RAT Testing
Hi
Our applications are currently hosted on a SAN on HP UX boxes. We have SAN migration from 1 DC to another DC. The hardware infra might remain the same on new boxes.
Please advise if we can use Real Application testing for DB performance testing. will it be a ideal scenario to use RAT or RAT can be used only for upgration scenarios and not underlying hardware changes scenarios.
If anyone has previously used RAT for 10.2.0.4, please shed some more lights on how to use the tool, the lisensing cost and cost reduction?
Thanks
This is a perfect scenario for Real Application Testing. Real Application Testing can be use to test any kind of change to the database tier tech stack including hardware, O/S, and storage changes.

A new FOC is setup to connect our ONS to a far-end optical system (unknown)belonging to another carrier. I want to test the FOC connection for errors, is ONS intelligent to do that?
Hmmm⦠I think I am followingâ¦.
Typically, if you wanted to test a circuit you can either, A.) use two test sets, one at each end of the circuit, and insert a test pattern to determine the health of the connection, B.) use a single test set on one end of the circuit, insert a test pattern, and loop-back the far end of the circuit so the signal returns to the test set.
In most cases, a carrier that you are interconnecting with will not allow you to remotely control their terminal equipment, such as with a FEAC (far end activation code). Thus, you would probably need to have the carrier loop back the circuits on their terminal equipment. This type of testing is typical when interconnecting through a third-party carrier.
Doing some research on cisco.com, it looks as though, beginning in R8.5, bit error rate testing (BERT) has been activated on a couple of the 15454 SONET electrical interface cards (See into below). This should allow the user to create a DS-1 circuit, set-up a loopback on the far-end, then have the card insert a DS-1 test pattern and monitor the returned signal for errors. This feature was discussed many years ago but I have not seen its final implementation.
Release 8.5 (Release Notes)
Bit Error Rate Testing
The Bit Error Rate Testing (BERT) feature can be used to test the connectivity, error rate, and error count of the traffic running on an electrical IO card port. The BERT feature is currently supported for Cisco ONS 15454 DS1/E1-56 and DS3XM-12 electrical cards only.
BERT is broadly classified into two components-Test Pattern Generator (TPG) and Test Pattern Monitor (TPM), and is collectively called Test Pattern Generator Monitor (TPGM).
TPGM generates and monitors test patterns like PRBS15, PRBS20, PRBS23, QRSS and ATL1s0s (alternating ones and zeroes). TPGM can inject and monitor errors in the test pattern for both single bit and multirate (1.0E-3, 1.0E-4, 1.0E-5 and 1.0E-6) errors..

Thnx3dmark is good for video test...ie games
sandra is good for burn in and bech marks
prime amd memtest are for mem and testing stability.
comanche4 bench is a good video card frame rate test and fun to watch
you may have to run it twice the fist time didn't work for me
but i used it to see how much oc ing made a diff
fraps is another frame rate grabber but i havent used that one -
A designer made this page for me:
http://www.kenweingart.com/rates.htm
What's great is that if I have more text to type the table below just pushes down.
My problem now is what if I now have less text?
I've tried grabbing the handles below the MISCELLANEOUS NOTES, section to elminate the white space at bottom and can't get it all to push up.
Here is code -- thanks:

<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><strong>STUDIO
VS. LOCATION</strong></font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Not many
photographers do both well, but that choice is what you
both want and need., Many photographers don’t want
to bother with location shooting since it can involve problems
with the wind, hair issues, and even squinting, yet the
benefit is often greater translucent light with creamy
and interesting backgrounds. </font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Conversely,
many photographers don’t know how to master light
in studio. Yet when done well, studio shots give you crisp,
sharp eyes and compelling expressions with beautiful white,
grey, and black backdrops. An artistic photographer can
also manipulate many types of studio lighting, from soft
and flat to bright and striking, some with moody dramatic
shadows and textures. Regardless, the key is maintaining
options, and that is why you want someone who can do it
all well. </font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><strong>HORIZONTAL
VS. VERTICAL</strong></font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Once
again, it’s best to use a photographer who can do
both. Horizontal offers the painterly and arty look that
catches people’s imagination, while verticals are
the industry standard and look great on the web. It’s
all about options, variety, and maximizing your choices. Regardless, as a photographer who has also shot for dozens
of magazines, I can offer you the unique look and experience
of being photographed in a personal style that fits your
own precise needs.</font></p>

</body></html>Your site was built using tables, whose sizes are defined in your site.
If we look at your first table definition, we can see:
<table width="861" height="1449" border="3" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bordercolor="#868787">
Your table has a width of 861 pixels and an overall height of 1449 pixels. Anything you put into that overall box must fit those dimensions, else
it won't be visible. Anything you add above it will push everything down. You can redefine your sizing to let you edit more inside of the table elements.
This is why, when you type in more text, things act weird. If you are in Dreamweaver, you must find the right cell to put your text into and then enter
text there. Unfortunately, this is going to push things around, which were all lined up using tables. And this gets everything offset with respect to
everything else in your website.
And that is why everyone is saying, "Start Over!"
I just inherited a website that has been put together using tables. I'm going to have to expend considerable effort in rewriting the entire design of the
website because of that. because everything I intend to add to the pages on the site is going to need to be deconstructed in order to get it to work
properly if I'm adding text and pictures that need to line up with each other.
You need something done quick and dirty and the only way I can recommend you do that is to use Dreamweaver to show you the tables you have
and put what you need in a new table that is defined above or below the tables you all ready have defined. Do that and then get back to someone here
who knows how to make a website correctly to clean up your entire website and make it editable -- which will cost you some money, but it will be
money well-spent.
I like to quote this maxim: Good, Fast, Cheap. Pick any two. This works for website design. You can get it fast and cheap, but it won't be good. I
think you may have chosen that route. -
"Watch what you want, when you want". Do me a favo...
First time on the forum and oh how I wish I'd done my research on here before ordering a BT package. I wouldn't have touched this service with a barge pole if I knew then what I know now.
From day 1 "you dont have to be at home to receive your equipment,we'll leave it in a safe place for you". Yep,very safe. It was in the local sorting office. So a 2 hour wait for that to open and a 6 mile round trip to collect.
So now we're up and running except no On Demand (the reason I opted for Bt).OK online help says it can take up to ten days to "stabilise",but meantime just pay for it and shut up. If I had switched electricty supplier would I be expected to pay for ten days before I could switch a light on? I think not.
Four days in I decide to call technical help who go through all the checks I have previously done, no joy there. Operator thinks I could benefit from a bb accelerator contradicting the online help as I have no extensions and my hub is straight in to the master socket. She thinks maybe its best I wait ten days.
Second operator thinks maybe I should wait ten days. He finally gets a grip of what I'm telling him and organises an engineer.
Four days later an engineer appears. He says only eight days have passed maybe its best I wait......you get my drift?
Now we're talking. He has a brand new hub and V+ box. This should do the trick he says. Hmmm, it did for all of 5 minutes. Oh maybe its not the magic ten days after all he thinks, its an external fault and he's not that type of engineer but he'll do his best and pass on the message, hopefully I should hear something within 48 hours.
Has anyone on the forum managed to cancel without penalty? How can it possibly be legal for BT to take money from me and provide nothing? Two hours later. These are the results. Alas no change in the On demand.

Weird and Wonderfull BB-Vision / Experts and Mods ...
I have some questions about slow Broadband, Vision V04 error message and an IPlayer Code 0 error message (at end of this message).
IMO the Vision V04 and IPlayer issues are directly associated with unreliable and inconsistent Broadband.
Background
I have raised this issue a number of times in the past through the BT Complaints procedure, 30-06-2010, 11-08-2010, 04-06-2011, 07-06-2011, and today. I have also phoned the 0800-111-4567 help line a number of times with regard to the same issue.
As an indication the following is a Total Broadband graph of my speed results, from November 2010 through to 25-06-2011.
I have been taking ADSL Stats and BT Speedtester results, which I record to a spreadsheet, since May and three times a day since the beginning of June. I can post some of these results if it will help.
An engineer came on the 9th June, fitted an ADSL v 1.0 plate and disconnected the earth wire. During the visit the engineer checked my line and stated that it was fine and should be capable of BB speeds in excess of 4.0 mbps (actually should be able to get up to 5.0 mbps). I contacted BT on the 14th June to switch me back from fast to interleaved, which was done later that day. The switch to fast was done a few weeks earlier at the suggestion of a person on the help line.
From the 14th June, after the switch to interleaved, BB speed was relatively stable although there was a restart about twenty four hours later not initiated by me. From this time, 15th June through to the 21st June, almost six days without any restarts, noise margin stayed reasonably consistent at between 14.0 dB and 15.0 dB (down). Other stats also stayed reasonably consistent with speeds in the 2.7 mbps range and an IP Profile of 3.0 mbps.
On the evening of the 21st June there was another (automatic-system) restart. Since then all stats have fluctuated drastically. Noise margin has generally increased to the current figure of 28.8 dB (down). Attenuation has occasionally increased to 45.0 and 47.0 dB but then falls back to the consistent level of 43.0 dB. Power output has also occasionally varied and is at the current level of 15.6 dBm (down). I also have high FEC Errors and Error Seconds. CRC and HEC Errors are generally low.
Over the past five to six days restarts have been happening on a daily basis usually between 16.00 and 17.00 hours. Monitoring the line stats during this period shows that the noise margin reduces to below 1.0 dB (probably 0), this happens within minutes until the broadband signal disappears. Approximately five minutes later it will re-establish. This sometimes happens more than once. During this time the Hub broadband light turns orange and flashes until the connection is re-established when it turns a solid blue. Last night and this morning the BT Speedtester failed with the message unable to complete the Assured Rate test.
The hub is connected direct to the main telephone plate.
I have also noted that Openreach have been working in Fawley-Holbury, and around the 23rd June there was a fault in theSouthampton area that affected 0238 numbers (my exchange number). Apparently this fault was resolved.
I have also noted noise on the telephone line using the 17070-2 silent line test.
One final point, a neighbour also has a HomeHub2. Checking my network connections the neighbour’s hub consistently gives a higher wireless output than mine. This is surprising as my hub is only three to four metres away from my pc whereas the neighbours must be a minimum of at least ten to fifteen metres and behind two external brick walls, maybe more.
I purchased the HomeHub2, in October 2008, it is a V 2.0 Type A (firmware 8.1.H.J updated 18-03-2011; it was not supplied free with BT Vision. I have had BT Vision since December 2008, I have the silver STB.
I have just done a complete system reset of the Hub and Vision box, plugged the vision box direct in to Port 1 on the Hub, Port 2 goes to the master Powerline adaptor. The slave Powerlines are plugged in to a Blu-ray player and an old laptop. The ADSL Stats improved but the assured rate test still failed.
Questions
1/. Is my HomeHub2 defunct should I get an alternative?
2/. Is my telephone line the cause of the problem or are both the hub and line defective.
3/. Why is a neighbour’s Homehub giving a stronger wireless signal than mine.
4/. I seem to be able to use ‘on demand’ and the IPlayer with Best Effort and Assured Rate speeds far below the recommended 2.0 mbps (not complaining but this is not reliable).
5/. How can my Assured Rate speed test result be higher than the Best Effort test, when my Assured Rate IP Profile is 600 kbps, example Best Effort 873 kbps, Assured Rate 1230 kbps.
6/. With and AR IP Profile of 600 kbps how can I achieve speeds in excess of 2000 kbps (several occasions), highest recorded 2996 kbps with a BE of 3684 kbps, with a BE IP Profile of 2500 kbps.
7/. Why should the hub output power vary?
8/. Can RFI (radio frequency interference) cause problems? I am close to the Fawley Refinery and the Solent, theSolentwill have ships and ferries with radar and there are possibly microwaves near by and I am about 400-500 metres from a mobile phone mast. I am also 400-500 metres from overhead high voltage power lines, which distribute from the Fawley Power Station, but this is only used as a stand-by so I have ruled out interference from these. This does not appear to affect other ISP’s from the Fawley exchange. (See the Think Broadband map).

Thanks for the comments. I tried to register a fault and did a test on my phone line through the BT.com (MyBT) site. It said there was no problem with my line. I followed this with a 17070-2 silent line test and as far as I was concerned it was noisy. I will wait a few days to let my curent complaint work through the system and then phone BT and report a noisy line. My current stats are as follows;

As you can see the BT Speedtester site is still not giving me any results. The Think Broadband and Speedtest.net sites are indicating only 300-400 kbps.
My wireless has improved slightly, I downloaded inSSIDer 2.0 software and it shows my HomeHub2 neighbour is on a different channel. This is also true for the other wireless BB in the area.. Probably why my signal strength has improved. -
Tearing on VGA output, LVDS OK on 950GMA with xf86-video-intel-2.6.10
I'm crossposting this message i sent on intel-graphics ml and xorg bugzilla, because maybe some of you can point me to a solution.
i own an asus eeepc1005ha, it uses intel gma 950.
Playing a video on the internal LVDS panel is very pleasing and tear
free, but as soon as i connect the vga output, i can notice tearing or
flickering on the picture.
I tried all possible configurations:
-Booting with the lid open (tty on LVDS) and then switching to xorg
with a VGA only output. (VGA tears)
-Booting with the lid closed (tty on VGA) and using xorg on VGA. (VGA tears)
-VGA+LVDS in clone mode (VGA and LVDS tears)
-VGA+LVDS in multihead mode (expanded desktop) (VGA and LVDS tears)
Using xv adaptor via mplayer results in a different tear effect, seems
more like a flickering, while the GL output definitely tears.
I couldn't try overlay adaptor because i don't have a 2.6.33 kernel yet
(believe it or not, i've seen overlay tearing too with an old intel
driver in the past, i think 2.7.1, in a cloned mode if lvds was at
60hz, while vga was at 70hz)
I'm using xf86-video-intel 2.10.0 and kernel 2.6.32.9
I used the framerate test videos available here:
http://spng.se/frame-rate-test/
Thanks for reading.

About your command, i'll try, but what it does is just picking the first port from first adaptor, right?
By now (xf86-video-intel 2.10.0 and kernel 2.6.32.9), we just have a single adaptor, the textured one;
why the first port should make a difference?
Maybe with your setup the overlay adaptor was picked, and in 99% of the cases that would certanly help.
As a side note, newer mplayer versions comes with an useful option: -vo xv:adaptor=#
What i think is that vblank interrupts generation is (and was) messed up in the drivers code.

BT Homehub, reboots on its own
So here is the problem that I have been suffering with for 18+ months. I am on my 3rd Homehub, have replaced all filters and cables each time. Had BT engineer out to look at my line and STILL my homehub reboots all by itself, every few days, regardless of the time of day or whether it being used. I do not notice any issues with my Internet access while the hub is working and when it reboots it soon establishes a connection. This has been an inconvenience up until now when I am working from home more often and I see the my bill for BT each month.
The hub has this firmware - Software version 8.1.H.J (Type A)
and this is what I see in the event log
Any advice most welcome?

Home Hub 3 with low sync speed
Excuse a newbie who's somewhat jealous of people complaining how they only get 8Mbps!
A combination of factors means that for months I have been getting a sync of 2624-3040, which equates to a profile of 2000-2500 and resultant download speeds of 1650-2250 using my old Voyager 2091. Then about a year ago, after fitting an I-plate etc. etc. I was achieving fairly consistent downloads at 2200 - so I asked for BT Vision. I can't comment on it, because almost immediately my download speed dropped and my profile was set back to 2000 so Vision was a waste of space. This didn't correct over time, so at the end of September I called up and an engineer came to test my line, swapped me to a new pair due to earthing issues and said I might want to replace my trusty old voyager. All this disruption still had negligible effect, so around Xmas I obtained a Home Hub 3.
Bad to worse - in the last week I have had to reboot the HH3 at least 5 times (so I'll never get to the end of my BRAS training period) and whereas before I could watch Iplayer etc. 95% of the time, now it seems incapable of streaming for more than half an hour, before the speed drops below an acceptable limit. I'm close to junking the HH3 and going back to the Voyager.
Is this normal? I've read about the HH3 dropping speeds on contention - am I seeing the issue because this makes my speed unusable? (A drop of 1Mb on an 8Mb speed might be annoying, but for me it's fatal!) or do I have a rogue hub .... in which case, what do I do?Results fresh in as you'll see - internet froze again 20 minutes ago and forced ANOTHER reboot.
With regards to your standard questions - as you'll see from my earlier post, I had a BT engineer in with me for over 4 hours in September, so all the "normal" tests were done, internal wiring checked, quiet line test was done from the master socket, he even swapped me to a new pair with better earth. There are 3 extension and the NTE5, all filtered. .... oh and neighbours with another provider achieve 2K+ constantly.
I am not now connected to the NTE5, but the engineer cut the bell wire and it has an I-Plate anyway (belt & braces!). During tests with him and for 3 weeks after (without a reboot) the router was connected directly to the master socket and it made no difference, except weakening the wireless signal to my office. So I am again connected to my office extension socket, as before, and the move had no discernable effect on sync since October.
So I'm not really expecting much on sync, live in a rural area, 2.5 clicks from the exchange (ADSL/POTS) but have a line length of over 4Km using the normal calcuation, probably with lovely aluminium along the way.
I'm just gobsmacked that the new Hub appears to be unfit for purpose, drops the download speed at the drop of a hat and freezes up on a regular basis .... so this is my final fling before jacking it and probably joining my neighbours with a provider who CAN offer an improvement.

Slow broadband speed and a lack of customer care -...
I am so close to throwing in the towel with BT. The service I receive is both inconsistent and laughable, the customer care is non-existent and the price I pay is more than VirginMedia.
Why do I stay? Why do I persist with an organisation who are just not interested?
Anyway.
My broadband speed veers from 500Kb to 2Mb, but BT Technical insist I am capable of receiving 8-10Mb
The full story of my latest attempt to deal with BT Technical is here: http://brennigjones.com/blog/?p=2776
I am really at the end of my tolerance and tether, but if anyone can help with a last-ditch throw of the dice, please let me know - otherwise I'm off to VirginMedia.

BT Infinity Insufficient bandwidth to run iPlayer ...
Having problems with BT Infinity. Despite new modem, speed is slower than ever.
Support line link up took 30 minutes but operator unable to progress the matter and put us in a queue to the engineers - nearly 2 hours later I hung up in despair.
Emailed a complaint to BT using their recommended procedure and 24 hours later I have not had a reply as promised in the blurb.
I would like compensation for 2 weeks of slow Internet and for a ruined afternoon. Most important of all I want someone on my case to fix the BT Infinity so that I receive the service I pay top dollar for.
Why must such a prestigious company be so remote and insensitive. I have never been so badly treated in my life.
To add insult to injury we took part in a post phone-call survey with options for satisfaction of 1 through 7 with the latter being the worst. We felt that 7 was appropriate in this case but the system would not accept this score. ???????Hi again
Ran the tests you suggested - results are listed below
Download Speeds
36 Mbps
Upload Streaming
8.35 Mbps
Assured Rate Test
34.2 Mbps
Video Service Quality Test
passed
Why would we experience streaming problems with such, apparantly, good test results?
Your help has been much appreciated. -
Huge drop in speed from yesterday
Hi
I posted on here a while back and received a lot of good advise about many BB issues that can be "unleashed" on the unsuspecting. Since then, I must be honest, my line has been quite stable and the speeds remained constant, that is until this morning.
The first figures are from last nights speedtester results

As I cannot run another Speedtester for a few hours I have "binned" the HH2 after reading all about many issues and gone over to my BB Business Router as used by GD. I will now monitor the readings from that to see if there is anything untoward happening, and post later if required.
In the meantime, can anyone suggest why there should be such a huge drop from yesterday, as all the profiles have remained the same? I had not changed anything prior to the test and there are no issues from my end.
Steve
The older I get, the faster I was!hi steve,
um one word would explaing hte change in achieved download speed and that is ;
congestion
your stats havend changed only the availability of bandwidth for data throughput, its quite common on exchanges with lots of connections for htis to happen during peek times (all day at weekends and roughly 5pm>midnight weekdays)
that you should see such a dramatic change would suggest that a lot of people are online at the same time in your area and all sharing the same ammount of bandwitch capacity.
it could be casued by an equipment failure or just the sheer number of connections stretching available capacity beyond normal parameters, changing routers would do little to change that, the other option is you tried to run the test when you had something using internet bandwidth at your property
the fact your sync speed is virtually the same and your ip profile has remaind the same would also indicate this as opposed to any real problems with hardware
and omfg you actually achieved a download of near ip profile numbers i want your connection rates /
