If this is happening on an UPSTREAM server it is because you have approved updates that are no longer available from Microsoft. Almost always this involves approvals of *EXPIRED* updates (which have been pulled from the catalog and cannot be downloaded).
If this is happening on a DOWNSTREAM server it's because something/someone deleted the files from the upstream server. It can also happen if the entire upstream ~\WSUSContent folder has gone amuk.

  • Content file download failed.

I haven't been able to find anything on this anywhere. Trying to get Windows 8.1 Update (KB2919355) to download, but it keeps failing.  I'm using WSUS 3.2 on Server 2008 R2, 156GB free space on E drive.
This error has been occurring since April, but all other updates are downloading fine.  If I sort by file status, only the 3 updates for 8.1, 8.1 x64, and 2012 R2 are stuck trying to download.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Anyone know if this is still an issue in WSUS 3.2:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/974500/en-us ?
All existing WSUS v3.2 hotfixes were rolled up into KB2720211 (so they are also present in KB2734608, KB2828185 and KB2938066).
[Edit] Ehhhh. but that's actually a WUA issue that's *not* been resolved to my knowledge. It's not really a bug, just a fact of how the WUA caches content.
Method #2, however, should be the option of FIRST choice. DECLINE the update, and force a client detection. But note that even this methodology is designed to be a *reactive* response, only if the client freaks out.
Then, once the client knows the update is no longer available, you can re-approve the update, and the WUA will RE-download the content that is available. (Of course.. what's also not written in that KB article is that the 'issue' only applies to updates
that actually HAVE EIFs that the client can download!) :-)

This should be considered a temporary fix. It will saturate your Internet connection during periods of WSUS downloads in this configuration.
The correct and permanent fix should be to resolve the failure of your perimeter device to properly support the HTTP v1.1 protocol specification (which is now some 14 years old).
Either your device is misconfigured, or it needs a firmware update to support the full specification.

  • Error when Share to File "The share operation 'File' has failed. Cannot create file."

Upgraded to Mavericks and the new iMovie. Imported a video from iPhone 5 to edit, and then tried to Share File.
Error every time, it says that "The share operation 'File' has failed. Cannot create file." It does not give any error number that would help figuring out the problem.
Late 2011 MacBookPro with 8 GB and over 150 GB free on HD.
Imported several other videos from various sources, and always the same result when trying to Share to File.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I'm having the same problem with a 2012 Macbook Pro 15" Retina; iMovie version 10.0.3. I'm not sure why either. It was working fine until one day it quit exporting to file at all.

  • Detection Method of Date Modified fails due to copied files date modified change

I've been working through an issue for some time now and I think it's a bug with SCCM 2012 SP1. I've built literally 50 deployments in "Application Management" in SCCM 2012, but I've been chasing my tail on a few of them throwing the
"succeeded but couldn't detect" error. The few that have given me problems are all copying text files and then detect the modified date to verify that the file is there. All worked when I initially built them in Windows 8 but are now failing
randomly...even on a machine where they previously worked and I deleted the files to test the deployment again.
    What I'm doing:
My java deployment requires policies which we control with the Deployment.config, deployment.properties and java.policy files. A simple script creates the directories and copies the files. I then create a deployment type for this "ConfigFileCopy.cmd"
and create a detection rule for each file that I am moving over. The detection rule looks for a "date modified" date between the beginning and end of the date for the day I modified the file. This allows me to modify the files to change our
java policies and then redeploy them with the "new" modified date as the detection rule, which forces the update.
    The problem:
When I first created my deployment, everything worked pretty well. The files copy out and the script runs successfully. There were some minor tweaks I need to make to my scripts, so I did and then updated the content for the deployment type. I believe this
is where things go a little wonky. At this point, my deployment starts failing with the "0x87D00324" error.
Looking through the logs, everything looks good. The reason configuration manager is failing on detecting the modified date for those files, as it turns out, is because the modified dates don't meet the criteria. So that part is properly failing the detection.
The problem is that the modified dates are correct on the server but not the client. Looking in c:\windows\ccmcache, I can see multiple folders....presumably one for each version of the application that I updated. Looking at any of the newer content folders
for this app, the modified dates are the date and time the file was copied out to the workstation, which is incorrect as the file hasn't been modified during that process.
The odd part, is that this doesn't happen EVERY time on EVERY machine. My primary desktop is windows 8.1 and received the files correctly and installed without issue. My test win 8.1 laptop initially received them correctly, but then as I refined the scripts
it began picking up the wrong modified dates and started failing.
I found a similar issue to this existed in SCCM 2007 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2276865) so I suspect that this is truly just a bug that hasn't been addressed (or maybe is fixed in R2). Unfortunately
we have business reasons we can't upgrade to R2 at this time so I'm hoping someone has experienced this and has some sort of work around that might get me by for now. If someone can confirm it is fixed in R2, that would help my case to upgrade as well.
I can work around the issue by changing my logic to detect any date greater than a specific date. But I shouldn't have to do that and I'm concerned there are scenarios I haven't thought of that will cause unexpected behavior or failures with that.

This outlines the behavior. It's apparently by design.
"SCCM has a habit of changing the ‘Date Modified’ timestamp of all files it delivers when it detects an ‘upgrade’ of the source files for that application. It typically does not touch the timestamp
of the source files if it delivers a brand new install to a client that has never received the software, however if a single file in the source folder is changed for that application, then SCCM tries to use a previous version of the application in the cache
(C:\windows\ccmcache) and only downloads the new file that has change. This results in all files having their ‘Data Modified’ timestamp changing (except for the brand new file). Therefore determining if that application has delivered
successfully using ‘Date Modified’ timestamps is not recommended. The key to seeing this process in action is looking at the file properties in the
C:\windows\ccmcache\<sccm code> folder for that application, particularly before and after a file is updated in the original source SCCM application folder."

  • Why is file syncing failing due to server error(s)?

I am working on an HTML file inside Edge Code. When I save, it fails due to 'server error' (no other details). I then get multiple 'conflicted copies' of the same file in my cloud directory. I clean this off and try to resave. It saves, then undoes the last few changes! It reverts back to a previous version of the file.
I guess I'll start working with the 'newest' conflicted copy or something. It's ridiculous. There are no internet issues on my end here, either, which is what I thought at first.
Extremely frustrating! I suppose I'm going to work locally, and then just try to sync. the file after I am done (and after I have made a duplicate in case Cloud tries to overwrite and save an older version of the file).
This pretty much makes cloud-based work fairly useless!

  • Can't delete file after renaming due to Word file handle still present. Error staes document is still in use but it's really not. Worked fine in 2007 but not in 2010.

I have some code associated with a Word Template. The template is opened, filled out and saved via a routing in vba. This all works fine in older 2007 version (which is version it was originally created in). Once this file is saved, the user can change the
date in a text box and re-save document. The code saves using the new date for part of new file name and then deletes that older file from the server. It fails at the delete function because the newer version of word is not dropping the file handle from the
first named file when user saves it to the new filename. In older version (2007) this handle was released as soon as file was saved to a different name. I can't seem to figure out how to release the old document filename so the old document file can be deleted.
I hope I explained this well enough.
Here's the code that woeked in version 2007 but fails in version 2010.

    mogulman52 and Don,
I went back and looked at my code and had already updated it to SaveAs in the new docx format. It still holds the lock handle in place until Word closes, unlike earlier versions which released the lock handle when you did a SaveAs.
As a note, all my Word and Excel macro-enabled (dotm & xltm) templates are read only and are never filled in, prompting the user for a file name on any close event or if they run the code gets auto-named. I do the SaveAs and concatenate the file name
from data on the document (or sheet) that has been filled in. During the SaveAs the docx gets saved to a network folder and also on a local folder. The lock gets renamed to the filename and remains until Word is closed.
So my code still fails at the point noted below while trying to delete an old filename version after the file has been saved as a new filename in a new folder. So....
The code is looking in the last folder where the docx file was saved for the older filename so it can be deleted. The newest docx version has already been saved in a different folder and has a new lock handle of its own. That lock is not my problem, it's
the older file lock which really exists in the same folder as the first filename that the docx was saved to. It does not release that lock until I exit Word. My work around has been to instruct all users to manually delete the older version file.
The other odd thing is this only happens when I run it from code, if you manually go through these steps with the SaveAs menu drop-downs in Word it will release the lock handle???
Hope this isn't to confusing and thanks for all your suggestions and help.

  • CS6 Installation Failed due to missing files.

I m having problem with the Adobe CS6 Design & Web Premium installer now.
It keeps saying missing files. I was installing my CS6 from DVD yesterday on my new Macbook Air. then the whole laptop hanged for a good 3 hours. So i did a cold boot. After restarted my mac, i launched the Installer in the disc and it prompted the Missing file error message.
Installation Failed. Installer failed to initialize. This could be due to a missing file.
    More troubleshooting tips:
    1. Restart your computer.
    2. Exit all applications including startup items, virus checking and firewall software.
    3. Launch the installer and reinstall your applications.
I was not able to get pass this stage after numerous retry. Apparently the installer has already installed Bridge and some other components successfully. I tried to access the installer from the Utilities, but i met with the same error.
Would you be able to advise me how to proceed from here?  Thank you very much.

    Hi kglad,
thanks for the reply. i did try to uninstall by using Utilities > Adobe Installers >  Adobe CS6 Design & Web Premium installer, when i click the icon, i get "Uninstall Failed" error, it says:
    Your uninstallation encountered errors.
    Troubleshooting tips:
    1. Restart your computer
    2. Exit all applications including startup items, virus checking and firewall software
    3. Uninstall again.
I have done all the above at least 3-4 times and also downloaded the cleaner tool, and ran it, but not items was listed for cleaning.
Any idea how i should proceed?
    Thank you.
