Random restarts when connected to comp.
So this has been happening for a few months now.
I plug my iTouch 16gb (1st gen) into my Mac Mini. So I'll get the black screen with the battery indicator... then about half the time, the screen will shut off after three seconds of the battery display screen and restart. After it's done restarting, my battery level drops 1/3-1/2 of what it was before the restart (regardless of battery levels before hand). After these sudden restarts, a regular syncing (no new music or anything, just a sync/update of calendars, bookmarks, contacts, etc.) the iTouch will take around five minutes(!)
Now the iTouch will also randomly restart when I connect to my iBook. But it has never happened when I plug the iTouch into the USB power adapter (current model). I've tried using different USB cords, doesn't make a difference. I've connected other people's iTouches to computers, never replicated a restart. I've restored, restarted, etc. my iTouch who knows how many times, still get the restarts.
So I don't know, something wrong with my iTouch hardware wise?
Thanks!
This doesn't really help you but mine occasionally restarts when I plug it in to iTunes and so far I've not experienced any problems with my iPod or what's on it when it happens. Just thought you'd like to know you're not alone

Random restarts when talking on the phone on iOS4 and 4.0.1
Random restarts when talking on the phone on ios4 and 4.0.1. I have tried restoring the factory settings as if the phone was new, but this didnt help, it only wipes it and re-installs 4.0.1, i thought it would be 3.1.3 as this was the factory os that came with it.
So do not upgrade to ios4!thanks nick, i found the thread:

Random Restarts when Using Battery
I am experiencing frequent random restarts on my 2 month old MBP. Serial number says it's a week 13.
The pattern seems to be when I have 2 gig of RAM and have been using the MBP for about an hour on battery power.
When I remove a stick of RAM everything seems fine when running on the battery. When running on AC with both sticks it's real random as to when it restarts. With only 1 stick on AC everything seems fine.
Apps don't make any difference to the restart. The MBP reboots when using InDesign, Firefox, Safari, Office etc.
I have 1 stick of Apple RAM and 1 of Edge (Tech Corp) RAM. Both 1 gig each. Both work fine on their own but not together.
Ran the hardware test CD and everything came back ok.
Are there any additional tests I can do to really nail down where the problem lies or is the next step a call to Apple?
I am running OS10.4.6 but haven't updated the firmware or security updates. I also have 2 batteries, both calibrated, and it rebots on either battery.
Thanks.I've found a couple of articles on Apple's site for resetting the pmu and pram. I didn't get a chance to do this yesterday but will be doing it later on today.
Here's the articels I read:
Reset PMU
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319
Reset PRAM
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
I haven't updated the firmware or security updates yet for fear of battery problems. I might do it once I've got my RAM issue resolved, so I'm running on the factory installed firmware. -
MBP Core 2 Duo randomly restarts when closing lid
Randomly my 2.33 Core 2 Duo restarts when closing the lid instead of going to sleep.
A real pain when your in the middle of something
Anyone know a fix ?
Recently had a new logic board (due to faulty graphics card) and hoped this might also cure the restart at sleep problem. Did not.
Advice welcome.
ThanksI would suggest you to reset the power manager to check whether the issue resolves. If the issue persists please contact Apple Authorized Service provider for further troubleshooting.
In this case I suspect the logic board or may be the sensors as a issue but to confirm it is always good to contact an AASP for further troubleshooting.
To reset the Power manager refer this article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319 -
Recently upgraded to mountain lion in order to buy the new tall tower for time machine backups. had to get technical support to help with set up as it wouldn't play ball with two computers. all working fine up until last week when the iMac started getting backup error messages. then system restarts independently when using time machine on the time machine wireless network. only stops restarting when I switch the wireless network back to he bt one, which is a pain obviously as can't back up to time machine then. it has to be a problem with airport utility or something wireless but all says all up to date with software etc. all still works fine backing up from laptop on the wireless network, just the iMac is not happy. any help or thoughts very much appreciated.
Hi, many thanks Bob, what you say is not unthinkable at all, although it does answer the question
"what could I do *instead* of ..." rather than the one I actually asked, but seriously ...
Shutting down might be an answer, although it would clear out my tmp directory - which I might not want to have to sort through looking for things I want to save every time I go to work, and also, now that nvram doesn't seem to work for disabling the boot chime, it can get a bit embarassing booting up in a busy meeting if I have forgotten to mute before I shut down. There are all sorts of other issues, such as editing documents, loading web pages and so on that I would have to set up again.
Your suggestion of letting Apple know is a good one - thank you for the link.
Take care,
Mark -
Nano Not Charging Up when connected to comp
Can anyone help me out? My nano is not charging when connected to computer...is there anything that needs to be done in order for it to auto charge? Thanks!
Take it to your local Apple store, but make sure you get an appointment to get it checked out by their specialists. Mine had the same problem, and they replaced it for me for free. Dont mess around with the phoneline help, and sending it in - it will turn into a big run around, a mess, and you will have to wait a few weeks.

New Nano continually restarts when connected to XP
I bought my g/f a new 8gb nano for her birthday. It connects to my vista comp with no problems, and my 30gb ipod video connects to her XP comp with no problems, but when i connect her nano to her XP comp, it cycles through saying "connected" and "ok to disconnect". When saying "ok to disconnect" the bar never seems to fill completely before saying "connected" again. The comp says "there was a problem installing this hardware" and in My Computer, a removable disk appears and disappears continually. Nano has the latest software installed.
Can anyone please advise on how to fix this?
Message was edited by: AsrielThat's a switch: most people have trouble with Vista and not XP. It's possible she formatted the iPod on the Vista machine in some way that's NOT compatible with the XP machine. If you REALLY want it to work on the XP machine, start over and try formatting/restoring on THAT machine. Good luck.

HI,
I tried each and every solution available on the internet. But still i am thinking it's software issue.
Here is the issue i am facing in my iPad 3.
1) If iPad is not connected with computer or plug for charge then it just showing me red low bettery symbol
2) If i connect it for charging with apple laptop or windows or power plug alwys keep restarting and never showing me the home screen with apps.
I tried with hard restore using DFU mode for iOS 7.1 and all process is done also but still it is keep restarting and battery simbol if not connected.
My iPad is not jailbroaken so no any third party software is there.
I dont know where i stuck in this issues mostly i tried with each solution i tried with different computers , different cables and all.
It's very urgent kindly send me your thoughts which can help me to get this solution.
My ipad warrenty is expired and i can not give it to replace which i can not afford.
Looking forward to hear your thoughts and how can i solve this issue.
Thanks And Regards
HimanshuHello, Nectar bits.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I see you have tried some troubleshooting steps already with there issue persisting. Here are some additional troubleshooting steps to go through when experiencing this issue. They are labeled for the iPhone, but apply to the iPad as well.
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
If the issue persists, see the section labeled Issue not resolved.

N97 restarts when connecting to PC via Mass Storag...
Hi guys,
My friend has a N97 and she changed the font using E:\Resource\Fonts\ folder method. The font was successfully changed; however, she didn't like it.
So she decided to change back the font, but whenever she connects the N97 to PC via "Mass Storage" mode, the phone restarts itself, and by that I mean EVERY SINGLE TIME it'll restart.
Therefore we tried "PC Suite" mode, but we're unable to make any changes to the Fonts folder (ie delete / rename / cut-paste).
I've also tried using X-plore, but whenever I try to delete the [s60snr.ttf/etc...] files, xplore will give me an error: "Can't Delete File: E:\Resource\Fonts". I'm sure that the file isn't in "read-only" if that helps anyone.
The fonts are stored in the 30gb internal memory inside the N97, so it's impossible to swap out the memory and delete on another phone/computer.
I appreciate any answersHi Guys,
I had same problem with my N97 mini. I do not have external memory card. I installed 'FONTS' in my mass memory. Font changed but if I connect my phone in mass storage mode, phone resets.
Here is what I did,
1. Copy all my data in PC using PC suit mode ( I suspect back utility will not work here because it will restore the back up including fonts folder in mass memory. I am not sure though). Also copy RESOURCE folder in your PC ( you can delete fonts folder in this copied folder in PC. I made a mistake of copying only RESOURCE folder you can copy all the folders from mass memory and restore it later.
2. disconnect the phone from PC
3. Open , Office --> File mgr. --> Mass Memory --> got to options --> Scroll down --> format mass memory.
That's it.
Your phone will be 'shut down' after formatting is completed.
Restart the phone connect it to PC suit. You might not be able to see mass memory. In that case connect it in ' mass memory' mode. You can find your phone is not resetting. Copy RESOURCE folder from PC with out fonts folder.
You may reinstall firmware and reinstall all the application you need.
It worked form me. Hope it works for you. Do it on your own risk. Do not forget to copy the data from mass memory.
You may find HARD RESET options (*#7370#) but it only resets your C drive and not F OR G Drive.
If you have installed Fonts in G (External memory). I guess you can just remove it from phone and remove the fonts folder easily. Just remove external memory use card reader to connect it to PC and remove.

Iphone not charging and continuously restarting when connected
Last night I let my iphone 4 run down to 2% charge. I plugged it into the charger (china one) and it would come up with the electricity symbol, but not be charging. I then connected it to my genuine apple charger and the same thing happened. It then continuously restarted, i.e. apple screen for a few seconds, then my pincode screen for a split second, then the thinking and restarting symbol (round in a circle) before going black for a few seconds then back to the apple screen. I couldn't get it out of this loop, so I connected it to my itunes. The same reboot happened once, then it came up with an error message
"itunes could not connect to this iphone beause an unknown error occurred (OxE8000065)"
The next morning I unplugged and replugged the phone into the mac and a different message popped up
"The iphone cannot be synced. An internal device error occured."
It did the restart again and I tried a reset (home and lock button) but it just went through the restart back to a black screen again.
I tried it in a different USB port and possibly coincidentally, it now says on itunes
"the phone "xx iphone" cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found."
Now if I press the home button, the battery image comes up with minimal red bar. It does not go through the restart loop.
My thoughts - have I dropped it one too many times (as I had the day before) and the battery has come loose (won't charge)? If so I will pull it apart and have a look as it's 10 days out of warranty.
Should I try a DFU or Recovery mode whilst plugged into the mac? I have a back up on icloud but still chance to lose lots of data.
What do I try first or are there any other suggestions? And thank you for reading this long winded issue!I ended up going to the Apple Store and they said it's a common problem. As my phone was out of warranty I had to pay for a refurbished one, but it still works 1 year later. Better than forking out $600 for a brand new one.

Forced to restart when connecting ANY flash drive
I wanted to move a few files from one computer to another, so I plug in the USB into the other computer for the files (which was an HP laptop) and moved them to the flash.
Then, I plug it into my laptop.
It freezes immediately, and without hesitation from top to bottom grey starts filling down the screen, it's a thin layer that still lets me see a bit of the background.
When the gray has covered the entire screen, I get a message saying that I HAVE to restart my computer, or turn off then on.
So I unplug the usb and restart. Plug it in, starts over.
Why?
I also plugged in a different USB and got the same problem.
NOTICE: From this point on it will get a little more technical, use the information above to try and help if you understand, if you understand what is below then try to help anyways.
Do you think that this: IOUSBFamily Log release for Mac OS X 10.5.6 Build 9G55
will help?
If I install this, will it fix it?i would try resetting your smc:

Computer restarts when connecting ipod - please help!
Hey, I've recently bought a usb 2.0 card so i can connect my ipod via usb 2.0 as it will be faster than usb 1.1.
There is a slight problem however, almost every time i connect my ipod via the usb cable to this new usb 2.0 port, the computer restarts.
On the odd few occasions the computer hasn't restarted, my ipod has not been recognised in itunes or my computer.
I have tried connecting other things such as my phone and my old mp3 player to the new usb card and they work fine.
Is this a problem with my ipod or just the usb card?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks alot.
Windows XP
Windows XPI've had this problem and given the advice to others and it has worked for some. This isn't mentioned in any other advice that I can see but it is a simple check that you should do, not very technical either!
With your iPod plugged in to the computer, first go through the 5R's and other help topics to check the basics (new cable, different computer, different USB port etc.)
If no luck, check to see if your iPod exists in Device Manager as follows: right-click on My Computer, then click on Manage, then Device Manager, then expand the section called Disk Drives on the right hand side and see if the iPod is shown there, if it is, go on to the next stage.
In the same Computer Management box, click on Disk Management on the left hand side, after a few seconds a new box opens on the right and should show all of the disks on your computer including the iPod. Then right-click on the iPod information and it will give you an option to Change the drive letter or path....click on that and then select Change; select a new drive letter which is not already assigned to any other disc (I picked Z down the bottom), save that then exit and see if it works. Good luck!
