Ratings - Bridge -

Hi All,
I am in the process of copying my old pictures to my new computer, and it seems like the ratings info I assigned in Bridge didn't go with them. Where are the files that has this information as well as all of the non-destructive editing in Camera Raw (or is the editing part saved in the raw file?)

There is a couple of invisible files that holds that info, both in the directory where the images are stored as well as your user directories. Adjust your Explorer view options and you should see those files and be able to move them to new locations.

  • Adobe Bridge / Aperture organization feature only comparison

I am curious what others' thoughts are about comparing Adobe Bridge / Version Cue to Aperture's pre-editing organizational features (meaning the ability to organize prior to doing any RAW conversion and editing). What do people see as the most important features that Aperture adds above and beyond Bridge?
Remember, these are pre-editing features only, which is basically organization. Do not include editing and/or finishing options in comments. If anyone is interested why I am asking this, Its for two reasons:
    1) I'm considering a new workflow option of using Bridge and ACR, and only importing into Aperture after all conversions are complete. This basically eliminates Aperture functionality for the initial image evaluation phase, and importing only converted PSDs. Yes, that eliminates a huge part of the value Aperture offers, but perhaps it saves the ability to use it.
    2) I want to know other than aesthetics what I am really losing by not just using Bridge/Version Cue exclusively over Aperture (up to now, I use Bridge, but not Version Cue). I already have my own thoughts on this, but I'd like to tap others' knowledge and advice.
    Brad

Frankly I think you'd be throwing out all of the good parts of aperture.
I really, really like the way it imports from cards. I really like the auto-stacking, the side-by-side compare, the easy ratings (Bridge is just as good for rating) and it's fast for this - I love how it displays a preview on the second monitor.
Really, if Aperture didn't have the library, and were just an organizational/evaluation tool, I think I would be in love with it - it falls apart at the editing and archiving phases.

  • Image importing functionality

I'm building a Flash application that allows retailers to
customize pre-designed price tags. There needs to be a component
that allows the user to locate a jpg on his computer and import
that jpg into a movieclip in the application. The jpg doesn't need
to go anywhere online, just be located on the computer and brought
    into the app.
Any ideas on how to build that feature? Thanks in
    advance.

  • Bridge CS3- Labels & Ratings disappear after processed in Noiseware (was okay in Bridge CS)

Okay, I guess I should count my blessings that this is about the only annoying, recurring problem I've had with Bridge CS3, unlike the crashes that others are dealing with.
Windows XP w/ core 2 6600 2.4GHZ, 3GB ram. A large percentage of my 300GB hard drive is used but that was the case when I used to run Bridge CS. Software- Adobe CS3 Web Suite
Whenever I run a file through Noiseware (Stand alone version) I lose all labels and ratings. This did not happen with Bridge CS version. Anyone experiencing the same? I am always referring back to my ratings and labels so it's a major problem to lose them. Only thing I can do for now is save it with a new file name and then re-rate & label the newly processed file to match the original, but when you are dealing with dozens, if not 100's of files, 2 extra steps is a lot of wasted time!
Thanks in advance for any input.

Thanks curt. I had that problem way back when I first upgraded and it had something to do with renaming files. I fixed that but I still cannot fix this conflict with noiseware software. It blows...to lose all my labels & ratings everytime I have to use the noiseware.
I wish ADOBE would help!?!?!? Where are you guys? Seems like once you purchase the software, we're just on our own!

  • Import Catalog w/ LR 1.1 - ratings not visible in Bridge?

Can't find this in any previous posts - so has anybody else seen this?
The last two imports using the new feature of "catalogs" in LR 1.1 to transfer files from laptop MacBook Pro to desktop G-5 seemed to go ok until I went to Bridge. One was a catalog export to the desktop of laptop, then the catalog was imported via ethernet. The other was a catalog export to a DVD then imported to the desktop. All the tweaks and ratings made it into LR but when I went to find the rated photos in Bridge, the pix were there but no ratings.
What's going on? Makes me wonder why should I bother integrating LR more into my workflow when I hit barriers like this.
    Bill

No, I don't thinks so. I thought the whole purpose of the Catalogs was to preserve edits and xmp.

  • How to include ratings in contact sheets in Bridge CS4??

I'm trying to find out how to include my ratings and labels in a contact sheet, to share that with someone who is not going to use Bridge but ideally just a PDF. Is that at all possible? Thanks!

    Is that at all possible?
To my knowledge not in the AOM settings, the options inhere are still a bit limited. But you can use the sort order for rating and in combination with batch rename you could be a bit creative by adding a mark like 1 star or 2 stars to the filename for the selected files. Or use same rated files per page.

  • Bridge CS4 looses my labels and ratings if edited in Camera RAW

Hi there. This is my first post here, so please forgive me if I make any errors of normal posting procedure. I'm hoping someone might be able to identify this problem please.
    I am using Bridge CS4 v.3.0.0.464 and Photoshop CS4 v.11.0 and Camera RAW 5.0.0.178
On Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit service pack 2, and working mainly with jpg files from a Nikon D300s
I've noticed recently the following behaviour. If I label and/or rate some photos in Bridge, and then open those photos via Camera RAW, and then make adjustments to those photos in Camera RAW and open them directly from there into Photoshop, then the original file in Bridge looses all it's rating and label info, and shows a new modified date and time as of that moment.
This only seems to happen if I actually edit the photo in Camera RAW, I do not ask to save it (and remember these are JPG files so as I understand it any changes in Camera RAW would not be saved unless I ask to resave the file itself) but to open it directly into Photoshop (and I then save the finished work as a copy to a different place from Photoshop) but the act of making an edit in Camera RAW seems to affect the original file settings in some way, and that looses the labelling etc.
However, just a couple of days ago something even odder happened. I opened Bridge, navigated to a recent (and recently labelled) folder to browse some photos (at this point I had not opened either Camera RAW or Photoshop and was not doing editing of any sort). When I got to the folder I wanted and Bridge started to display the thumbnails, I immediately heard my hard drive working very hard, and watched as over the course of a few seconds all my labels, ratings etc, were erased from the files in that folder, you could actually see it happening in real time in the filter pane as the number of red-labelled photos counted down from 30 to 0, and the modified dates for those 30 shifted from two days before to the current time/date. it only happened for the labelled and/or rated photos, the others remained unchanged, with their modified dates still the same as when I created the folder a few days before. This has so far happened to me just once, a couple of days ago, it was as if Bridge was somehow refreshing a cache or something, and that caused it to to clear all the changes I had made.
Anyway, I couldn't really find any reference online or on these forums to that specific behaviour. After reading some slightly similar problems online I tried a few changes to settings. Allowing Bridge to automatically export the cache to folders where possible, and making sure that the main Adobe cache location is writable (not read only) in windows folder settings. However, although I have not yet had a repeat of the weird incident above, that hadn't happened before either so I cant really claim that I've cured it. But moreover the issue of loosing labels/rating when editing with Camera RAW still persists consistantly even after those changes, so that is definitely still a problem
Can anyone shed any light please? if it's a known problem, a flaw, or maybe (hopefully) can be sorted with some settings that I have missed.
    Thanks for any help
    Best regards
    Will

Welcome to the froum.  Your submittal was great.
I don't know if this will fix your problems, but you need to update to the current versions and see where that takes you.  Click on Downloads/updates at top of page.
You have Bridge CS4 v.3.0.0.464 and Photoshop CS4 v.11.0 and Camera RAW 5.0.0.178.  Don't know what current version of Bridge is, but you need PS v. 11.0.1 which fixed a number of mistakes.  Also, the current RAW is 5.6 I believe.  I am still on CS3.

Edits, keywords, and rating can be stored in the XMP file.  This has the same name as the file and needs to move with the file or you will loose info.  If you move or rename the file, and don't use Bridge, this file could be left behind.  You can see this file in Bridge, if you have show hidden files clicked in View.  You can look at it in Windows Explorer if you have "show hidden files".
Check to see if you have an XMP file in the new location.  If not then do you workflow in stages and see if you have an XMP file after edits before you save it to another location.
    Hope this helps.

  • Bridge CS6 crashes when adding tags or ratings

Bridge CS6 crashes when adding tags or ratings.  Someone suggested upgrading video driver.  It resolved the problem for a short time and then started crashing again when adding tags or ratings.  Sometimes it works fine but lately it crashes almost every time I tag or rate one image.  I have upgraded my video driver and reset cache and reset preferences.
Never had a crash with Photoshop CS6 or RAW ...only with Bridge when Tagging or Rating

  • Import Bridge ratings to Aperture?

Is there any reasonably simple way to import Bridge ratings (embedded in DNG files) into Aperture? I'd like to take my existing image library and work on importing it a project at a time so I can add keywords, which I've neglected in the past, but it would be rather nice to not have to go through and re-rate each file.
I've tried some searching (both here and via Google) without coming up with a particularly good way to do this. If I missed something, a pointer would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I solved this problem through a simple method which might work for you. I created a bunch of folders on my hard disk like this:
    Amy's wedding 2star
    Amy's wedding 1star
    Amy's wedding 0star
    Amy's wedding outtakes
    Maine trip 1star
    Maine trip outtakes
Using Bridge, I sorted & filtered by rating and simply dragged the various images into the 'correct' folders. This sounds tedious but it only took a few hours for hundreds of photos.
I then imported the folders all at once into Apeture (use caution on this step) in a way that Aperture created a new project for each folder. Each project had photos which should all have the same rating. Finally, rating them in Aperture and grouping them into a single project was very quick.
I recommend this process because it requires no scripts and is quite transparent.

  • Migrating from Bridge to Lightroom, keeping ratings?

I am more and more convinced to exclusively use Lightroom and wish to import folders that was tagged with Bridge into LR catalogs.
Many photos are rated using Bridge and I wish to keep those ratings when importing them into LR.
    Any capability of doing that?
    Thanks

Go ahead and give it a try.  Unless you tell Lightroom specifically to move the photos, they will simply be imported into the Lightroom catalog/database but remain unchanged otherwise.  Some people seem to think that Lightroom somehow "absorbs" their images, thus making them unavailable anywhere else.  That simply isn't true.  The images should still be in the same place after the Lightroom import.  If you go to Bridge you should find them in the same place with the same ratings as before.

  • Can not creat Ratings in Mini Bridge

I checked mode and they are in filmstrip. I tried all the other modes with the same result.
One other thing is the mini bridge icon does not appear automatically with the pallets. I have to go to the file menu and open it. It does show the file names. And I can edit them ( the names). But I cannot add a ratting. And if a file has a ratting it does not show.
I can add ratings just fine in big bridge.
But if I do a search for ratings ( 5 Stars) it finds them but does not show the ratings.

When you look at the bottom right of Mini Bridge, you have two sets of icons. The one on the left is the Preview mode and the second is the View mode. Filmstrip is one of the view modes. However, with Mini Bridge you have to be in a Preview mode to apply ratings. A demonstration of this can be found in the following video http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-adobe-bridge-cs5/use-mini-bridge-in-cs5-applications/. Skip ahead to 4:30 to see the demonstration of preview modes, including applying a rating.

  • How to import ratings/metadata from previous programs (Bridge, Lightroom)

With the new release of Aperture 3, I am considering make the switch from Lightroom. That being said, I have imported a few folders as tests and cannot figure out how to get Aperture to recognize star ratings that I have applied in Bridge (raw and jpg). Keywords and colors are also no shows. I feel like this shouldn't be a hard thing for a 3rd version of a professional program to do, especially if they are looking to attract new users, but am I missing something here? Thanks in advance.

You need to "save" everything from Lightroom to XMP sidecar files, and then Aperture should just import the files with keywords intact.
No adjustments, star ratings, or labels will transfer over. But otherwise it's not too difficult.. just ensure you've saved the data to the XMP sidecar files (command-S) or are storing the info in DNG files if you're using those.

  • Viewing LR Star Ratings in Bridge

I thought I would see what happens to LR Star Ratings when the images are viewed in Bridge CS3. The answer I have is inconclusive. On one set of photos that were exported from LR as jpegs, the star ratings show up in the exported photos but not in the raw originals. In another set that was not exported they don't show up in the originals either. Should these programs play together in this manner or not?

Sure you can. The controls for the filter have moved to the lower right from the left panel. They have added two other filters, colors (a la Bridge) and Flag/No Flag.

  • Can star ratings assigned in Photoshop Elements 11 be viewed in Bridge? [was:Noreen needs help]

Can star ratings assigned in Photo Shop Elements 11 be seen when viewed in Bridge or visa versa, if assigned in Bridge, will they show up in Elements? If so, how is it done?

Addressing your second question, you are confusing two different things.
tiff is an image file format, as is jpeg, as is psd, as is png, as are dozens (if not hundreds, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_file_formats) of other formats.
A colour profile represents the colour characteristics of devices so that, for example, displays know how to display the colours, printers know how to print them.
Image files MAY, but do not have to, contain colour profiles.

  • Bridge labels and ratings problems involving Premiere Pro

I recently went on vacations and took a lot of video with my DSLR.  I took a lot of time to organize the footage by batch renaming as well as adding labels and ratings within Bridge.  I had assumed that adding this kind of metadata would stay with the clips upon importing to Premiere Pro but found today when I imported all of my footage the ratings and labels did not appear in Premiere but still appeared in Bridge.  I couldn't find any helpful information on this topic online so any help that could be provided would be much appreciated.
P.S. All of the footage was recorded to AVCHD .mts filed on a Sony A65 DSLR and im using a 2011 I7 iMac not sure if this information is usful but I thought it couldn't hurt to provide it
