Rare noise on pavilion dv7

Hi every1,
I have a pavilion dv7-4065dx, it was working good, but last days every time i play a video or any song  i hear a noise like a mosquito , this noise appears during 1 or 2 seconds every 30 seconds in a song or a video, also this noise lags the video.
Well, searching in google i've read people with the same problem and they said that they fixed this problem updating the bios , but i do not what to do , because i'm a bit scared of updating the bios.
Help me please, thank you.
Sorry for my bad English.

Hi,
If you have MediaSmart software installed on your notebook, the volume OSD ( on-screen display ) is provided by HP MediaSmart SmartMenu - you can download and reinstall this application from the following link.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45140.exe
When the installation has completed, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load before checking if it now functions correctly.
Regards,
DP-K

My CPU fan has begun to make a rattling noise.  I have cleaned the vent out with compressed air, but that did not help.  Can anyone help me find the correct part # for the fan and also the correct service manual?  I have found 2 or 3 which seem close, but not sure which one is correct.

  • HP Pavilion dv7 doesn't start and I can't install operating system

    Product: HP Pavilion dv7-1125eo
    p/n: NA034EA#UUW
I had Windows 8.1 Pro and I did a virus scan with Malwarebytes-program but I think that it completed before this and didn't find anything. I were also using Youtube and suddenly my computer turned off and it didn't find my hard disk anymore.
    I got errors like:
    03F0
    hard disk not exist
    boot device not found 3F0
no bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key
Diagnostic log shows that I have had that 03F0 and also 0601 error before, but somehow I made my computer to work again. In BIOS it didn't show that there is hard disk, can't test it, but it was an option in boot order, maybe it is always there I don't know.
I tried a trick that going to BIOS five times and always save changes and exit. That kind of worked and I were able to use Windows like 15 min but then computer turned off.
    Windows repairing things:
Windows Automatic repair -> The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again.
Startup repair -> Startup repair couldn't repair your PC.
I used live Linux Mint from my USB stick and it worked good. I formatted my USB stick and tried to reinstall Windows but if I remember correctly it didn't recognize my hard drive.
I thought that maybe my hard disk is broken and I took my Fujitsu Siemens Storagebird Serial ATA WD 250GB external hard drive out of its case and put it inside my laptop. It fitted there well so I tried to install windows into that. First it didn't recognize that hard drive either but when I tried many times and changed it inside laptop between slot 1 and 2
it finally showed in Windows installation screen. Installing always stopped at 16 or 19% and formatting didn't help.
I also formatted my USB stick and made it installation media again but same thing.
Then I thought that maybe I have wrong Windows 8 Pro product key, an upgrade only so I tried to install Windows Vista because it were a factory installed OS. It either didn't recognize my hard drive in Windows installing screen, but this one can be tested in BIOS.
Taking CMOS battery out for hours and trying with only one memory or both hard disks didn't work.
Do I need to install some drivers from DVD during the Windows installation or is the hard disk connections broken or what is the problem? Can't I repair it by myself?
I'm tired of trying these magic tricks so I really hope that someone can help me. Otherwise I need to buy a new laptop or use it with my USB stick and its live Linux ;( Also battery is dead so it doesn't exist anymore and fan makes noises sometimes and computer gets hot. I'm getting amused when trying to fix it even though almost nothing doesn't work anymore but it's hard to let go of it because I have repaired it so many times and even though it's old it's been working the last year well before this
I didn't know where to post this because I don't know what the real problem is.

    Hey @mnbvc ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you're unable to install Windows on another HDD after experiencing an HDD failure.
The hard drive not found error would indicate the drive has failed. Not being able to test the drive confirms this.
-Source: Resolve Boot Device not Found Error Message.
The upgrade key you use only applies to the Windows Upgrade ISO and will not allow a fresh install of the operating system if it has nothing to build on, so you are correct in trying the Vista install. When you attempt to install VIsta are you using the HP Recovery Media or are you using the Windows Vista ISO? I would assume the drive that was installed in your notebook was larger than 250GB and would explain why an HP Recovery would fail during formatting but would not explain why the install failed if it was a licensed Windows ISO.
Have you tried installing Linux onto the HDD instead of using a USB boot? This will help you test the validity of the HDD.
You can try downloading a version of Windows 8.1 and skip the license key to activate the 30 day trial. (Search Google for Windows 8.1 Pro ISO downloads). Once installed activate Windows using the license key you purchased for an upgrade which theoretically should work.
Let me know if that helps or if installing Linux to the HDD fails as well.

  • Pavilion DV7-3100eb

    I have a problem with a Pavilion DV7-3100eb with i5 processor.
Lately I noticed that the fan is constantly running and making a lot of noise + CPU gets hot. As soon as 2 two applications are running it even shuts down. I installed the latest BIOS but that didn't solve the problem. It is impossible to continue using this PC. Anyone experienced teh same problem? Any advice is highly appreciated.

    Hi @mhendricks1290
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are have trouble with what seems like a system recovery or a system restore. There is a difference in the two, but you refer to it both ways, so I am not absolutely certain which it is you are doing. But I will try to help as I can.
Please verify the full product number of your notebook. See the following document if you need help in finding that.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
With that I can find the correct driver page for you which may be useful, especially with the type of error you are seeing.
Assuming you are using system restore, check out this page:
Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows Vista)
If on the other hand, you are doing a system recovery, I recommend that you back up any data you can first, as otherwise, it will normally reimage the system to factory defaults. If you need some help with that check out this page which covers a few ways to try to get data off of a computer that is not starting.
How to Recover Data from the Hard Drive of a Dead Laptop -wikihow.com
Then you can look at these pages showing the methods and some troubleshooting for recovery:
Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows Vista)
System Recovery May Fail or Display Error Message (Windows 7, or Vista)
Performing an HP System Recovery from a USB Flash Drive (Windows Vista)
Let me know if that helped at all.

  • Microphone issue with pavilion dv7

I got a Pavilion dv7 for Xmas (don't ask me which model, as I can't find it using any of HP's help info!!!). I used a microphone with it, no problems. Recorded great, everything went smooth as pie. After the system auto-updated (it's the only possible cause i can find, as no other changes were made), now my external mic will not work worth poop. The recording levels are extremely low, tons of noise. I know it's not the mic, as it works OK on other machines. I can find no documentation to help me work with the Beats Audio system. Can anyone please help before I throw the computer or myself out a window!!!!!

I bought this HP Pavilioh dv7 w/Windows 7 Pro on it around November 30, 2012.  I never bothered trying to do anything with the microphone until this month.  I find that if there is no attached mic it will not record at all, although after spending 5 hours on support with HP they could not come up with a solution.  If I attach an external mic it will barely record anything.  I haven't been able to find any way to adjust mic settings and am at a loss.  Earlier in this string it was suggested to go to device manager and revert to the previous driver.  However, when I go there there is no previous driver to revert to.  An external microphone will record a little if I yell in to it.  I don't want this to be my first experience with HP, that a simple device fails and the whole unit will have to be shipped in for hardware replacement.  Any information you can advise I will be glad to try.  I am a fairly skilled user, therefore I am likely to be able to execute whatever is needed.  Bill Harpe.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-6025eo FAN ISSUE

How do I access the fan to a hp pavilion dv7-6025eo?? it makes sooo annoying noises, like some creep is attached to one of the blades and makes the fan instable... There are alot of guides on a dv-7 series notebook but none of them show on this model which has a different top cover... I just want to be able to see if there is something on the blades on the fan so I can remove it... did they really have to make it so difficult to access.........! thanks for advice

There ain't much left except the button board. If I recall, on that model the power button board is connected to the motherboard with a ribbon cable so there is no failsafe button on the motherboard. If the button board switch is bad there is no way to start it up.

  • Is it possible to upgrade/add a graphics card to a Pavilion dv7-7000 laptop?

I've been doing a lot of research lately, to mostly no avail, about whether or not my HP Pavilion dv7-7025dx laptop can have a dedicated GPU added to it, as currently it only has the integrated Intel HD 4000 Mobile graphics card.
Mostly I've come across the unfortunate agreement that most laptops cannot have their graphics cards upgraded/swapped out, since the graphics card is soldered on to the motherboard. However, after talking to an HP "support representative", they said they believed it was possible to add a graphics card, as long as it is compatible with the HM77 45W UMA Motherboard my computer has.
Furthermore, after finding the maitenence and service manual online for my computer ( http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03221579.pdf ) it says that it could have come with switchable graphics, specifically the Nvidia Geforce 630M or 650M.
So I am wondering, is it really at all possible to add a dedicated graphics card, either by having switchable graphics or something else? Or am I stuck with the integrated Intel HD graphics?
If I can upgrade/add a new card, where would I be able to find/buy a compatible one, and would I be able to install it myself or would I need to go to a local computer repair?
My laptop is the HP Pavilion dv7-7025dx Entertainment Notebook.
It has an Intel Core i7- 3610QM CPU @ 2.30 GHz, 8GB memory, 750GB hard drive (5400 rpm).
I am currently running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (64-bit).

    Hi,
You can't add a dedicated graphics card to the system like this. The vga is soldered to the board so no way you can just plug it in like on a desktop. However, you can buy a new motherboard with the dedicated graphics card on it. It also requires a new heat sink.
    Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03221579.pdf
You need a 682040-001 board plus 682061-001 heat sink to have a dedicated graphics card on your laptop. Have a look on ebay for the part numbers.

  • Pavilion dv7 - Can I add a second hard drive?

    Hi,
This model allows to use 2 HDD's. Max capacity is 500 GB.
To install second drive you will need Hard Drive Caddy and Cable Connector. You may buy them here.
Here is service documentation for your model. On page 46 you may check where you may install secondary hard drive.

  • Graphic card for hp pavilion dv7-3152

    Hi all!
I have a hp pavilion dv7-3152ca I bought some time ago. For some weeks now, the laptop became a bit strange, shutting down by itself randomly with Power Kernel error 41 on win7 64.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=fr&lc=fr&dlc=fr&docname=c02143694
After checking some place, i've seen it could come from overheating so cleaning would be a good move. After disassembling the whole thing (you have to remove any single part to do such!), problem still occurs. So it does not come from heating.
I know it can come from several thing but as my video card is messy for a while (the vga output does not work anymore, had to buy a hdmi to vga converter to use laptop for ppt), I guess it could be the reason.
Now, problem: which card and where to buy!?
What kind of specs should i check for? I mean on pc, it's easy with mobo, you can get ref but for laptop... and as the laptop is not anymore under warranty, no way to get any kind of support from HP (good job guys, way to go...)
    Any inputs?
    Thanks

If the video card is bad, it will mean replacing the whole motherboard. The video chip is soldered to it. If you need help finding the part let us know.
