Rapid alarm sounds followed by rapid whooshing sounds

I have a macbook air and within the last few months when I am on the internet, I hear rapid dinging alarm like sounds followed by rapid whooshing sounds as if hundreds of emails are sending when I have no emails to send.  Has this happened to anyone else?  Has my computer been hacked?  I am on my second new credit card due to someone hacking my credit card but was luckily caughter by Barckley Credit Card.  Maybe I am connecting two separate issues.

Doubtful it's a security issue ...

  • My iMac won't boot, get a black screen with alarm sound, then gray screen with start up sound, then repeats

this problem started last fall after upgrading to Mavericks. If I shut down my computer (or restart) I have problems getting it going again. This is getting progressively worse. I hadn't shut down in over a month, forgot about this issue and shut down (which I used to do daily), so now I can't get my computer to boot. When I hit the power button I hear it starting, then a loud alarm sounds, then a long pause then start up sound with a gray screen with a progress bar. Once the progress bar fills, the screen goes black again for a bit. This whole process will repeat until I get frustrated and force - shut down by holding the power button. I have tried reseting the pram, starting up in safe mode, starting up with the command - R, starting up with my original install disc... none of it works. I'm at a loss! I do have an external hard drive that I have been using for Time Machine, but it's not recent because the disc needs repairs and I hadn't gotten around to buying a new HD to back up to first. Has anyone else had this problem? I really can't afford a big repair/replacement bill.

A long, steady, load tone followed by a progress bar can indicate it is trying to install a Firmware Update.  Any other Tones would be multiple beeps and show an error code.

You can also see a progress bar similar to booting into Safe Mode. However, the firmware update bar is thinner vertically than the Safe Mode bar.

Either way, I would say something is wrong and it would be better evaluated at an Apple Store as Kappy points out.

  • Cannot set a song as alarm sound

    Hey there,
I have been trying to set a song as my alarm sound on my Xperia Z but have not been having much luck. I followed the advice that I found on a thread on this website, but it still is not working.
So far I have created a file named "Alarms" and placed a song in that file. The song then appears in my list of potential alarm sounds, but when I select it as the alarm sound, and the alarm goes off, it just plays a default alarm sound, rather than the song that I selected.
I have tried rebooting the phone and clearing my media data as well, but the song still does not play when the alarm goes off. Any other ideas?
    Thanks!!

Are you able to play the same song using the Walkman player?
Which build number are you running on?
Have you tried this with other songs as well?

  • Add New Alarm Sounds...?

    Hi all,
How can we go about adding new Alarm Sounds in the iPhone 4? I have been checking some tutorials to do it with iTunes, followed the instructions (like, puting a "Start" and "End" time to a song, creating an AAC file out of it, copying the song in a folder, changing it's extension to M4R for Ringtones, deleting the AAC song from the iTunes and finally adding the M4R file back in iTunes...and it appears in a newly created folder called Ringtones, and it plays...)
So then, I synch the iPhone and, correct me if I'm wrong here, I go in the Clock, Alarm, choose a sound, then I can see of course those Bell Tower, Boing, Bark etc...but not the "new ringtone"...is there anything else I'm missing in this process?
I have also read that the ringtones cannot be more than 30 secs...mine is 29 secs...
    Thanx in advance!
    sb

All custom ringtones transferred to your iPhone will be available at a custom ringtone to select for phone calls, and for an alarm sound.
I have a few ringtones that I purchased from the iTunes store to test using the iTunes ringtone creator for a song purchased from the iTunes store that has also been licensed to be sold and used as a ringtone, and I've created a few custom ringtones myself with music or sound files that do not have DRM protection.
When I select Sound to pick a sound for an alarm, I have the following options:
A Purchased category at the top for all ringtones purchased from the iTunes store, a Custom category for all ringtones that I created with songs or music files that do not include DRM protection, and the Standard sounds, which is the same that I have available when selecting a default ringtone for all calls, and when selecting a ringtone for a particular contact.

  • How do you get rid of unwanted alarm sound songs?

Hey guys.  I'm stumped.  I have an iphone 5 that I recently set back to factory settings so it's cleared out of music.  And I don't sync my phone with my itunes library on my macbook as I don't want music on my phone.
BUT I noticed there's 246 songs on my alarm sounds area, where you can pick what alarm sound you want.  And they all have the icloud with arrow symbol to the right of them?  I don't use icloud for music.  I only use icloud for contacts and find my iphone.
How do I delete these 246 alarm songs from my phone?!?  I accidentally touched the icloud with arrow symbol on one of the songs and it housed it permanently in my phone's songs app.  Help!!!

Not sure how iCloud music with an iCloud icon meaning it has not been downloaded can appear with Show All Music off.
When you restored the iPhone with iTunes, did you restore from the iPhone's backup or as a new iPhone or not from the backup?

  • Ipod Touch 3G no longer plays clock alarm sounds and just pauses and shows alarm messages.

All of a sudden, I am no longer able to hear clock alarm sounds like I used to.  Until recently, I was able to just play a music file, set the clock alarm with any sound from the selection while being able to preview the sound before I saved it, and then have it play at the time I set the alarm.  Now, whatever music I'm playing just pauses while the alarm goes off and the alarm messages are visble on screen. I went to settings--->general-->sounds and everything is on.  What happened here?

Yes, I did. All I needed to do was raise the volume from zero to above using the *actual buttons on the side* of the device instead of just the touch screen volume control. If you try to adjust the volume using *only* the touchscreen volume control, the sound of your music and videos will be affected directly as you desire, BUT if the volume control from the *actual buttons on the side* is completely down, the alarm clock will not sound.
I hope this helps. It may not make sense right off the bat but do give it a try.

  • Find Friends app-how to change alarm sound?

i have no problem with the Find Friends app, and use it to let me know when my wife is leaving her office. however, the alarm sound is tri-tone and sounds like most everything else that alerts my iphone 4s. i cannot find anywhere to change this particular alarm sound to something else so that i can hear specifically when she leaves her office, other than checking the phone itself every time it tri-tones. can someone clue me in?

you'll need to do some digging into the mail app to do this. Right-click on the Mail app in finder and select "show package contents". open the contents folder, then the resources folder and navigate down to whatever sound you want to change ("mail sent.aiff"). Make a copy of the original sound file and paste it somewhere else, then drag and drop whatever new .aiff sound file you want to use, renamed so the file name is exactly the same as the one you want to replace, into the resources window.

  • This morning when I turned my macbook pro on, an alarm sound came from my computer and a thin, short line of light was flashing next to the pulsing light that did not come on.  The pulser light has not come on at all today.

This morning an alarm sound accompanied by a flashing thin light happened when I turned on my macbook pro.  Now the pulser light is not coming on at all and there is a steady thin light to the left of the pulser that stays on when I close my laptop.  Does anyone know what may have happened?

    >an alarm sound accompanied by a flashing thin light<
That seems like a memory problem.

  • Alarm sounds in my ear when I'm on the phone

I was wondering if there is a way to program my phone so the alarm doesn't sound loudly in my ear when I'm speaking on the phone. Sometimes I receive calls before my alarm goes off. In the middle of the call, the alarm sounds loudly. Is there a setting I can change so that when I'm using the phone the alarm is silenced automatically?

There is no setting for that. You can make a suggestion to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • Screen turned black and makes some sort of an alarm sound

Does anyone knows a solutions for this: my intel iMac was on all afternoon till suddenly the screen turns black and it starts making some sort of an alarm sound "tuut tuuut". I tried restarting but nothing changes. I tried restarting from the installation Disc with C-key but no result. As a matter of fact i can't even get the disc out of my iMac anymore. Thanx

That sounds like hardware problems, I suggest you call your local Apple Store to my an appointment for them to check it out for you.

  • Switching to different alarm sounds in ical for notifications

    Dear Reader,
Can someone help me with this! I use iCal in iPhone for al sorts of things, and like to have a choice in selecting a alarm-sound for different occasions
    ( wake-up, lunch, birthday, appointments, etc. )
Adding different sounds to different notifications will make it easier ( and more fun ) for the ear to distinguish the priority.
    Greetings Charlie
PS. I found this on the net but that does not fix my  ( iPhone - iCal ) problem!
Change or silence the default alarm sound for iCal events

  • IPhone Alarm Sound Used on My Name is Earl

Tonight (09-27-07) I was watching "My Name is Earl", yes I know...we are all supposed to be smarter than that here but, they used the iPhone's Alarm sound about 3 times during the prison scenes to simulate problems within the prison. The showed a big horn speaker and you heard the iPhone Alarm sound. If you get a chance to catch a re-broadcast you will know in a second that's where they got the sound. Maybe it's a royalty free sound and Apple took it from the same library of sounds that the TV producers got theirs from. Again, kind of dumb but thought it was worth mentioning.

Yup... Apple swiped it from "The Hollywood Edge" a sound library used for scoring movies and tv shows

  • How to change the alarm sound for CALENDAR events?

I missed an important meeting today, thanks to the almost-inaudible and incredibly short alarm sound in the Calendar app.
Is there a way to change the alarm sound for events in Calendar?
Setting another alarm in Clock is viable but obviously inconvenient.
    Thanks in advance!

Settings > Sounds > Calendar. Maybe it was inaudible because yoursound was not turned up.
