Rating songs on the

I think rating your songs while out on the road would be a good idea. Don't you think that would be a good idea?

Yep, it's a petition.

What level is what, can not find information on the meaning of the rating 1-5 star's

There are 2 separate meanings for ratings, one is just for how well you like a particular TV programme, film, song etc i.e. you can rate them between 1 and 5 stars - you may then have a smart playlist for songs that only contains 5-star rated songs.
The other meaning for rating, for parental control, is to restrict access to items in the store (but not in your library) by their age rating - so on the Parental tab in Edit > Preferences, as shown on the page that you posted from, you can restrict access to, for example, only films that are rated 'U' (I'm in the UK so I have the UK film rating categories showing), or up to PG (so U and PG will be accessible), 12 (so U, PG and 12 are accessible) etc. I'm not sure that you can restrict access to a particular item that is in your computer's iTunes library

  • Is there a way to delete songs or edit the rating directly on the iPad?

    Hi,
I hear my music mainly using my (new) iPad. Since I want to remove songs that I don't like and rate my best songs, I am looking for a way to do that directly on the iPad (not on iTunes on the PC or Mac and syncronizing after). I did not find a way to do that in the iPod player. Did I miss something? Does anyone now a music player for the iPad that allows me to at least set the rating of a song (so that I can delete the bad rated songs later on the PC or Mac)?

I have ios7 on my ipad since yesterday ....not too shabby but I can't get songs or albums deleted neither by swiping, holding on the icon nor using itunes. What am I doing wrong?

  • Rating a song when the album already has a rating (BUG)

I think this is a bug; I haven't noticed it before iTunes 9/iPhone OS 3.1:
If I have an music ALBUM rated in iTunes (but not a SONG rating), when playing an individual SONG on the iPhone, it shows the ALBUM rating as if it was for the SONG itself. This is confusing, since I'm trying to catch up on my song ratings (but I can't tell if I have rated it, or not).
But (here is the bug), if I apply a rating to the individual SONG (from the iPhone), it will save and sync that rating back to iTunes, UNLESS the SONG rating is the same as the rating I gave to the ALBUM. In this case, the song rating isn't saved/synced. After syncing my iPhone back to iTunes, the SONG rating stays as a "hollow" star.
Has anyone seen this? Can anyone understand what I wrote?
Is there a fix? (besides un-rating my albums; actually, I don't think albums can be un-rated).

Drag the artwork from the artwork window to the desktop.  Then, select the song without artwork and drag the artwork to the blank artwork window.

  • Rated albums vs. rated songs in iTunes Match

I have a smart playlist to gather up all my five-star rated songs; however, there are several missing songs in that playlist when I use the iOS Music app. The reason? The missing songs are not rated five-star, but the album itself is. My solution is to systematically go through the playlist and find the songs that have a grey rating which means the album itself has the rating. I did a few albums this way when the option put into iTunes.
Anyone know of another work around?
I did try putting "Album Rating is five stars" in the rules, but it then added entire albums including non-rated songs from that album.
I'm using all the current versions of iTunes, iOS and am on a new Mac Mini at home. Phone is a 5.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Read this user doc. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4113.
One thing you could try if you still have the original CDs is to re-rip the discs on a different format e.g.mp3 instead of m4a or vice versa at at least 256 kbps - still no guarantee of match. The reason for using a different format is that match remembers previous uploads even those deleted from cloud some time ago.

  • Rating songs and playlists help

    Hi,
I've just got a I Pod Nano. I know how to rate the songs using the stars. But was wondering if I can then make the i pod play the songs that I've rated as good. I like to organise my i pod in terms of album and artists (I make a new playlist for each artist or album). I don't want to make a playlist of all my favourite songs in addition to the songs being in the playlist of each artist/album and therefore have the songs on twice using up space. I just want the i pod to recognise which I've rated highly and play them without putting the songs on twice!
Hope this makes sense, I got my I Pod as a free gift and knew nothing whatsoever about it before I got it!!

I make a new playlist for each artist or album)
    Why? iTunes already does this.
Go to Music -> Artist and it will show all albums by that artist.
Or go to Music -> Albums and it will show all albums.
You can create Smart playlists whcih do what you want.
There are a few by default already in iTunes. Recently added, Top 25, etc.
Go to File -> New Smart playlist and create new ones and see what you come up with.
All songs rated 4 or 5 star and not heard in last month.
All songs in Genre Rock and Added in last two weeks.
If you have a large library, iTunes will Automatically create a new playlist which fits. To put on your own selections prevent this, go to iTunes prefs -> iPod and select Automatically update only selected playlists and select those you want.

  • Rating songs

Is there a way to rate songs from the recently played list. I love listening to. My mixes, but I hate having to stop what I'm doing to rate each song while I'm building a new mix.

When a song is playing, press the center Select button a few times. It will get to the rating bullets.
Use the wheel to set the rating.

  • Playlists not deleting songs on the iphone

playlists not deleting songs on the iphone - anyone know what to do?

You could use 0 instead of 5--I also think this type of workaround is your only option.
My default rating is 2 for all songs until I've decided I don't like them or that they need to be moved up, and I only sync songs that are 2 or above (actually I generally sync the 3+ smartlist to the phone), so in my system, changing the rating to 0 would automatically get it off the phone on the next sync without me having to think about it anymore. Some variation should work with your system.
You can ask Apple for a "flag" functionality in iTunes and iPhone--I think it would be useful, too, though unlikely:

  • Moved Library - rated songs didn't update

I searched and didn't readily see this topic.
I recently had a drive failure and had to rebuild my library - I imported my library and did all my setup and some song ratings on an external firewire drive. Once it got it all together I moved the drive to my server.
After the move I changed my preferences to the new location and all was well until I tried to play a song that I had applied a rating to. Any of those songs were not updated in the music library - confirmed by checking the xml file to find that their locations still point to the old location via attached firewire drive, not via mounted server share.
Now, I should ask why the **** a song with a rating would have a full path applied to it in the library as opposed to unrated songs that dont, but that's probably for another discussion.
Is there any way to change the locations of these songs to reflect the new location? I'm currently forced to double click on each one and then locate it in its new location to get the song to update. I'd prefer not to do this with all the rated songs.
I've tried consolidating the libraries since I ripped more songs to my local drive - that didn't force the update. I tried to disable and then reapply "keep music folder organized" option and that was no good either.
    Any suggestions?

After the move I changed my preferences to the new location
If you thought that would have changed the song locations, you're misunderstanding the meaning of the 'iTunes Music folder location' (like many people do)
Changing that location will only tell iTunes where to store the next ripped CD and purchased music.
The song locations of your library at that moment stay unaltered, as you discovered yourself by examining the .xml file.
The correct way of moving your music is:
    Organize.
    Change location.
    Consolidate.
This will let iTunes do the move and update the song locations in the 'iTunes Library' file.
All necessary steps are described in iTunes: Moving your iTunes Music folder.
If you can revert to the old situation (backups?) you can try again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why can i only purchase 'E' rated songs on my iPhone but can purchase all songs on my iPad?

I have been trying to purchase a song from the iTunes store on my iPhone but it will not highlight the price so i can select it. If i go to an 'E' rated song there is no problem. Although i have not completed a purchase, i can go through the whole process on my iPad with no apparent problem. Is this a setting on my iPhone?
    PD

Connect the phone to your Mac and select it on the left-hand sidebar of your Mac's iTunes (you can enable the sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac) and then use the Music tab on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to select which of your music that you want in your phone's Music app

  • I hit the delete key and the highlighted song on the playlist doesnt delete ??

In I tunes I hit the delete key and the highlighted song does not delete.  I followed the exact steps from the manual ??????

In my experience you can't delete songs from the library when you are starting from a smart playlist. If you delete songs from a manually created playlist, this deletes the song from that playlist view ONLY, and leaves the song in your library. If what you want to do is delete a song from your library altogether, the only way I know of is to do this from the library view.
If you want to delete a song from a smart playlist, you can't do this directly. You need to either change the criteria for your smart playlist so that the offending song isn't selected any more, or else "uncheck" the song, and make sure that your smart playlist collects "checked songs only".
One easy-ish way to exclude songs from your smart playlist might be to change the rating, and make sure that your smart playlist excludes all songs with that rating. However, watch out that you don't end up with a combination of rules that end up excluding all songs so that the playlist is empty, or else including too many songs so that too many items match the criteria.
If I have not understood your problem correctly, please reply with more details. Thanks!

  • Limiting playlists to rated songs per artist

I often want to listen to an album or artist but only the songs I have rated. In iTunes I have a playlist of all rated songs. I type the artist or album name in search for a quick way of limiting the playlist to what I want to hear. My question is, how can I get the same result on the iPod? (without creating playlists for every artist, etc.)

Smart playlist limited to only rated songs. Sort the playlist by artist. Then when you want to play scroll to track you want.
It is cumbersome but there is very limited playlist editing available on the ipod. I have a playlist that only contains songs not played. As I play the tracks drop off the list. Eventually When I have listened to all tracks I will edit playlist to tracks played less than twice. While playing I tend to add ratings. If I get distracted and forget I have another playlist to catch tracks with playcount=1 but not rated.
