Random Window Closing When Using Color Labels

Any help appreciated.
When using color labels, every 2nd or 3rd time I set a color, the finder window I'm working in closes by itself. When I reopen a new window, it puts you back at the top level, and I have to re-drill down to where I was. This happens whether or not any apps are open.
Using OS 10.4.8, pretty sure it's the latest version. I have almost no software on this machine - it's a dedicated music computer. I use labels extensively, and this never happened on my old G5 or Powerbook (both with 10.4.8). So far I'm attributing it to the Mac Pro.
Mac Pro/2x2.66 Dual-Core Mac OS X (10.4.8) 4GB RAM
Mac Pro/2x2.66 Dual-Core   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   4GB RAM

Create a new account, name it "test" and see how color labels work in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.) This account is just for test, do nothing further with it.
Open System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" make it an admin account.
Let us know and we'll troubleshoot this further.

  • Internet explorer keeps closing when using SOD

    Hi, we are using IE6 SP2 on Windows XP Professional. We are experiencing IE closing when using SOD on some machines. The other machines using SOD on the same IE and OS versions are working perfectly fine. We even experienced the situation where we bought 3 new notebooks with the same build; IE on 1 notebook keeps closing whereas the other 2 are fine. We tried upgrading JRE version and even that didn't work. The IE problem happens on all SOD pods and not limited to 1.
    If anyone has experienced this before and found a resolution, pls share it with me as it's long overdue and users refuse to signoff on UAT.
    Thanks in advance..

    I believe the problem is with the notebook not withthe SCOD. Why shoudn't you try out reinstalling your IE on notebook or try run some antivirus as it may be happening because of some virus. I also faced same issue and got resolved by reinstalling IE. I was using IE 7
    All teh best.

  • How to get a report "closed" when using the ReportViewerBean

    I read the article /people/ted.ueda/blog/2008/12/20/crystal-reports-for-eclipse--ensuring-report-cleanup from Ted Ueda regarding cleaning up reports for the RAS server.  However, I'm trying to figure out how to get this accomplished for a thick client accessing a local rpt file and then displaying that file using the ReportViewerBean.  I can't seem to get the report closed. I tried the dispose() techniqe from the article, but with no success.
    My basic process is:
    1) Press button on main frame to open and set up report
    2) Pass open report (via ReportClientDocument) object to the viewer frame class (which views report in separate window using ReportViewerBean)
    3) Close viewer window when done, destroy ReportVieweBean and close ReportClientDocument
    4) Press button again on main frame later to view report
    If I set up the report but skip the step of sending the report to the viewer frame, ReportClientDocument.isOpen() will go from true to false after I execute just  the ReportDocumentClient.close() command.  However, if open the viewer frame, I cannot get the report closed.
    In the window closing event for my viewer window I have:
    public void quit() {
                try {
                    CrystalReportViewer crv1 = new CrystalReportViewer();
                    crv1.setReportSource(reportClientDoc.getReportSource());
                    reportViewer.destroy();  //this is a ReportViewerBean
                    reportClientDoc.close();  //this is a ReportClientDoc
                    crv1.dispose();
                    //the following is always true
                    System.out.println("ReportClientDoc.isOpen: " + reportClientDoc.isOpen());
                    this.dispose();
                catch(ReportSDKException ex) {
                    ex.printStackTrace();
                catch(ReportSDKExceptionBase ex) {
                    ex.printStackTrace();

    The webservices you are trying to use are not the ones used for enterprise, they are used for non-enterprise applications accessing reports that are stored in a specific location on the web server.
    Here are samples that use our Enterprise SDK:

  • Cursors are not closed when using Ref Cursor Query in a report  ORA-01000

    Dear Experts
    Oracel database 11g,
    developer suite 10.1.2.0.2,
    application server 10.1.2.0.2,
    Windows xp platform
    For a long time, I'm hitting ORA-01000
    I have a 2 group report (master and detail) using Ref Cusor query, when this report is run, I found that it opens several cursors (should be only one cursor) for the detail query although it should not, I found that the number of these cursors is equal to the number of master records.
    Moreover, after the report is finished, these cursors are not closed, and they are increasing cumulatively each time I run the report, and finally the maximum number of open cursors is exceeded, and thus I get ORA-01000.
    I increased the open cursors parameter for the database to an unbeleivable value 30000, but of course it will be exceeded during the session because the cursors are increasing cumulatively.
    I Found that this problem is solved when using only one master Ref Cursor Query and create a breake group, the problem is solved also if we use SQL Query instead of Ref Query for the master and detail queries, but for some considerations, I should not use neither breake group nor SQL Query, I have to use REF Cursor queries.
    Is this an oracle bug , and how can I overcome ?
    Thanks

  • Random Connection Closed Errors using UCP

    Hey All;
    I am trying to figure out why we are seeing quite a few random connection closed errors in our applications that are using Oracle UCP ver 11.2.0.1.0 connection pooling.
    The errors happen at arbitrary jdbc usage source code locations (e.g.: spots that check a connection's auto commit mode, spots that spool through a result set, spots that do yada..) that consume a connection, and are not affiliated with what is being done with the connection (SQL being ran).
    The architecture is Tomcat 7, hitting Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 (RAC). The structure of the code (it's a web app) is such that we have a servlet filter that assigns a http request thread a connection from the pool on an incoming request, then that same connection is closed at the completion of that request's handling. No code uses connections other than code related to handling an http request. And, no threads are spawned off of that request handling thread. And, no code whatsoever (other than the servlet filter's finally block) ever closes a DB connection.
    Also, the number of connections in the pool is quite adequate for the usage of the pool. That is, the ceiling is likely never hit. Even if it were---- having an outstanding connection suddenly 'closed out' wouldn't be the proper behavior there.
    What are the things that can cause a connection to be 'closed out from under you' ? Meaning, the connection is valid when taken from the pool, but arbitrarily in the middle of usage--- it gets closed.
    I am pretty stumped at this point.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks--

    Here are a few sample stacks. Keep in mind that the line of code where the exception actually happens is arbitrary. We see the exception happen at ANY line that is a consumer of a connection. For example... it could happen that it blows up on the 'Nth' iteration while trucking through a result set. Suddenly at say... iteration 143 the connection is suddenly closed out from under the connection's handle.
    As far as threads are concerned, each http request that creates a controller servlet instance is assigned it's own connection to use through the handling of that request. That connection instance is assigned as a ThreadLocal instance. Any DB usage that thread has is via that connection. The servlet filter ensures the handle is assigned when the request comes in, then is cleaned up as that request is completely handled in the same filter's finally block (this is a pattern that dozens of web apps we have have been using for going on 10 years now). This is not an ejb app. Straight Tomcat 7 web app using MVC pattern where C is a servlet.
    The curious thing here in my mind is that we only have two apps in our collection that are using this new UCP pooling driver (most other are using a tomcat pool). And, only those two are seeing this behavior.
    I am not balking at the threads concern--- it's just hard to square that with how we handle threading in such a 'single thread per http request' manner.
    And, if it were the case that the pool is handing out the same connection handle to more than one thread because of having multiple entrant threads to the pool accessor method---- it's difficult to buy that it's that common for us to have multiple entrant threads at the same moment in those very short time span it takes for a pool to hand out a connection (given the traffic usage pattern for the app).
    Here are the 'known deltas' I am aware of between the two apps that have this behavior, and the couple of dozen we have that do not:
    1) these two apps are on Tomcat 7 (most others are Tom 5, Resin, or JBoss)
    2) these two apps are using the Ora UCP pool. (most others use Tomcat pool)

  • Yoga 13 - On-screen Keyboard Randomly Popping Up When Using Physical Keyboard?

    While in laptop mode, and typing on the built-in physical keyboard or a keyboard attached via USB, the on-screen keyboard will randomly pop up, taking away focus (particularly noticeable when using extended desktop on an external display) and eating up half of the screen real estate.  As soon as I press the next key on the physical board, the on-screen keyboard minimizes itself.  Sometimes it will pop up when I'm not even touching the laptop!
    Anyone else experience this and/or know how to stop it?  It's the only thing about this machine that drives me absolutely nuts.  It seems to be random.  I can't pin it down and haven't found any similar reports via Google search.
    Thanks in advance.

    Disabling "OnScreen Keyboard (Lenovo Transition)" stopped it.  The solution is good enough for me, as I don't need the keyboard to pop up on its own anyway.  It'll pop up when I tap in a text-entry box, and that's all that matters.
    Attempts to calibrate the screen were unsucecssful.  I can't say whether or not a screen calibration will stop the random pop-up issue because every time I calibrated the screen, it broke the right-side screen swipe that reveals the Charms Menu.  Resetting the screen calibration was the only way I could find to restore the right-side swipe function. This is quite unfortunate because, regardless of the fact that it broke my Charms swipe, my touchpoints were FAR more accurate after the calibration than before.
    So now I have another problem.  I can't calibrate my screen for optimum accuracy without losing the convenience of the right-side swipe.
    Any ideas?

  • How to use color labels in Bridge to inform conditional treatment in PS?

    I'm trying to find a way of using the color labels in Bridge ('select', etc.) to allow conditional use in Photoshop javascript.
    So, for example, all the images tagged with red will be sized to 600px, while those tagged with green will be sized to 400px.
    Any ideas?

    A search of the forum for ExternalObject should find you plenty of reference…?
    You just need to load library…
    Retrieve your value…
    Do your Photoshop process ( use switch or if/else )
    Unload the library
    Done…
    If you struggle post back I may be able to help…

  • Smart Folder in Finder displays incorrect list when using "File label" option.

    Hello.
    I created a Smart Folder in Finder, to display all files that have any color (label).
    But have a problem just with one file, and although it has no Label, it keeps displaying that file.
    Just to let you know:
    1) File is not in Trash or hidden.
    2) Checked several times the "information" of the file. Assign any color, then removed it.
    3) File is synched with Dropbox v2.0.5
    4) File is a Microsoft Excel and been working with it for a while with Office for Mac.
    OS X 10.8.3

    I'm having this problem, too. It with even show files with other color tags when filtering by another color. I tried changing the file color then changing it back to blank and it disappears temporarily, but if you view another folder and then come back the file pops back.

  • Newbie Problem, White edges when using colors?

    Hi, I am new to illustrator, and this problem has been bothering me forever. I have googled beyond belief, but no answer. Maybe I am using the wrong terminology? Not sure. But overall, when I create things in illustrator, and use color, there are white edges around everything. Example below.
    Also the colors I choose don't seem to be the ones that show up. Like, for the example above, I chose a deeper purple, but a lighter purple came out. I guess illustrator is A LOT different than photoshop.

    well, i recently had something like that too.
    I just couldnt figure out why it was showing up.
    Untill i began looking at the layers.
    It seemed that somehow some layers got duplicated and stuff.
    So i recommend that you have a look at your layers and check for unwanted duplicates.

  • Window shutdown when using java

    Greetings, since a short time i've having probs when using the java.
    For a time all goes well, but then the IE window just shuts down.
    No warning or whatever....
    Anyone any ideas?
    Tnx in advance

    Possible a bug, probably and more likely something is corrupted. Not much you can do short of trying to reinstall if there are really no errors or dumps present. You should look in your System -> application log file first to see if there are in fact errors you are not seeing.

  • Windows disappear when using spaces

    Something very peculiar has begun happening today and I will describe its features below:
    1) When switching from one space to another, all the windows in one space would completely disappear. They were not hidden, but the windows disappeared. The menu for the program was visible and items from the menus could be selected, but the menus were not visible
    2) Sometimes all the windows entirely in all spaces would disappear.
    3) When I turned spaces off and on again the would usually reappear.
    4) Sometimes when using the keyboard command to switch spaces the desktop background would change
    5) When pressing Apple-Tab to switch applications, at first certain programs would not show their icon, but simply a white square, and then the bar of applications would not be visible at all. It was still possible to change between programs, but the icons were not at all visible.
    6) I later found out that the problems were minimized if I reduce the number of open applications. The problems occurred when I had about 20 applications open simultaneously. I still had over 700 MB of free RAM, so that was not the problem. When I quit about half of the applications, all the goofy-ness with Spaces stopped.
    Is this a bug or is there a reason why I should only be able to have 8 programs open simultaneously? How can I fix this so I can have more programs open?
    Thanks!

    I have a similar issue with Spaces. Windows just seem to disappear. The menus are available if I click on them in the dash, however the windows are still missing. Sometimes manually assigning them in Spaces will bring them back, but then they just disappear again.
    I've seen tons of issues like this with no response or fix.

  • Random Authentication Failures when using AdminConnectionFactory

    Has anyone experienced this problem when using the AdminConnectionFactory to create a JMXConnector. I have a Sun ticket open on this issue, but wanted to see if anyone else had any suggestions. Ticket # is 72502922
    Our application uses the Sun AdminConnectionFactory to obtain a JMXConnector object. The code is being executed in a loop at a regular frequency. There is no dynamic nature to the code. All the information required to open a connection using the AdminConnectionFactory comes from static property files. So there is no question of one call being any different than a second call.
    Every so often the call to create a connection fails with the exception message:

    What is causing this connection creation to fail. The same application will work just fine a few minutes later.

    Thank you for the response.
    Bug 6906978 is a defect that shows itself under high concurrency situations. In our case, we have a single quart based timer that is being triggered every 2 minutes to open a JMX connector. So my guess is that bug 6906978 and the problem that we have been experiencing are two different things.
    But I am willing to try out 4.4U1P1. Any idea where I can download it from?

  • Random Window Closing

    Good day all,
    I just started using Arch this weekend. Liking the experience of learning and playing so far.
    i installed xfce as my de.  My problem is that at random times -not usually often but still annoying- the windows I have open will just close on their own leaving me just the desktop background (none) and conky. I have to reopen the windows again and if I didn't save i would lose any changes made to document.
    Can anyone shed some light on 1. the cause of this and 2. over a solution or a path to one.
    Thanks a mil guys and girls.
    Regards.

    Check that by hitting Alt-Tab to step through the open windows; regardless of whether they are on a different desktop.
    Also, open a terminal window and launch the GUI app from the terminal.  You will get to see the stdout and stderr streams from the program to the terminal.
    If none of these suggestions help, we will move on to running a program under gdb to get a core dump
