Randomly dropping wireless connection,

At some indeterminate time in the past ( I cant tie it to a specific event), I started having problems with my wireless connection.
This is a series of events that I believe happens when the network drops, but it is not 100% repeatable.
If the PB goes into energy saver mode, with the lid open, when I attempt to use the network, the antenna strength is good, but nothing connects, by which I mean that Safari is "Looking" for the website.
Rebooting solves the problem , but I also discovered that just closing the lid, waiting for 10 sec, opening it again. reestablishes the connection. Its a pain but it works.
This happens with MAIL, SAFARI, ITUNES, Firefox..... so it is not just the client..
Any ideas on problem/solution.. please reply

Determined that this is an antenna problem,
search forums for "antenna" to see my later post.

  • E3200 - Dropping wireless connection on the Mac

Pros: Gig Eth switch, no front-facing indicator lights, familiar web interface...
Cons: WiFi Protected Setup doesn't belong. Continually drops wireless connections to my Mac Book Pro (but none of my other devices), which worked just fine on the E3000 this unit replaced and works perfectly on other WiFi networks. REALLY SLOW web interface - average time to move from one page to the next is something north of 9 seconds. Again, never a problem with the E3000 that this unit replaced. Price? I wouldn't complain about price if this thing actually worked as expected.
Other Thoughts: I'm hoping it's just a flaky/defective unit and not indicative of the overall quality of newer Linksys products. Firmware isn't the issue - it's running the latest one from Linksys' site.

First of all please verify that you have got a 802.11n card in your computer. New generation routers (i.e. E3200) speaks an entirely different language with 802.11g cards, so while those adapters can work with the E3200, but they are not optimized to provide good performance. It is like having to translate from one language to another in real time when going from N to G.
Well, there are few things you should keep in mind with regards to N routers:
    1) For the best possible speeds, you need to be using WPA2-AES as your security mode. Any other security mode will see your speed/range capped.
Any G devices in your wireless network will tend to hamper the performance of your overall network.
Ensure that your router is running the latest firmware from homesupport.cisco.com The new firmware includes performance enhancements and fixes.
The router by default uses a channel setting of auto, which means that it would keep switching channels depending on the interference. I’d recommend you set it to a fixed channel. Usually, 1, 3, 6 and 9 give you the best performance depending on your environment of course. I’d suggest you try different channels, observing each for a while, to see which gives you the best performance. You can follow the link here on how to change channels.

  • WRT54G keeps dropping wireless connections

Wired connection to the router works fine. But it drops all the wireless devices (PC, phone, tablet) multiple times each day, sometimes only 30-60 minutes after reconnecting. Power cycling the router "fixes" the router and allows reconnection. There are 2 topics in the FAQ section that looked helpful:
Getting poor or no signal from a wireless router
Top causes of dropping wireless connection on a Linksys router
but clicking on those does not bring up anything. Anyone know where to find those 2 FAQs? Any other ideas for what might be causing this?

Hi. You may need to do firmware upgrade on your router as is the case these days for legacy routers.  What is the hardware version by the way? You can find it at the bottom of the router right after the tiny print of the model. Access homesupport.cisco.com and search for the model. When you get the router's page click downloads below support sections and from there you have to select the hardware version, once you do that you will see the firmware version for the said hardware version. Usually it is a bin file when you save it and you can open that one on the router's page. Once you access your router's page go to Administration and click Firmware Upgrade and select the file you downloaded from the website. Make sure that you do this upgrade with a computer plugged-in to the router. When upgrade is done, you do a 30-second reset and unplug/replug the router also for 30 seconds. You may refer to this link http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=4030.
As for the link for Getting poor or no signal from a wireless router, I found this one from Cisco's public kb site but not able to for the other one but I believe they are related.
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=d9a3b1b2039741948a2365b053a93ea8_3759.xml&pid=80&r...
Try to change channels as well on your router: you can try 1,3,6,9. Make sure the router is placed at least 3 feet above ground and check the antenna as well if it is still okay.

  • WRT330N Dropping Wireless Connections

I have a WRT330N which I have been using for a while with a couple of wired connections and 3 wireless connections.
It has been working great for months, but has suddenly started dropping wireless connections.  I basically haven't touch the thing since I set it up and it has worked flawlessly.
Any idea why it would suddenly start behaving this way?  Nothing else about the environment has changed either.
    Could it be dying?
BTW, it will drop connections with a system literally sitting right next to it.. so distance isn't an issue.

Try to upgrade the firmware of the router .
And also do not use any electronic devices in the range of router .

  • WRK54G dropping wireless connections

    Hi,
    I have a WRK54 firmware Version 1.56.01
It keeps dropping wireless connections and can't get back on, requires restarting (power) the router to allow wireless working again.
I have set the MTU to 1300
Doesn't allow me to update the firmware, error "Upgrade action is not finish!! Upgrade file pattern error."
    Using Windows XP SP2
    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Sercan

Are you trying to Upgrade the firmware on your Router from your Wireless Computer? If yes, then you can Hardwired your computer to the Router using an Ethernet Cable and then try to upgrade the firmware of your Router....
If still you are Unable to upgrade the firmware on your Router, then you need to Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable..... Now you can try to upgrade the firmware on your Router.

  • Macbook keeps dropping wireless connection

    Hi
this is my first post so be gentle with me LOL
I have had many issues with BT over the last 8 months, mostly due to the speed I had in my area (was 0.45MB when wired at one point), but I recently started to have an issue with the laptops in the house.
I have 2 teenagers and luckily for them we all have Macbooks as I have given them my old ones when I have upgraded I am using a macbook pro (less than a year old & wireless N) and my eldest boy is using a Macbook (about 6 years old with wireless G) you might see where I'm going here....
the problem is the older macbook keeps losing connection on the wireless, I have called and spoken to the 1st line support guys in India but it's a bit of luck if you can understand them let alone find someone who knows what they are doing. As I work in IT I completely understand and normally ask them to read my notes before advising me especially as I had so many issues last year when I was given a number to get through to the priority care team LOL , so far I have tried the following:
moving the Hub 3 to several locations around the house
    reinstalling snow leopard
    using a wireless dongle
I live in the middle of nowhere so there are no other houses around which have a hub3 sp none can be affecting me and I've checked this by using programs like inSIDDer.
Finally I thought I'd take it to work to see if I could get the model number of the wireless card and order a new one and guess what it works fine!! So I thought I'd check at a friends and again it works fine for the whole time I'm there.
Brought it home and it won't stay connected GRRRAAA!!!!!!!
I've heard that the hub3 doesn't like having a wireless N & and wireless G laptops on the connecting at the same time is this correct? Has anyone else heard of this?
finnally I do have windows machines in the house and none of them  (2 laptops and a desktop which is wired) are having an issue but the Sony TV which is wired directly in to the hub will also drop connection randomly between 8 PM and 10 PM every day so I'm leaning towards the hub being a rubbish router instead of the problem lying with my Macbook

  • IPhone 4/iPad (Gen 1) randomly losing wireless connection

    Hi
I have an iPad and iPhone 4 both with latest software (4.3.4) - over the last week or so I have noticed that my wireless connection on both devices seems to randomly drop out and I have to turn wifi off then on again from the device and I'm connected again (until it drops out again) - I would probably do this at least 5 times a day and it's getting annoying
As well as turning wifi off and on i have also tried the following, but the connection still keeps dropping:
    reset network settings within settings
renew lease within wifi networks settings
    turned off bluetooth
Changed to just WPA only and WPA2 only wireless security protocols (instead of WPA2/WPA combined) through modem
    Rebooted modem
    Changed wireless channel through modem
Now just for the record, before this issue started I ALWAYS had stable connection on both devices, I have not changed any connections or hardware on my network since this problem began - also, I know there is absolutely nothing wrong with my wireless signal being broadcast from my modem because I have a Macbook Pro (2010) and a Macbook Air (recently released model) that both connect wirelesly and the connection to both are rock solid (so when my IOS devices are not connecting my Macbooks are still connected and online without a hitch)
Also, the wireless icon on both devices show full strength when they are not connecting
Has any of the Apple gurus out there had this issue and been able to resolve it? If you could let me know how you achieved this I would be eternally grateful
    Thanks
    Regards
    VFP

Presumably you have a modem/router combination?
Since you have two devices exhibiting this problem (which they did not previously have) this points to your router having developed a problem despite the fact that some other devices still seem to work with it. You, in fact, do NOT know that there is nothing wrong with your router because some devices can still connect to it. They should all connect to it if it were working correctly.
Test your iPad and iPhone on some other networks to eliminate the small probability that both have failed at exactly the same time. If they function well on other networks then replace your router (as an alternative you could try doing a factory reset of your router to see if this fixes the problem - see your router documentation to see how to do a reset. If this is a router/modem combo you should check with your ISP)

    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
How far away are the wireless devices from the hub ? It could be that it's trying to use 5Ghz wireless, which has a much less of a distance reach.
The hub settings should be altered so that the 5Ghz wireless has a different name (SSID). I've recommended adding ".5" to the name. Alternatively turn off 5Ghz altogether.

  • MacBook Pro randomly drops Ethernet connection.

I use my new MacBook Pro both connected wirelessly and via Ethernet to my home network. My network is connected to ADSL via a firewall/gateway router. I have a Powerbook G4 and a WinXP machine running on this same network (wirelessly and wired) without any issues.
For some reason my new MacBook Pro, however, will randomly drop off the network and will often require a reboot to reacquire a DHCP address. At first, I noticed this when transferring large amounts of data to the laptop across the network (retiring my XP machine). I thought I may have a bad cable or bad port on my hub so I switched both. After a couple more transfers, however, the problem seems to have returned.
Mid transfer, the MBP will lose connectivity to the DHCP server and assign itself a 169 address. I am unable to reacquire a 192 address from DHCP and have to restart the MBP to get back on the network.
Needless to say, this is very annoying and not at all what I expected with my new MBP.
Any thoughts appreciated as I am at whits end on this one.

I am having a similar issue. I have not yet tested with standard Ethernet, only Wireless using WPA2.
I have 3 Macs (iBook G4, PowerMac G5, and MBP (Core 2 Duo) all connecting a private wireless network consisting of a Airport Extreme and an Airport Express using WDS. All computers and basestations are running the latest versions of their respective software (10.4.8, V5.7, V6.3)
ONLY the MBP has the following problems: dropping the connection, failing to reconnect after sleep, and failing to obtain an IP address via DHCP after connecting.
The signal power reported by both the menu-bar widget and the Internet Connect application varries continually on the MBP, even though it is sitting 2 feet from the Airport Extreme basestation. Sometimes full strength, sometimes only two bars.
I have removed all preferred networks from the Network system preferences and re-added only my network. I have also removed the passwords for the routers from my keychain.
The MBP will often-times simply drop it's connection. When it does that, it will not automatically reconnect to my network. If I put the MBP to sleep it often-times will not reconnect when it awakes either. Sometimes it does, but I cannot decern a pattern. If it does automatically reconnect it will usually not obtain an IP address from the basestation.
Simply toggeling the MBP's Airport off and then on will almost always get it to find my network and automatically connect. Even if it does connect to the network, it doesn't always obtain an IP address via DHCP. Again, if I simply toggel the MBP's Airport off and on then it will usually connect and obtain an real IP address.
All of these things happen within two feet of the basestation, as well as more than 20 feet away. Both other Macs continue working just fine even while the MBP is having problems.
This is not an issue with the basestations or my configuration. It must be a problem with the drivers for the Airport card in the MBP.

  • Satellite U920T - dropping wireless connection

My Satellite U920T seems to sporadically drop its wireless connection and reverts to 'limited' connection which provides no internet access. This is the case on both my home and work wireless networks.

    Thank you

  • T41 dropping wireless connection

I've had nothing but trouble with my T41 wireless connection. The model number is 2374-3HU.
With Windows XP installed, my home wireless connection (which has excellent strength) would drop intermittently. The network would not be found and I would pull my hair out over this. I wiped out XP and installed Windows 7, hoping the problem would go away. No such luck.
The first time I set it up, the network was found and ever since then it comes and goes but I am never able to connect to it. I have a Toshiba connected to the same network and have never had a problem with it.
Are there any firmware updates that can be applied to resolve this very frustrating problem?

    Hi itmanager8815,
Unless i'm wrong your computer got the Intel 2100 3B wireless adapter?
If that's the case i would only recommend to replace the mini PCI wireless adapter since i had some really bad experience with those adapters as well as some other old Intel wireless adapter in the past.
I would say that the 2100 3B mini PCI adapter is basically useless. At the time when i had a Thinkpad T40, T41, T42 and T43 i replaced the Intel wireless mini PCI adapter with the Thinkpad Wireless (Atheros) and it worked a lot better. I also had a lot of disconnect issues with the 2100 3B and 2200bg. The newer Intel wireless adapter like 5300 and 6200 i find to work great though.
I don't know any solution to fix the problem with the 2100 3B since i tried in the past without success.

  • ATV keeps dropping wireless connection, loses connection information...

    Hello.
I'm running the latest OS for ATV. Every other day I'm noticing, when I flip over to my ATV, that's it's lost its connection to my wireless network. I realize this may be the result of interference, but when the ATV drops its connection, does it also "forget" network connection information? I mean, I can understand dropping a connection because of interference, but shouldn't it remember the connection information, so when the connection is available again, it just reconnects?
I never had this issue with OS 2.x and only started with the OS 3.x upgrade.
I don't have the option to hardwire the ATV.
    Regards,
    Kristin.

Since I went to 5ghz wireless N on Apple Extreme device none of my 4 ATVs have lost connection. That was 18 months ago. Before then I too experienced frequent and frustrating loss of signal problems. I picked up a used Apple Extreme on Amazon for about $100 and set it up in the basement, near the center of the house. It communicates well through 2 floors and multiple walls.
