Random red pixels on my macbook display

i've had this macbook for 3 days, and as soon as i started using it, red flickering pixels appeared.
there not stuck on the screen, just over some dark colours, so you can scroll and they move with the image.
I am worried i might have to send it back,
anyone know if and how i can fix this?

i'm having the same problem. except mine is almost two years old now. It's especially noticeable on text.
my dots vary in colour - black and white mainly.

there's this red pixel the shows up when i'm using chrome or safari (haven't tried other browsers yet). the pixel only turns red when the browser window crosses a certian point on the screen. the pixel also shows up when i open up any program. with certian ones open, the pixel is dimmer and will get brighter depending on the location of the window. i hope this isn't an issure with the screen. i've only had this computer for about 5 days. not sure if this helps but, the location of the red pixel is 875 px from the left and 271 px from the top. thank you so much for you're help! wish i could explain it more clearly lol
i just tried snaping a screen shot for you to see but, the pixel wont show up in the picture. that makes me think it's not a dead/dying pixel. I could be wrong.
    here's my computer specss:

  • 22 in display red pixel flickering

I have an older second hand 22 in cinema display connected to my 1.25 ghz powerbook. it uses an older round adc/dvi adapter. anyone know why or how to solve constant red pixels/lines flickering horizontally on black backgrounds?

    Hi Byron,
If the normal display on your powerbook is OK, then it won't be the graphics card.
If you can, try hooking the ADC display to another computer (preferably one with an ADC port). If the display functions OK, then the problem is not within the display.
That leaves the adaptor and the connections between the powerbook and the display.
You need to check that all physical connections are clean, intact and tight. Check for loose wire connections by gently wiggling the cables where they insert into plugs (if it's loose, you will see changes in the display).
Check that there is no play in the DVI output on the powerbook - plugs can exert a lot of leverage on this socket, and it is possible that there is physical damage.
Depending on what you find, you may be able to sort this out yourself. However, a lot of these plugs are not user serviceable, and the Powerbook DVI output certainly isn't.
    Cheers!

  • 5800 XpressMusic - Red Pixel in Display

    Hello there!
Well guys, I'm really sad with what happened. I bought my 5800 2 days ago and now I realised that there is a Red pixel (It's really the size of 1 pixel) in a part of my screen. It stays there. When I use the camera, the red pixel stay there too! I tried to format, hard reset, soft reset, everything, but nothing fixed the problem. I'm going crazy!
What am I suposed to do? Anybody have a tip?
    Thx a lot!

Well, they are generically called "dead pixels" but "dead" can mean "stuck" or "off".
When stuck, it can be stuck in any one of the primary colors which is more often the case than being totally dead.
It's considered "dead" because it does not respond to control.

  • Flashy red pixels

    Hello,
I'm having a really weird problem. I was working on my macbook pro 15 inch, late 2008, and I went to eat. When I came back, it was on sleep mode. I turned it on, and then, there was alot of Flashy Red Pixels but only on Dark aera on the macbook display!
It seems that all the Black pixels were replaced by flashy red pixels!
I re-started the computer, and you know at the beginning, just before the apple with the grey background, my screen flashed in red!
After I Closed my screen, and just hit the computer once ( lol I know, but it was my last resort ) and my problem is fixed! No more red pixels....
But I am scared that it will happen again...
Did this hapened to anyone of you? What can you suggest me?
    Thank you!
    Marco

What's odd is that I'm having the same problem on my Macbook Pro 2.33 that started around the same time this message was posted. I've turned off all my unnecessary start up files, but no help. The Red pixels get worse as the machine heats up.
My motherboard went bad in the first 3 months of having the computer (circa 2007). They replaced it for free (warranty), and the only thing I've done since then is upgrade the HD and replace the left fan that went bad.
I've taken the machine apart and tested all the connections. Nothing helped. There are a couple threads out there for this problem with no real suggestions in sight.
I can't remember when 10.6.2 released. The monitor is off from the very start, so it would have to have been firmware if it's not hardware. The left edge of the screen has an indented reddish pixel running down the side. Extreme blacks are red.
It really makes using the computer impossible being an artist.

  • Line of red pixels

I got a MacBook Pro 15" less than a month ago and today a streak of red pixels appeared in the middle of the screen. Anyone else has had this problem on the new Mac? I have an appointment for next Monday at the Genius Bar, I would like to have some feedback, perhaps is a defectous line of screens?
    Cheers
    PS

I sent it in for repair once already. I don't remember what they did; something with software. Nothing huge, because when I got it back my invisibleSHIELD case was still completely intact. I guess I should just send it in again? Think they'll just give me a new one?

  • T510 Random Stuck Pixels?

I received my T510 FHD Thinkpad about a month ago and over the last few days it started to display random stuck pixels (always on - white).  I say random because they eventually go away when I open and close windows or reboot the computer.  Mysteriously reappearing later at random (not in the same spots if I recall correctly)???
After doing some internet research, I ran JScreenFix (http://www.jscreenfix.com/) for about an hour on full screen.  The problem persists.
My son suggested this could be a driver issue (supported by the fact that the pixel becomes "unstuck" when shutting down Windows XP and doesn't appear until Windows finishes booting up).  I am using the most recent Nvidia drivers so I'm hoping this is not isolated.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciate.
    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Update
This is apparently an issue exclusive to Windows XP.  I used a separate HD and installed Windows 7 - no temporarily stuck pixels.
Have to assume this is a driver issue.  Hopefully, Lenovo/Nvidia will release a fix soon.
Any other ideas/fixes would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Stray, random inappropriate pixels appear in images; no such problem in Int Explorer

Viewing images in, for example, Flickr photo streams, stray, random inappropriate pixels appear in images. Reload, the pixels change locations, usually close to the original misbegotten pixels' location. Sometimes multiple patches of wrongly displayed pixels, sometimes a single patch. No such anomaly appears under the same circumstances in Internet Explorer.

Thank you for your response. I'm not a person who can control much beyond the on-off switch on the computer. I'm pretty certain it's not a matter of physical heat. I have never seen the stray pixels in Photo Shop, which sometimes works the card pretty hard, I think. It's just viewers inside browsers and in the computer, Windows' native image viewer. Thanks again.

  • Disturbing red pixel mosaic in dark areas.

In PowerMac G4 MDD with ATI radeon 9800, the LCD display shows red or blue pixels in a places which should be dark.
If there should be black in the video, in the screen, there is some kind of cubical fractal pattern of red pixels in opacity of 15 %.
    Like this:
    http://koti.welho.com/tsuonio1/LCD-DISPLAY-PROBLM.jpg
When the same displays is connected to old B&W G3 black shows out black, and if the display is connected to be a PowerBooks external display, the image is fine.
So my suppose is that the problem is in graphic card...
...any idea what might be the problem and how to fix it?

I have very similar issues with red and green pixels, dots and lines that seem to halo any change from light to darker areas of the screen, often fringing those gradations. It is especially bad in any movie that I play. I have a PMG4 dual 1.25Ghz with an upgraded ati radeon 9600 pc & mac edition card running a dell 30" lcd. I've done all the usual suggested, but I am seeing this online as a widespread ati/30" phenomenon as well on ACD 30" and Dells both. About every report I've seen about this is about an ATI card. The only "cure" is to reduce colors to thousands which I don't like and won't allow me to run iPhoto slideshows etc.
I hope someone has an answer, I have a few days before returning these two items and coming up with a new solution.

  • Is MacBook display HD capable?

    Hi,
I just wanted to know if the screen or display of MacBook is capable of displaying HD content? And if it is, which format: 480p, 720p, or 1080p?
    Thanks.

The MacBook tech specs are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/macbook/specs.html
    "Supported resolutions: 1280 by 800 (native), 1152 by 720, 1024 by 768, 1024 by 640, 800 by 600, 800 by 500, 720 by 480, and 640 by 480 pixels at 16:10 aspect ratio; 1024 by 768, 800 by 600, and 640 by 480 pixels at 4:3 aspect ratio; 720 by 480 pixels at 3:2 aspect ratio
Extended desktop and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 1920 by 1200 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors"
The HD numbers refer to the vertical resolution required.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1080p
    480p is not considered HD.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/480p
I am not sure if the built-in optical drive can read BlueRay/HD DVD media, although you can buy/rent/download HD content from the internet, or maybe use an external USB/FW BlueRay/HD optical drive, not really sure, there's another thread about that here:

  • Turquoise and Red Pixel streaks while browsing

I'm hoping someone can help me with this (thanks X 1000 if you can!)
I've had my Macbook for a little over a year NEVER dropped, always handled with the utmost care.
Recently noticed blotches of red pixel on my desk top (with a dark screen saver) when I browse the internet with a mostly white page I see blotches of turquoise pixels. (THE RED AND TURQUOISE BLOTCHES STREAK WHEN I SCROLL, OR CLICK THE WINDOW AND DRAG IT AROUND THE SCREEN)
I've THOROUGHLY tried to research this on my own - THIS IS NOT A DEAD PIXEL ISSUE -DEAD PIXELS DONT MOVE!!!
It almost seems like a refresh issue, because if I scroll down further, or (click-drag) highlight the effected area it goes away until I scroll again.
    * I ran a hardware check (reboot, and hold down D') and it came back clean...
I'm at wits end and when this laptop was purchased it was close to 3 grand! I dont want to shell out another cent until I know (or at least have a pretty good idea what the issue is)
    MAC GODS PLEASE HELP!!!
    Message was edited by: CHMM

NO ONE has any real suggestions to what this could be?? I thought mac users helped each other....
Unfortunately, we aren't magicians. We can only make suggestions based on our personal experience.
For the record, I said: It sounds like your video card is having problems with the RED channel.

  • Bright(dead pixels) replacement policy macbook pro retina

Yes i have had it tested and it is a confirmed hardware related pixel problem. I have 4 bright green pixels on my macbook pro retina 15 inch which is very annoying when you are working in (the dead pixels are in the middle of the screen!)processing applications like the kinect/photoshop. And this meets apples policy critera and according to it i should receive a product replacemnet not a simple screen replacement( the product is the macbook pro not the screen) and the apple stores in india say that they do not follow this policy, no where on the internet or anywhere have i heard this. Apple is renowned for its worldwide support, but it from one place and have similar support everywhere. I bought the laptop(the highest end with 16 gb ram for my projects, 2.7) whoch costed me about 4000 US dollars now when you pay that much you cannot live with people opening your laptop and replacing some parts in it(remember the unibody part?). And i am also experienceing burn in issues for a long time( due to the inferior screen that i was provided with- yes the LG display). I am really annoyed and will take the laptop to honk kong where i bought it from and will not settle without a product replacemnet per se apples policy. Again india seriously??

  • Is there a dark-red pixel in the middle of my ipad 2 screen, Apple Staff ignored it with rude manner.

Is there a dark-red pixel in the middle of my ipad 2 screen, I 've just it for 6 days. After that I went the store (Thailand) to turn it, they told me that it's a dead pixel and Apple won't replace it to the new one - there must be more than 3 to claim.  How can I do?
The store guy told me I should go Apple Service Center. The Center's staff kept my ipad and told that replacement depends on Regional office at Singapore.
She also blame me that "Why don't you look for dead pixel before you brought?"
What !!! Dead Pixel is the fault of Apple Factory, but she said like I'm so stupid to brought a dead-pixel ipad.
"If you want me to do something on your case call to Singapore by yourself" she said.
After I called to Singapore, I found myself the staff there treated me so bad and confuse.
    1. The first guy at Singapore said  "Because you 've just brought it for 6 week you can choose between replacement or refund, but leave me your numbers we will call you back."
    2. Shortly, a rude guy called me - said to me about Bright and Dead Pixel - then said "It's not our authority to replace ipad for you, you paid your money for our dealer (Store in Thailand), so you must ask for resposibility from them. "
What !!!!! He treated me like I'm not a customer. Store and Care Center in Thailand told me it ups to Singapore, but Singapore told me not.
Who lied? However, I'm still Apple Customer. Whatever country I brought it, I paid for Apple product. Where are thier responsibilities?
I hope, Apple U.S. is my last resort.

Given that you can return/exchange it for any reason within the 14-day window after you bought it, you shouldn't have any problems.
Do you live near an Apple retail store? That may be your best bet. It certainly worked for me: I ordered mine online and when I noticed an air bubble embedded in the glass, I brought it to my local Apple Store and 15 minutes later walked out with a replacement. No fuss whatsoever.
