  • New tab opens when I click email link, this doesn't happen with IE or Chrome

    I use a specific website for work. When I click a hyperlink on the website that is supposed to generate an email, it also generates a new tab for no reason. This is a waste of time. This also doesn't happen on the same website in IE or Chrome.

    Those are extensions for Firefox. You can access the Firefox Add-ons page using one of these methods:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Extensions. On the right, enabled extensions are listed alphabetically, with disabled extensions at the bottom.
    As a general test for problems caused by any extension, the user can try the same pages/functions in Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
    You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    (Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run)
    After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Refresh).
    If the problem goes away, usually that points to an extension as the culprit.
    Bear in mind that other aspects of Safe Mode may be more relevant to display glitches (hardware acceleration) or crashes than extensions, but in this case, I'd look at extensions.

  • After upgrading I get comerical tabs opening when I click on embedded links.

    I installed firefox 28 over my existing installation. Now when I click on embedded links half the time an additional tap will open for some commercial site. Any suggestions on stopping this.

    Can you check your download history to see whether you got an unofficial installer bundle with some unwanted extras from a strange site?
    To tame the ads, try this: Disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
    Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Does that flush the extra tabs?
    If unwanted extensions lack a Remove button, this usually indicates it was installed by other software on your computer. Time to visit the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, and click "Installed on" to group by date and reveal secret bundled items you may have accepted. Probably best to remove everything recently added that you do not actually know to be useful.
    Finally, you may want to run some extra scans to mop up any lurking crap. This article lists tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
    Any luck?

  • How do I stop a new tab from opening when I click a link?

    Whenever I click a link, it opens in a new tab. This just started almost a week ago, but I didn't change any settings or click anything--it just started doing it by itself. It is extremely irritating, because it just increases the number of tabs I have.

    Okay, so I tried that, but it didn't work. Any other suggestions?

  • Multiple tabs open when I click on a file to open, like a PDF file. It open tab after tab and will not stop, any ideas?

    when I click on a PDF file in an email or other formats that open the browser it opens up tab after tab, after tab and does not stop till I close the browner down.

    It isnt a certain file type, it is all files Including word docs, excel spreadsheets, pdf's ect.. I remember Firefox asking me if I wanted to make this my default action when I clicked on a link, and I choose to make it such. I would like to change it back so I can choose whether I open/view the file or save it to my drive.

  • Why does a new tab open when I click a page on google?

    When I click on a page in Google after searching it up through there, a new tab opens with the page and the Google tab remains. This does not happen on the Mozilla start page.

    hello, this might be a preference in your google search settings. go to google.com/preferences and disable the option to ''Open search results in a new browser window''.

  • How do I stop extra instances of my Firefox home page from opening when I click on links?

    Frequently, when I click on a link in an email or on a web page, and Firefox is not yet running, not only does that linked web page open, but also an extra instance of my home page opens. I would like to prevent this from happening.

    I asked the same question on Yahoo! Answers, and I was advised to reinstall Firefox, which I have just done (with version 3.6.8). The problem seems to be solved. Prior to doing this, I attempted to uninstall my previous version, but Control Panel wouldn't let me do this, nor would Windows Explorer allow me to send the whole Mozilla Firefox folder to the Recycle Bin. I went to Plan C, which was to delete all the subfolders in the main folder, followed by the leftover files, and finally empty the Recycle bin. Then I used Internet Explorer to download the newer version of Firefox, and installed it. No more extra home pages, so far.

  • Multible tabs open when i clik a link to a new tab; then do not open or even show up when i try to close them with 'close all tabs'..they are like 'ghost tabs'

    This has been happening for several days now...the tabs are shown on the tab bar, but do not open up or close when i try to close them....when i tried 'close all tabs', which then says 'you are trying to close 2 tabs', they are not counted as being open....only way i can get rid of them is to close FireFox completely, then it starts all over again. Ghost Tabs!

  • New window opens when I click a link

    On some sites, every time I click on one of the links, a new instance of Safari opens. The same site does not do this in IE or Firefox and in latter, you have controls of how links open..new window, new tab, or force open within current window. Anyone know how to keep only one window open in Safari?

    If you want new windows to open in a new tab, instead of a new Safari window, just hold ctrl while clicking on the link. Make sure this option is enabled in Edit->Preferences->Tabs, if it doesn't work for you right off the bat. You can also do what I do, and simply right-click on the link, and select Open Link In New Tab.
    There are some other neat Tab features too, if you have multiple windows open already, you can go to Window->Merge All Windows, and all open pages are moved to Tabs in a single Safari Window.
    Conversely, you can send a Tab to a new, separate window, by going to Window->Move Tab To New Window.

  • When I click a link in a website, it loads in another tab, however i get 100's of new tabs that load with "untitled" and when i close firefox, it just opens by itself again and again

    I was on my son's school website and I was looking to click the link to his teachers personal web-page. When I did, many, many "untitled" new tabs kept opening in the same screen. In fact it did not stop until I restarted my computer.
    When I tried to close mozilla firefox page, it would then open up a new screen again doing the many, many "untitled" tabs. Every time I clicked the red X at the top of the screen, it would load a new page doing this.
    It also did this on one other web page.
    I am sure that there is just some info that needs to be entered for what to do when you click a link, however I have no clue how to change it.

    For the list of teachers there are email addresses in the right hand column, did you click on an email address?
    If you did that could explain the multiple tabs being opened. What may have happened is you have the mailto protocol set to open Firefox which results in 100s of tabs opening when you click on an email address. For details on fixing that see [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]], in particular the section on "Change the action for a content type". My guess is you will find mailto is set to "Use Firefox".

  • When I click a link on most pages, it opens in a new window/tab with just *go to a website* in the address bar.

    This happens from links in my email and links from websites. Is there a setting somewhere that I botched that hides web addresses from me?
    It however, doesn't happen every time I click a link.. strangeness.

  • Firefox no longer opens when I click on a link in my e-mail program. Worked fine until I upgraded to 10

    Mac 10.6.8, Entourage 2004

    Is there a way for me to determine where on my desktop the new web pages open when I click on links?
    Not sure if that can be done but you can press the Expose   key which will show all open windows.

  • Random tab open on page load?

    If someone could figure this one out... oooo what a gem that
    would be and good bye Flash.
    I have a tabbed menu scripted and of course on a page load
    the same tab and its content load everytime. Is it possible to have
    a random tab open when the page loads in a browser?
    Thank you in advance for your time!

    Include SpryDOMUtils.js in your header (required for onload
    listener)
    Spry.Utils.addLoadListener(function(){
    var
    tabs =
    5 //(amount of tabs u have)
    TabbedPanels1.showPanel(Math.round(
    tabs*Math.random())); //TabbedPanels1 beein the name of the
    tabwidget constructor change to your own name.

  • Firefox immediately switching to new tab even when that feature is disabled on right-click open in new tab or on ctrl+click a link. Please help.

    Firefox switches immediately to new tab or the immediate next tab if multiple tabs are open, even when the respective feature is disabled, whenever I open a link by -
    1. Right-click > open in new tab
    2. Ctrl + click a link
    Earlier it did not happen like this. It is really very annoying. Re-installation and clean installation of the latest version did not helped.
    And this is happening mainly when I am using Facebook. Earlier it never happened so with Facebook.

    I don't have the divX plug-in and I still have this problem. Why should plug-ins that are not even triggered by the affected pages alter Firefox's behavior. Feels like bad architecture.
