ok so first off thank you to anyone who can help it is much appreciated.  I have a range expander model wre54g.  that worked fine at a friends house I recieved it as a housewarming gift from him and tried to set it up with my linksys router and all i got on initial plug in was a quick flash of a red light under link.  then after it was pluged in for 10 min or so the light came back on but as a solid blue light no flash no activity light nothing I tried to find it under wireless networks and nothing any ideas?

What is the Model no of the router..?
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your Expander, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...
    1. Connect your Expander to a computer, click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>> Network Connections - Right click on the icon for Local area connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the following IP address'- Provide IP Address - 192.168.1.5, Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0...Click on Ok button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window...
    2. Now open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.240.
Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...It should open your Expander set-up...
    3. Once you get to the set-up page you can follow this link to change the Expander Settings...
NOTE : The link also explains to check the Wireless Settings on your Router...
    4. While changing the Expander settings you have to make sure that the Wireless Settings(SSID/Network Name and WEP/WPA Key) are identical on both the devices(Router and Expander)...Also make sure to change the Expander's default IP to match your network and Gateway Address should be your Router's address...ex. Expander's IP Address : 192.168.1.240(assuming your router's default IP Address is 192.168.1.1), Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1...
    5. After configuring the Expander you should disconnect it from the Computer and go into Local Area Connection TCP/IP Properties and set it back to Obtain IP Address Automatically...Disconnect the Expander from the computer and power cycle both the devices(Expander and Router)...Your Expander should be configured...

  • Range Expander Connection Problem

I have installed a range expander. However my laptop continues to connect to the weaker signal from my router. There is a PS3 in the same location as the laptop and that connects to the range expander just fine.
Any suggestions to what the problem might be

Well try doing a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug in the power cable to the
router & check out it will definately work!!

  • Range Expander Setup problems

When setting up the device I can get all the way to where I should get the congratulations screen, Instead an Error dialog box appears with "Cannot get Confirmation Reply"
I'm pretty sure all the information is entered correctly, Is this a Linksys error or a Windows Xp error?

    HI...
To verify that the expander is configured or not. After running the CD.....unplug the power to the expander ......disconnect the ethernet connection to the expander ........wait for 3o seconds and then connect only t he power back to the expander. Check the lights on the expander both should be Blue.
In case if there is one Blue and one RED light. Follow the followings steps.
Connect a computer directly to the RE using an ethernet cable. Assign static IP address to the computer i.e IP address 192.168.1.10
                                                               Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
                                                               Default Gateway 192.168.1.240
Open Internet explorer ......In the address bar type http://192.168.1.240. This will prompt for username and password ....Enter the username and password that you have set for the wireless range expander. (Default password is admin with no username).
When the configuration page is fully loaded. Configure the expander with the same wireless settings at that of the wireless router.
Make sure that the wireless settings on the router and the expander are exactly the same...with the same wireless security.
Save the settings before exiting.  Once the settings are saved...disconnect the expander from the computer and set the computer back to obtain IP address automatically. Unplug  the power to the router and also to the expander.......wait for 30-60 seconds and then connect the power back to the router first......wait untill all the lights on the router are steady......reconnect the power back to the expander....
Check the lights on the expander. Both should be blue.
In case if the lights are still blue and red get back with the model number of the router and also the firmware version. Also Check what is the firmware version of the expander.

  • Safari won't connect to Linksys Range Expander

Hope some one can end my sleepless nights...
I have read the posts on this forum for this type of problem and have followed the advice given but still can't get my neighbours Mac laptop to connect to my wireless network
I have a Desktop PC running windows XP and two laptops running xp and vista. The network is a Belkin ADSL+2 modum and Netgear Wireless Rangemax router WPN824 which is wired by Ethernet to the PC while the Laptops hook into the network wirelessly. I am running WEP encryption on the router.
I hooked up the Linksys WRE54G Range Expander and finally got it confugured on my network and placed it on the edge of my signal but my neighbour has a Mac and can't piggy back. The airport say it is connected to my network but we can't open a page and get on the web. Interestingly she is able to hook up to my router when in my unit with the Airport using the WEP password and I can take my laptop in her unit and connect automatically to my network thru the RE as the signal is excellent.
After searching various threads here and forums elsewhere I configured the Mac's IPv4 to "Use DHCP with manual address" I assigned an IP address of 192.168.1.50 (as advised in the posts) , applied and rebooted - no luck! I have searched all types of sites for any information as I am only a novice
My router is the DHCP Server and has an IP of 192.168.1.1 and subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0. It's starting IP address is 192.168.1.2 and ends with 192.168.1.254. The Ip address of the Range expander is 192.168.1.240 and the subnet mask is the same while the gateway is 192.168.1.1 (router IP) It has WEP encryption enabled using the same keys as the router. Didn't know how to ping using the Mac so no info there sorry.
When we assigned an IP address in the ethernet settings on the mac we configured IPv4 "Using DHCP with manual address" as per advice from other posts. We then only had the option to set an IP address and nothing else.
When we go to "Network" we have a green light next to AirPort and it says "Airport is connected to the network JLay (my SSID). You are connected to the internet via AirPort".
We tried various other types of configurations with IPv4 but nothing works
Any advice is appreciated as I've now hit a brick wall

Seems that I needed to type in the DNS server address (10.0.0.2) when I configured IPv4 manually. I used an IP address for the MAC 192.168.1.50 (as suggested) and same subnet mask as the router and used the IP address for the router in the router box.
    What a relief!

  • Trouble setting up WRE54G range expander

I'm trying to set up a WRE54G range expander.  Its power is on, and it is connected to a new Cisco E3200 dual band router via Cat5.  When I try to access the WRE54G via 192.168.1.240, the web page hangs and then times out.  I never had this problem when I used the extender with my old Linksys router; I was able to set it up without a problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

So you’re still not able to access the setup page of the range extender even if you are directly connected to the computer and you’ve already setup a static IP address on the computer itself? Try resetting the range extender by pushing and hold down the reset button using a pin or a paper clip for 30 seconds then power it off for another 30 seconds. Once the power light goes solid, try re-accessing the setup page of the range extender and configure the settings with the same wireless settings of the router.
Please take note that your router is a wireless N router so using the WRE54G to extend your network may not work for you. It’s better that your extender is running the same technology as your router. You may check this link for information on which device to use to extend your network: Different devices you can use to extend your network.

  • Wre54g ver. 3 range expander won't turn on?

I unplugged the range expander to move it to another room, (which I 've done a number of times before) but no it won't turn on. None of the lights will turn on and I've tried pressing the auto configuration button and reset button but still nothing. Anyone got any ideas?

I have the same problem as mentioned earlier. Moved the Expander and the lights wont go on. The router is working fine with other computers, is just the expender the one that doesn't work. What can I can do?
    Anybody knows?

  • Range Expander Not Working with MAC

Have been using two WRE54G Range Expanders for over two years.  However, I wanted to add WEP to my system, but when I did that, the Range Expanders lights went RED.  I tried to access the SETUP, but for some reason I am unable to access it.  In any event, made the classic mistake of trying to fix something that really wasn't broken.  Have spent three chat sessions trying to resolve all the issues and of course, after solving one, another cropped up.  Here's where I'm at right now.  Still cannot access the Range Expander SETUP, but more importantly one of the Range Expanders is now no longer working with the MAC's that we have at home.  My wireless PC works fine, but each time I try to log in one of the MAC's, in the expander territory, it tells me that it's a secure connection, which it's not.  For now, I've unplugged one of the expanders and am only using one downstairs and while I have connectivity upstairs, it's not as good as when the expander was working.
Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

OK, my problem has now shifted to another issue.  I did as 'quack' suggested and got both expanders to apparently work, both had two blue lights.  I tried two of the MAC's we have, the third is out of the house at the moment.  Also tried my PC laptop, that worked as well.
I then decided to activate WEP on the wireless router Linksys WRT54G.  Here is where it gets confusing.  Both expanders now have one blue light and one red light, but when trying to connect either of the MAC's it does prompt me for the network key, which once entered, both computers get on the Internet.  It took a while and a re-start for the PC to recognize the network as secure, but once it did and I entered the network key, it too worked.
What continues to baffle me is that there is no way I'm able to access the web setup for the extenders.  The other routers/etc in my network connect via http://192.168.49.xxx, however when I try this using '240' and/or '241' for the expanders, nothing happens.  If I try to ping those addresses, I get no reply.
What furthers confuses me, in that reading some of the other posts it seems that the expander actually showed up in your list of 'AVAILABLE WIRLESS NETWORKS', that is not the way mine is now, nor was it ever in that list.  I guess I should just leave well enough alone, since everything seems to be working, but I get the sense, it's not working properly.

  • With Range Expander I cannot connect to GOOGLE site~ Please HELP ME~!

I purchased this range expander a month ago, since then I cannot connect to the GOOGLE and some other websites. Can anyone know what the problem is?
I tried everything the google site and the other people suggested yet it did not work.
Please help me to fix this problem.
I even formated this hard drive and re-installed Win XP....ㅜ,ㅜ
Someone told me that the problem could be from the expander because of firewall or something..

make sure that all wireless settings on the expander matches the wireless settings on the router.  and for one, im not aware that the expander has a firewall? only router does.

  • The Setup Wizard does not locate my G-Range Expander. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I have encountered a problem. Can anyone help?
Today I purchased the Linksys Range Expander to boost my wireless internet signal (I currently am a verizon fios internet user). I used the CD that came in the package and plugged the expander into an outlet. First, the CD Setup Wizard prompts me to choose the internet signal to be expanded. I find my signal on the list, click it, and wait for the Wizard to "locate the G-Range Expander". After a few seconds, a box comes up on the screen reading "Wireless G-Range Expander not found. Make sure the expander is plugged in". I have reset the range expander and plugged it back in multiple times; however, nothing seems to help the wizard locate the expander (even though I am sitting very close to it). When I click on "find available internet signals" on my laptop, the linksys signal appears, even though the wizard does not find it but it is not usable.
Please help the wizard locate my expander.  Thanks so much!!

If you are trying to configure your WRE using the setup disk, you can exit from the setup and configure all the settings on your Router Manually...Follow the steps bellow.
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your Expander, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...
    1. Connect your Expander to a computer, click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>> Network Connections - Right click on the icon for Local area connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the following IP address'-
Provide IP Address - 192.168.1.5, Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0...Click on OK button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window...
    2. Now open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.240. Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...It should open your
    Expander set-up...
In case if you don't get the Expander set-up just leave it connected to your computer and reset it for 30 seconds and follow Step 2, Step 3, Step 4 & Step 5...
    Hope this helps.

  • Range expander works for a while then doesn't

My range expander works fine most of the time so I know that it's set up ok. The problem is that  both LED's will be blue for a day or two and then I'll notice that the Link LED is blue for four seconds then flashes red for a second and continues this until I unplug it and then plug it back in. When it's doing this "flash thing" my computer still works but is EXTEMELY slow in changing pages and obeying commands. What does it indicate when you get the "four second blue/one second red flash" and does anyone know how to keep it from happening so often? I have a linksys wireless-G router FYI. Could it be an interference problem from a microwave oven or something like that in my house?

There are many Devices which interfere with the Wireless Connectivity. Try to keep the Cordless Phone, Microwave away from your Router, Range Expander and from your Wireless Computers also.
If you still face the same problem, then you can try to re-flash the firmware on your Expander.  Once the firmware is upgraded on your Expander then you need to reset your expander and re-configure all the settings on it from scratch.

  • Linksys Range Expander With Time Capsule

I have a time capsule that I use to wirelessly connect to my Mac.
My wife has a PC some distance away.
    I have a Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander Model No. WRE54G V3
Is there any problem in using it with the time capsule to connect to my
    wife's PC?
The AirPort Utility says that the time capsule IP address is 10.0.1.1
Is this all I need to know?
    Thanks.

Hi… If you get limited or no connectivity, it can be the issue with Wireless Security. Make sure that you router and Range Expander are on same SSID and wireless channel and wireless security settings are same.

  • Range Expander's Link Light Blinks to Red

I have configured my range expander using the installation Wizard CD ROM and
it tells me CONGRATULATIONS, config is completed successfully, however, I
notice the link light on the expander blinks to red every few seconds, systematically, like on queue. Did I miss anything? The PC with the Linksys wireless NIC detects a very strong signal but it cannot connect to the Internet. Is this link blinking to red the reason. What can I do?
Thanks for any advice you can provide in this forum.

Thanks for your response. I have a WRT54G router. What is interesting is that
I actually cabled up the RE to my router and then typed 192.168.1.240 on my
web browser and received the prompt to logon. I logged in successfully but to a
blank screen. It accepted my login information and then nothing. Is the router
somehow preventing me from seeing the RE?
Without being able to see the RE I can verify anything. Have you run into a similar
    problem?

  • Cannot connect to Range Expander

Bought my first Mac, impulse buy...already see that the wireless sensitivity is much less than my old Dell PC. I bought a range expander to pair up with my wireless router, both Linksys, and the PC laptop connects through the expander no problem. The MB connects to the wireless network fine directly to the router, but cannot "see" the range expander. I contacted linksys and they said I needed to contact Apple. So, the MAC gets an IP address, negotiates the WEP etc when I am in range of the main wireless router, but will not connect via the expander. In the Windows machine I can see the MAC address and the access points the computer is seeing but I do not know how to do that with the MAC. Any help?

make sure that all wireless settings on the expander matches the wireless settings on the router.  and for one, im not aware that the expander has a firewall? only router does.

  • Trouble getting range expander to complete site survey

I was able to connect my Wireless G range expander to my router with WEP disabled. When I tried to get the expander to see my router with WEB enabled, the setup wizard site survey keeps failing. Any suggestions?

Fixed the problem by calling the 800# tech support.  Although slow, the guy walked me thru it.  I am connected but I do not see any improvement in the signal?  I have read thru the enitre postings and have a few things to try....any other suggestions?  The Router and Range Expander are on the same level and only  20ft apart and the desktop is around the corner another 8 feet.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
