Rating HUD?

The rating HUD is showing Rejects along with 3 Stars or more which is the setting I selected. I've been trying to figure out why the rejects would be showing when I'm asking for 3 Stars or better. Is it possible that the HUD shows the Rejects since the images are stacked and the rejects are part of the stack which also includes the image that is 3 Stars or more?

For anyone that may be interested, after working with aperture I may have found the answer to my question regarding the Rating HUD. It seems that if you try to call up images based on ratings and you have stacked them, all images within the stack will be displayed if just one of the stacked images has the rating that you requested. In other words if you request images with 3 stars and in a stack of ten images you Reject 9 of those images but have the three stared image in the stack, all the Rejects will show along with the one 3 Stared image. The key it seems is to UNSTACK all the images and then do a request for a rated image. I don't like that it works this way and if anyone knows any different I would be grateful to be enlightened.

  • Ratings HUD Not Performing Properly

Does anyone know why Rejects would show up when selecting "Show 3 Stars or better" in the rating HUD? I'm also seeing in the same collection images that have not been rated at all. It's giving me all sorts of seemingly wrong answers to whatever rating I'm trying to call up. I'm gussing it's operator error but not sure what I'm dong wrong.

I'm not sure at this point what a smart folder is. I've just been trying to work with the main folder by selecting images and rating them then going to the Rating HUD and seeing how it works. So far it's not. Guess I'll go research the Smart Folder option.

  • Sorting by rating

I have a project with about 4500 images in it, and I have gone through and rated many as the best to use for my project. I use both keywords and stars, but not every image has a keyword.
When I go to the top and tell the program to sort images by ratings (such as 3 stars or better) only some of my rated images appear in the results. I think the results might be based on whether the image has keywords assigned. IF there are keywords on the image, it appears in the results.
    Any ideas why this is?
    Thanks
    Mark

    I'll expand a little on Steve's response:
If you want to see all of your images that are a certain number of stars or better, and find rated images inside of stacks, consider making a Smart Album.
To do this, click on the blue Library icon, then choose menu option File>New Smart>Album. In the Smart Settings HUD, check the Ratings checkbox and set the Ratings criteria you wish to use (e.g., Rating is greater than or equal to three stars). Make sure to check the "Ignore stack groupings" checkbox at the bottom of the HUD if you wish to find rated images inside of stacks. If you do not use this checkbox setting, the Smart Album will only show the stack pick. Now you should see all your rated images for the rating setting in the browser whenever you select the Smart Album. If you wish, you can now sort by Rating by selecting it in the drop down at the top left of the browser.

  • Query HUD Not Working Properly

I am trying to do a find, based on a rating, in the Query HUD. I enter Rating is greater than or equal to 1 star. However, the find results show many images that have no stars and does not show other images that have one or more stars. What am I doing wrong?

    I have resolved the problem.
afer assign query in $ssQueryText variable I used eval function:
    <!--$QueryText = eval(ssQueryText)-->
    now it works :)

  • How to export rating with jpeg?

I would like to export my version as jpegs, with EXIF and IPTC data. No problem. I would also like the ratings to be exported with the picture. Maybe it is, but I cannot find it. Any idea if the rating is exported, and if it is, where?

Allan, if you are exporting the jpegs using the Mail Export Presets make sure that the preferences are set correctly. Open Aperture's preferences, Command + , (comma) and select Edit Mail Export Presets and check Include Metadata.
Use the Query HUD to place the metadata you want baked into the image file. Command f
Click the plus sign at the upper right and choose Rating and set the ratings you want.

  • How to increase the choice of possible filter items in the filter HUD?

    Hi there,
didn't know how to exactly formulate a nice header for my question.
    Here goes:
In the filter HUD, I can add a new rule to search for, and choose "Aperture Metadata" as
the source of possible tags. However, for some reason, the choice of tags I am confronted
with is not exhaustive; for example, the Aperture tag "Badges" is not in the list
of tags that one can search for in the filter HUD.
To solve my immediate problem, I would like to know how I can search for specific values of the
tag "Badges" that is part of the "Aperture" Metadata Field.
On a more general note, I would like to know how one can add or delete choices that the filter HUD offers.
For example, if I add a custom field, what do I have to do to make it searchable in the filter HUD?
    Thanks for any help!

Maybe we do not use the word "Metadata" in the same way.
The only issue I see is this:
. "Badges" are not metadata. They are icons which indicate metadata. The distinction is important in this discussion, because "Badges" is not a family of metadata, other than being the family of metadata to which the Aperture design team has assigned icons which can be shown in some views. It is important to understand that while the badge is a member of the set "Metadata which Aperture shows as an icon", the actual metadata indicated by the badge is a member of an actual metadata set. With apologies for being cute, "Badges" are meta-metadata.
I had the following proposition: not all metadata is searchable.
I believe this is correct, but not as widespread as you indicate.
I then proofed this proposition by showing that Aperture can search for specific
values of the "badges" tag ("locate referenced files"->"show only files not found"), and
went on by claiming that the filter HUD does not offer to do this exact same search.
"Badges" is not a tag, nor is it metadata in the sense you are using the term.
The Filter HUD may do what you are asking. As I posted in direct response in another message in this thread, I think the two-rule "and"-type filter
    . File Status is Referenced
    . File Status is Missing
    will do what you want.
As always, I cannot conclusively prove what Aperture cannot do, I can only say that I did not find this option in the filter HUD, and would be happy if anyone told me how to do it.
If I turn out to be correct, you are welcome.
    This was just one example.
Judging from my lists cited in one of my posts above, one is tempted to think that Aperture's filter HUD is not capable of searching for "Badges", "Flag", "Import Session", "Label", "Last Modified Date", and "Rating".
All of these Items appear in the "Aperture" Section of the "Metadata Fields" in the "Metadata View" dialog that opens when you hit "edit" on the drop-down box in the Metadata Pane of the Inspector, but do not appear in the "Aperture Metadata" list of items in the filter HUD.
It turns out that all but "Badges" and "Last Modified Date" are items that can be searched for in
the filter HUD; The other candidates for "non-searchability" ("Flag","Label", "Last Modified Date", and "Rating") do not appear in the "Aperture Metadata" part of the filter HUD, where you would expect them, but they exist in other parts of the filter HUD.
There is some sense to this. I will add, however, that they do not appear where you expect them (logically, btw), does not mean that they do not appear where others expect them. Our expectations are ruled more by experience than by logic.
Flag status is, in Aperture, what might be described as a privileged metadata field. There is an entire apparatus for flagging, un-flagging, and viewing flagged items; no other metadata has been accorded such privilege (a hot key, the click-able flag hotspot, the flag overlay, the Flag View).
"Label" is also (using my nomenclature) a "privileged" metadata field (just not as privileged as "Flag").
    Likewise "Rating".
While I therefore was able to search for some Metadata fields of the "Aperture" part of the Metadata Field ("Flag","Label", "Import Session", and "Rating", in addition to all items listed in the "Aperture Metadata" option in the filter HUD), I was completely unable to search for others ("Badges" and "Last Modified Date").
See my comments on Badges above.
"Last Modified Date" is a special case. There was a good (iirc) thread about this earlier. I will look for it. Iirc, you can get LMD to show in List view, but you cannot search for it. This is silly -- worth a feature request to Apple. LMD is the only metadata I know of (not, perhaps, saying much) that is not searchable via the Filter HUD.
I therefore think that I did proof (to the extent I am capable of) that not all metadata is searchable - and my question simply is "how do I make these metadata searchable". Or, alternatively, "how do I control the metadata items that the filter HUD allows me to search for".
Yours is a very synthetic approach, which I applaud. The audience for your questions, however, is more properly the Aperture designers, and not fellow users. The only way I can answer your questions is when you specify what it is you are trying to do (for example above: filter your images for referenced and missing). Please ask about whatever specific things you are unable to do.
    Hope that helps.
    Kirby.

  • Rating images

I have about 5000 original versions and 5000 adjustments to review and rate, so I can pare down the number of images I'll be working with more intensively.  For now both sets [the versions are initial adjusted ones of the originals] I have marked all as 4* for purposes of editting = I'll lower rating to 1-2-3 or 9 if I don't want to work with them further beyond the initial adjustment - but move the best to 5* if I'll be working with them further.
The problem is that both the original and  the adjusted versions are 4* but if I review and assess only the adjusted ones and re-rate them [for instance making a few 3*] that affects the adjusted one but not the original which really should be the same rating.
Is there any way to [short of looking at both original and adjusted at the same time] make the rating apply not only to the adjusted one but also its original?

I think this is where limiting a search to "Stack Picks Only" comes into play.
If I understand your workflow -- which is, to me, standard -- you want to filter by rating, but exclude any Images "under" the Stack Pick.  Since you have not been able to do that, you have been working around the problem by assigning the rating of the Stack Pick to every Image in the Stack, thus forcing all Images in a Stack to be filtered by rating the same as the Stack Pick.  The direct way to do this is to check "Stack picks only" at the top of the Filter HUD:
I use this all the time.  I very much _don't want_ all the Images in a Stack to have the same rating, as that makes the rating for all the not-Stack-Pick Images wrong.  The last thing I want is to filter for my 5★ Images and have it bring up not only the hard-won 5★ Image, but the 37 sub-5★ variants abondonned along the way.
    I hope that's helpful.

  • How do I add a widget to give a review or star rating for a book at the end of a book in iBooks Author?

How do I add a widget to give a review or star rating for a book at the end of a book in iBooks Author? You know, how you buy books on iBooks and when you're finished reading it, there's a place where you can give a rating or review right there on the very last page?

Just supply a link that says 'Review This Book' - use http://itunes.apple.com/linkmaker/ to generate one.

Why when using Adobe Bridge,  I apply a star rating,   the rating does not show up in Photoshop Elements.  I use Elements as my organizer and Bridge to view as it is much more user friendly.  Anyone any solutions??

Most likely you have set the wrong file as the external editor. You don't want the obvious one; that's just a link to the welcome screen. Go back and choose this one, which is hidden away inside the folder Support Files:

  • The HUD Inspector in Full Screen View seems to position at the right margin of the image as a default(?)  If I toggle the button in the top right of the HUD it 'unlocks' and I can drag it to where I prefer -- at the left margin; (for over a decade) my doc

The HUD Inspector in Full Screen View seems to position at the right margin of the image as a default(?)  If I toggle the button in the top right of the HUD it 'unlocks' and I can drag it to where I prefer -- at the left margin; (for over a decade) my dock has resided at the right margin so all my slider manipulation over countless editing sessions in Aperture has been ingrained to work at the left margin -- but, the vast majority of the time, the HUD overlaps the image I am editing in this 'unlocked' mode.
Every occasionally I enter Full Screen View and it positions on the left margin *without* superimposition...(!) My great joy is modulated into aggravation, however, should my tracking cursor drift all the way 'out of bounds' -- to call in the hidden pane of adjacent images sequenced in the library... This dramatically shrinks the Full Screen display and re-locks the HUD; if I toggle the switch to re-xpand the image it re-positions at the right margin!!!!  I SOOoooooo wish I knew how to control the default 'locked' margin of the HUD in Full Screen View...

Drag it over to the Left. Then lock it there.

  • ITunes 6.0.1.3 smart playlist and rating problem

I noticed my iPod playlists don't update live anymore, so I checked their settings in iTunes and found that, for some reason, there are no stars listed in the smart playlist.
I deleted them all and tried to start fresh. I click File > New Smart Playlist. In the first combo box I choose "My Rating", in the second combo box I choose "is", and in the third field, I can't do anything--not even click to set a rating. It's just blank.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Okay, apparently the stars are still there, I just can't see them. If I click where the 5th star should be, then it adds songs rated with 5 stars.
I do see the stars in the regular library listing. Why can't I see them in the smart playlist?
This doesn't explain why my iPod doesn't do live updating anymore. Hmm.

FOR NOW, CAN SOMEONE HELP ME GET MY ITUNES SCREEN BACK??? THANKS SO MUCH...THIS I AM SURE IS OPERATOR DEFISENCY!

The large text size makes your post almost impossible to read.
Excessive use of bold or capitals (also) makes posts difficult to read.
You can drag most of the column headings left or right, or right-click on the header to turn columns on or off.
Once you've used File > Display Duplicates or Shift > File > Display Exact Duplicates you can use File > Display All or the Display All button at the bottom of the list to restore the display.
