Random Sync Loss Upon Export - HELP!

So now I'm having an absolutely insane issue here.
I am cutting in a DVCPro HD 720p60 project that originated on the Panasonic P2. The video was shot at 24pn and the frame rate is 23.98.
I have finished cutting my project and despite my bizarre rendering issue which, I discovered also includes fade and dissolves (see my post "rendering issue with HD" http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=729150&tstart=30) I was able to figure a workout and finish the spot.
Now, when I export a Quicktime (with conversion AND without conversion) random clips are going out of sync with no logic or explanation. About four clips in the sequence export with the audio trailing by about 2 to 4 frames. This is crazy, right? When I watch the sequence down in the timeline, everything is fine, but when the quicktime is made, these clips lose sync. I was able to compensate by guessing the amout of frames that the audio trailed and sliping them out of sync in the timeline to compensate, but this is a massive issue.
Has anyone experienced anything like this? I can't really imagine a more frustrating problem. I feel like this has something to do with the rendering again, but I'm not sure what.

You can fix it with iMovie '06, but it's too complicated to explain in detail here. Read the documentation, or get the book 'iMovie 06 - The missing manual', which explains this stuff very nicely.
Basically, you want to go to Advanced -> Extract audio, followed by Advanced -> Unlock audio clip at playhead. Now you have the audio in a separate track, and you can drag audio and video separate from each other, until it's in sync.

  • Audio Visual Sync Issue Upon Export

    Hello All,
I am having an issue I have heard many people have but cannot get fixed using the recommended suggesstions.
I am working on a documentary piece that is about 01:52:00 in length. I want to export this project for eventual DVD burning. I am initially exporting the project:
    1. Using Quicktime Conversion
I have changed the "Movie Settings" to:
    2. MPEG-4
    3. Default "Frame Rate," and "Data Rate"
    4. Changed "Compressor Quality" to "Best"
I have changed the "Size Settings" to:
    5. HD: 1440 x 1080 16:9
    The sound settings are default:
    6. Linear PCM
    7. Stereo (L R)
    8. all clips are 48 kHz
    9. Changed Render settings "Quality" to Best.
    10. Linear PCM Settings Sample Size--16bits
Now the issue I have encountered is that the audio/video in the FCP timeline is in sync and looks great. But when I do the export the audio is about 1sec ahead of the video. I have several cuts along the piece. and this audio sync problem occurs throughout but it only comes up on the cuts. There are some clips that are in perfect sync but then there are about 1/3 to 1/2 of the clips that fall out of sync. If anyone knows what I could do to fix this I would be grateful, also I should note I am using FCP 5.

You're in the wrong forum. You need to ask your question in the Final Cut Studio forum.

  • FCP Random Sound Loss - Please Please Help Me

Please can anyone help me. I have just taken two days off work to do a friends wedding video my whole first day has been trying to work out what is going on with the sound. I have gone through all the forum pages and nothing is the same as the problem I have.
I use FCP 4. I have a movie exported movies from imovie as .dv file into FCP. When I double click it in the FCP browser I have full audio in the viewer when played. I import it into the time line no problems so far. The red bar is on the top and when I pay it I hear the beeping whichh means I need to render it. So I do the apple and r to render it. Then it is in the time line.
The problem occurs when I play the file that has just been rendered in the time line. It plays audio for up to half of the clip and then the audio is just not there. I will have done exactly the same with previous clips in the time line and they are ok. The audio will just disappear mid clip. It will be fine half way through the clip and then the audio will will just not be there.
It never seems to happen in the first 10 - 15 mins of imported video clips but after that it can just drop at any time. sometimes I have added clips after this point and they have been ok to a point and then they will drop sound mid clip as well.
If anyone can be of any help I would greatly appreciate it. I was one of the ushers at the wedding and my present to the happy couple was the movie of their wedding. So I am really up against it which is why I took a couple of days off to finish the job. But I have got no where today.
Do you think that it could be anything to do with the speed of my computer?
I tried FCP Rescue but this didn't make any difference.
Please please help me. I would be in your debt if you can help me out.
    Thanks
    Jon

    Jon:
Your configuration is a little low on RAM, but the processor(s) are certainly fast enough to handle this file. You should match your sequence to the audio sample rate from your original clip. Single click on your original clip in the FCP browser. Then "Command" (Apple Key) + "9". This will bring up a window with details about the clip. Look for the "Aud Rate" and "Aud Format" information. Your audio rate should be 48kHz or 44.1 kHz. Doesn't really matter what it is, just make a note of it. Close that info window. Now activate your sequence window by clicking on it once. Up in the FCP menu choose "Sequence" and then "Settings". Look for Audio "Rate" and "Depth"--they are in a separate boxed area at the bottom right. If possible, select the audio settings that match your clip. If you can, this will eliminate the need for rendering your audio. If not, rendering is your only option.
Check some of these clips with missing audio in your preview window. (Double click on the clip or Control-Click and select "Open".) Play the clip. If the audio is there, it's definitely an issue with the timeline. If not, the problem is with the clip. Try turning on the audio waveforms in the timeline. (Make sure your timeline clip icons are big enough. Select "Sequence" and "Settings" then the "Timeline Options" tab. Select Medium or Large for the Track Size, then click on "Show Audio Waveforms". Or "Option" + Command" + "W" on the keyboard.) If the audio waveforms are in the timeline, you have audio but your system is not able to keep up. Oh, and when I say "timeline" I mean "Sequence".
If you have determined that it is your system and not the clip or the sequence, then finish editing the project if you can. When you are done export a "Final Cut Movie"--make sure it is "Self Contained". Play that movie in QuickTime Player to be sure your audio is fine.

  • Color loss upon export

I started using Final cut Pro 6 in the last few months. I noticed the last two short movies I've made seem to loose color by about 20% - looking washed out...when I export in H264, DV NTSC, uncompressed 8 bit, - the only thing that works is animation or none and those files are too large to burn onto one disk. I tried an AVI and it is pretty pixilated. I haven't tried Mpeg4 - trying that now. Has anyone had trouble with retaining color quality and is there anything I can do about it?
    Thanks, Michelle

    Hey Michelle
I think though what you maybe seeing is a gamma correction taking place to allow for the different screen gammas, most PC's run at a higher gamma than a mac, really we should encode video for Mac and PC separately, Mac 1.8 PC 2.2, what looks good on a mac will look dark on a typical PC and creating something for a PC then looking at it on a Mac it will appear washed out.
    hopefully not too long winded.

  • Catalog partially and randomly synced with disc. Have to find and sync A LOT.  Help!  :(

I am just getting started with LR4.  After installation, the catalog is only partially and randomly synced with my hard drive. (Windows 7)  It seems I have to find and sync way too many files.  There are some files which don't appear in the catalog at all.  So I uninstalled and reinstalled the program and the problem is the same.  Did I miss something or do I have a corrupt program?  Can I find and sync my entire pictures file at once?

Well, that's a clear indication that the files in question indeed are alreaday somewhere in your catalog; Lightroom is usually right about that. They might not be in the place you expect them to be though.
You might want to look carefully through the folder structure in Lightroom and see if there are any strange folders you don't remember creating.
One thing that might have happened during one of the imports is that instead of choosing 'add' in the import window, you had 'copy' selected. When doing that, files end up in the place defined in the right hand column of the import window. Depending on what was selected (or what was there as default), LR has created a folder e.g. with the date of the pictures as name, inside an other folder, etc.
I encountered this kind of problem myself. An example of what happened:I have my files in folders named by date, in hierarchical year-month-day structure. Using the 'Import' function, I wanted to 'add' the '2011-05-12' to my '2011-05' folder, but erroneously selected 'copy'. Due to the selection I made last time I 'copied' files on import, the folder ended up in the folder '2011-04' - which I didn't notice at first. After the import, I couldn't find the 2011-05-12 folder, and when trying to import the whole 2011 folder with all of its subfolders, it told me that there are no pictures to import as all were already in the catalog. Like in your case, only unchecking 'don't include suspected duplicates' let me see the missing files.
So try to see if you can find folders where they shouldn't be or folders with unusual names. If that's the case, remove them from the catalog, and your problems will disappear.

  • Upon export, audio and video are out of sync.

While editing, my cuts are lined up with beats in the music, but after export they shift approximately 5 frames, making my cuts appear later.
The Sequence settings match the clip settings at 23.976 fps, and i've tried just about everything I can think of to fix the issue.
I've reverted back to previous Autosaves of the project, tried numerous export settings, separate and new projects, different machines, but nothing seems to work.
At this point I'll take any and all suggestions.

Please UN-check the "Frame Blending" box, that is only used when changing frame rates. The source and export are both 23.976, so that can only cause issues (blurring between frames with motion). Also uncheck "Max Render Quality", that is used for SCALING, such as 1080 to 720, or HD to SD. Your source and destination are both 1080p.
Rule of thumb - do NOT check boxes unless you really know what they do and the results they provide - the DEFAULT settings are there for a reason ;-)
Also, I never use "Match Source" - rather, figure out where the video is going (Blu-ray, web, device, etc.) and find an appropriate PRESET - there are tons of them under "H.264".
I'm assuming the video source is also 23.976? If source doesn't match sequence settings, that can be an issue with sync.
Try exporting entire sequence rather than In to Out. Try EXPORT rather than Queue.
Last thing, what is the source of the video footage? Some phones use "Variable Bitrate" recording and Premiere is not equipped to deal with that very well.

  • Audio drops and cracks and odd sounds upon export...

working on CS4, on my mac powerbook.
upon exporting the audio has issues it doesn't in the project editing/CS4.
I've used crossfades, exponential fades to be specific... and even when I delete them, I have issues with clips I've never used them on.
the issue is the audio at the start of some of the clips drops low and then, after a second or two rises to the level it was set at.
I thought I was finished and only want to out put this cut to watch, make changes and be finished... I could really use some help on this... ugh.

well, I export it thru Premiere Pro CS4 and cs4 sends it to Adobe Media Encoder CS4.
I've found if I delete the fades and do it manually it seems to fix the issue... and the crackaling seems to be from the audio level hitting the red.
I'm still playing with the issue and have yet to export the entire document so I'm not sure my work arounds will work.
I'm still puzzled as this has NEVER happened before and I've used the same footage for smaller projects.

  • Weird audio out of sync problem after export

This is the second time I've run into this problem. My video and audio are in sync in my timeline, but upon export to QT, one of the clips (but ONLY one of the clips) is out of sync. I tried exporting two different times: same result.
Doesn't make sense to me. All the clips were imported from the same DV tape from my Canon HV30.
Can anyone give me some advice here?? Thanks.

How are you exporting? The first quicktime export option or quicktime conversion? What are your settings for the export?
Did you capture with device control with abort capture on dropped frames and create new clip on timecode break enabled?

  • New Address Book SYNC and ITUNES Problems- HELP!!!

When I try to tick the check box to syncornize my address book in my iPod preferences panel, I get the following message: "No contacts available- contact syncing cannot be enabled because there are no contacts available. Do you want to open Address Book and create contacts now?" When I do, Address Book opens (full of the 1100 contacts), but does not resolve the problem. Neither does deleting then reimporting the contacts, nor restoring from back up, nor Disk Warrior's rebuilding of the Directory.
Likewise, when I try to use iSync with my phones (until recently working by the way), I cannot tick the sync 'Contacts' box and then choose a phonebook, as it just gives me All Contacts as the only option. And even then, when I try to sync, I get a "sync failed" message.
These probelms started occurring after a kernal panic that happened when I connected my Sony Ericsson w800i to my computer via a USB cable. iPhoto and iTunes freaked out, but have since been restored to working order. But when I connected the new video iPod for the first time, I couldn't get it to sync with Address Book nor iCal. iCal works today, but not so the Address Book.
Yikes....if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

THANK YOU for this solution; after trying MANY things to get my addresses to sync again, this fixed my sync problem! One suggestion I would add is if you try this, be sure to check the box "sync notes when exporting vCards" (Address Book: preferences) before exporting. The first time I lost my notes, but just removed the folder again and exported with notes. I had to recreate all my groups, but a small price to pay to get my addresses syncing again to my iPod.
I think one of the address files may have become corrupt, POSSIBLY after my iPod appeared to be stuck during a sync one time, but I later discovered that there was a sync dialogue box hidden behind iTunes waiting for my response. Problems seemed to start after that.

  • When syncing my iPhone with iTunes, I get the error, "some items did not sync, see itunes for help", but can't find any helps for this in iTunes. Where can I find out what is not syncing?

When syncing my iPhone with my iPhone, I get a message that 2 items did not sync - use iTunes for help.
But I can't find any help information in iTunes at all, let alone when items are not syncing.
How do I figure out what is not syncing?

Since it seems App related, I'm not sure what to offer you.  I guess the only suggestion I have is for you to reboot your iPad and then try again.  To reboot, hold the power and home buttons at the same time for at least 10 seconds (keep holding past the swipe to shut down bar if it appears) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart.  You won't lose any settings or data, so it's worth a shot.

Can anyone help me? The iTunes update corrupted my program. I uninstalled, and then reinstalled iTunes; only to find an error message about iTunes Helper. After several fruitless, repeat attempts, I am at a loss. Please help…

    Many thanks.
With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR suitable for your PC (there's a 32-bit Windows version and a 64-bit Windows version):
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
