Random Shut Down MAYBE the truth :)

Hi everybody, i have the same issues of you all with my Macbook black...
The random shutdown is not so "random" because is a fan related issue.
With CoreDuoTemp i noticed that running command 'yes' in console cpu temp increase rapidly till 81° C ... then voltage and frequency get decreased to 1,83 then 1 ghz but intel processor protection shut down the system.
The fan in this process is not running at all, macbook is silent instead of using the fan.
I noticed this because i bought this mac in may and since last firmware update i didn't have any kind of problem.
I'm pretty sure that this issue is 100% related to latest firmware update.
Now the only thing to do is to get back mooing fan with the old firmware but how?
Apple please help us!

Many of us have reported that the RSD occur when the computer is cold, rather than hot. Warmth has never been the issue with mine. So it is probably a combination of many different issues, one of which is fan activity.
RSDs are the symptom of a very complicated and large number of issues; most probably they have to do with thermal management, but nobody really knows for sure... hopefully the Apple in-house hardware experts will finally arrive to some kind of conclusion, or series of conclusions.

  • I have a 64gb ipad mini that's been updated to iOS 7.0.4. Lately it's been randomely shutting down in the middle of a screen.

I have a 64gb ipad mini that's been updated to iOS 7.0.4. Lately it's been shutting down in the middle of almost any app and the screen goes black and then the apple logo appears as if I've done a hard reset. I've tried both soft and hard resets but with no results. Sometimes thes happens several times in a row. Does anyone have any ideas? I did read discussions and close running apps to make sure there is enough memory. In the past this sort of happened (rarely) and it just left an app and went to the home screen, but this is a total shutdown.

I think you have covered most of everything that you could possibly do at this point other than restoring the iPad iOS software. That's what I would try now. If that doesn't fix it, make an appointment at an Apple Store and ask a genius to evaluate the problem for you.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

  • IPHONE RANDOMLY SHUTTING DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF AN OPERATION

My iphone has taken to shutting down and displaying the Apple logo- can be in the middle of a call, or typing a text, or opening an e-mail. It will go to sleep for a minute(with the logo illuminated), maybe two then the home screen appears again, and the phone will then work faultlessly for an hour, maybe more, then it has another headfit and will crash several times inside an hour. I am running the most up to date version. Rebooting using the home button and off button simultaneously, has no effect. I have restored using itunes, several times- it still does it. I have deleted all the bought apps- to see if one of those was the cause. No better. Just running original apps supplied, still continues to have amind of its own, shutting down on a whim.
AM I ALONE IN EXPERIENCINMG THIS?

This is almost certainly a software issue. You should perform a restore on your computer. If this does not work you should make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your nearest Apple Store. However, I believe a restore should do the trick. Plug the phone in to your computer. Open up iTunes. Sync the phone. Then, from the summary page for the phone in iTunes hit the Restore button and let it do its thing. When it is done it will ask if you want to restore from the back up of your phone. Just say yes and all your information will be synced back over. Welcome to the Forums.

  • Since upgrading to Maverick my macbook pro randomly shuts down all the time, no idea why...

Since I upgraded to Maverick, my Macbook Pro shuts down quite often without warning. No idea why.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

  • Random Shut Down of the iTunes program - HELP PLEASE!

My iTunes refuses to work! As of yesterday morning, every single time I try to open up the iTunes program, it does the following:
1] Opens up to the Music Store
2] The bar loads and says "Accessing Music Store"
3] Before the Music Store can load even half way, iTunes closes. There is no message of error or any warning. It simply closes and nothing happens.
I tried repairing iTunes, twice, and restarting my computer, and nothing helped. I then deleted iTunes, and then reinstalled the latest version, and THIS didn't help either. The only difference is that every time I click on the iTunes icon on my desktop, a license agreement comes up, and after I click "Agree," the same problem occurs over and over again.
I was only able to play music once, yesterday afternoon, and I'm not quite sure why. My iTunes played two songs, and when a third came on, it shut off again and hasn't worked since. I recently had wireless Internet installed, and I'm wondering if this could be a contributing factor to my problem? I had my wireless installed about a week ago, but up until yesterday, everything was fine with my iTunes program. Also, I had a very fast, non-dial-up connection before [connected to a high speed internet box] and I did not have any iTunes related problems.
I apologize for the length of this post/question! Thank you SO MUCH in advance for simply taking the time to read this! I am at such a loss when it comes to this issue, and any help or suggestions would be so amazingly appreciated. Thanks again.

What kind of wireless router are you using?
Also go into Win XP firewall (Start > Control Panel> and turn it off, just for a test. See if you can get into iTunes and play something.
Remember to turn Win XP firewall back on.

  • Imac g5 randomly shutting down

i recently purchased a used imac g5 from a computer store for around 500 bucks. I luv the computer, nut it began to randomly shut down in the middle of activity. I took it to the store and the technician said that everything looked fine. of course he ran it for twenty minutes and it did not shut down....get home later that day and it runs for about an hour and shuts down. I have been on it today to test it and it has run for 8 hours perfectly. Is this computer worth keeping? I see the numerous posts about this very problem. has anyone figured out exactly why these units do this, and should i get my money back and move on before i get in to deep?

Hey davie and Welcome to Apple Discussions,
    Is this an ALS model?
Well look in terminal and see if there's something in the log. Go to; applications > utilities > terminal. If something's there post it.
    Also there's this:

So check for bad caps on the logic board and also in the power supply.

  • Website randomly shuts down during access

I am having a problem with a particular website (booking.com) on my ipad (version1). Every time i try to search or even sign in the website randomly shuts down in the middle of the process. I have tried deleting the bookmark, cleared history and cookies. Any suggestions how to fix the problem?

Likely something in the site design that does not play well with iOS.
Try downloading the app from the app store.

  • My 8310 randomly shuts down

I have my phone fully charged and it will then randomly shut down.  The ONLY way to restart it is to plug it into the charger, the hourglass starts up and it takes a while to get back to "normal" .
I think the only constant I can pick up is that the phone does not shut down when lying static.
    Please help

    Hiya!
have you noticed any particular trend as to what you are doing when it is shutting down?
If it happens when using an app, try removing that app. if its a core program, I would recommend trying a Clean Reload of your OS using the DM and see if that gets it. Just make sure you backup first.

  • MacBook random shut down (again)

My MacBook has been randomly shutting down for the last week, regularly but unpredictably. It's a number of years old at this point, but has rarely given me problems. The battery is long since dead, so I have had to have it constantly plugged in. I've tested with other adapter cords, but the shut-downs still occur. I anticipate it must have something to do with overheating? Any insight for how I can fix this issue, or whether doing so is even worthwhile?

  • My iPad randomly shuts downs apps and safari...any suggestions? The pad it's self doesn't shut down..it just closes the page or app I am on..

My iPad randomly shuts down apps and Safari...any fixes for this?

Basic troubleshooting steps might help. If you are using the iPad 1, low memory issues may be causing the app and Safari to crash.
Quit all apps completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Definitely do this - Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • My iPhone with 40 or so percent randomly shuts down with iOS 7 and 6. Often with the camera app stating the phone is out of battery.  Moments later I turn it back on and the same battery life still appears.

My iPhone with 40 or so percent randomly shuts down with iOS 7 and 6. Often with the camera app stating the phone is out of battery.  Moments later I turn it back on and the same battery life still appears.  It sometimes happens over and over until I leave it alone for a while (still not charging), and then it works.

I think you might get a new phone instead of repairing it as it takes time and you said the repairing center is far from your living place

  • Who HASNT experienced the random shut downs?

anyone out there have a macbook that has NOT experienced the random shut down issue?? if so, what week is your macbook and for how long have you had your computer??
    thanks- paul : )

    penguin first:
It's not that apple isn't telling us what's wrong wih our MacBooks, it's that they look at us like we have two heads when we tell them that there IS a problem, as if they don't already know it! I just figure that if there 869 people registered with RSD issues at www.macbookrandomshutdown.com, then statistically speaking it's not unreasonably to say that there might be more than twice that with the problem. I'd say Apple could stop treating us all like we're silly kids who broke our toys. <<<<<</div>
1)i think that's just a service issue (the lower level staff not being informed)
2)ok, lets double 869 (ill even say ten times that, because realistically 1 in 10 probably knows of this forum/mrsd.com) so 8,690 macbooks with the issue. apple has sold over 1 million macbooks so far. statistically thats still insignificant (less than 1%) these numbers are guestimations, as are yours. but please dont over state the issue, as statistically it doesnt make sense for a widespread recall or any of the other sensationalist claims people are making because they are upset with their macbook problems.
ghunarsdad- my thing with the number of posts on the different forums is that everyone who has the issue is perturbed, and if they are online i doubt they are only ranting on this forum, so alot of that has to be repeat postings for people to vent their frustrations.
i agree about the cloud, and it should be cleared up for both the affected users and potential buyers as well as apple's sake because this is severely hurting their credibility
i doubt they are ignoring this issue for the C2D (since the c2d is supposed to be hotter, if they dont get this issue fixed on this, it will definitely rear its ugly head on the next generation)
p.s. how much do the mac commercials **** you off? i personally cant stand that kid whos on there, but coming from a person experiencing RSDs i cant imagine how infuriating they must be

  • When I was editing a picture that I reposted on instagram, I hit the edit button and then a white screen appears and randomly shuts down. I have also noticed that my iPod has been crashing about every single 30 minutes!

When I was editing a picture that I reposted on instagram, I hit the edit button and then a white screen appears and randomly shuts down. I have also noticed that my iPod has been crashing about every single 30 minutes! Please help!

The iPod crashing when editing a photo is a known bug in iOS 5.1.1.
    For the other problem.
    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order

My iPhone randomly shut down whenever I got a phone call twice in maybe 5 minutes. Now it wont turn on no matter how many times I plug it in or use the home and lock button. Is there anything I can do? After the first time it just turned back on but now it won't.

I just had this happen. Hold the lock and home button down for ten seconds.
