Random sounds playing from Macbook unprompted

My Macbook Pro is playing random sounds when it is not being asked to.  Computer on right now, with no music playing and very short snippets of sound (2 seconds at most) are playing out the speakers - trying to identify them they are not parts of songs I have (iTunes is not running right now) but sound like the sonic element of a video that is buffering.  The biggest segment I heard just a few minutes ago where an American lady said quite a few words (sounded like an infomercial).  It's happening maybe every few minutes, but not at regularly timed intervals.
Sounds sort of like trying to tune a radio and only catching snippets of sound (but less regular)
Currently running - google chrome, finder and messages.
Also open Dropbox, Copy, Evernote, f.lux, Gdrive and Twitter apps.
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) / Running Yosemite 10.10 (I'm not 100% sure but I think this problem started before Yosemite upgrade)

    What is your iTunes version?
If iTunes 11, have you checked the "Up Next" list? If it is not empty, try if clearing "UP Next" will help:

  • Please Help! HDMI sound playing from laptop and NOT the TV

Synopsis: Installed Windows 8.1 on new SSD on my Toshiba P75-A7200. I stalled all the drivers from Toshiba website. Everything works except now my HDMI audio does not play on TV play from laptop. I reinstalled the original v. of Intel HD Graphics 4600 and Conexant Smart Audio HD drivers. I also looked in the volume control panel and sound playback options looking for HDMI setting with no luck. Has anyone encountered this? OR have an idea how to get my audio working with HDMI cable to TV?
I checked different HDMI cables to be sure it wasn't a bad cable.

If you're determined to set things right, you can always restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media and upgrade to Windows 8.1 this way
If you failed to create recovery media, obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here
See the instructions in the section Restoring from recovery media, which begins on p. 60 of the User's Guide.

  • Gaps in sound playing from iTunes

I installed an AirPort Express With AirTunes (54Mbps) yesterday, and it works fine as extension for an existing WiFi network in my apartment, and I can use it from both cabled and wireless clients on the network with iTunes.
I experience gaps in the sound in the middle of songs, however - and quite often. Both when playing from cabled and wireless clients with iTunes installed. All clients on the network with iTunes installed are Windows XP Pro systems.
What could be the reason for this?
    Best regards,
    David List

Hello zerobuttons. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I experience gaps in the sound in the middle of songs, however - and quite often. Both when playing from cabled and wireless clients with iTunes installed. All clients on the network with iTunes installed are Windows XP Pro systems.
What could be the reason for this?
It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing you from getting a good clean signal to the AirPort Express Base Station (AX).
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like the following to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible:
    o NetStumbler
    o WiFi Hopper
    o WiFi Owl
    o WiFi Manager

    Hi King_Penguin,
Earlier I had a Windows XP and iPhone4. So photos taken from iPhone4 were copied to Windows XP machine using iTunes and then iTunes syncs these photos to iPad.
Now that Windows XP is no more and instead now I have a new Windows 7 machine and my Macbook. I didn't copied the photos from Windows XP to some external storage medium before dismantling that windows XP machine.
So the only location where these pics and videos are available now is my iPad (1'st Generation).
WIll a new copy of iTunes on Windows 7 be able to copy the pics and videos from this iPad?
    Any suggestion?

  • Video playing from macbook to TV

Sorry for this odd question that may sound impossible for some or ludicrious for others but im a newbie and a computing n00b - so here goes:
I have movies (AVI files) i play on my macbook but the 13" screen is bit small to enjoy the flick - so i ask:
is it possible with a special cable to plug the macbook into the tv back sockets (scarts) or front plugs (AV red and yellow) in order to play the movie on my bigger screen TV 32" within the comfort of my couch?

    Hey,
I believe you can use this:
    Mini DVI to Video Adapter
You can use that to connect to S-Video and Composite. Check that out and see if it would work for your needs.

    Hey, simple fix
Plug head phones in and out of the jack a few times, always works for me

  • Only system sounds play from built-in speakers/headphones!

    Hi All,
I'm at my wit's end right now. Here is the situation:
I woke up this morning and tried to watch a YouTube video off of facebook- no sound. I opened up iTunes to try and play music- no sound. I opened up iMovie and launched a video clip from my HD- no sound.
I delete a file- barely audible sound. I made an error and got the "bonk" error sound- barely audible. As if I only have it at one ) bar, but its at MAX volume.
So I plugged in headphones- The "empty trash" sound works perfect (loud) at max volume. Error messages sound perfect- but when I try and listen to iTunes/YouTube/ANYTHING... no sound.
Troubleshooting I've done (to no sucess):
    Logout/Login with headphones plugged in
Restart with headphones plugged in (both suggested from http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12799085&#12799085)
    Updated Quicktime (as per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2178)
    SMC Reset
    PRAM Reset (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12767451&#12767451)
^ I got VERY excited from the PRAM reset- After self-restarting a second time, the Apple GONG was LOUD (max volume) while all other times it was barely audible.
Unfortunately, it only effected this feature, and nothing else was fixed.
    Any suggestions?

So my husband told me that the night before I discovered this issue, he was using his Apple Remote to lower his sound, and it lowered my iMac's sound as well.
He used that same remote to lower, raise, and do anything and everything to my iMac volume, but I haven't had any luck getting my sound back to normal.

Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.

  • Seagate Plug and Play from Macbook Pro to Macbook Air

Recently bought a new Macbook Air to upgrade my 2010 Macbook Pro 13 inch.
I had been using a Seagate Plug and Play external hardrive that needed no formatting on my Macbook Pro . However when I tried to use the same on my Macbook Air it did not allow me to drag files across the the hardrive.
I can see it in the Finder but unable to drag files to it.
I thought Plug and Play woudl across all Macs?

OS X comes with the ability to read NTFS but not write it. Some Seagate drives come with software to enable writing NTFS on that drive. You probably installed it on your 2010 MBP when you got the drive, then forgot you had done so. Find the software installer if it is still on the drive and run it on your MBA. (You might have to locate a newer version online.)
Alternatively, you can purchase a version that can run on any NTFS disk. I use Paragon NTFS for Mac. I initially got a limited version with a Seagate drive, then purchased the full version.

  • No sound plays from sample editor.

Hey guys, this may be a silly problem. However, if i have a section (say a snare hit) selected in the normal window it plays. However, whenever i double click on it it won't play in the sample window. Any Ideas? Thanks, Will

The little box on the left of the editor..
    It probably says "CHA 1"
Thats referring to the audiotrack used for prelistening.
It can be handy if you want to hear the sound with effects, but generally it confuses people. Maybe they should default it to a higher number in future releases.
Your selected track is probably muted..

  • Random sound generated from external midi device even without a song opened... How to uninstall external control surfaces?

    Recently bought systems used :
         Roland FA-08 workstation
Mixingtable with USB connection Yamaha MG12XU
Mac Os X 10.9.4 Maverick with Logic Pro X 10.0.7
for each system the latest usb-drivers are installed
    Problem :
I get random noises generated (non-stop) from the connected synthesizer FA08 starting up Logic, even without a song opened.
(My midi local is switched of, that's not the solution)
The problem started (i think) installing the Mackie control for the DAW use as was suggested by the Roland manual
in Logic Pro X > Control Surfaces > setup...
Other than my remote control i now have Mackie controllers that i can not remove from the setup. Right click says 'delete' but
they are not deleted, the program even crashed once. Reinstalling Logic does not remove them either.
I read somewhere that there should be a 'controller rebuild'-command but that doesn't seem to exist.
And i have no idea why in the 'inspector', the host of the Mackie Control seems to be my I-pad (?)
I suspect that te problem is either some midi/usb driver conflict when used with Mavericks
or te use of the mackie controller conflicting with
the audio-bord of the yamaha mixing console MG 12XU (which seems to be working fine) or with the DAW controller of the FA 08
Audio/Midi setup of my computer seems to be installed correctly.
How can i uninstall this controller settings ?
Anyone has an idea why i get random noise generated?
Anyhow, it is impossible working with Logic this way..
    Please help..

In case you need to get back the default Logic control surface setup you can delete the Control Surface preference file and the default file will be rebuilt. It's a good way to get back to Logic's initial control surface setting. Also, if you had chosen to edit the Logic Remote CS entry instead of remove it there are adjustments that can be made, like disabling Active Sensing, or even disabling "Flash Mute and Solo Buttons" on the basic Control Surface Preferences pane.
Deleting the Logic 10 Control Surface Prefs.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences  in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
Note: to get to the User-Library the tilde ~ has to be included.        ~/Library/Preferences

  • Sound Distortion from Macbook Pro 2.33ghz

Hey, within the last couple of months I have been having some problems with the sound output on my Macbook Pro, it seems that whenever the mac hits over 80 Degrees C the sound would on occasion go all distorted, you can not listen to it. It happens in videos or listen to music in iTunes.
It tends to happen a good bit! My macbook would idle at 70+ Degrees with only some programs running like firefox, netnewswire, mail and adium! So the temperature would creep up quite quickly to 80+ if I start to do anything!
Any suggestions to solve this problem? I have the Mac on a stand to keep it cool! So goodness knows what it would run at on the desk!

Yes, it appears the X1600 has more than its fair share of issues. I've seen reports of people reflowing the solder joints on/around the GPU with success, even baking the LB in the oven.
The rest is something you'll have to take up with Apple.

  • Random sound coming from iphone 5s

Twice today my iphone 5s has made a sound randomly. A sound that isn't even a choice I have to assign to any notification, etc. Can anyone tell me what my phone is trying to tell me?

Well, if you've tried everything, then there's nothing to do but to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation.

This is supposed to happen, licensing issue mean that Apple can't AirPlay protected content to other devices. You might try VLC instead of Apples built in DVD player.
