Rating multiple images?

Hi,
How can I select all the images in a project and give them all a three star rating? I would them like to go through them individually increasing/decreasing the rating. In the past I have done this but I just cannot seem to do it now. (Aperture latest version 2.1.3).
I try to select all my images in a project (manual page 153), then as described on page 237 try to set 3 stars. Only one of the images is then updated. It seems one of the images is always the 'primary selection'. I just cant figure out how to apply the change to all the selected images.
Thank for any help, I'm sure it must be a very simple solution!
Mike

Thanks for the reply. This is exactly what I was trying to do but it was only changing the metadata for one of the images. I have now solved my problem. In the viewer pane there is a button with a square and a 1 in it. This apparently selects/deselects the 'Primary Only' option. It was selected and after deselecting it the selecting all images and applying a rating to them all works as expected and as you described.
I searched the online manual for 'Primary Only' and found no mention. In fact I just found it is described in the 'Late breaking news' supplement on page 8:
"When selected, the Primary Only button in the tool strip gives you the option of
applying changes to the primary image in a group of selected images, leaving the rest
of the selected images unchanged. Aperture is preset to have the Primary Only feature
turned off, which applies your changes to all the images in a selection. If you discover
that a change was applied to only one image when you expected it to change multiple
selected images, check to see whether the Primary Only button is selected. You can
also turn Primary Only on or off by choosing Edit > Primary Only."

  • Rating multiple images, what gives?

    hey,
    I'm missing something obvious?
I want to rate multiple images at once. I drag the mouse over say 4-5 images, then assign them a higher rating.
Problem is, it only applies the rating to the first file.
This is so simple it has me stumped.
    Any ideas?
    cheers

You have "Primary Only" turned on, which means your actions are applying only to the primary selection, rather than to all selected images.
In the Edit menu, select the Primary Only command to toggle it off. (You can just press S to toggle this on and off.)

  • Problem Rating / Deleting Multiple Images

I have a Problem Rating / Deleting Multiple Images at the same time. For the last 2 weeks I have been unable to select a group of images and rate them all - I have to select images indiviually for the rating to work. This also is the case when trying to delete images.
Anyone know if this is a bug?

Hit 'S' which toggles 'Primary Only' mode - this swaps between applying ratings, deletions to multiple images or just the one with the thicker selection border.

  • Rating 1 image when multiple images selected in Viewer

In the Viewer is there a way to rate only 1 of multiple images selected.
One usually views multiple variations or versions in the Viewer to be able to make a choice of which particular one to keep. However when you try and rate one of those all selected images take on the same rating/label etc.
Is there a way to rate only one image?
    Cheers

It is, thanks very much for prompt response.

  • Key data to multiple images

I feel there must be a way to put the same data to multiple/batch images. e.g. code a batch of images yellow or put the same keywords. Help would be very much appreciated. Thanks, jp.

There are several ways to this:
If you select several images at once in the Browser and use the Metadata Menu from the Aperture Applications menu "Metadata -> Label", "Metadata -> Assign Keywords", "Metadata -> Rating", ... these changes will be applied to all currently selected images at once. You don't actually have to use the menu, the corresponding keyboard shortcuts will work the same.
If you want to change some other metadata tags - title, caption for multiple images, etc, again select the images all at one and use "Metadata -> Batch Change". Select a suitable Metadata preset in the "Add Metadata from" selector and define the values you want to add to all selected image - you can choose if you want to append the new  values to the old values or to replace the old values.
An elegant way to change several images at once is to edit one image and to copy these values to a set of several currently selected images. For this use the "Lift&Stamp" tool:
Select the image you want to copy the settings from and then use "Metadata -> Lift Metadata" (or use the "Lift Metadata Button" (the badge withe the up arrow)
In the Lift Metadata HUD deselect any tags and adjustments you do not want to stamp.
Select the images you want to stamp the metadata tags to and stamp using "Metadata -> Stamp Metadata" (or use the "Stamp Metadata Button" (the badge withe the down arrow)

  • Problem rating multiple photos

I used to be able to select multiple photos and assign a rating. Yesterday it stopped allowing me to do that. If I select multiple photos only the one highlighted vice all selected gets the rating. Any way to get it to go back to allowing multiple image?

    You are welcome.
Funny, for me "Primary only" will be shown in the help menu, when I search for it.
Also, the "primary only" button  - the framed "1" should be always available:

  • Select Multiple Images

For some reason, I can't get LR to make changes to multiple images. For example: I select multiple images and apply the same rating and it only does one image. Same thing for deleting. Also, I select multiple images to use a external noise reduction and it also one uses one image.
I am wondering if I have a setting turned off somewhere to prevent it from applying changes to multiple images.
    Thanks

    That did the trick.

  • Stamping multiple images

I've been using Aperture for about two years, and was one of the early adopters of A3. Until recently, I've had no real issues to speak of, but now when I try to stamp multiple images, or even select a couple images to apply a rating, only the last image in the group actually gets the said stamp or rating. I don't know if I accidentally changed a setting, or if this is the beginning of a greater issue.
Actually, I think it is a bigger issue, as one of my other Aperture libraries recently started not being able to edit in Photoshop, stating the file type was not supported, and the permissions seem to be messed up. I now can't open that library unless I open another one first and then switch.
Does anyone have suggestions for a fix?

To rebuild the Library, hold down the Option>CMD key on launch of Aperture. This should do the trick.
Did you also try to quit and relaunch Aperture?

  • Is there any way to adjust multiple images?

i don't see any saves settings options and selecting multiple items while making adjustments does nothing. can you really not apply edits concurrently?

It sounds like you have Primary Only selected at the bottom on the Control Bar in Layout Rating & Keywords mode. Deselect Primary Only. You can tell that (keyboard shortcut S) Primary Only is selected with it is darker than the other buttons. It should NOT be dark if you are Stamping multiple images.

  • Multiple images selected; rate just one?

Is there a way in Aperture to have multiple images selected but change the rating on just the primary select? I could have sworn I've done this before but now, if I (for example) shift-click to select three images, clicking on one of them and changing the rating affects all three.

  • How do I stop iWeb outputting multiple image files? It makes my site slow!

I'm a professional web designer (but don't let that put you off) who uses Dreamweaver and also handcodes HTML & CSS websites at work on a PC, but having got a new Mac for home use I thought I'd give iWeb a go for a personal site hosted on .Mac, showcasing my music and film efforts, that I didn't want to have to think about coding.
I've built a short little site using the attractive 'Travel' theme, just 5 or 6 pages so far, and have not yet added any multimedia content. However, it seemed to take ages to upload it when I published it to .Mac. So then I went to view it, and it was soooo sloooow to download each page, even on my 4mb cable connection. I know it's a fairly graphically-rich theme, but still!
I noticed that it was redrawing the navigation menu each time... and upon close inspection of the HTML code using Safari's 'View Source' to my horror I found out that that each page has a seperate '_files' folder that contains multiple versions of files that are also used in other pages - including navigation buttons and background images. I also saw that every element has styling applied to it 'inline' in the code, rather than in a single seperate style-sheet.
To confirm this I published it to a folder on my hard drive and checked it all out. What a mess!
As a WYSIWYG web page editor iWeb is great but it's an undisputable fact that the HTML markup and CSS code it produces is absolutely appaling. What's worse though is that it also renders whole swaithes of text as images and that it does create seperate folders for each pages content including images, CSS code and navigation buttons - so even though the same images and code are used throughout the site for the background and buttons and layout, they are written out as seperate files and have to be reloaded with every page!!!
This means that the .Mac server must be getting hammered and webpages are very slow to download and slow to render in Safari - it's almost like dialup when I'm viewing my iWebsite, and like I said, I've got a 4mb cable connection!
Looking at the code iWeb produces, it is good to see that tables are not used for layout, and that's one thing in its favour. But surely the whole point of providing 'themed' templates for users is that the same content is used across the site and therefore doesn't need to be created multiple times - one of the benefits of using CSS stylesheets. Why doesn't iWeb create a single stylesheet and make efficient use of repeated images instead of creating multiple instances of the same file for each page?
Perhaps there is a setting somewhere I've missed. If so, let me know someone!
It is a great WYSIWYG editor, but behind the scenes it's not efficient, it's not clean and simple and it's certainly not attractive - and I'm surprised at that coming from Apple! I know iWeb is a great tool for beginners and I'm a picky professional, but if I was Joe Public First Time Web Designer I'd be very annoyed by this.
Clean it up and sort it out Mr Jobs!
PS: Also, where does iWeb store the website whilst it's in production? I can't find it anywhere?

Your iWeb Site is stored not on your iDisk, but on a file named Domain.sites in your ~/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ Folder.
If , for whatever reason, you wipe your HD and/or lose this file (Get a new computer, Re-Install your OS, Stolen Laptop, Crashed HD, Etc.) without backing-up your Domain.sites file then you will have to re-build your iWeb sites from scratch again.
Of course you can edit your Published HTML files in a different program such as Dreamweaver or even Text Edit. You just can't edit Published HTML files in iWeb. Not at this time at least.
Use iWebBackup to backup your Domain file to a Blank CD or DVD. Backing up your Domain file to another folder on your computer is not fully backing it up. If your computer gets stolen you still lost the file but if you have your Domain file burned onto a CD you have a backup!
    Download iWebBackup Here
You can use iWebExtender to automatically consolidate your files into one folder and delete multiple images.

  • Can you edit multiple images from a PDF in photoshop?

I scan a lot of old publications with images and drawings. The images are in greyscale, but my scanner produces better results set to color. As such, I have to convert the images to greyscale in Photoshop from Acrobat. I have several PS actions that make this process easier, but I wish there was a way to select multiple images from a page or PDF file and run the actions on them (a batch) instead of one at a time. Is there? Or perhaps another method than what I am doing?

I recommend that you scan first, save as TIFF, do any desired correction, and only then make PDFs. Scanning direct to PDFs is great for simple uncomplicated workflows, but a liability when correction is needed.

  • Is there a way to add multiple images at the same time to Keynote 6.0?

I just brought keynote after searching online about adding multiple images to a presentation all in one go - I couldn't do this on the powerpoint version I was using but there were multiple references on google to being able to do this on keynote. I purchased it and now can't get it to work! Any ideas anyone? Thanks

Do you mean like dragging in multiple images and having one image go on each slide? If so, you just drag the images into the Slide List on the left instead of onto the slide. From this prior post.

  • Cannot select multiple images in iPhoto '08?

What am I doing wrong? I want to select multiple images to either print several on a page, or publish to a gallery, but for the life of me I cannot find a view which shows me all photo thumbnails or all thumbnails in an album or all in an event. I can spin the mousewheel to singly go through them, or I can hit edit and go to full screen where I get a thumbnail bar and can select multiples and view them at the same time, but printing or publishing this selection only recognizes the first photo as selected. If I try to select View>Thumbnails, the subsequent menu options are grayed out, and the top one is "hide" even though I see no thumbnail bar. Is there something very obvious I'm missing, or has something gone awry and I should reinstall?
    <Edited by Host>
    Any one can help them?
    Thanks

There's a slider down right of the iPhoto Window - drag it left.
