FIREFOX OPENS RAR FILES INSTEAD OF DOWNLOAD
I'm using Firefox 21. When I try to click in a rar file link, firefox opens the file instead of download.
I've tried to change in "Tools->Options-> Aplications" the actions taken by the browser depending of file types, but there is no case for rar files and I cannot add it.

You should be able to verify this in Tools > Page Info > General
*Press the F10 key or tap the Alt key to bring up the hidden "Menu Bar" temporarily.
In such a case you can't left-click a link, but need to use the right-click context menu and use "Save Link As" -
Corrupted .rar file / incorrect password (help please)
hi there,
i have been sent several .rar video files and usually have no problem expanding them. i generally use Rar Expander and UnrarX. this time however, half-way through the expansion, it always stops, saying the password is incorrect or the file is corrupted. whilst it is being expanded i can watch the file up until the half-way point by locating it in finder. my mate has constantly tried uploading and sending me the file that seems to be corrupted but it's always the same issue. is there a way i can start the expansion after the corrupted file so i can see the other half of the file or expand each file individually. i also have VLC Rar Loader but for some reason I can't open this individual files in this either. please help, i would greatly appreciate.
thanks in advance, ravi.Consecutive rar files cannot be opened individually. So if you have 10 .rar files, and the 5th one is broken, you can only view items in .rar files 1~4, and parts of 5 if you're lucky.
Sorry, but that's how split compression works. You miiight be able to fix it using some special tool, but I don't know of any that works if the resulting file is supposed to be one giant video file.
In all honesty, you would be better off re-downloading from their origins. -

Error: "File couldn't be opened for writing" with CinemaDNG sequence
Using a Premiere Pro > After Effects workflow with my colorist.
I created a project in Premiere CS6 and used MOV transcodes because Premiere CS6 does not read CinemaDNG sequences. I do not have CC installed on my computer. My colorist, on his computer (we are both using Mavericks), imported the .prproj into AE CS6. We tried to replace MOV files with CinemaDNG sequences, and AE returned this error:

Normally when you replace footage with a CinemaDNG sequence in AE, Adobe Camera Raw pops open so you can make changes before the file is important. I have never seen this error before.
My colorist has CC installed as well as CS6, so we tried that instead.
Colorist opened the Premiere CS6 project in Premiere CC, creating a new Premiere CC project. Replaced MOV files with CinemaDNG sequences within Premiere CC with no error, project plays fine in Premiere CC. Finally! So we imported the new Premiere CC project in AE CC, and all linked CinemaDNG sequences appear as color bars (unlinked footage). When testing to import a CinemaDNG sequence, AE CC returned the same error as AE CS6.
So we tried opening the same CinemaDNG files in Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC to see if there was an error with Camera Raw. Both versions of Photoshop open the CinemaDNG files correctly in Camera Raw (version 8.3). So now we have CinemaDNG files functioning properly in Premiere Pro, Photoshop, but... not AE?
Tried replicating this on a second, Mountain Lion computer with both versions of AE, and returned the same issue.
CinemaDNG files from a different source DID open in AE CC and AE CS6 on both computers, which leads me to believe there is some kind of permissions/metadata issue in this particular set of CinemaDNG files I'm using that's causing problems for AE, but NOT Premiere Pro or Photoshop. Based on the error message, it seems that the Visio Graphics Service is not started or the Enterprise feature is not enabled.
I recommend to check the things below:
Go to Central Administration > System Settings > Manage service on server > check if the Visio Graphics Service is started > then click Application Management > Manage service applications > check if the Visio Graphics Service application
is created.
Go to the root site settings page of the site where you got this error, click Site collection features to check if the SharePoint Server Enterprise Site Collection Features is enabled.

Are you using DeferredWrite? There were bugs in earlier JE releases involving DeferredWrite and database removal/truncation and duplicates. I see from the information in your post that you are using database removal/truncation and duplicates.

I'm trying to convert a book into PDF and I get the error message Couldn't open a file (... <filename>.fm) and the unavailable Fonts dialog box also appears. The tricky thing is I've converted the same book into PDF just a couple of days ago. Now when I tried to do it again, I get the above mentioned error message. I tried unselecting the File > Prefrences > General > Remember Missing Fonts checkbox too. However, it didn't help in generating the PDF. I will be thankful if anyone suggests a suitable workaround for this issue. Thanks in advance.Usually, deselecting Remember missing fonts works.
The missing fonts message displays when you or FrameMaker opens the file. The workaround is to open all the files in the book, or at least those with the "missing" font, clearing the message for each file. Now print the book to PDF, while keeping the files open. This usually works because you have already cleared any missing fonts messages. -
How to Open a rar file with downloaded software
I was bothering this forum yesterday trying to find some way to get a file opened that I had downloaded. Today I discovered that my problem was that "rar" files need their own software to enable them to be opened....So I downloaded the software UnRarX...and it is now sitting on the bottom of my desktop...but I can not get the software into the Applications folder, and so I can not figure out how to use this little package of software to open my "rar" files...
What do I have to do to open my files with this new software???

The UnRarX application should be accessible from your Dock after installing the software. The application icon looks like this:
"How to extract a rar archive?"
1. Launch UnRarX.
2. Drag rar archive into the UnRarX window.
3. Extraction begins automatically.

I have had this problem several times lately: I cannot open a downloaded pdf file. The error message reads: "The file couldn't be opened because it isn't in the correct format." But, of course, it is a pdf file.
My MacBook Pro (2.5 Ghz Intel Core i5) is running OS X 10.9.4. Here is what happens when reading an online user manual that I want to save to the Desktop and read later as a PDF file on my iPad or phone. With Safari I will select "Export As PDF" and the file shows up on the desktop. Even after multiple trials, there will be a dialogue box indicating the file cannot be opened. If I check the file info, the size is "zero." Trying to save the file as a pdf using the Print menu yields the same results. I have tried both of these methods using Preview, Adobe Reader, and PDF Pen Pro. This strange behavior also occurred several weeks ago and I finally abandoned the effort. But when the same thing happens twice, it becomes an issue that needs to be resolved.

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.

If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. petrib, you obviously haven't downloaded many themes in recent years.
Most popular and quality thememakers (even one of the most well known, pizero) out there now distribute themes in ZIPs or RARs because quite often there is more than one version of the theme (changed icons and default icons). The zip/rar keeps the versions together when other sites link to the themes.
Personally I open the zip/rar on a PC then send the required sis/sisx files to the phone using bluetooth.
There is one application that allows you to open rar files on the phone but it requires signing and I am not sure if it can be open signed or not.
