Rather odd question...

...when a song is playing, if you increase the volume does your nano 'click'? (Considering clicker is set to 'speaker').
Ok, here’s the explanation to my weird question. Last night I accidentally fell asleep on top of my nano whilst listening to it, and this morning for some reason I'm thinking that the click is not meant to sound when u increase the volume (it doesn't when you fast forward....so I guess that’s what’s playing on my mind at the moment). It’s not a big deal, but I just like to know if there is something wrong with my nano now, or not? Thanks in advance!

no, i didn't notice and "click" or static sound if i do anything in the middle of the song...did you turn on the "click"? or the other reason for this to happen is because the backlight is on (i turned off both to optimize the battery life)

  • Have a rather odd question regarding isight...

I currently host an adult webcam chat room and would like to know if I can use my built in isight cam. I host on a popular cam website and use something called "easycam". I have a pc as well can host off of there but would much rather use my brand new imac since the quality of the cam is just fantastic and the microphone is just wonderful!
I am a first time mac owner and am not familiar with the ins and outs of any of these programs and am still trying to figure out the basics of my new computer. I have learned that I cannot use the built in isight for much unless it's through ichat or aim ( neither of which I use )

  • Odd question

This is kind of an odd question.
We have a webcam that we would like to stream video to.  We have the wiring in, and it runs into our network.  The problem is that the network is rather complicated and for some reason the signal from the web camera is getting lost. We need to know if it is an issue with the camera itself or with the network.
And I was thinking to myself, here we also have this verizon netbook with mobile broadband.  If I could plug the webcam / ethernet system into the netbook and could get an internet signal, then I would know the problems we are having are an issue with the network and not the camera.  At which point the solution would be to just get a second independent fios line.
So the question is this... is there any way to treat the netbook kind of like a router.  Plug an ethernet cable in, install some software, forward a couple of ports and that is pretty much it.  It really doesn't matter if it runs slow or not, because this is just about testing some systems.
    Thanks

Using the netbook for the configuration you are requesting is not supported. Only hotspot devices support a similar setup to a router. Examples of these devices would be the following:
    HTC Droid Incredible
    Motorola Droid 2
    Motorola Droid R2D2
    Motorola Droid X
    Palm Pixi
    Palm Pre
    Samsung Fascinate

  • Odd questions re: timecode generator

    Hello
I have a rather weird question concerning a workflow that im sure most on this forum do NOT use.
I have an edit consisting of animated qt .movs, 1280x720 @ 24fps, with NONE compression. Hefty, lossless files. There is also audio, though this is inconsequential to my predicament.
This edit needs to go out to someone @ 720x480, letterboxed with running timecode on the bottom bar. It needs to be compressed to a QT .mov with MotionJPEGA compression.
So, heres my current method, used many times, but highly quirky and VERY slow.
First I take my 1280x720 footage into a 720x480 sequence @ 24fps with mojpegA compression, obviously causing all to need rendering down. On top of that, I put color bars (black), cropped to the correct size, to letterbox the animations at the top and bottom of the frame. Then on the lower letterbox bar, I apply a timecode generator filter.
The problem comes here. With the filter applied, I then stretch out the clip its applied to, in a track over top of my animations to the end of the sequence (like 17 minutes long). Then everything gets rendered down (over the period of like 3-5 hours) and we have a clean, 720x480, letterboxed and timecoded sequence. Fantastic, right? Well, inevitably, a change will be made prior to export and a single couple of seconds will need to be updated under the bars and generator. As soon as anything under those tracks is adjusted, WHAMO, it needs rendering again, for the ENTIRE sequence.
is there a way to go about avoiding this gigantic hurdle? I need the ability to make changes to individual sections of a large, rendered sequence, without needing a full, fresh, and extremely lengthy render-down.
    any help is greatly appreciated.
    thanks

It's the code generator that's doing you in. Is there any way to avoid applying it until you know there are no more changes? Or working in shorter sections?
I can only guess that you're off-lining something for conform later, or prepping for a composer, or whatever.
Aside from maxing out the ram in your machine, I don't see a way to speed up your process; but what if you change your process somehow? For example, open the clips in qt, export as dv in your codec and put THOSE in your timeline?
    This might shorten your render.
You might also consider pushing back a little bit with the others involved in the production with you and all sit down and figure out another better way to do what you need.
    This probably isn't much help...

  • Bit Of An Odd Question.

Hi Everyone, I have a bit of an odd question but my friend gave me his old version of photoshop cs5 with the product key i was wondering if i could register it under my name at all?

If that copy has been used in any upgrade path, then it is no longer valid.
Also, Adobe has paperwork, that must be filled out, to transfer ownership of valid licenses. I would have your friend complete that paperwork for the gifted copy. Adobe Customer Support can get them the necessary paperwork. Once, that transfer could be done via FAX, but not sure what the process might be now.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Odd question: retrieving a serial number

This is an odd question, and I can't find anywhere appropriate to ask it. Is there any way I can look up the Apple products that are registered to me? I had a MacBook stolen last week, and I need the serial number to report to the police on the odd chance that they find it. I can't seem to find the serial number anywhere in my files. Can I get that info from Apple? If so, how?

Try calling Apple for that info. I don't know of any place on their website that you can retrieve that information.

  • Odd question about engraving a shuffle

I received a Shuffle as a gift and noticed he had a message engraved on the clip. This was over two years ago. I'd like to know if he had gotten the message from the engraving gallery or if he made it up himself. The quote is not in the gallery, but since I received the shuffle long ago, it's possible Apple replaced it with something else. I can't find a way to contact Apple about this (by email, I'd rather not call about this); does anyone know how I can email them about this, so I can ask them if the message was ever in the gallery? It's a strange question, but I'm asking because it would make me feel even more special if the guy took the time to write something himself. Of course the thought, gift and engraving together are already signs of affection...poetry would make it even sweeter. Thanks.

If you got it more than 2 years ago it is not a 3rd Generation Shuffle and you are posting in the wrong place.
I doubt they have removed anything from the engraving gallery, which if I recall is a fairly recent option, although I can't be sure when it was put into place since I've never had one engraved. There is no place to email them and it would probably be hard to find anyone who would remember this anyway. So since it is not in the gallery take it on faith it was put there by the giver.
Of course they could have copied it from somewhere else. Have you tried a Google search?

  • A very odd question about accessing cube via HTTP PUMP

    hi there:
Everything was fine a couple of days ago when I used excel to connect to cube. Today, when I use excel -> from Other sources, I can select the AS database but can not see the cube at all... The odd thing is that if I choose to use Existing Connections
which contains the connection to the CUBE before, after put my user id and password, I am able to connect and navigate cube data.
There is a role for the AS database and myself has been granted as Full control ( administrator).  I've also switched to SSMS and access cube over there directly, no issues at all.
Question: why excel is not allowing me to see the list of cubes for an AS database???
    Thanks

    Hello,
How have you setup permissions for the HTPP access. If e.g. IIS and SSAS running on different machines, the permissions settings are a little bit difficult. So may a different user is used and that one may don't have permissions to access the cube.

  • Odd Question - Temperature Tolerance of W530/Bedbug Removal

    Hi all,
I've owned a W530 for more than a year. I can include more detailed specs if necessary, but for now it has a Samsung 840 250GB HDD and 32GB of RAM. Currently there is the HDD that shipped with the W530 in the ultrabay.
I've followed this forum for some time now - I have two much older thinkpads, a T60 and a z60m as well. The advice here has been extraordinarily helpful time and time again. It's truly a wonderful resource.
    So my question:
I live adjacent to an apartment which has recently been confirmed to have bedbugs. Mine has been inspected, and found clean. However, the other day I found a dead bedbug and my girlfriend has some suspicious looking bites. Given this set of circumstances, I am assuming we have some.
I've made arrangements to stay elsewhere, and have undertaken a laborious process of ensuring that all items taken will not have any unwelcome travelers.
However I am at a loss as to how to ensure that the laptop is not carrying anything. Heat greater than 120 degrees F, sustained for a period of time, will kill any bedbugs or eggs (it's how we ensure that the clothes being taken will be clean).
If turned off, can the W530 be exposed to such temperatures (possibly up to 140) without damage? If not, are there any other suggestions?
Thanks again for any help anyone is able to provide.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Check the specifications for maximum storage temperature for the laptop.

  • Odd question on automatic sleep mode when laptop is closed

Is there a way to have the laptop closed and yet still have a program opperating? I'd like to play music through the headphone jack while driving and don't really have a spot to set an open laptop, but iTunes stops playing when I shut the computer. Thanks for any advice.
    ibook g4 1.42 gh   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I can't answer that question because no one truly knows the answer because there are so many variables. Firmware was not really meant to be altered by a third party (I believe). Your iBook was made to work with the firmware created by Apple.
iTunes, in normal cases, should not cause your computer to heat up. There are many different reasons why a computer heats up. I have put some thoughts in this previous post that covers heat and what can cause it.
Basically, philosophy is that before installing a hack that can create problems, you have to weigh what will the effects be if something bad happens. Would you have the resources to fix it? Would you want to just buy a new computer? How valuable is this iBook?

  • Very odd question...

My mother had received a message on her answering machine from our local police department yesterday saying that they needed her to call them, that it wasn't important, but that they needed to speak with her. Today, she called back, and the officer that had called wasn't there, but they told her to stop up and they'll see if they can figure out why he called. In the interim, the officer actually called back again, and my mother's sneaky, amoral boyfriend intercepted the call. Apparently he wanted to know if anyone here had an iPhone that they were using, because there was a stolen one pinging on our property. He said that (and this is secondhand info being passed to me) the phone had been "reactivated". He began acting very uncharacteristic when he answered the phone (he's incredibly lazy and selfish, so he never answers the land line, so that in and of itself is very strange), and afterward. My question is: is there any way to see iphones around you without having their info? I just want to see if there is something on the property, because if he's behind it, chances are there's more to it than just a stolen phone. Unfortunately, I feel like this is all moot anyway, because if the officer told him the circumstances, if he had a phone in his possession, it's probably gone by now.

    Can anything be done?
    Move the fan, maybe?
I presume this is a CRT monitor, not a flat panel. If so, the fan motor's magnetic field is undoubtedly affecting the monitor.

  • Simple Odd question

    Hi All,
When you are creating an asset (as01), in the Origin Tab, there are two indicators.
    1 = Asset purchased new
    2 = Asset purchased used
Is there is any way that we can make it like it will be mandatory for a user to check on one of these two indicator, if the user is creating a new asset?
Current functionality allows a user the following option when creating an asset
1 = Either check the indicator (asset purchased new) -- Structure = XNEU_AM
2 = Either check the indicator (asset purchased old) ---  Structure = XGBR_AM
3 = Not check any of the above indicators and still create asset master record.
Again, my question is, can we somehow make the above mentioned # 3 option to be as a new option which is like
4 = Either check option # 1 or check option # 2, otherwise the user is unable to proceed to create the asset master record ???
I am thinking it has something to do with ABAP developers. Because I check the field status for Origin tab in the configuration, and it does not metion anything about supress/optional/required about the above mentioned indicators.
    Any suggestions???
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi,
    make field ANLA-LIFNR obligatory
-> than you must fill XNEU or XGBR
    A.

  • Maybe someone can answer this odd question...

I've had an iBook G4 since November and this question has been killing me ever since: What are the two little hinged corner pieces on the charger for???
When I plug my iBook into the wall, the module that actually plugs into the wall has two little corner pieces that swing out, almost like hooks. What are these for?!?!?!
This very serious question has plagued me from day one. Thanks!

Wow... Thanks for that enlightenment.... I never even considered the possibilities of the charging module...

  • Wallstreet PDQ running OS 10.3.9 and have an odd question

I have been running 10.2 for a very long time. I was just given a copy of 10.3 and decided to get it running (and I was excited about dual booting and being able to play some of my favorite old games again). Well any of you familiar with the Wallstreet and OS 10.2 know that it has an odd glitch with video. If it goes to sleep...the backlight remains off and you have to reboot to get it to work again. So, it has been a very long time since I have let my book go to sleep (and it is a pain).
Well, with the new OS sets installed, I was excited about this possibility...just close the lid and open again when I am ready to use. Well, I tried it and it froze. Both in OS 9 and in OS X. I can see the screen (the back light works)...but nothing will move. I have even let it sit like this till it went to sleep again. Nothing.
I did have to replace a hinge not long ago. During the process, there was a small ribbon that tore. It appeared to be connected to the microphone...since I don't use it...I left it alone. I have been told this connects to the "sleep board".
So, if I replace this torn ribbon, will it wake normally? OR is there a known issue with Wallstreet and OS X 10.3 and XpostFacto???
    Thanks
    Thoma

    Thoma,
There is a known workaround for the dark backlight in OSX when waking and for some even when booting. Just boot to 9.x or any supported Classic OS from the HD or CD, then restart to OSX. Somehow OSX changes a setting which causes this issue; resetting PRAM or power manager is no help but the boot to Classic corrects the issue. As long as the Wallstreet does not lose power, this fix will stick.
The sleep switch is located on the right side of the 'book in the body along the frame rail next to the 'delete' key. You can stick a paperclip about 4 inches from the bottom of the right, vertical display frame and locate the magnet. I have not looked at the wiring diagrams of the Wallstreet for a long time so I can't say yet what wires are involved. However, if this freeze started when you installed 10.3, odds are it is a software issue, especially since the 'book will go to sleep properly but freezes when wakened.
Unfortunately I only have 9.x on my Wallstreet now, but I have run 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, and I do not recall a sleep issue.
The first step I would take is to reset the power manager since this will often correct sleep issue.
If no help, disconnect all peripherals (USB, FireWire, CardBus slot) and test sleep.
Are you using the XPostFacto control panel to switch startup volumes? I found that using the control panels in 9.x and 10.x when running XPostFacto would cause a freeze.

  • Odd question regarding files on a mac-formatted external drive...

I have recently purchased a Western Digital external HDD (1TB) and have synced it with my mac as a time machine.
I have also, however, moved a bunch of files from my macbook, including family movies, DVD's I've ripped, a lot of my music collection, work files and some games.
This has worked brilliantly thus far.
BUT! I have my MBP bootcamped for some boring programs for work etc. but want to be able to listen to music/play games/access files through the WD HDD... This may be obvious to many people; but it wasn't immediately obvious to me: Because the External drive is formatted for Mac, as well as 'time machine-d', it refuses to be recognised by the PC...
    Thus, my question is:
Is there a way to move files from Mac to PC (bootcamped) through an external drive that is formatted to the Mac.
If not, is there a way to move files from Mac to PC through the bootcamp disc on the Macintosh Desktop. I understand that files smaller than 4 gigs can be moved across NTFS (?) but some of the files for my work stretch as far as 11 gigs...
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! I've been looking around the net for the past week... It's time to be proactive...
If any more info is required, please let me know.
    Ollie.

    Hi Ollie,
with the BootCamp 3.0 Drivers Apple introduced a read access from BootCamp Windows to Mac OSX partitions, but this seems to only work with internal harddisks not with external ones.
MacDrive is the choice get full read and write access on Mac OSX partitions/harddisks while in Windows http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/
For a simple read-only access HFSExplorer can be used http://hem.bredband.net/catacombae/index2.html
The 4GB size limitation is only active on FAT32 file system not on NTFS, but Mac OSX itself can only read from NTFS partitions not write to them without additional helper like NTFS-3G http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com/
So, with you scenario (external HD = MacOS file system) it seems that MacDrive would be the way to go.
    Hope it helps
    Stefan
