Random sounds in the background after 10.6.3 update

I Updated to 10.6.3 and started hearing sounds like "calming water fall" in the background. I looked for background processes, and running widgets and I can not find any that would cause this. I deleted Adium, in case it was trying to notify me of something.
It is nerve racking….
Please help,
Sonia

I have the same problem. I found I can unplug the keyboard and when replugged, everything works OK.
I just upgraded to OS V10.6.4 and still must unplug and replug the keyboard in order to type.
WHY?

You used the data.  Verizon can not see what it was sued for.  However your phone can see whats apps used the data.  go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle.  line the dates up with your cycle.  then there will be a bar graph below that   extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right.  after those are extended below that will be a list of apps,  there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

  • Strange sounds in the background - malware?

    Hi,
what I'm going to say may look like a joke, but it is not. It's an annoying problem that worries me and I have no one I could consult about it.
For some time now – I can't say exactly for how long – I've been hearing strange animal sounds in the background of my Maverics. These are usually dog barking or horse neighing, and they are quite frequent.
In 99.9% of the cases, when I have my speakers on, it is because I'm listening to some music or watching something. Another thing is that you really have to turn up the volume maximally in order to hear the sounds. So they actually might have been there for quite long, but perhaps I just didn't notice them.
I'm pretty sure, however, that I did hear a horse sound accidentally a couple of weeks ago. I did not care as I was sure that I misheard something. I didn't  think that a horse neigh could be coming from my computer, because seriously, would you?
I suppose the sounds might be caused by a malware. I had been using Sophos for months, but I installed Avast and F-Secure Anti Virus and run them one after another. The former found a Java Open Stream Trojan, a zip bomb and a couple of corrupted files. The latter did not find anything. The sounds are still there.
Is there anything more I could do? Please help me because I'm really worried.
Plus I need some help in clarifying this: I have an Adobe Flash Player Install Manager in my Utilities. I don't know if it has anything to do with the malware that used to be around in 2012, but I followed the Terminal method to see if my computer was infected, and was told it was clean.
I tried to delete the file but it asked for my password, claiming that Finder has to do some changes. I don't know if it's safe to provide the passowrd, so I did not do anyting. Could you please tell me if it's safe and if it's not, what should I do about the utility?

I have found what causes the sounds - it is not malware The sounds were caused by a weather program called YoWindow. Disabling sounds effects solved the problem. It's a relief.
I'd appreciate if someone could anwer my latter question, though.

My audio apps keep playing in the background after I answer a phone call. How do I turn this off?

    Hello BobWeaver,
It sounds like we need to troubleshoot the software on your device as that is not expected behavior.
I would perform steps 1, 3 and 5 from the iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant found here http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/phone/. If you get to step 3, then I suggest closing all the apps. Here is step 1 to get you started:
    Restart iPhone
To restart iPhone, first turn iPhone off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPhone will turn off after a few moments.
Next, turn iPhone on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Is iPhone not responding? To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If your device does not turn on or displays a red battery icon, try recharging next.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • How to stop version check that happens in the background after timeout?

    Hi all,
I have a problem that seriously makes my swing application (installed using webstart) very slow for some time.
Steps to reproduce my problem :
    1. Deploy the jars of application in the web server running on Machine A( either in LAN or running on public IP).
    2. Download the application on Machine B using the link.
    3. Shutdown Machine A.
    4. Now try to start the application on Machine B. The starting of the application has become very slow.
After some time(long enough) the application is started. Even now, the application is slow for first few minutes.
Below is the part of jnlp that we used.:

    My assumsion is
When I start my application, version checking will happen. But the cache server system(machine A) is not available. Due to this initial slowdown has occurred.
After the timeout has occured, my application has started. Since the version checking continuous in the background, my application is again slow.(Even when my application server and database system are in the same LAN of my client machine).
This slowdown is certainly not desirable.
This slowness isn't there when there Machine A( in which my webserver is installed) is running and my webserver (Tomcat 5.0 in my case) is not started.
    Is my assumsion is correct?
If correct, how do I stop version checking process that happens in the background after initial timeout?
I think update check and policy attribute may not help me as I wanted to stop this background version check altogether. Also, my java sersion is 1.5_0_14.
Please help me out in this.
    Thanks in advance..,
    Chakri.

P.S I have chosen the filter: ALL
Please help me with that I'm getting desperate ! I need to finish a project within one week :(
    A million thanks in advance

    Hi F. Carl
The clip is intact and it has video and audio.
I have worked on it before and all was fine until I lost the work when it got frozen!
    The issue is:
I have a (MOV.) ready clip that I wanted to edit a bit, hence I have imported the clip (import media) and whenever I try to work on it, the black screen prohibits me from doing anything.
Any ideas please ... It's really strange !

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Updated my iPhone 5 to ios7, in the App store after installing updates I now have a never ending list of the Apps I've updated.  How do I get rid of the list after they've been updated?  In the previous version I did not have an annoying permanent list.

iOS 7 allows you to have your apps update automatically. Therefore, the list of what has been updated stays so that you can see what was updated, when and what the release notes say. It has been suggested that they list has a limit, much like Recents. Currently, there is no way for the user to delete the entries manually. Just try not to look at them.

If your computer doesn't see the phone when you plug it in, you may have to take it to an Apple Store.

  • Process of Adobe Reader XI, is running in the Background, after closing.

    Hi,
when I close the Adobe Reader XI, the Process is still running in the Background of my System. The Process needs a lot of CPU an after some moment my System is slowing down rapidly.
    Windows 8 (64-bit)
    Adobe Reader 11.
    What's to do?
    Greetings

Same exact same situation happened to me with Windows 8 64 bit, Adobe XI .
the CPOU is slowing down and is heated. the fans s running all the time. the only solution was for me to end the processes from the taks bars (one process per adobe file open !!!)
somethign is definitely wrong; but don't know if it is Windows 8 or Adobe; I thing it is Adobe issue.

  • After installing zone Alarm extreme 10, firefox.exe 32 stays running in the background after closing, making it not possible to open it again.

After installing the latest Zone Alarm Extreme v10, on windows 7 x64, when I close firefox, the window closes but firefox.exe 32 remains running in the background, which makes that when I want to open firefox again, after about a minute I get the error that an instance of firefox is still running. I go to task manager and end task of firefox.exe 32 and then open firefox again.
    This is now happening regularly.

This seemed to come out of the blue, very much as described by anima42. I also am a Ubuntu 10.04 user. I have pondered on the first reply above, and though I don't, and didn't, use Tabberwocky, I was using Tab Mix Plus. Having removed this, the problem seems to have gone away. Another possible clue as to what went wrong: I use a constant Firefox profile located in my home directory. I dabbled with Ubuntu 11.04 a week or so ago, which runs (I think) a more updated Firefox. This Firefox was operating on my default profile, as you would. It may have broken something so it now doesn't play nicely with the 10.04 setup. Just surmising.

  • Running xscreensaver in the background after resume from hibernate

I'm using hibernate-script with my tuxonice kernel. One of the things that annoys me about xscreensaver is how when I resume its always running (because the requisite time has passed), so I have to type my password again, having just typed it at BIOS level.
So I killall xscreensaver in an OnSuspend in /etc/hibernate/common.conf. However, restarting xscreensaver doesn't go to the background. What I'm using is this:-
    OnResume 20 sudo -b -u MYUSERNAME /usr/bin/xscreensaver
However the terminal that I typed sudo hibernate from never returns, I have to killall xscreensaver from another terminal to get it to release. The problem does not occur when I login to a vt as root and run the same command.
    Any suggestions?

I just registered for the forum so I could toss in my solution, so I hope this is what you're looking for. I fork the process and use the 'disown' command. I also use Dan Bernstein's 'setuidgid' utility because I couldn't get it to work with su (I didn't try very hard):
    OnResume 70 setuidgid USERNAME xscreensaver > /dev/null 2>&1 & disown
This works for me even if I execute hibernate and resume from a terminal, despite the fact that II get a "can't find display" error from the terminal.
Of course, the stdout and stderr redirect to /dev/null is not necessary. The 'disown' command removes the subprocess from the process table, so that the subprocess is no longer a child of the parent. It is cast off, essentially. I also use a similar command for restarting gkrellm because gkrellm sometimes fails to recognize my second battery after resume.
One quirk I have found is that hibernate will halt if a kill or killall fails. I thought this was happening because the kill command had returned a non-zero exit status. But I just discovered that forking a kill command prevents hibernate from halting when a kill fails, as in:
    OnSuspend 20 killall xscreensaver > /dev/null 2>&1 &
