Randomly disappearing DVD artwork in iTunes

Hopefully someone can help me...
I was lucky to receive an Apple TV for Christmas which is working really great. I have been ripping my DVD's on a daily basis using Handbrake to great effect, playing very well through my Apple TV.
However, my problem lies in mysteriously disappearing DVD cover artwork. Once I add a DVD rip to my iTunes library I select the movie in itunes, bring up the info window and goto the Artwork tab and paste in the artwork. This simply doesn't work? I have tried both pasting in the artwork (jpg saved from web) and also saving the jpg to a folder on my mac and trying to insert it using the 'Add' button. The artwork for both methods appears in the window but as soon as I click OK, no artwork appears.
Now the strange thing is, if I click to play the movie and let it run for a few seconds then close it, I can add the artwork OK. Very strange!
However (again) once I see the artwork in iTunes if I click the movie (one click) the artwork disappears!
There seems to be no pattern to this that I can detect? Some movies keep the artwork, some don't.
These are all DVD rips from disks in my iMac ripped using Handbrake and all cover artwork is from either Amazon or the iMDB website.
I should add as a further piece of information that this problem is not apparent for my CD rips and album art. Mostly iTunes finds artwork for my CD's but on occasion where it doesn't the copy and paste from the web works just fine.
This problem is only with DVD artwork.

I've had times where artwork won't take in music files, I haven't encountered it yet in movies yet (knock on wood). I've been using MetaX (http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/24994/metax) to place artwork and other meta-data in the actual files themselves. When you add a file to iTunes the data automatically appears. If you update a file that already exists in iTunes using the iTunes Get Info command updates iTunes.

it took me 5 days to make sure all of my 2000 songs had album artwork. now some of the songs are randomly disappearing. is there any reason to this, or a solution.....i dont want the 5 days i spent putting artwork to be for nothing. thanks.

correction, the songs arent deleting but the album artwork on some of the songs.

Album Art Randomly Disappearing in I-Tunes

Background: I have an old version of Itunes (6.01.03) and I am running Windows XP. My library consists of songs ripped from CD's, downloaded from artist sites, downloaded from blogs or ripped from stream/converted to MP3.
Problem: The album artwork has been randomly disappearing from my mp'3 for quite a while. It is not limited to one type of file - download ones or ripped ones.
Songs with an id tag of v2.2 seem to be fine. Tags at v2.3 seem to lose the artwork. So I change the album tags from v2.3 to none to v2.2, then add the artwork, the select the convert selection to Mp3 option. The file then reads "encoded with ITunes 6.01.03".
This seems to work for a while. But the id tags eventually switch back to v2.3 and I lose the album artwork again.
I have spent countless hours on updating the album information and artwork only to keep losing it. Any suggestions on what I can do to keep losing the artwork or should I just give up on adding the artwork?

I think the v2.2 tags are your problem, and something else on your PC is changing the tags, not iTunes. iTunes is not that smart....
I suspect Windows Media Player. It is installed on every PC, and the default iptions are to look things up on the internet. It can do this in the background, without you even thinking WMP has launched. Go in and look at your WMP options, set it to not update from the internet.
In my case, I had disappearing artwork with v2.2 tags. Then I would run it through a little program to figure out beats per minutes, and the artowkr was gone - because the tags for v2.2 were wrong.
After I converted everything to v2.3, disappearing artwork stopped.

Zombie artwork in iTunes 11 - cant replace with new

I made up an album for a party and gave it a random piece of artwork.
Now when I have disassembled the album iTunes insists on using that random artwork even though I have gone through the Get Info/Artwork process and deleted the old and replaced with new. I even deleted the tracks completely (both locally and cloud), rebooted iTunes and then replaced the tracks with different source material. Loe and behold next day the old art work is back and the new disappeared. Obviously lurking somewhere is the old artwork and it knows which tracks it used to "own" and iTunes "helpfully" corrects my attempts to change and puts the old back.
Any suggestions?

The exact same thing happened to me!
installed 11.1 on my 10.6 Intel MacBook Pro (2006). No issues. Then suddenly I couldn't keep the program open.
After reading your description I was reminded that this started after I went through the settings & turned on the podcast sync. Now it keeps crashing & I can't keep it open long enough to check that option!
I've restarted, ran DiskWarrior on my computer & my external drive that holds the iTunes library. It was open for a while so I could update apps, but the second I opened the podcast tab... CRASH & can't keep it open longer than 30 seconds. Guess I'm gonna have to trash preferences or something 'cause this is getting crazy.

Why are my ical calendars randonly disappearing? I updated to Maverick, but one disappeared before I did that update. I have 10 different calendars, each identified by its own color, example: "work" calendar is yellow, my personal calendar is green. Every month or so, one randomly disappears without my even being in the program or changing anything. Along with the calendar ALL its events are gone as well. None of those events show on my iphone, imac, ipad or macboook pro. They just vanish, along with many appointments I have scheduled, and their directions and info. Im SO FRUSTRATED! Im ready to go back to paper.

Can't add artwork to itunes movies

Hi,
I am using Video Converter Ultimate to load my dvd collection in iTunes movies. The converter output is .m4v file. When I add artwork to the "Artwork" tab of the Get Info box It will add but then I get a spinning colored ball and I must force quit iTunes. When I reopen the move in iTunes the movie will not play. The move is there but when playing the movie it is black (no video will play). Any suggestions?

The Movies are M2V formated, and have AC3 Audio (Have an AC3 Plugin' and Have Apples MPEG 2 component). So please can anyone help me get Artwork to my Movie in iTunes?
Sorry to say, it is not possible in this case. The ability to add/contain graphic "artwork" in iTunes is a property of the file container here. M4V and MP4 containers, for instance, can contain one such independent graphic. On the other hand, an MOV (assume you saved your M2V/AC3 data as an MOV) file cannot. On the other hand, your MOV file can have a "poster frame." If you are not a "purist," you can get around this problem by simply adding/drag 'n dropping your graphic to an appropriate point in your MOV file (I would recommend the end of the file), setting it as your "poster frame," and saving the file. In iTunes, this "poster frame" will now show up in your "artwork" display locations. (PS -- this is on a separate track as you attempted to do. In QT Pro, pre-position playhead to end of file and add JPEG track last so its layer is above main movie layer.)

The content owners don't allow it. Buy DVDs with digital copies, or buy movies/TV shows online. You can't legally rip your DVDs.

Apps randomly disappearing

Has anybody had app store apps randomly disappear from their phones? I've had a few do that, and I think it's apps that had an update. For instance, I had tap tap revenge on, then I read (on web) that it got an update. I went to the app store, click the update button and it said that there were no apps that needed updating. I went back to my phone, and tap tap revenge was no longer there. I then re-downloaded the app, and it knew that I had "purchased" it. The same thing happened "myLite".
I have a lot of apps, and only a few show up in my iTunes, so I don't think it's iTunes sync that is erasing it.

Yes, I have had multiple apps "disappear" from my iPhone. I download them, use them, then they just seem to "vanish" from the phone.
Not sure if this has something to do with the way that apps are downloaded and stored on the iPhone, vs when you download them to iTunes then sync them to the phone from iTunes. I haven't completely gotten my brain around the way that iTunes and the iPhone manage apps. If you download an app from iTunes then updates will appear in the "Applications" section of your iTunes application. But if you downloaded it on the phone, then the upgrade shows up in the App Store on the phone. Confusing to me... Maybe someone has an easy explanation for why Apps are managed this way?

Music randomly disappears during sync with iPhone

When I sync my iPhone with my MacBook Pro, music randomly disappears from my iTunes library. The first time, 100 items "could not be found," then the last time 10 items "could not be found." Songs are still listed in the library, but they will not play and they have an exclamation point next to them. I have everything backed up on an external drive, but it's a pain to have to keep dragging songs back over. This problem began after my most recent OS X update. The items are very random and incude songs purchased from iTunes, songs from CDs I own and "digital book" downloads included with albums I purchased through iTunes. I would very much appreciate any help. I'm afraid to sync music anymore!

Unfortunately, this does not fix my issue. The battery indicator still disappears sometimes (not always) when syncing and I always have the sidebar showing. BTW, this only happens with my 5S not with my wife's 5 or my iPad 3. It used to happen with the 5 that used to be mine until I got the 5S and gave the 5 to my wife. Because of this I think it has something to do with some app I have loaded (but since I have many apps it would be very hard to track down).

Problem with artwork in iTunes 7

Since i got iTunes 7 a strange error started in my ipod video 60gb(fully updated):
First, the ipod was not showing any artwork. Then i tried to uncheck the "display artwork" field, and press apply. Then check the field againd, and press apply again. It started to optimize my artwork, but by the middle of the process, this error happened: "The ipod "Flavio" cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred
(-50).". I started searching in the internet what could this error be, and found that it is a communication problem, or something like that, but could be caused by bad (corrupted maybe) pictures, photos or artwork. I erased them all (even all the artwork) and tried the uncheck-check process again, and the same error happened. I read that it could be lack of space in my computer, but right now there are 6.6gb of free space in my c: (is it enough?) and the error still happens.
Today i plugged my ipod on a computer with iTunes 6, tried the uncheck-check process again, and surprise, it worked! Unplugged the ipod, tried playing the only song with artwork remaining, and it worked too! So i came back home and tried again with itunes 7, but the error happened again, tried the song and the artwork wasn't showing again... Ok, so i tried with a laptop, itunes 6, and it worked perfectly again, then i thought "The problem can be happening just on my computer". Updated the laptop itunes, tried unchecking-checking again, and it seemed to work, no errors, but when i played the song on ipod, the artwork was gone again! Just like when the error happened... Tried again, no errors, no artwork, tried back on my computer, error, no artwork.
2 itunes 6 -> worked, 2 itunes 7 -> problems. The only possible conclusion is that there is a bug in this new itunes, or a new way of dealing with artwork (by itunes, not by the users). Am i right? Or can anyone help me?
I was thinking about restoring, but as i am adding everything by hand, nothing automatic, it could take a lot of time to choose everything again, and to make all the playlists again... And after seeing that this could be a bug, and could happen again, i decided to post everything here before restoring, to see if there is a better solution.

there is some problem with i tunes 7(the7.0.1 patch also) in that any artwork found by i tunes is visible whilst viewing tracks in your library if you transfer said tracks to your ipod then the artwork is not transferred,also it you use album artwork as your screensaver then artwork found by i tunes is not used. i can only think that something is not beeing written to the id tags of the tracks. any artwork found by yourself and dragged into the relevant box on the track or album information screen(called up by apple+i)is seen on itunes and by the screensaver. i have spoken to apple support and they assured me that they would get back to me as they had to investigate.that was a month ago. if the problem really bugs you then you can drag artwork found by itunes onto your desktop and then back into the tracks id screen. this remedys the problem but is tedious to say the least. hope this helps

I am using iCloud email and my emails are randomly disappearing before I can read them. They are not in any folders on my iPhone and I am having to call apple to have the last 7 days of email sent to me in order to retrieve what is being lost.

Can no longer burn cd's or dvd's in itunes or iphoto

I have been unable to burn cd's or dvd's in itune or iphoto. I can watch them copy pictures from them and listen to music. Does this mean that the burner is dead, or has something happened during the upgrades?
