Rating images with keys (1-5,9)

Hi,
On my MacBook Pro when I try to use the number's key to rate images, it don't work. When I look at the commands in menu and keyboard they are there, except that the keys (1-5) are not assigned. If I use a keyboard with an extended layout and use the keypads, it works.
Is this something that is badly configure on my system or it is normal and I should assign the 1-5 keys as they are suppose to work?
Thanks

The numbers across the top of your keyboard are different from the ones on the keypad as far as Aperture is concerned. I have Aperture configured so that the ones across the top assign ratings and the ones on the keypad assign keywords (which, by default, you have to hold down option-# for)
I'm not entirely clear if you've already checked this but Aperture lets you modify your keyboard shortcuts to be whatever you want them to be. If the 1-5 keys are currently not assigned then you should re-assign them. Aperture > Commands > Customize should do the trick for you.
Hope this helps!

how do i use my own image witrh keying (or green screen)

Put your sky clip on a layer below the clip you want to key. One or the other will be a connected clip. Apply  the Keying filter to foreground clip (the one with the green screen). The green will be seen as transparent and the sky will show through as the BG. Adjust as necessary in the Inspector.
    Good luck.

  • Stack mode and rating images-WORKFLOW SUGGESTIONS PLEASE

I have a couple of issues when working in stack mode.
The first is that although I can rate the image that is bordered in white I don't see an easy way to rate the image with the yellow border?
The second thing that gives me fits is how when I am in stack mode the up and down arrow keys skip over unstacked images while editing.
My workflow now is to take two passes through a set of images. The first in stack mode to get the stack picks and alternates set. The second pass which I do in Primary mode is to rate the images. This has the disadvantage of not rating the stacked images which are not the 'pick'.
Anyone got some suggestions from their own workflows?

    Sailor,
The problem with the opt + return item is that it kicks you out of 'Stack view' into 'Primary' and if you want to return to 'Stack view' then you have to do 'opt + t' and you have lost your place in the stack. (i.e. in a stack of 7 if you were looking at items 1 and 4 when you return to 'Stack view' you are back to looking at 1 and 2 again)
CONFUSION POINTS: I was using the keyboard shorcut card that came in my v1.0 Aperture box, some of those shortcuts are no longer correct. I have also found that not all of the shortcuts on the current PDF Quick Reference are working as expected.
I recalled that you can use 'opt =' or 'opt -" to increse the rating on the yellow bordered item. This might lead you to expect that opt 1-5 would assign ratings to the yellow border image but those shortcuts assign metadata.
I think a part of my problem is that I have been working with much too large stacks. Stacks work better for me if they are smaller and contain images that are visually equivalent but differ in minor details that need magnification to resolve. • Can't get Image Matte Key to work in PP CS6 Mac

    Hi,
After tearing my hair and muttering adult phrases for a couple of hours while following the below instructions from the PP CS6 pdf manual, I still can't get anything but a black screen when trying to apply the Image Matte Key to a simple set-up. The project is in HD 1080p50 format and the basic editing has been largely problem free.
Add the clip (used as a background) to a video track in a Timeline panel.
Add the clip you want to superimpose to any track higher than the track containing the background clip. This is the clip revealed by the track matte. Be sure the superimposed clip overlaps the background clip in a Timeline panel.
In the Effects panel, click the triangle to expand the Video Effects bin and then click the triangle to expand the Keying bin.
Drag the Image Matte Key to the superimposed clip in a Timeline panel.
In a Timeline panel, select the superimposed clip.
In the Effect Controls panel, click the triangle to expand the Image Matte Key settings.
Click the Setup button , browse to the image being used as the matte, and then click Open to select the image.
(Optional) If you’re animating the Image Matte Key over time, make sure that the current-time indicator is in the position you want. Click the Toggle Animation icons for the settings you adjust.
Click the Composite Using menu and choose one of the following:
Matte Alpha Composites the clips using the alpha channel values of the image matte you selected in step 7. Matte Luma Composites the clips using the luminance values of the image matte you selected in step 7.
    What I do is:
    • I have a clip on Video 1. I want to use a hand painted luma matte made in PS CS6 for changing levels ('exposure') in an irregular area of the clip.
    • So,  I duplicate the clip on Video 2 and add an 'RGB Curves' fx for the level adjustment.
    • Then, I add the Image Matte Key to the Video 2 clip and set up the Photoshop b/w image (RGB 8 bit, 1920x1080) from my external eSATA disk containing the Project and media (step 7 above).
    • I select 'Matte Luma' (step 9) – and expect the relevant part (painted white on the matte .psd pic) of the duplicated, level adjusted clip to be superimposed on the Video 1 clip.
    • But I only get BLACK!
I tried using Track Matte Key, with the matte pic on Video 3 – no problem, worked just as expected.
So, what's the voodoo with Image Matte Key?
    Kind regards,
    Joachim

    Ann, Steven, Bill,
Thank you very much for your encouragement and duplication work! Truly appreciated.
This morning, with some fresh energy, I attacked the problem afresh and finally found the culprit(s).
It turned out that the major problem was the Photoshop file I originally prepared as a test matte. I created the original psd through the PP File menu to automatically get the correct dimensions. For some reason, it may have got corrupted. When it didn't work and just resulted in a black image, I used it as a template, changed it and resaved it. Apparently the problem was inherited to the resaved psd:s, even though they worked fine when imported into the project and used as mattes with Track Matte.
    Go figure…
Anyway, today I created a brand new matte file in PS CS6 and, lo and behold, Image Matte Key now worked as expected!
    Almost…
Going back to PS, I edited my simple matte (just two black rectangles on white) and applied a rather heavy blur. I then saved (not Save as…), deleted Image Matte Key from my fx stack in PP, reinstantiated Image Matte Key and set it up with the now resaved psd.
    No blur!
I then went back to PS, resaved my blurred matte file with a new file name and repeated the above exercise – first deleting and then reapplying Image Matte Key, setting it up with the new, blurred matte psd.
Now I got a blurred keying effect.
So, it seems that Image Matte Key won't 'see' a changed file – apparently it 'remembers' the first version of the file and refuses to accept the saved changes.
I think that I've seen a post here somewhere about the same or similar problem with PP CS5 or 5.5.
Anyway, I've learned a lot and again, thanks to you guys who chipped in!
    Kind regards,
    Joachim

Does word or powerpoint associate a tooltip and hyperlink to an image and then allow that image with those associations to be copied to another open word or powerpoint document? If not then your probably wasting your time.

  • Images with Transparency

I am wondering if anyone can tell me the best way to supply a designer with an image for Final Cut that will hold its transparent background when imported? The designer claims that the psd, tiff and jpg with alpha channels that I sent over will only import with a white background. How can we prevent the white background from happening?

    Welcome to the family.
JPG doesn't support alpha so, umm, don't use that one.
Test it before it leaves your shop. This simple operation saves lots of hassles with uptight Photoshop folks who have absolutely no clue what video is all about. Wait till she asks you for more dpi.
There's no secret to exporting a still image with an alpha channel but there must be actual transparency and there must be no underlying layer in your sequence. What filter are you using to generate the key or matte? Is it rendered?
From the information you have provided in your post, there's no way for us to know if your sequence is set up properly or that the element you are trying to export even has an alpha channel.

  • Sound but no image with a hybrid usb dvb stick (PX1256E-1TVH)

    Hi,
I'm usind this usb key on windows 2000 on a notebook from another manufacturer(ie PIVm 1.8Ghz, 512M RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 with 32MB dedicated memory)
    With Savvy TV 2.2.2
I use it with a normal antenna (used for my usual TV) and have a clear sound but a blank screen as image :-( and i'm not looking at a radio (like the FAQ imagine (!)). I'm just using analogic TV (not DVB)
    Directx 9.0c is intalled
PS: The usb key is working, but with a bad image, with another pc (laptop) and a smaller antenna (because i don't have access to antenna in this room)
    Any idea?

  • Image Matte Keys' still images not being memorized

I have a video of the issue.
    Video is 4 min.
    Hello,
I am working on an experimental video project using a lot of image matte keys. Premiere CS5 has trouble memorizing the still images in the image matte keys. The keys fail to associate with the correct images.
The images are in Jpeg format. They share the same spec (res, pixel ratio, ect) as the sequence in Premiere. All media are stored on a 2TB Lacie external hdd using esata cable connection to the pc.
I am using this laptop to edit the project:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246094
    Thanks in advance.

It's a weird bug with JPEG images.  Re-save all of your JPEGs in Photoshop, then they will always link to the correct image in your Pr project.  You can create an action in Ps to do that automatically.  You don't have to change the images at all, you just have to re-save them.

  • Image matte key: batch processing possible?

    Hello again,
I have a question concerning batch processing with Premiere Pro CS5.5.
I would like to apply an image matte key to about 30 videos. The matte doesnt change, neither does the background photo.
I would like to know if there's a way to apply this to all the videos at the same time.
I have only been able to apply it to one video at a time, which means that I would have to do the same process 30 times. Because I have about 12 sets of background photos, I would have to do it about 360 times in the end. So batch processing would really help...
I need the videos to be seperate in the end (360 videos).
I hope someone has a solution for me. Thanks a lot in advance!!!

Check to see if this works:
Create and Import your Matte into PrPro. Place it on the desired Video Track, and then extend its Duration for all Clips on that Timeline. Apply the Track Matte Keying to the first Clip, and make the attributes adjustments to it. Rt-click that Clip, and choose Copy. Then lasso all other Clips in that Track, Rt-click on them and choose Paste Attributes. Does that work?
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - not sure if a Nested Sequence would also do what you want.

  • Moving images with alpha

In Pages '09, images with alpha channels can be difficult to deal with, especially if the alpha is a bigger part of the object than the non-alpha portion.  The issue is that you cannot move an object by clicking on an area that is transparent.  For most images, this is intuitive and helpful, but for some things it is infuriating.  For example, when pasting in a PDF or image object of a MathType equation, it is quite difficult to reposition the image quickly, because great care must be taken to click on a letter in order to drag the object.  To make matters worse, the edge detection of the non-alpha portions of the object is not extremely precise, so it can appear that you are clicking on a legal part of the image, but you will get no response from pages.
My question is this: do any of you know if there is a preference somewhere that controls whether alpha is selectable or not?  I would just like to be able to click anywhere in the image box and move the image.  It doesn't matter if it is a support preference or requires fiddling with a plist somewhere.  Anything would be helpful.  Thanks.

    Dream on,
Well, the World needs more Yoyo Ma types, so I hope you are successful.
If you Command-Click in the Margin and Drag across the page, you will catch the object in a wide net. Then you can manipulate it with the arrow keys, or Shift-Arrow for larger moves.

  • Enable transparent 'white areas' of my pictures that I layer above other pictures with 'keying'

hi, i need to add a couple of pictures that have been set onto a white background. when i import them to my slide show the white background remains and i need it to be transparent so that the actual image looks like it fits nicely into the background picture. but without the background picture coming through the white parts in the center of the images im trying to import. for example, imagine a man with a white circle on his t-shirt, he is standing by a car, and this picture is on your computor white a white background, you dont want to spend hours 'cutting this image out' (painstakingly going around the car wheels etc...) so you import it as a standard rectangular shaped photo, but now its on your screen (on top of a race track picture for example) with all the extra white background around the man and car. i played with chroma key, green/blue screen, and opacity settings but cant seem to make the foreground picture (the man and car) "solid" so that the background picture cant be see through them, or through the mans white circle on his top. see what i mean??
    darren

    Darren,
What you need to do is create an image with Transparency, in just the areas that you want Transparency. In graphic designer and photographer terms, this is a "Knockout," and is accomplished by creating a Mask in an image editing program, like Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, or the free Gimp, that worked for you in the JPEG thread. I have not seen GIMP in many, many years, so cannot tell you how to do it in that program, nor can I tell you what Tools will be available to you.
This is how it's done in Photoshop, and GIMP should be somewhat similar - though there WILL be differences.
With your example image, a man standing by an auto, you would make a Selection around both the man and the auto. There are many Selection Tools in PS, from the Magic Wand, to the Lasso and Magnetic Lasso. You mention the tires of the auto, and for curved shapes, I like to start with the Pen Tool, to create a Path (mathematically defined "lines" and "points," with great, smooth control). This allows me to define smooth arcs, circles, etc., and then I turn that Path into a Selection. That Selection becomes my Mask, to hold out all areas of the image. The more time spent on that Selection (whether you start with a Path, or not), the more realistic it will look.
The Mask is used to "knockout" all background, leaving only Transparency. Now, one must Save the image to a format, that supports Transparency. Because I use Photoshop, I just the native PS format, PSD, which does support Transparency. You will be using another program, so I suggest that you use PNG-24, which also supports Transparency. Note: JPEG does NOT support Transparency, so you WILL end up with all white around the man and the auto. Your Mask will be an Alpha Channel, and you will use that to give you Transparency.
There are tons of Selection and Masking tutorials for Photoshop, and I would suspect that some are tutorials for GIMP, as well.
Good luck, and hope that your knockout works fine.

  • I need to replace a color on my image with a specific color from another part of the image.  How?!

I have spent over 2 hours trying to figure out how to replace a color on one part of my image with a specific color shown on another part of the image.  So far I have been able to go to "Replace Color" on my Adobe Photoshop version, but it seems that I can only change the hue and brightness of the color that it currently is.  I need to use a specific color so this does not help me.  Does anyone know how to complete the task I am referring to?
Also, please keep in mind that I am using Adobe Photoshop 6.0, not a fancy cs version or anything.  So it's pretty old school...
Any help/feedback is greatly appreciated!  Thank you.

    Hi brookehelene,
You might consider making a selection the object and using a color fill layer set to the color blend mode instead of replace color.
I used the same picture as kendallplant did and changed the color on the same flower by sampling the pink color from the flower to the right)
(click on the screenshots below for larger views)
    1. Select>Color Range
(i used color range because the dialog is somewhat similar to the replace color dialog, except one is making a selection instead of replacing a color)
(there are many other ways to make the selection such as the magic wand, so if your more familar with the other selection tools you can use those instead to make your selection)
    2. Use the eyedroppers and fuzziness slider in the color range dialog to make the selection of the object.
(in the screenshot below the white areas are selected and black areas are not)
(your selection probably won't be perfect, but you can paint on the layer mask to refine the selection)
    3. After you press the okay in the color range dialog you'll see the selection (marching ants)
At the bottom of the layers palette press the Create New Fill or Adjustment Layer icon
to reveal a list and choose Solid Color.
Then use the eyedropper to sample a color from your image and press ok.
Change the Blend mode for the color fill layer to Color (top of the layers palette)
    4. As you can see a lot has been selected besides the flower.
To refine the areas of color, paint on the layer mask with the paintbrush tool.
Use white to add the color or black to subtract the color
You can press the D key on the keyboard to get the default colors (black and white) in the toolbox
and press the X key to switch between the two when painting on the layer mask.
Even though the above takes longer you can easily change the color or modify the areas that you want to change the color on.
To change the color you can double click on the color fill icon in the layers panel.
You can also use other layer blend modes besides color such as hue, so you might try some of the others and see what they do.

  • How to I create a screenshot image with a Mac?

    Hi,
I'm relatively new to Macs. I have yet to learn now to make a screenshot image with a Mac. There doesn't seem to be a Print screen button. How do I do this? Can it be done in the Mac OS? Or, is there a need to install some software to do this?
    Thanks much!

    It's all built in!
Go to the Help menu in Finder and enter 'Screenshot' and press enter.
Lots of articles there, including this one:
To take a picture of the whole screen, press Command-Shift-3.
To take a picture of part of the screen, press Command-Shift-4, then drag to select the area you want in the picture.
To take a picture of a window, the menu bar, the Dock, or other area, press Command-Shift-4, then press the Space bar. Move the pointer over the area you want so that it's highlighted, then click. If you decide you want to drag to select the area, press the Space bar again.
If you press Command-Shift-4 and decide you don't want to take the screen shot, press the Escape key.
Screen shots are saved as files on the desktop. If you want to put the screen shot in the Clipboard, rather than create a file, hold down the Control key when you press the other keys. You can then paste the picture into a document.
You can also take pictures of the screen using the Grab application (in the Utilities folder).
Some applications, such as DVD Player, may not let you take pictures of the screen

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Try the action that you're having trouble with again. Post any messages that appear in the Console window – the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
DO NOT INDISCRIMINATELY DUMP THOUSANDS OF LINES FROM THE LOG INTO A MESSAGE. If you do that, I will not respond.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
