Random Restarts Only During Games

Greetings Community,
I have been racking my brain these past 2 weeks in regards to my computer (which is running Windows 7) and the fact that it is randomly restarting while playing Star Wars: The Old Republic.
I checked my event viewer and it was giving me the Kernel 41 which I know is restart due to a BSOD.  I could not find my log file since I had it set up to restart and dump the error to file.  I have since turned that off so that if it happens again,
I can see the stop error.
But, first, let me tell you what I have done.  I have used the windows memory check to check the memory.  In addition to that I have used memtest and went through a 6 hour memory test.  Both passed.  I then used seatools to check the
hard drive...that checked out fine as well.  I then reformatted my hard drive and did a clean install after backing up all my information.  I installed all the updates, played the game, it was fine.  I updated my computer again with the latest
security updates and then it started again.  So, through process of elimination, I am assuming it is the security updates that is causing it to BSOD since it started happening after I got the updates before the reformat.  I have also checked my BIOS
to check on CPU temperatures and got only 37-39 degrees Celcius immediately after a crash.
But, there is also another issue that is going on as well.  Upon startup, I keep getting the sound as if something is being plugged into a USB port and I checked the event viewer and I see I keep getting a "bonjour service" error.  The
thing about that is, outside of just my keyboard and mouse, I have not had anything plugged into the USB ports outside of my external hard drive (which was only plugged in once to get the information I had backed up) and the USB drive to run memtest for the
above mentioned issue.
Is there anything I am missing or should I just reformat once again and start from scratch and watch which updates I am applying.

As Thomas says there is no DMP file in the collected items.  That may be for several reasons including using Ccleaner type apps.  YOu may also not have DMP files enabled in control panel.
Here are the instructions on how to configure the computer, find the files, and upload them to us
We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
WE NEED AT LEAST TWO DMP FILES TO SPOT TRENDS AND CONFIRM THE DIAGNOSIS.
Please follow our instructions for finding and uploading the files we need to help you fix your computer. They can be found here
If you have any questions about the procedure please ask
In Addition please upload your event viewer logs to us
Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:
Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
Expand Custom Views
Click Administrative Events
Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Right click Errors.evtx -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file to skydrive or a file sharing service and put a link to it in your next post
If you have updated to win 8.1 and you get the error message "the system cannot find the file specified" it is a known problem.  The
work around is to edit the registry.  If you are not comfortable doing this DONT.  If you are, backup the key before you do
Press Win+"R" and input regedit
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WINEVT\Channels. Delete "Microsoft-Windows-DxpTaskRingtone/Analytic"

  • PC suddenly restarts while playing games MSI 660Ti Power Edition OC 2GB

    Hi,
I have the following problem since I replaced my graphics card (before 9800GTX+, now MSI 660Ti Power Edition 2GB) I got 3 random restarts while playing games. The computer is not overheating, the CPU's temperature is around 58-59 degrees after running prime95 for 3 hours. The graphics card temperature is 70 degrees after running furmark for 1 hour, the stress tests never failed, just when running games. The computer has been stable. For case cooling im using (2X12cm front, rear 1X14cm below 1X12cm and above 1X12cm +1 X14cm).
I got two random system restarts while playing Doom 3 BFG and one system restart after playing Wolfenstein for 4 hours. The PC just restarts itself.
What could be wrong? I have no more ideas? Should I replace the CPU cooler (im running the stock CPU cooler but all stress tests dont show overheating?!)
Is it possible that the PSU is the reason, but it should be strong enough ...
    The system:
    GA 870A-UD3
AMD Phenom II 1090T (cooler box)
MSI GeForce 660Ti Power Edition OC 2GB
    12GB RAM (12GB Kit 3X4GB DDR3 Kingston Genesis 1600)
    Samsung 256GB 840pro
    WD Blue 500GB
    Thermaltake Thoughpower Q-Fan 750W PSU
    Housing NZXT Source 210 Elite
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
    Thank you.

The temps for the graphics card are quite normal. I have the same one and under load it will go to 70 to 75C, depending on ambient. What Nvidia driver are you using? Did you do a new driver installation?
If I look at your CPU though, then you are very close to the max CPU temp and throttling may invoke the shutdown    http://products.amd.com/en-us/DesktopCPUDetail.aspx?id=640&f1=&f2=&f3=&f4=&f5=&f6=&f7=&f8=&f9=&f10=&f11=&f12=
    62C is max.
Could also be your PSU that's not completely stable and continuous power draw may cause Overcurrent or overtemp protection. Speculating here as to probable causes.
Another possibility is your RAM. That should normally be paired in 2's. Have you tested with only 2 modules ? Remember we don't support that MB here, but its just another test I would run. But you would know, probably having run it like that with the previous GPU.

  • Completely random restarts (windows + linux)

    Hey,
I put together a system (see sig) for a friend, anyway they started complaining about random restarts using winxp (with or without either service pack). Cutting a long story short, we RMA'd the motherboard, got a replacement, and the problem persisted.
Basically this is a list of things that has been observed to happen
    1) Randomly reboots during winxp install (not connected to the internet, harddrive virus free did a complete scan and alternated b/n linux / windows installs, ie filesystem changed -> no virus)
    2) Reboots under windows randomly, can be when surfing the net, ripping cds (this is the best test to make it happen), or just sitting idle (went to get a drink and it had done it). I tried to disable the "Automatic restart on fatal error" in the advanced settings thing, that did nothing, so im fairly certain that its a hardware issue after that.
    3) Reboots during Gentoo Install (I figured I should stress test it), the reboots occur at different places depending on the settings changed, and detailed below, but inevitably it always reboots.
    4) Occasionally winxp will fail to load, or givea a BSOD before rebooting, but this has happened maybe 5 times in hundreds of random restarts, the error messages are not in reference to anything in particular, nor could I garuntee the ability to get a copy of one to show you.
I spent most of yesterday digging around these forums reading suggestions etc...
The following is a list (i took notes) of what I have tried (this is long I know, im sorry)
    1) Different PSU
Originally the PSU was the stock standard that came with the sonata http://www.antec.com/specs/true380_spe.html which at 380W seemed a little low (this was before reading forum posts), so replaced it with the one in the sig -- Not a PSU problem.
    2) Different RAM
Figured since a second replacement board had the same problem it could be the RAM, tried RAM from my machine which I know is working perfectly, reboot as normal. Hmm so I did a memtest86 scan on the memory left it running 48hrs, that lets memtest86 loop about 7 times (for anyone interested) there was not a single error. -- Not a RAM defect.
    Started reading forums here
    3) Different Harddrive / Optical Drive
Tried a 120G sata maxtor drive (which I know works), reboots persisted.
Tried a DVD-ROM, from my machine, reboots persisted.
    4) Measured the voltage with multimeter, all voltages were within 1% of the spec.
    5) Put some thermal (arctic silver 5) compound on the cpu / heatsink, but the temperature under stress test never goes above 51 degrees anyway. Not at all out side the operational conditions for a P4 3.0.
    6) Ram Timings / placement
If I leave as SPD, reboots occur more quickly, setting timings to 2.5-3-3-7 burst 8 gives me longer until the reboot occurs, however it still eventually occurs. I have tried running the ram in single channel mode (with both sticks in the same channel), dual channel mode 1 3 and 2 4 have been tested, and by only having one stick in at a time (
    7) Ram voltage
I kept alternating b/n SPD and the above timings as I moved the RAM voltage 2.60 - 2.65 - 2.70 - 2.75 (I haven't gone any higher yet as thats the red zone, ie 2.80), the best times I experienced for a gentoo install were with 2.70 / 2.75 however after 20 to 25 minutes of compiling the machine restarts. I couldnt get the machine to restart ripping cds on this setting, but thats probably because I lost interest in ripping over and over again after the 5th time, I did get to 10th rip once, only to have it restart.
    8) Clock Frequencies
Tried setting FSB to 201 (as some threads recommend), didnt help. Tried setting RAM speed at 266, 333, 400, and auto, the lower the speed the longer until a reboot, but only a minute or two is gained by 266 over 400. All this is done on the NORMAL (meaning SLOW on older boards) setting.
    10) Video card
Originally there was just some old PCI card I had laying around in the machine (lack of money), however now (see sig), either way reboots occured, the video card was my 3rd suspect, motherboard, ram, video, psu, .... etc...
    Thats it.
Now, I saw some people commenting (when I was reading the threads) that they wondered if this batch of boards was bodgey, no one seemed to want to agree, however after trying suggestions from over 100 threads (do a search for random reboot if you dont believe me) and not actually getting any success, and having had this happen over TWO of the SAME board, im really beginning to think that is the case. Some of the search results were PSU based, granted, so lets knock off 50% that leaves about 50 cases of this incident which haven't actually been resolved.
Im not playing blame game, it just seems very likely to me, but if someone gives me a solution that works, ill appologise profusely, and go and buy the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum that ive been wanting -- but to scared from this situation, to actually buy.
This problem is remarkably similar to Random PC reboot this, except im not able to actually produce the windows errors as noted at the top.
    So... Please HELP !!!!!

1st of all, kudos to you mate, now this is the proper way to ask for help!
but looks like you've tried everything other than hitting it with great force with a piece of 4 by2.
only thing i can ask is if you've tried increasing the vAGP in bios, this doesnt really increase the voltage to your agp (well, it does) but more to the point, it increases the voltage to the motherboard chipset. you've mentioned that youve put as5 on the cpu, it might be worth trying a clean and application under the northbridge too (though they do coat it with some cr@p so much its a bit of work sometimes getting it all off)..
another thing, though this shouldnt help, is to try increasing the vCore to the cpu just a tad, most intel boards' voltages vary a fair bit, some say its due to a special functionalities withing the processor itself, but most say that this hasnt been implemented.
other than that, best of luck to ya
p.s. or you could go get a cheap 865 board as a replacement, i wouldnt upgrade to a64 yet with nforce4 (nvidia) + xpress200 (ati) mobos just around the corner as well as 90nm a64 processors with sse3 instuctions too

  • Random restarts or freezes? DISABLE C-STATES IN BIOS!!!

I would like to offer my advise to any of you experiencing random restarts or freezes with their rig.
I’ve recently got myself a new rig (RAM and graphics are from my old rig):
    Corsair VS550 PSU (550W)
    MSI Z77A-GA43 motherboard
    i5-3470 CPU
    4 x 4 GB Corsair 1333 Value RAM
    MSI 6850 Cyclone VGA
After first assembly and fresh system install I’ve started experiencing random restarts, but ONLY when the computer was idle or under light load, like WWW browsing or writing in Word – it never happened in games or Prime95. Sometimes the restarts would occur every hour, sometimes every couple of days. Suddenly the screen would simply turn black, then there was a pause of 2-3 seconds, and then the system would start normally with the usual "Windows was not closed correctly" screen.
This drove me crazy. Since I still had my old rig available (and a few spare parts, like an older VGA and RAM), I was able to exchange every component (PSU, motherboard, CPU, RAM and VGA) to rule out any hardware problems, but the problem would persist except when I switched the motherboard – then it was fine, no restarts. So the culprit was undoubtedly the new motherboard.
Then I started looking for other users on the net with a similar problem and found a very large number of such postings, one of which brought the solution!
It turns out that the problem is not restricted to any particular motherboard model or even brand, but is more universal. Damn you Microsoft! They wrongly implemented the C-STATES support in their Windows 7 and 8 OS. So when the CPU lowers its clock or parts of it are sent to sleep when in idle or under light load, under some unknown conditions (not all users have this problem obviously) Windows wrongly interprets such a state, and as a result a reset of freeze occurs. In my old motherboard, C-STATES were turned off by default, so I've never experienced that problem before.
So the solution is very simple: turn off all C-STATES in BIOS (in Z77A-GA43, they are under Overclocking -> CPU features -> C1E Support & Intel C-State), but leave EIST (Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology) on so that the CPU can downclock to 1600 MHz and lower its voltage during light load.
The result: the problem immediately disappeared and hasn’t occurred again for weeks now. For testing purposes, I switched the C-STATES on again and the computer restarted itself after 1,5h in idle. Bingo!
So thanks Microsoft for your wonderful operating system!
Maybe MSI could consider switching C-STATES off in BIOS by default until Microsoft comes up with a fix? Wouldn't that reduce user frustration and the number of unnecessary RMAs?

You can probably enable C1E and not have the problem return. All my boards have C-State disabled. EIST and C1E seem to work well together.

  • MSI Neo2 K8N Platinum - Freezing Issue during games

First off greetings to everyone on these forums...
I purchased the MSI Neo2 K8N Platinum motherboard from NewEgg back at the end of March to compliment the AMD 64 "Winchester" processor that I also purchased at that time to replace a slightly older AMD XP "Barton" system that was using the Abit NF7-S motherboard. For the past month I have been fighting an unusual and highly irritating issue that I have noticed during game play and have tried everything that I know of and more in an attempt to remedy this issue, but to no avail. This is the general background of the situation and now I will descibe in greater detail as to what this issue I am referring to is and the symptoms of this issue and some of the various methods used to remedy this issue.
The issue is that while play a game the system experiences a short 5-10 second freeze during the game randomly, but usually several times an hour. During this freezing the sound would loop and as suddenly as the freeze occurs it would cease and the game would continue on as if nothing happened. However, sometimes this would result in the system freezing outright after this short 5-10 second freeze... but it does not feel like a total system freeze, but rather a video freeze as the sound continues and I still have keyboard control... but this does require me to force a manual reboot of the machine itself. I have scowered the internet and various forums in an attempt to find what the issue was and use various methods to remedy this issue, but so far nothing has worked in my favor... but it does seem like this issue has been plaguing other users with the MSI Neo2 Platinum motherboard. Below are some of the methods that I have used in an attempt to solve this issue:
*Default Clock for CPU/Memory/GPU; Over/Under Clock for CPU/Memory/GPU
*Increased voltages to CPU VID, AGP, and Memory
    *Disabled/Enabled AGP Fast Writes
*Increased AGP Aperture from 64MB to 512MB
*Enabled/Disabled ATI/nVidia Speedup option in BIOS
*Forced AGP clock lock to 66-67mhz
    *Relaxed/Aggressive memory timings
    *APIC enabled/disabled
    *Gate A20 turbo/normal
*Disabled all unneeded onboard components (Realtek NIC, Sound, SATA)
*Disabled nVidia MAC and attempted to use 3Com Gigabit PCI card instead
    *Swapped HDD Cables
*Tried PCI Sound Card (SB Audigy2 ZS Gamer) in PCI Slots 3/4
*Tried video drivers from 71.89 Official to 76.45 beta modified drivers
*Tried 5.10 official nForce drivers to remixed 7.02 nForce drivers (5.10 drivers uses 4.36 GART, higher drivers uses the 4.40 GART)
*Applied all the latest updates from Windows Update Website
*Reinstalled Operating System (Windows XP SP2) 5 different times clean with various settings (APIC on/off, etc...) and different drivers.
*Installed Audio Card (SB Audigy2 ZS Gamer) with older and the latest drivers available from Creative's website
    *Replaced PSU (Previously was a Thermaltake 420watt PSU, 18A +12v) with a OCZ Modstream 520watt PSU (28A +12v)
*Video card is KNOWN working from previous build (AMD XP 3000, Abit NF7-S)
*Hard Drive is KNOWN working from previous build
*CD/DVD-ROM drive is kNOWN working from previous build
*Heat is not an issue... all components temperature is well below rated level, the only unknown is the chipset temperature (it has a active heatsink and seems to not be hot to the touch, applied AS5 to it anyway)
*Used latency tweak to the video card
*Used Rivatuner to force constant performance level
*Tweaked BIOS to force even clock rates and forced 1.4v to the GPU Core
    *Used original GPU BIOS
    *Used MSI Neo2 K8N Bios 1.4 - 1.8 and modified BIOS 1.8
*No background applications are running (not even antivirus)
*Used application to force maximum refresh rates for my monitor
*Memory passed MemTest86+ for over 24 hours
*System passed Prime95 and SuperPi for over 24 hours
*System seems stable in all non gaming related applications
    *Checked through various troubleshooting procedures
    *Disabled SBDRVDET.EXE using MSCONFIG
*There are no IRQ conflicts outside of PCI system management sharing IRQ11 with the NIC and USB... in APIC there are no IRQ conflicts what so ever. Regardless neither method worked
*Installed AMD 64 drivers from AMD
    *Disabled DEP in boot.ini
*...and many other various tweaks and modifications.

I have been fighting this issue for well over a month now and I am frankly nearly out of ideas, this does not necessarly prevent me from playing games, but this does interfere with the games I do play (especially online games). I do demand absolute stability from the games that I play and this issue only began AFTER I upgraded to the new motherboard, processor, and memory. The only thing I have not tried is something that I do not have access in attempting on this motherboard, and that is increasing the voltage to the chipset.
Here is my theory on what is going on is that I believe is there is a fault with the chipset on this motherboard and this is manifesting itself while I am playing various games on this system. Of course I would like to try increasing the voltage to the chipset as that would increase stability, but there is no option in BIOS to increase the chipset voltage like the previous motherboard I had (Abit NF7-S). It is possible that either a) the chipset is at fault and is causing me this issue or b) the chipset is not recieving enough voltage.
My question to the rest of you is this, what do you think the problem is and what ideas do you have that I may try that I have not tried yet. Additionally if there is nothing else that I may try should I attempt to RMA this motherboard and will that help, and is there any other versions of this motherboard that I should be aware of. I would appreciate any response from a MSI representative and any comments from those that may have positive suggestions for my issue. Thank you in advance for your time and any help that you may be able to render.

*EDIT* Added additional methods attempted... (there was a lot... so I did not remember everything that I have tried)

Does it only happen in online games, or can it happen in all games? One thing to make sure of is to turn off CRC checksum offload in your NVidia MAC properties (everyone do this, it is incorrectly calculating checksums which leads to servers ignoring your packets). However as you have tried a different network card you can discount this theory.
For me it looks like the biggest culrpit is your 6800NU, i have read alot of bad things about the NU and you have a low bios revision there, just because it worked well against your old chipset doesnt mean it will work well against your current chipset. Sounds like a BIOS fix is needed as some timing is out somewhere.
Ensure Spread Spectrum is off (and as you have already pointed out Fast writes, ATI NV Speedup) and your card is running at default clock.
As a test beg/borrow/steal another graphics card (preferably nvidia) and see how it goes so you can narrow in on your video card.
It is not just one game, but it is more prodominate in certain games than others... the game in question here is Planetside... though I stuck a demo of Unreal Tournament 2004 on a loop bot match and it seemed to have locked up after 4 hours (not sure how many times it experienced that 5-10 freeze as I went to bed). As for the video card it was KNOWN working from a previous build in those same games (Previous build was a AMDXP3000 and a Abit NF7-S nForce2 motherboard). The only components different in this build is the AMD64, the MSI Neo2 K8N, 2 new sticks of Corsair XMS to replace the Corsair ValueSelects, and the SB Audigy2 as I would never use a software codec audio solution. Spread Spectrum is LOCKED in BIOS and disabled... ATI/nVidia speed up was disabled from the start... and I tried the Video Card at default clock, over clocked, as well as under clocked and the same issue resulted... as I said before it is NOT the video card.
There are two other things I could try is use my old Geforce4ti 4200 and see what happens... or even try out WindowsXP 64-bit edition as someone earlier suggested. I wish I could find a new BIOS for my XFX 6800NU, but there there is only the revision 1 BIOS that I was able to find. The mystery continues...

  • Random restarts with Eclipse SLI board

This is a copy from my post on the Vista forums havent gotten much help there.
    Describe the problem in detail!
I just built a new system on December 22nd 2008. I do Tier 2 and 3 Helpdesk work so I can work my way around a system. I put the machine together installed Vista did all the updates got all the newest drivers. Basically since I have built the Machine it will just randomly restart. It will not display a BSOD, I have auto restart turned off, and it does not create an event in the event viewer. It is almost like someone touched the reset button.
    When did the problem start?
December 22nd 2008 the day I built the machine.
What have you tried to fix it?
Tried several different BIOS setups. I have upgraed the bios, did all the windows updates, got all the newest drivers for video, audio, lan etc etc. Removed MSI Live Monitor, disabled green power in Bios, and removed overclocking center. Went through event viewer and corrected three of the four errors that was showing up. One error is the Kerebos one and I am not worried about that one.  I have just run both Memtest86 and Memtest86+ and both of them stop responding about half way through the test.
What is the error message (of any)?
I have Vista set to not auto restart so I should see a BSOD but I get no message. I have had 4 restarts just today and none of them created a new MEMORY.DMP file or any type of event in the viewer.
I do get warnings about something called FLASH.SYS but I cannot seem to track down what this is.
What was the last thing you did before the problem started?
    Built the machine.
    What are your system specs?
    Vista 64
    MSI Eclipse SLI X58
12 Gigs Crucial ram matched to the MoBo using the crucial matching system on the crucial website. The MoBo supports up to 24 and I am using Vista 64bit.
Antec P190 Case (Dual power supplies for a total of 1.2 KW of power)
    Intel Core I7 2.66
Creative Extreme Gamer Edition PCI E sound card
    Mcaffee
    BFG 260 GTX
Coolmaster V8 cooler (CPU under stress runs about 70f well below the max of 208f)
    Do you have a screenshot?
    Nope
My next step is to take out 6 gigs of RAM and see if the issue goes away.
    Any suggestions?

Test one memory module only and see what happens.  If things seem fine, add one more module and test again (and so on).

  • PC restarts when running games since GTX 970 install

    Hi all,
my PC build is 4 years old and has been stable until I replaced a Radeon 6950 with a GTX 970 last night. Am I missing something or is my card defective?
All drivers are up to date, and I used the GeForce Experience to "optimize" graphic settings in these games.
Crashes (sudden PC shutdown and restart) only occur occasionally, only when in-game:
Bioshock Infinite (in menu, once). Proceeded into gameplay (20 minutes) without problems.
Heroes of the Storm (in game, 3 times during a 2 hour session). Some games ran fine.
World of Warcraft (once, after tabbing back from the desktop).
Evolve (once, while one of the monster intro videos was playing).
    PC Specs:
    Windows 7
    i5 2500k @ 3.3 (I previously had it a 4.4, but bumped it back down. Still crashing).
    Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3
MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V
    Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
    Crucial M4 128GB SSD
    4 Hard Drives
    Corsair Professional 850W Power Supply

    Hi
Your motherboard running latest BIOS? Ask asus for this.
Is your RAM factory matched (all 4 slots in one box) or 2x 2x4GB ? Try with single RAM stick/kit.
Try to completely uninstall AMD drivers and nvidia. Then reinstall nvidia.
    Install >>Driver Fusion<<
Go into Safe Mode, run Driver Fusion and remove all amd and nvidia drivers.
    Reboot.
Install nvidia drivers. Then reboot and try again with games.

  • Satellite A500-17x restarting while playing games

    Hello,
I got this laptop for christmas, and have recently purchased games through steam, it is then when I came to play Call of Duty 4 that the laptop just randomly restarted itself. At first I thought that it must of overheated, but then it was not hot at all, and had only just been switched on. I then thought it could of been the game conflicting with the computer, so I tried other games such as Counterstrike: Source, no luck it still randomly restarted. Ive played for hours without it turning off then other times just minutes. The laptop is ok when im just surfing the internet etc. but restarts when playing games. I have read other forums expressing the same problem, but have yet to find a solution. I have updated the display drivers from the Toshiba website, from nVidia but still not working.
    Please Help :)

I believe I know the solution.
I've been looking over this forum for a few months with the same problem, looking for developments that might help me solve mine, so I feel it right that I should post here telling you how mine's fixed.
I sent mine off from where I bought it (PC World) for repair, twice. The first time all they did was clean out the fan, but sending it back with the same problem, they changed the motherboard, also known as the mainboard, and it seems to have fixed the problem. I have evidence why this is so from wikipedia. Some of the major functions of a motherboard are:
    - slots for expansion cards (these interface to the system via the buses supported by the chipset)
    - power connectors, which receive electrical power from the computer power supply and distribute it to the CPU, chipset, main memory, and expansion cards.
I always assumed with it switching off on the AC power supply WHILE PLAYING GAMES, there must be some sort of problem with the link between the power and the "expansion cards" e.g graphics and video cards, and it seems that this "link" is indeed the motherboard, so in manufacturing, it sure seems like the model of the motherboard used by Toshiba may have had a minor fault for the model that causes this shut down, unfortunately.
So far there has been no problem using the laptop while playing games, and it seems to be all fine so far!
I hope this answer helped a lot in sorting out your problems, good luck and happy gaming! :)

  • Mid 2010 Macbook Pro Random Restarts

    Hello everyone ,
My mid 2010 MBP has been recently restarting randomly , this has happened after upgrading to Mountain Lion, however I don't know if it is a coincidence or not. I have done a clean re-install but the problem has been happening, I've also tried resetting the PRAM, but nothing has worked so far.
This is the latest error log :

I will be really thankful if you can help me with this, as this is my only computer and I'm studying for exams and working on my projects now , but these random restarts drive me nuts at times!

I have done the Apple Hardware Tests -the extensive ones- and it did not find any hardware problems, to be on the safe side I reset the PRAM and reinstalled OS Lion this time and soon after the reinstall , I got kernel panics , So I'm really confused about what is causing these kernel panics ! Here's the latest report :

    Swizard210,
I have the same model MacBook Pro as you do. In that other thread which you’d linked to, the GPU problems happen with the Mid 2010 15-inch model rather than the Mid 2010 13-inch model, so we don’t have to worry about that problem.
One thing that I noticed in your crash report — almost certainly unrelated to the crash — is that you have 6 GB of RAM installed. Having mismatched RAM (in your case, a 4 GB module in bank 0 and a 2 GB module in bank 1) can reduce performance. When opportunity permits, you might consider purchasing a second 4 GB module to replace your 2 GB module. Having more RAM could also improve throughput, aside from the matched-module aspect. Our model MacBook Pro has been found to support up to 16 GB of RAM when OS X 10.7.5 or newer is installed, so another “gold-plated” option could be to replace both of your memory modules with two 8 GB modules.

  • Macbook pro mid 2010 15 inch random restart

When I work and use digital imaging everything is fine. Using the internet, looking at hundreds of youtube videos are all fine. No error is occuring.
However when I always come back to my hobby: playing games, one in particular called "League of Legends" I get random crashes where the screen turns black and the sound of whatever is coming out glitches for about 3 times and the computer restarts saying "the computer restarted due to an error"
This doesn't happen at specific times. Sometimes I get through games perfectly fine 5 -10 games in a row and randomly on the 11th game my computer crashes.
sometimes it crashes on the first round. It disrupts my gamplay because usually it is sometime in the middle.
Here are the logs that i've been sending to apple when It asks me to send an error report.

Does anyone know why this is happening? at first I thought it was because of the game client or something, but then people said that it may be the video and that apple is doing a mass recall? or something? if the computer was bought within 3 years something like that i'm not too sure about the details it was a rumor.
    was there a defect?

    Hi stan,

  • NEW Macbook with random RESTART! HELP!

This is my second attempt to post as I had my 3rd random restart while typing!
I have a week 36 MB. I waited to get my very 1st MAC until the last day of the free ipod deal...hoping I would get the MB that had been freed of the shutdown problems. Can someone please advise this newbie on what could be the problem? Do I start with calling applecare or just make an appt. at genius bar?
Also, read in an old post that temp. might be the problem. I have only heard my fan come on once since i had this thing and it was befor I was experiencing my restarts. How do I check the operating temp. and what is considered too high?
    Thanks for any help!!!

To check the temperature, do a Google search for "coreduotemp". Temperatures are subjective -- everyone's runs a bit different. Apple won't say anything about it. Intel has documentation that says the processor itself is OK up to 100'C. Personally, when my MacBook started RSD'ing, the temp wasn't any higher than normal.
I'd follow kjk's advice and either give Apple a call or make an appt at your local Genius bar.
RSD is a known issue and I'd be very surprised if the Genii (and the people at Apple's repair depots) can't replace heatsinks with their eyes closed by now.

  • Ipod Touch 5 random restart and wifi connectivity issues

    Good day to you sir...
My Ipod Touch 5G 32gb model white has issues towards random restart and wifi unstable even though I have full bars and a working wifi internet connectivity
Here are details that might help on my case..
I bought the Itouch 5 on singapore exactly around January 2013 registered on January 1 on Apple web for warranty.
Around early Feb, i experienced some random restart and I tought it was just some bug after update, it was gone and came back around late march with some wifi issues, but not regularly, only around certain cases on using it for a long period of time. I am still experiencing it now.
The device never experienced drops, dents, nor water damage.. it is protected by an Ozaki case and screen protector bought in a Mac store. Never been Jailbraked. I used it for music, videos and gaming purpose. I have 3 idevice other than the Itouch (iPad 2, Ipad w/ retina display and Ipad Mini with no occuring problems both updated to ios 6.1.3 (so is the itouch). I would like to know what course of action should I take about this problem. I have restored the Ipod Touch 5G via iTunes but the problem still occuring both wifi and random restart. I bought the device on a legit mac authorized dealer. (Power Mac i think) in Singapore, but I live in General Santos City, Philippines. I would gretly appreciate if you give me exact details what course of action should i take.
P.S. my Ipod Touch 5 is running on iOS 6.1.3..

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store..

  • HT4847 I'm new to iPhone and iCloud... I have lots of pics on my iPhone but only some appear on my iPad, they're in Camera Roll on the phone but random ones only have come into Photos on the iPad - can anyone help? Thanks!

I'm new to iPhone and iCloud... I have lots of pics on my iPhone but only some appear on my iPad, they're in Camera Roll on the phone but random ones only have come into Photos on the iPad - can anyone help? Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.

  • Mac Pro 3,1 Randomly restarting

    Hi all,
My Mac Pro is getting a lot of kernal panic's which I assume is causing the random restarts - on boot I get "your computer restarted because of a problem'...
I'm not much of a tech person so I was hoping someone could look at the crash log and tell me what the issue is?
I've repaired Disk Permissions and all looks to be ok...

The Mac Pro has Error-Correcting Code memory, so you do not have a memory problem, else you would get a very distinctive kernel panic, machine check. uncorrectable error or error overflow.
Mac OS X kernel does not usually panic in this fashion. But you are not running Mac OS X kernel, as you have added all these modifications to it:
    com.aladdin.kext.aksfridge    1.0.2
    com.blackmagic-design.desktopvideo.iokit.framebufferdriver    9.7.
    com.aja.iokit.konalhi    10.3.2

    com.Newer.kext.MAXPower_eSATA_6G_RAID    1.0.0
    com.highpoint-tech.kext.HighPointRR    4.0.0
One or more of them appears to be making your Mac unstable.
You should uninstall them all, and see if the panics stop. Then reinstall only the ones you really want, one at atime.
