  • Is there any way to edit an email address in the iPad mail app once it has been highlighted?

To try and clarify the above, when I type an email address in the address field, in the Mail app, and then hit the space bar, the email address becomes highlighted. If I then want to edit the email address I cannot for the life of me work out how to do it without deleting it and typing it out again.

Neither can I. I just think that is the way the app works. If there is a way, I would like to know myself.

I have a  macbook, an ipad, and an iphone with the Mail app on all three synced through icloud, but when I read and delete emails on my phone, the inbox on my ipad is not update, so I have to go through and mark as read or delete messages again. How can I sync my iphone and ipad? (it seems like each is synced only to my laptop, so don't synchronize until I go home and use my laptop.

POP: yahoo, aol, comcast/time warnder/road runner
Imap: google, hotmail, and more including icloud.
If you want to use multiple devices - move to imap, I would even say "exchange", but Google does not support free exchange anymore, since January of that year. So Ironically  Icloud or Hotmail would be my choices right now.
To find out more about what happens to you, search on Google "difference between pop and imap"

  • Display of RE: and FW: messages generated in mail.app

II am the sole Mac user in a 100+ person company. (I run the company so IT tolerates me.) After receiving many complaints about unpredictable display of FW: and RE: messages sent from mail.app (leopard and snow leopard), I gave up and converted to Outlook '11. Hated it. Airplane pilots have fewer buttons, ribbons, etc., on their control panels. So, I'm back to Mail.app and newly determined to solve, or at least understand, the issue.
Posting what I've discovered here in the hope someone can shed light on it or, better yet, fix it.
What I discovered is that a message with embedded graphics in it (e.g., a company logo .gif embedded in a signature) generated in mail.app will display very differently in different email clients and settings.
In iphone (iOS 4) the message renders perfectly. No issue.
In Mail.app received via exchange, the message also appears to render perfectly. No issue.
However, it's a different story in Outlook '08 for Windows and '11 for Mac) BUT ALSO in Mail on the iPad. AND also if the message is viewed from the sent items folder in the very application (Mail.app) in which it was created. Here's what happens.
Text before the embedded image is rendered correctly. But after that, everything is displayed as an attachment. The embedded image is displayed an attachment. So too is any text that follows it. (ATT0001.htm). If there are multiple embedded images with text in between them, you'll get a string of attachments (image001.gif, ATT0001.htm, image002.gif, ATT0002.htm, etc.)
(Note that I have already done everything I know to make things clean and windows friendly. Mail.app is set to windows friendly attachments. Iconizer is installed. Mail.app is also set to send re: and fw: messages at the same level to avoid formatting issues different levels might create. )
I'm not a coder, but I did take a look at the source code. What I noticed is that mail.app treats a message with embedded graphics very differently than one without. A message with just text (even when sent as HTML format) is just text. A message with embedded graphics has the first bit (before the first graphic) as text, then the first graphic, then, the next bit of text is an HTML file, and so on. Apparently, mail on the iphone can recognize this and render properly. Not so others. The question is why Mail turns text bits into HTML files this way?
Now, the good news is, having isolated the problem, I've solved most of it by simply eliminating embedded graphics (including a logo in my signature) from my emails. Still, I often forward or re: to long strings that do include these graphics. Not so good.
    Thoughts?

IMO, if you want to send magazines, then e-mail isn't the vehicle. Better to create PDF files and send them as attachments. This problem you're running into has to do with poorly followed standards in all those e-mail clients and attempting to send magazines as messages. Stick to plain text and there aren't any issues. • HT5361 Is there a way to find and erase duplicate emails in mail.app?

Is there a way to find and erase duplicate emails in mail.app?

Mail.app does not have this possiblility acc. to Apple. There are Scripts but not provided by Apple.
A solution can be to use third party software but I prefer Apples own software so have to wait until there is an update.

  • How translate Subject and body for a e-mail task to different languages ?

We have several tasks with their corresponding subject and body text in a workflow.
We would like to know if there is an easy way to translate all of them to several languages ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Juan.

    Hi Juan,
The translation tools don't translate the subjects. I've found the best way to save yourself headaches is to log on in each target language and edit each task. Slightly longer but more reliable, simple and problem-free.
    Cheers,
    Mike

  • Is there a way to remove Exchange global address list from phone/Mail app?

I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 7.0.3. Wondering if there is a way I can prevent an Exchange global address list from loading when I compose a message. I am only syncing Mail - not contacts or calendars. Also tried dropping and re-adding account to see if that did anything. This is a personal phone connected to company's Exchange account (legitimately) - I would like to reduce the chance that I incorrectly email a company employee from my personal account when composing a message.

That is what I expected Chris, but to answer your question - yes. I have two accounts setup with the Mail app - Gmail and Exchange. Gmail is the default even. When I am in the Gmail account, compose a new message, just typing "john" for example, brings up most recently used john's first, then all the Johns in my company. I really would prefer not to even have those names populate. Not sure if that can be prevented without dropping the Exchange mail account altogether. That is my question - and thank you for your reply.

  • How do I make my @me (iCloud) address showup in iOS mail app?

I have an existing AppleID which I used to set up my iCloud account. During that process, it gave me my new @me.com email address. I then set up iCloud on both my iPhone 4 and iPad (after upgrading both to iOS5). However, the @me.com email address does not show up in my accounts in the mail app. Of course, in settings, the iCloud account is there among all my other email accounts, but just not in the actual mail app itself. In other words, how can I actually use and send from this new @me.com address on my iOS5 devices?

  • Mail Security certificate issue and cannot send email from mail app on surface 2

well im have the same issue like others and coincidently we all started to have this issue just recently like few days ago. Please help us out as on the surface 2 mail app my Hotmail account ( The main account )
cannot send mails and on the account setting it says there is a problem with the server security certificate. So how to fix it ???

Does this issue only happen with Hotmail account? Have you tested the account in other mail programs or send a email via web mail in a browser? What is the result if we delete the account then recreate the account?

  • Yosemite is recreating plist and other files deleted in Mail.app

    First, excuse my poor English.
This happens several times: files I used to delete (like the previous recipients list in mail.app or the signaturas in Mail) are recreated automatically...
That's strange, even if I trash the files, and reboot, the miles are full of information and recreated again and this is a problem for me since I want to delete them to recréate brand new ones with good information. Whah's happening in Yosemite ? Where this information is stored ? I wonder....
Here is one precise exemples in mail.app:
    - I want to trash the signatures files in mail.app.
Usually i went to my user/Library/Mail/V2/Maildata and delete the whole folder Signatures.
Now I trash the folder but when I reopen Mail all my signatures are recreated....
I wonder where it comes from....
I need to delete this folder because i have a problem switching signature...

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder—not just its contents—to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window.
Important: This action will delete any signatures and custom Mail stationery that you created. If you want to preserve that data, ask for instructions.
If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Incorrect sender name, subject, and photo being displayed in Mail

For many of my emails, the wrong persons name, photo and subject are being displayed for emails.
Anyone have this happen to them? And does anyone know how to resolve it? We've tried reinstalling the software.

    I get something very similar.
I send an email message and it goes to the correct recipient, and the long header says it goes to the correct recipient. However, the one line header in the mail window showing me all my mail says it has gone to someone else. It seems to happen randomly, and the name seems to be a random name from my address book. It does not happen to all my mail (maybe one message in 50).
It gives me a heart attack every-time because I think I have made a mistake.

  • Subject and Address boxes have blue background not white

Thunderbird 31.1.2 running on Win 7 Pro 64 bit clean installation.
    Apologies for sound harsh, but...
I have seen a few posts related to this but I fail to understand why removing the boxes with a clear white background for addresses and subject lines (except on hover and input) was considered to be a beneficial change.
I work as an IT tutor - generally on a one-to-one basis with older people - and this type of change is particularly annoying.
    1) There is no reason for the change.
    2) The change is detrimental to usability. The appearance of the screen changes while entering addresses and email subjects. It must stay the same while entering information otherwise it can create confusion.
    3) Older people need familiarity, not gimmicks! Just because you can doesn't mean that you should! Usability is key; I shouldn't have to 'discover' that the old address and subject boxes are still there by hovering the pointer over where they may be. Everything must be clearly visible.
    4) Having important information on a coloured background with no clearly defined boxes is poor.
This information must be clear and not blend in with the background.
Please tell me when this important part of the email will be changed back to how it was with clearly defined boxes with a white background that is visible at all times, not just when I go looking.
Please remember that there are many more older people using computers these days and it is exactly this sort of change that causes confusion and loss of confidence.
I appreciate that this is all voluntary, but I keep on finding instances of software upgrades (not just Mozilla) where changes have been made to the user interface for no apparent reason.

I understand that my posting may have appeared harsh, but I did read other posts on this topic and none of the ones I saw actually stated that the changes to the address/subject area were not going to be changed back.
Please could you direct me to the relevant posts.
As this is a collaborative project how would I know who has the final say on changes anyway?
Having said that my original comments still stand.
The change to the styling of the address/subject boxes was completely unnecessary and does not improve usability.

  • How do I import my email and address book from Netscape mail 7.1?

I've been using Netscape Mail 7.1 since it first came out, but I'm moving to the Apple Mac world and need to keep my old emails. I've been told by the Apple Genius Bar people that I could do this with Thunderbird.

In the absence of anything to the contrary I will assume a US version http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/3.1.20/win32/en-US/
Thunderbird 3.1 is linked. stable and has the necessary bits.

  • UAG SP4 and Windows 8.1 native mail app

    Hello,
I'm found that now SP4 for UAG is available. On the description of the SP4, it states the following: "Users can use the built-in Mail application on Windows 8.1 computers to connect to a published Microsoft Exchange server." What kind of Exchange
publication is that one? Is Outlook Anywhere? I would like to use this feature but I don't know what kind of Exchange publication is this.
    Thank you!

Windows Mail Application Support IMAP and Exchange ActiveSync so in your case I believe you need to publish the ActiveSync to make it work
