums, I noticed a pattern on some cases that implied a wake on lan or a handoff, or wifi issue. I tested on different networks, disabled and enabled all options commented, with no effect.
    Entering
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CSeq 'n Cause: -' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}'
on terminal 90% of the time returned errors -128, and some -112 or -2, but they would not be logged to every freeze, just some of them. By the time the
As they may indicate a hardware error, I decided to proceed with the warranty.I bought the Applecare extension when I bought the computer (expiring this summer) so I talked to Applecare about the issue. As there is not an official Apple Store in my town they pointed me to an ASP in my city. They noted all the issues I commented above, gave me a case number to deliver to the ASP so they would have all the information.
I brought the computer to the ASP, gave them the case number (which they totally ignored, the employee seemed oblivious to what a "case number" was) and expected them to find the error. As I noticed the freeze could be sometimes forced via waking up the laptop, I made them a demo. I had ran already the apple hardware test and any hardware tests I was aware of. Etrecheck came out without issues or anything worth mentioning, so I thought they might have specific apple tools to identify hardware error.
They told me they could not find any error on the computer, but that they found errors in the SSD, swapped it with one of theirs to test and no issues found. Good, I thought, at least they found the issue even though all tests run on the SSD by me did not show any trace of it. They charged me 25€ for the service as the SSD was not part of the original computer. As I had been experiencing issues for some time I did not care. I asked them for some kind of report to check the error to provide to the SSD manufacturer, Samsung, as they offer 3-year warranty on SSD's and it had not yet expired. The report said "errors in disk", plain and simple, I asked to talk to the technician for extra info, but he could not remember if it was "corrupted sectors" or something else.
Contacted Samsung, sent my SSD in, and in 4 days I had a new (refurb maybe) SSD same model same size at my door. During those 4 days I reinstalled my old  original HDD. As it had a few miles on it (using it as external disk) it was really slow and sometimes it would freeze but the whole system was always dragging, so it could be also failing. Worth mentioning that when swapping disks I noticed the ASP had messed up the position of the small screws on the back of the computer. They did not seem to know there are 4 shouldered screws and 3 regular ones.
I put the new or refurb SSD in, clean install and do some testings. First day everything ok. Proceed to install software. Seems ok. After a couple of days the first freeze and reboot appears. After a couple of PRAM and SMC zaps, events seem to be reduced to a minimum. Even though the system is not completely stable, and I am not quite satisfied with the uncertainty of the freezes (in the middle of a presentation is not the best moment to have one), as it's freezing 1-3 times per week I consider it reasonable.
Time goes on, freezes start to appear again. Sometimes while booting, sometimes on login screen, sometimes on heavy usage sometimes on idle. I still follow all threads related to similar issues, in case a fix appears. All sleep / wake / wifi on - off on sleep tests have been performed.
Now the issue seems to be reduced to two kind of events: random freezes and reboots, and errors while booting. None, and I mean zero of the reboots or freezes has ever had a .crash or any system diagnostic reports related to the hour or even date when the freezes took place. EVER.
While booting, it crashes and I have to hard reset 2-3 times. When freezing, 30% of the time it does not reboot, and gets warmer than idle state but cooler than under heavy load.
I usually zap pram and smc and then it boots normally. But I should not have to be doing that every time I turn it on.
I know its a long post, but it's something I have been following for 5 months now. It's not that I am unaware of different options to solve it. Zapping seems to be the way to go, but still the random freezes interrupt workflow and provoke loss of data.
TL;DR: same freeze and reboots as other people. No discrete GPU to relate it to. Default memory installed, SSD model working on 10.8 and 10.9 with zero issues. All software installation combinations tested. ZERO crash reports on console related to the hour or date of the events. Shutdown causes negative codes, ASP cannot find the issue.
Considering bringing it to Genius Bar, but undermines the purpose of a ASP and if they got the same tools they will not find the issue either.
Appelcare expires in June. Any options I am unaware of? I would relate it to the specific model of SSD under Yosemite if I was the only one experiencing freezes and reboots, which I am not.
    Thanks you

Boot into Safe Mode. If the problem ceases then you need to remove Virtual Box and the software that installed com.bluecoat.kext.bckd 4.4.1f20. If this does not fix the problem then make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • Z10 Random reboot a possible cause.

I also am having that seemingly random rebooting; till a pattern emerged.  With out my clip-on case and with the portable one that forms into a stand I noticed that every type the phone hit something hard on the back panel it reset.  Without the case, I started tapping with a small hard object and whenever I hit where under the battery is located, the phone rebooted every time. Replaced the battery, and so far, the problem has gone away. Could be because it is a new battery (connector do not the play that a battery that has been inserted many times has) or because it is a different battery or some other reason but whatever, the battery seems to be a part or all of the problem.
    Running OS 10.1.0.4181
    STL 100-3

That's been reported over on the Crackberry site also. It appears that some batteries and/or devices don't fit well together. Simply placing some folded paper or something similar, under the battery to keep it pushed snug up against the contacts fixed the problem for some people.
I was lucky, I guess, just had a few reboots (AT&T) and since the 10.1 update 3 weeks or more ago, I've had no problems at all with reboots.

  • Random rebooting iMac

1.3 days apart (this time), my iMac is randomly rebooting. I've never been the best at reading this output from the crash. Would someone steer me in the right direction? It is beginning to happen more frequently. Also noticing increased lag/response times in all programs. Thanks!

Your problem is you are using com.intego.iokit.VirusBarrierX6Service          10.6.18, uninstall the antivirus app using the developers instructions and your problem should be resolved. OS X  is not MS Windows and does not require antivirus software. The best security you can provide is to keep your software up-to-date by running Software Update regularly.

  • My Incredible randomly reboots since update to 4.08

Two days ago 11/17/11  I noticed that my Incredible was rebooting. I know that it happened over six times that day once while I was holding it. It could have happened a lot more since I work construction and run heavy equipment and usually don't even hear or feel it ringing. Then yesterday 11/18/11  it went all day without rebooting. Today 11/19/11  as I am watching football with my Incredible on the table beside me it rebooted twice and shut off without restarting once.
I did have this issue about eight months ago but I was in bad signal area and it only happened on that jobsite so I chalked it up to a signal issue and went on.
This time I am at home and I have always had excellent signal here and the jobsite I was on I have been there for a couple weeks and have not had any problems until after the update.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Any Help would be Greatly Appreciated.

I hate to read you are having these erratic behaviors with your Incredible.
Prior to the phone beginning these random reboots, did you install any new apps?
You can first put the phone in safe mode.
Does it still reboot in safe mode? If so, then there is an app on there that needs to be removed.
Otherwise, when all else fails, the best remedy is a factory reset upon installation of software updates.
Performing a hard reset will remove ALL data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications. Only perform this reset if absolutely necessary.

  • Early 2011 MBP 13 random reboots (no Kernel Panic logged)

    Hi,
    Problem Description:
My MacBook Pro randomly reboots at least 1-2 times a day. I cannot find a kernel log because each restart is a double one.
Let me explain the problem further : 1. Im doing something (nothing specific..no specific app) on the mac 2. The screen freezes and becomes unresponsive ( I know a reboot is coming)
    3. I get the gray screen which says "Your computer restarted because of a problem..." ...this is followed by the white screen with the apple sign..it loads for a few seconds and it reboots AGAIN..this time i hear the chime...loads into the OS normally ...works until i either shut it down / put it to sleep / another random restart (varies from 1 hour to 6 hours )
    Things I've tried :
    SMC / PRAM reset
    Erase Drive and TimeMachine Restore
Apple Hardware Tests / Diagnostics all pass
Verify / Repair permissions / disk (did this a million times)
    Reindexed Spotlight
Erased Drive and did a clean install and MIGRATED files from TimeMachine
Safe Mode ( THIS did not have random reboots...also fyi ..i didn't try this for long)
    Logs Data:
Since I don't have the .panic files. I am pasting a chunk of the log before and after the PROBLEM.

MacBook Pro 13 (MBP 8,1 random restarts)

  • List of issues: random reboots, sound issue, battery reading

    Hey all,
I am having the following issues with my Macbook (late 2007, running on Snow Leopard).
    1) The battery power indicator isn't giving a correct read. It remains stuck at 95% or 99% most of the time while the led on the battery cord is burning bright green for hours...
When I asked my local reseller if this could be related to my new bought battery, he checked the battery (which is under warranty) and informed that the battery was ok so he feared it would a more expensive issue inside my Macbook.
2)When I turn on my Macbook, the sound isn't working althought the soundbar is more then halfway open. When I increase or decrease the sound with one tap, it suddenly kicks in and works fine untill I turn the device off and o. Then it's the same old story all over again.
    3) My Macbook randomly reboots. Without any warning (atleast not visible to me) you suddenly the distinct hardware sound of a reboot, the grey load screen with the Apple logo appears and only a few seconds latter (it's much faster then a normal reboot/restart) I am at the inlog screen and have to log in again.
I am not sure but, it's possible that issue 2 & 3 showed up after I installed Snow Leopard. Don't know if it's relevant or not.
I am praying for this to be a software related issue, but I have a nasty gutt feeling that is going to be a nasty hardware issues
Any thoughts, idea's or wonder solutions?

I'll reply using the numbers aswell:
    1) But is it also normal for the Macbook to keep saying that the (3months old battery) is at 99% even when it has been fully loaded in advance and has been connected for 12 hours to the powergrid?
    2) I'll try to clearify:
You turn on the Macbook, according to the settings the sound is on yet programs like Adium and Mail don't produce sounds when it should be making a sound warning.
When you use the sound keys (either to increase or decrease the sound), the sound kicks in again.
Each time the device is turned back on this issue presents itself.
The device also doesn't seem to save the sound setting on which it is turned off, it simply resets to a setting at about 75 % of the volumebar.
3)I have been thinking that myself and have been expermenting with using the visitors account from time to time. However the reboots have been rare up till know (only 3 , max 4 times as far as I am aware) and only once (last night) when I was actually activly using the device.
This makes it rather annoying to downgrade or to switch main accounts permenantly for diagnostic purposes only. (I am not that familar with mac os to start doing this like downgrades at all to be honest)
Of the reboots I am 99.9% sure that they started after my upgrade to Snow Leopard.

I'm using Lenovo ThinkPad T440p with build-in Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 and it's unusable on 5GHz band using Mixed mode. I've setup to N-Only but it doesn't help, router reboots randomly while i'm surffing web.
Now i'm only using 2.4GHz band so router doesn't reboot at random.
Linksys please fix this issues!!!! this shouldn't happen on 300$ router!!!!

    Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.
I've been using Mixed Mode on 5Ghz with my router and haven't had any issues. Possible envrionment or configuration issue or incompatibility issue with the ThinkPad....Please give feedback on question presented...lets see if we can find the problem.

my iPhone 4 randomly reboot..even after i reset it to factory setting, it still happen...can u help me??

As far as I know you can't delete the primary email address for an iCloud account.  It's assigned when the account is created.  But your neighbor wouldn't have been able to get into your iCloud account without your Apple ID and password.  Are you sure the account wasn't still on your phone when you gave it to him?
You could migrate a copy of your data to a new iCloud account but I would still be concerned that someone else was using my old account, which presumably still has your data in it.
I'm fairly certain that you're going to have to have iCloud support help you sort this one out as they may have the ability to make changes to an existing account that users can't.  Make an appointment with the genius bar at a nearby Apple store and have them take a look at it.  If necessary, they should be able to contact iCloud support for you.

  • Random numbers without duplicates

    Hello,
I'm having trouble locating an explained example for selecting a set of random numbers without duplicates. Specifically, I'm working on this example from Ivor Horton's Beginning Java, chapter 3.
    3. A lottery program requires that you select six different numbers from the integers 1-49. Write a program to do this for you and generate five sets of entries.
This is not homework, I'm just trying to teach myself Java to eventually work my way up to servlets and JSPs.
This is what I have so far. I tried to use array sorting but it didn't work (the first three numbers in my entries was always 0), so I commented out that part. I've included sample output after the code. I don't necessarily need the exact code although that would be nice; I just need at least an explanation of how to go about making sure that if a number has been picked for an entry, not to pick it again.
    Thanks for any help,

different numbers from the integers 1-49. Write a
program to do this for you and generate five sets of
    entries.
This is not homework, I'm just trying to teach myself
Java to eventually work my way up to servlets and
    JSPs.
This is what I have so far. I tried to use array
sorting but it didn't work (the first three numbers in
my entries was always 0), so I commented out that
part. I've included sample output after the code. I
don't necessarily need the exact code although that
would be nice; I just need at least an explanation of
how to go about making sure that if a number has been
picked for an entry, not to pick it again.
    Thanks for any help,

  • Kernel-Power Event ID 41: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Hello,  Currently we are seeing this issue with a couple of our Lenovo T420s laptops with a Solid State Drive.  ruffly about 10 or so.  The Reboots happen randomly and do not create a dump file.  We have contacted Lenovo and they are
not sure why its happening.  Since this Crash I set it for Minidump this did not work my next steps will be to Disable Automatic restart on System Failure to see if it brings anything up.  I am also looking at using Procmon to dump to a file as well.
If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

    Thank you.

We have tested and checked both the Bios and firmware of the SSD Drive's
Bios was up to date and no issue
Firmware was also up to date as well.
Users are still experiencing random Reboots.   I tried to capture the issue with Procmon but since the PC shutdown (Goes to a black screen no power at all even when turning the "Automatically
restart" off under Startup and Recovery) No dmp files as of yet.  Unable to configure Procdump due to not knowing where the issue is and what is causing it to happen.
Going to replace one of the PC's with a New one with different hardware to see if this resolve the issue.  If anyone has any idea's to be able to capture what maybe happening that would
    be great.
    Thank you.

  • Random reboots with 975x Platinum v2.1?

As the title says, I have the MSI 975x Platinum v2.1. The system randomly reboots fairly, often, and I'm not sure what could be causing it.
I had this setup for a few weeks, before it locked up overnight and destroyed my memory. Board would halt on the memory initialization during POST, so I sent it back for RMA and now have the replacement. While waiting for the RMA, I bought some memory from a local retailer so I would have something to use. The system would randomly reboot, sometimes in Windows, sometimes while browsing the BIOS menus. I figured the motherboard was damaged too and I sent it back to the retailer for a RMA replacement. I now have the LE version of the board. I also bought a new power supply because I now thought it fried my stuff. Everything put back together, I'm still having random reboots. Here's the system specs:
    # Intel Core 2 EE x6800
    # MSI 975x Platinum v2.1 LE (BIOS 7.4 official)
    # mushkin REDLINE 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000
    # BFG Tech BFGR79256GTOCE GeForce 7900GT 256MB GDDR3
    # 1x NEC IDE DVDR, 1x Seagate 200GiB IDE, 1x Seagate 80GiB SATA2, 1x Seagate 400GiB SATA1, 1x Seagate 500GiB SATA2
    # Windows XP Pro SP2
    # Tagan TG-480-U22 ATX 480W, then mushkin HP-580AP ATX12V / EPS12V 580W
Currently, the system can play games for a couple hours with dnetc running in the background. Yet when I leave it running a torrent (or whatever) overnight, I'll wake up and find it rebooted (after like 6 hours of uptime).  I've also gotten it to reboot while just browsing web pages for a few minutes. The northbridge heatsink/heatpipe does get pretty hot, and my room does get warm, so I'll try adding a spare fan tonight. Though, I find this unlikely as the system should be working fine at stock speeds/voltages. Other than that, anyone have any suggestions?

I was actually using the Tagan in combined mode until I started having problems (ie, when the RAM died). By then, neither combined nor split appeared to have any helpful effect. I do not know if the Tagan was the cause of my problems, or if this is all something (???) else. I suppose I could try it again, but I'd rather not break my newly RMA'ed stuff. The mushkin power supply has 4x 20a 12v rails, but it appears to automatically determine whether they should be combined or split.
Speaking of the 12v rails. I noticed that the BIOS reports varying values for the 12v. I've seen it at 12.3v, 13.0v, 13.7v, and 14.0v. However, the dualcorecenter software in Windows always reports 12.2v - 12.3v. I have no idea which is accurate.
