Random volume change on midi track during

Hey guys! For some reason a random midi track will just all of a sudden increase to max on volume while play back and I haven't got any automation on it at all. I have tried unplugging the midi and in again but still won't solve the problem. Anyone know how to fix this??
I have been searching for this answer and still haven't found anything.
Is this a bug in logic pro? This used to happen with my Logic 8 and I just recently upgraded to Pro thinking this won't happen but it's doing my head in!!!
Please please help!!

OK, you say all sorts of things, but frankly none of it is very clear or concise. What is needed here is evidence. So first select any track on which this happens, select the regions of that track, open the Event list (key: E) and make a screenshot of that event list. This to exclude that you already have recorded these volume control messages. If you have and you don't want them, click on the Notes button top of the event list, this hides all notes, making it easier to select all volume events and delete those.
Second, when it starts to happen, hit cmd-8, an Environment window opens. In this window, go to the dropdown top left and choose Click & Ports. In that layer/window you'll see a MIDI monitor object. Are there any events shown in it? Click in it to clear it, and see if cc 7 (volume) control messages start coming in. They move you faders.
You most likely have a MIDI controller with a wobbly slider or panpot or other hardware thingy that is sending out those Volume control messages aka CC 7.
"unplugging and in again" I take it means you have unplugged it and immediately replugged it, as a sort of "reset"? That will not help in this case, it would help if you'd unplugged it and observed what (didn't) happen when you did. I bet the problem clears up then, again pointing to the hardware as the culprit.
You can do that still: unplug your MIDI equipment, and see if it still happens. My bet: it won't.
If the hardware is to blame, the best solution is to get better hardware, or get it fixed, or filter out the volume messages in the environment, or in the prefs.

  • Logic randomly dragging midi tracks during autopunch

hi, can't figure out what i'm doing wrong here.  logic seems to be moving my tracks over a bar or two when i autopunch midi tracks.  i must be hitting some shortcut by accident or maybe it's a setting.  can someone tell me what i'm probably doing wrong?
    thanks in advance,

  • Random volume changes!

    Hi,
The volume on certain tracks suddenly change without automation being present on the track... I've even caught the volume changing slightly and quickly while nothing is playing. (ie. track 13 for example would quickly be jumping from -6.1 to -2.4 while nothing is playing)
Has anyone esle seen this? It seems be to a bug that i've noticed since Logic 7.2 but its still happening with v8.
    Any help appreciated!
    Thanks

Is it possible you've got a midi controller assigned to track volume and it's causing the issue?

  • Random volume increases on midi channels

    Hi all.
In the last week, when playing back songs while looping a section, the track volume jumps up to near 0db and sometimes beyond. This only happens on the currently selected Midi, it doesn't happen on audio tracks.
There is no automation on the tracks and it happens completely randomly, but to give you an idea of the frequency of the occurence, during a 30 min session, it can happen anthing between once and 15 times !!
The indicator on the Transport bar says 7 when it happens as if it has detected midi info from the midi keyboard, so I switched the midi keyboard off and played the song looped while clicking on tracks. It happened again. so it can't be the midi keyboard that is sending rogue messages to Logic .. unless it is my MOTU Midi Timepiece that is doing it.
    Any suggestions ??
    Thanks

Seems to have fixed the issue .. not sure what else that setting may affect inadvertantly though !!
Note: The Project Settings Input Filter is "GLOBAL" so it will filter all CC messages!
My suggestion is to patch a transformer object between the Logic Physical Input & the Sequencer and set the Transformer template to "Filter matching events" -> Status Control-> Data Byte 1 =7.

  • Volume changes up and down during all solng

Every time I listen to songs, the volume goes up and down and up and down again.. Anyone know why - and more important, how to fix it? Thanx..Anne

I have observed this effect on all systems I have run on with the exception of my work computer (running windows 7). Even on my laptop (also windows 7) as well as my home pc (ubuntu) -- this effect is noticable. I have the premium membership and always felt this was a spotify issue because no other programs experience this effect.
I originally thought it was a priority issue. Setting spotify to HIGH or realtime priority had no effect. I attempted all other solutions on this thread and the effect is still very noticable. I suspect spotify limits bandwidth during times of high volumes of data transfer. My suspicion suggests to me that they vary bandwidth and therefore the audio quality of your playback. Youtube, netflix, pandora, and other streaming media companies are known to do this with media quality.
Software is developed by companies to detect your network capabilities, and scale the quality of your media based on these factors. When your connection is terrible, or your bandwidtch drops, the quality ofy our media automatically adjusts and scales in a manner that appears to be diredtly proportional to your networks attributes.
My assumption is that at work (windows 7), our T1 line is so fast that bandwidth is never an issue -- so audio quality is always the best. When I take it home, due to router limitations and ISP limitations, my connection is not nearly as reliable and consistent.
These are my suspicions and I am very technologically literate, and have done much research into coming up with a solution to this issue. I feel it outrageous and offensive that I can purchase premium membership and pay a monthly fee to have my media quality automatically adjusted based on network attributes. The option to pause for 10 seconds to buffer the song would be preferable over lisening to a song that varies tremendously in volume.
Spotify, I love the concept of your service, but it appears your money saving techniques effect the quality of the experience your a providing - and people will know.

  • How to change the key of a MIDI track

There has to be an easy answer for this.
I have a Midi drum loop that I am using. I have changed the instrument so instead of the MIDI notes playing through a drum synth it is using one of logic's piano software instruments.
What I am trying to do is change the KEY of this loop. It seems to only play in C. If I go to the piano roll, copy all the notes of the loop and move the notes up or down, I was thinking I should be able to alter the key/chord that the loop is playing. However, no matter what I do, the loop still seems to be in C.
What is going on? And what can I do to easily change the key of this loop?

How is Space Designer keeping the MIDI track in the same key of C
I have no idea. I would normally think that such a thing is not possible.
What is the instrument? What happens if you create a new track, and load this instrument, and create a new midi region, and load SD? Same problem? What about if you do this in a new project? Same problem?

  • Does "Export all tracks as audio files" output HyperDraw volume changes?

Does "Export all tracks as audio files" output HyperDraw volume changes?
    Thanks

I'm pretty sure it just collates all the Regions on each Track to give one file per Track. This would imply that automation would not be included.
To be certain, you could make up a quick Project with one Region & an automated fade, & see what happens; but I would bet you just get the audio, not the automation.

  • I've imported some midi tracks, used the mixer to set pan, volume etc, but when I stop playback and restart it sets every midi track back to '0'. I've been using LE for years, this is a new one, any ideas?

    Hi,
that's because Logic reads the volume information out of the imported MIDI tracks and sets the volume fader according to this information. The MIDI information overrides volume settings you have done, so you have to identify the MIDI events that contain volume (or expression or pan or whatever) information and delete them. You can use the event list editor for this.

  • Change volume for whole audio track

    Hi gang,
I feel like I am missing something obvious ...
I have a stereo background noise that recurs across my sequence. It is pasted into audio tracks A13 and A14 with crossfades between each occurrence. I want to fade the volume of all of them at the same time (i.e. all of the audio clips pasted into A13 and A14). If I select all of them by dragging a box using the mouse, it does not set the volume for all of the clips, only the last
How do you change the volume for a whole track?
    Cheers!

whats more, had you already manually adjusted some clips but not others and then wanted to adjust all the clips to the same level regardless of your previous adjustment then there's really no need to remove levels attributes, or redit etc etc ... you just follow the same steps posted above, choosing "Absolute" as the Gain adjustment - all clips regardless of previous levels will be set to the absolute level you specify.

  • Midi tracks changing pitch when un frozen

Whats up, is this a known problem and I am unaware. I had every midi track on 6 songs do the same thing upon unfreezing. All went up a half step sharp. Steve Cooley

Aah, yes of course! That would be why...
    Thanks for the help.

  • Recordable Volume Change Control Number?

Does any one know the midi control number that Garageband 09 uses to record volume changes on a software instrument track?
I'm not talking about the standard Midi control number 7 for volume - this only controls the left-right fader in the track header and Garageband does not record volume changes to this fader.
There's a value from 1 to 127 that will record volume changes as a part of the track itself. Does anyone know what that number is? Or does anyone have the table for all the control numbers that Garageband uses, or can anyone provide a link to such a table of such control numbers?
    Thanks.

  • How do you change the midi channels of a region?

Lets say i have a region recorded on midi channel 1, how do I change the notes to be midi channel 2? Thanks

    Depends.
First of all, are you talking about a MIDI region or an Audio region (Audio regions can "be on a MIDI channel", so to speak, if they contain controllers, i.e., volume, pan, etc.).
So let's say you're talking about MIDI regions for now.
The first order of business is to recognize that the actual channel of the MIDI events contained in the region is determined primarily by the MIDI channel that your controller is sending on. For simplicity sake, let's say your controller sends on channel 1, and the track you're recording on is set to play MySynth on channel 1.
If you're wanting to change the channel from 1 to 2, chances are you want to do this to assign this part to play a different sound on a multi-timbral synth. Let's say that the MySynth object -- as seen in the Environment -- is indeed a multi-timbral synth. If the synth selected for that track is currently assigned to play MySynth 1 (i.e., channel 1), just change it to MySynth 2 (from the track's menu).
Now, if you opened the Event Editor, you'd see that the channel of the MIDI data is still on channel 1! This is normal. Logic is able to "channelize" the data when you select a destination instrument that is on a different MIDI channel from the one that the data was recorded on. So if your track is now set to play MySynth 2, you can go into the Event Editor all day and change the MIDI channel of the data, but it will still be channelized to channel 2 because that track is assigned to play MySynth on channel 2.
There are many many reasons why you might still want to change the MIDI channel of the data in the Event Editor despite the channelizing that goes on. But without going into a whole shpiel about these kinds of applications, just know that the primary way to change the MIDI channel is to select an instrument on the desired MIDI channel.

  • Silencing effects mid track?

    Hi
Let me preface this question by saying that I'm so new to Garageband that if I passed it in the street I'd probably think it was Safari.
Nevertheless, I've managed to work out the basics of laying down tracks, editing, etc., by playing around with the stored beat loops and pluggin them into different software instruments. But there is one thing I can't figure out.
For one track I've set the instrument as "Guitar - Big Electric Lead", which uses a bunch of effects, including chorus, echo and reverb. This produces an incredible sound when you play the "RnB Beat 09" through it -- incredible if you happen to like (as I do) borderline industrial noise. The thing is, once the instrument track plays the loop, the chorus and reverb effects continue.
I cannot figure out a way of silencing the "hangover" (as it were). I've tried manipulating he volume curve, but it does not affect the volume of the effects hangover. I've also tried record "silence" over the track (i.e. by starting recording from the point I want the effects to finish but playing nothing); unfortunately, though, if you don't play a note, no region is recorded.
Is there a solution to my problem? A search of the forums has thrown up what looked like solutions here:

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2544483
Each of these relies, however, on manipulating the volume, which doesn't work in the case of these specific effects.

You cannot manipulate the dry/wet ratio of an effect during playing (the dry signal is the unprocessed signal, the wet signal is the processed signal). What you can do, is have dry track and one wet track and change the balance between them using the volume controls.
So, you start with the wet track at 100% volume, and the dry track at 0%. At the moment you want to change from wet to dry, you turn the volume for the wet track to 0 and the dry one up.
You can do that with more than two tracks as well, thus creating strange mixes of effects changing while the music is playing.
Note that both tracks need to be perfectly aligned...

  • No output from recorded audio tracks, only midi tracks..please help

I've been working on a song in Garageband and suddenly lost audio from real instruments and can only hear the midi from last night until today.  It consists of 3 midi tracks and 9 audio tracks.  I have software plugins or FX on almost all 9 tracks with amplitube or similar.  Things are slow as the arrow is red at the top, however last night I was able to still make changes - slowly.  I was able to do a mixdown and export to mp3.  Then I shut the computer down.  Today I open up Garageband and can only hear the midi tracks of my song however other songs I have work totally fine.  Nothing is muted and I've checked everything.  Levels meters are moving on all the tracks, I can just feintly hear one guitar track.  This is frustrating. I even tried locking half of the tracks and still nothing.  I've rebooted etc and same
I'm running Lion with a TC Konnekt 8 sound module, on a 2.4 core duo 2 MBP with 4 GB of ram

I ran onyx and did a clean up etc then rebooted, loaded GB and same problems.  I turned on the ducking thing, everything looked ok and then once I hit play everything worked again.  I've turned off ducking and it still works.  Could this be a glitch as I've never enabled it before

  • How do I create multiple midi tracks each with separate external synthesizer sound

Mac Pro OS 10.10.2, Logic Pro 10.1.1, FireFace 800 (updated), Roland XP-30 synthesizer/keyboard, Mackie mixer.
XP-30 analog output to Mackie, FireFace monitor to FireFace main inputs and FireFace out to Mackie.
What I can't get to work: Sound output for monitoring as I record on each of several midi tracks, each with access to my banks/programs.
Logic automatically set up the multi-instrument and created 16 tracks, visible in the mixer window. I have entered custom banks for the XP-30 and they are working.
Mt problem is two parts. First, my last experience was with Logic Pro 7 way back.
Problem two is that when I create midi tracks (except for the first one I created on channel 1) by control-clicking on one of the tracks in the mixer window I get no sound for monitoring. I can see the green monitor indicator for the track shows midi data incoming. I just can't hear it. It's as if there is no designated output. I have checked audio preferences and see the FireFace as input and output device. If i change the channel to channel 1, I get the sound, but then I have two tracks on channel 1 which doesn't work for designating unique sounds to each track.
I can select "All" for channel and get monitored sound on several tracks; however, they then all play the same sound, of course.
i can create midi tracks (either instrument or external) using the plus icon, but no matter how i set them up that way, they do not allow me access to my banks/programs.
In logic Pro 7 it was no problem creating multiple midi tracks, each with a different sound assigned to it. In Logic Pro 10, I am baffled regarding how to accomplish this and get it all to work as simply and nicely as I was able to with #7.
    Make sense? Can anyone help?
    Thanks

I have it set to Performance mode which according to the owners manual: "This mode makes the XP-30 function as a multitimbral sound
source, and Performance settings can be modified. If you’re
using an external MIDI device to control the XP-30 in this
mode, it will function as a multitimbral sound source."
