Random, unknown music starts playing

OK, I know this is gonna sound weird, but here's what just happened. I was sitting here with a friend talking. My MBP screensaver starts up after 15 minutes. The screensaver is Arabesque. After about another 10 minutes or so (not sure exactly) the screen goes black and music starts playing. I have no idea what music it was, but it appeared to be some sort of long drum beat loop. It's not anything that is in my iTunes Library. Very odd, this has never happened before on any of my Macs. I touch the trackpad to come out of screen saver. I look at the dock, no open apps at all, just a dot by the Finder. Music still playing. I open iTunes and play a song. Song plays, but same music plays as well. Looked at all the options in System Prefs, but nothing out of the ordinary. Command-option-escape, only the finder is open. I sleep the MBP, music stops. As soon as I wake it, music starts back up. Finally, I had to restart to get rid of it.
ANY IDEA of what the heck happened?

Who has had access to your computer? It sounds like an "easter egg" to me. The big question is "did the music start again the next time your screensaver was active for 10 Min?" Or was it just a one time thing? Look in your startup items list for any suspicious items.

At night, as soon as I plug my iphone to be recharged, my iphone starts behaving anomaly.  It is like somebody has taken control of it.  I see the screens moving, music starts playing and then stopping, etc.  I have noticed that several nights.  What I do is in Settings is to change  into Plane Mode, thinking that, may be if I do that, somebody that has taking control of it will not be able to download data.  Yesterday night, I was awakened by an alarm, whose setting I did not changed. When I looked over, the alarm screen changed to Settings and the Plane Mode changed alone in front of my eyes, from on to off.
I have not observed such a situation during the day. Only when I plug the cable.
I suspected that may be there is no Trojan installed. May be the cable, which is a spare cable, has been modified by a hacker, and it has electronics installed in the connector.  But tested with the original cable, and the behavior was the same, as described above.

    Thanks Meg for your reply.
It could be that both cable are bad. But, anyway, you would not expect any of these manifestations, even with a bad cable. I had bad cable for my 4s, and never saw such a thing!
I contacted by chat the support of Apple.  They told me that this behavior could be a software problem and recommended me to do a full recover of my iphone. That meant, putting in at the factory conditions and recup all the data from the backup.  I did that, and the behavior did not change.  The backup was made with the data of my PC, not icloud.  Tomorrow will try with icloud and check if that will work.

  • I-tunes keeps on starting spontaneously and music starts playing. How do I prevent this on my Imac.?

I-tunes keeps on starting spontaneously and music starts playing. Can anyone help me to solve this ?
    Jacques

I did restart. Didn't do a rest. Is the rest back to factory settings? Last time I did this, I lost a lot of data. I'm using the Apple headphones that came with my phone. Is there a way to reset without jeopardizing data saved?

  • Itouch randomly unpauses and starts playing music.

    Hi All,
Hopefully someone can help with this one, I've done a bit of googling and havent found anything yet so fingers crossed.
I generally listen to my Itouch at night when im in bed ready to go to sleep, press pause button and then press the button to turn the screen off.
    so far so good,
at some point the next day (havent been able to nail down an exact time yet) the itouch will suddenly start playing music randomly ie not the tune or even album i was listening to the night before. although that might be because ive only noticed it playing a good while after it started.
only way i've found to fix it is to turn it off completely, which is obviously a pain in the bum and would like to know why it does it.
    anyone got any ideas?
    thanks in advance
    nOm

I just got my iPod touch 32GB 3rd gen for graduation, an mine is doing the exact same thing. I'll pause it to go bed or watch a movie, and suddenly it will start playing music. The only way I've found that it will not do this is to just unplug your headphones before going to sleep. That somehow works. And exit out of your music app to just the regular home page. That's just a home remedy. I really want to find out what's up as well.

  • After updating my MACbook pro music started playing and I can't get it to stop

I need help getting the music to stop playing on my macbookpro. It started playing after I updated

Try quitting all open applications, if it is still playing click GO in the menu bar and select Utilities, or SHIFT+COMMAND+U from the Finder window, then open Activity Monitor .app make sure it says All processes in the drop down and click the column says CPU see what is running, it should be using the most cpu if everything else is closed and be at or near the top of the list. Highlight it and click the quit process.

  • My music starts playing randomly?

I have an iPhone 5. When i have my headphones in , my phone would randomly start music from either the phone or Pandora.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Music starts playing in the middle of a song

u have tried everything that i can think of. taking all of the music off and putting it back on, the little check mark box in options right on itunes, everything...
please help me this is really upsetting me it is really annoying to have your songs always start in the middle or wherever you left it last...

well, if you have the remember playback position checkbox checked, it will resume the song from the last point you were playing it at. try turning that option off and see what happens.
also, in the same area as the option above, what are the start and end times for the songs? if start time is not 0:00, it will not start from the beginning...

  • When I import a folder into my library, music starts playing and I can't stop it.

So, I haven't used iTunes in years.
I'm just wondering if this is the same for everyone, of if I've just done something wrong.
Brand new install of the latest version of iTunes (11.3.1) - Open it up, use the "Import folder" option to import a folder into my library.
    It's a large (over 200gb) folder.
As it's importing, for some reason, iTunes starts to play the first few seconds of each album that gets imported.
But, because the "Importing.." dialogue window is open, I can't hit "pause" or "stop".
So, my computer is just sitting here playing the first few seconds of many many songs whilst importing. I can turn down the volume to stop it, but I'm just wondering -
Is this normal? Seems a little odd and strange.

Generally setting a common Album Artist will fix things.

  • Music starts playing at call end and on Bluetooth connection.

Can anyone offer any tips to the battery draining problem of my Iphone 5 playing music all by it's self. This mainly happens when its connected to the cars Bluetooth and you dont hear the music or when you end a call. I've spoken to my fellow workers who have Iphone and a couple have the same problem. Any ideas or fixes would be great.

    Thanks Meg for your reply.

  • IPhone 4 - My music randomly starts playing

My phone will be off and then all of a sudden my music starts playing. It can either be my itunes music or pandora. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?

I have the same issue but with my ipad. Anyone know why this happens or how to stop it? It's quite embarrasing since it starts playing in the middle of class or when out running errands.

  • IPad randomly started playing music

No joke. I was watching a video on Netflix, and this music started playing. I thought it was a part of the show until it played through the  intro of the series. So I hit the home button and it stopped. It hasn't done it again but it was creaking strange. It wasn't even a song I own. It was piano instrumental. This happen to anyone else???

I can't figure out how you started music playing.
In silent mode, iPhone doesn’t ring or play alerts and other sound effects. However, clock alarms, audio apps such as iPod, and many games still play sounds through the built-in speaker when iPhone is in silent mode.

  • ITunes opens, starts playing music

Okay, running OSX 10.7.1 with iTunes 10.4.1. I'll be watching televlsion and notice music playing and it's iTunes which has gone from not being opened to opening and playing whatever playlist was last played. The one plug-in that I have is SRS iWow but have that for quite a long time and never had any issues until fairly recently. It stopped for a couple of days but the gremlins are at work again and I came home once again to find music playing. Love Apple but this is not good so any suggestions as to what to do and what would cause this?

I had the same situation, I realized it only happened when I had my earphones plugged in.
The following post seemed most relevant in my case, and I felt it may be of some help here:
Post by Morgulator @ Direct Link to Post (MacRumors Forums)
    Speaker Jack
This problem is related to the microswitch located at the very bottom inside the speaker jack. Whenever you get this problem, make sure your speaker cable is fully inserted into the speaker jack. Even the slightest depress on the microswitch can create interference, causing itunes to start and random songs to start playing. I also recommend bringing your computer to an apple store and getting the speaker jack cleaned, since dust or other contaminants can cause this issue. They can also make sure that nothing is wrong with your microswitch. A friend of mine had to have his motherboard replaced due to a faulty microswitch. This is covered by warrantee as long as your mac isn't too old to be covered.
Microswitch is the Key Word here.
I think plugging in an Apple earpiece jack may be the answer, for those who're encountering the issue whilst using earphones or speakers.

  • My iphone starts playing music when I'm not even touching the phone

My iphone 4 starts playing music when the phone is in my purse and I'm not touching it or even going through my purse. I've tried making sure the ipod is not set to a song but rather to a menu screen when I close it. Sometimes I haven't even used the ipod recently. My phone also calls people when I'm not touching it. Does anyone else have this problem? It must be something I'm doing but I can't figure out what it could be. I'd appreciate any help!

Mine plays music when I have the iPhone 4 in my pocket and bend over a little, I know that kinda 'scrunches' the phone slightly but no other iPhone I've had ever did this and I've treated them all the same. I'll be walking along, pick up something and then the music starts playing. I don't touch anything, never attach headphones, basically the phone is asleep but somehow something triggers the music to start playing. I've entered this as a separate thread but no one seems to know why this happens. I suppose I could take the phone back and exchange it for a new one, but it would be better to know what is causing this.

  • ITunes app starts playing on its own

Hi! I am running an iPad mini 3 as I just upgraded from an iPad mini two weeks ago. I kept both iPads up-to-date with all software from Apple. But just before I upgraded, both the iPad mini and now my new iPad mini 3  started playing iTunes music with the app closed completely! I can be driving in my car with a car stereo that is not Bluetooth listening to music and all of a sudden my iPad, that is laying on the passenger seat while I drive starts playing music!!! It can either be from my library or the ITunes radio. So I hit the home button twice so that I can find the app and slide it up to close it and it's not even open!!!!   I have to actually open iTunes so that I can slide it up and close it so it will stop playing music. But randomly it will start playing music again!!  To me this sounds like a big bug. I am running the latest version of iTunes.
I spent an hour and a half on the phone with an Apple support rep a week ago Monday. In the end the only thing she could suggest was that I have my Bluetooth option turned on in Settings on the iPad and that was why it started playing my music . However I turned Bluetooth off which was linked to a Bluetooth speaker on my visor for phone calls. I also turned off the Motorola Bluetooth and even with it off, the music just randomly starts playing like it has a poltergeist affiliation!!
I was trying to find a place to report this bug but I'm just gonna post it here so if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them!  I have upgraded to  IOS 8.3 now and it's still doing it.  It's really really annoying! I can't even hear my Waze app reports on traffic  because the music drowns it out.
    Thanks!
    Jeannie
P.S.  Another thing that I spent an hour on a separate call with support for was that when you slide the control section up from the bottom of the home screen there was no lock whatsoever to change the orientation of my camera. It kept staying in portrait mode and would not take a picture horizontally!!  They have changed the location and how you set your lock rotation for horizontal versus vertical. While on that one hour support call it was actually me that finally figured out the issue.
In General under Settings there is an option for the slide switch. The options are lock rotation or mute. Mine was on mute because one would think if you have mute selected that means you're not going to hear any notifications or if you're using the phone app you're not going to hear the phone ring. So I did not want my sounds muted  so I selected lock rotation. In hind sight it actually says the slide lock will mute.  But it can easily be assumed to novices such as myself with Apple products (because I'm new to them) that it's going to mute all sounds when that option is checked whether or not you slide the switch. While on that phone call with support I selected mute instead and then my camera finally rotated the way I wanted when I went to take a picture. I think there should be a better explanation for users as to what  mute versus lock rotation will actually do.  And my sounds were not muted because I didn't slide the slide switch on the top of the iPad.  It even didn't make sense to the support rep!!! Just FYI

If you were listening to the iheartradio app when you received the call then it will pause the music during the call and resume playing when the call is finished.

  • Blank, white screen but music still playing! Help!!!!!!!!

I've had my iPod Video (30G) for about 5 months. For some reason, today when I switched it on, the screen lighted up but it was completely white and blank. I clicked some random buttons and music started playing. I waited for the battery to run out, and then recharged it on my PC for a while. When I switched it on, the screen was still blank but music could still be played! I tried resetting it by holding MENU and SELECT but it's still broken.
    HELP!

Maybe try restoring your ipod. Plug in your ipod, go to the updater through the start menu, and then, once it has recognized your computer, click on the restore button.
Caution: this will remove all songs from your iPod, requiring you to re-sync your iPod with your computer.
    hope this helps..
