Ratings syncing on manual sync setting

hello my fellow itouch and itunes users!
I have my itunes set to manual sync so it doesn't sync my whole music library on my 16gb itouch. But as i am listening to music on my laptop and I change/update song ratings.(here is the problem) When i sync my itouch with my laptop how do i get my itunes to update the song ratings so that my itouch and laptop have the same corresponding ratings. As it is right now the itouch does not sync current ratings or anything else what so ever. I think that would be a good feature to add without letting itunes sync all music, but let it update ratings and such, so that all music can be in sync while not copying any more music to my itouch.
Can someone shed any light on how to do this?
Thanks so much
MrWong

I believe that if you go from manually managing your music to syncing, it will clear the iPod and then add music to it. If you can identify all the music that is currently on your iPod, you could put it in a single playlist and then select "Sync selected playlists" from the Music tab and sync only that playlist. However, then you would have the ratings that are currently on your computer and would lose those on the iPod.

Plug in iPod. In preferences there is a check box to turn on manually managing contents. Forget the exact wording.

  • Auto-Sync Music, Manual-Sync Videos?

Is there any way to put Music playlists on auto-sync, but still have Videos on manual?
I really would like to be able to copy movies and TV shows to the iPod, and then back them up onto DVDs, so they don't take up precious space on my hard drive.
But sync-ing music playlists is convenient.
Podcasts can be managed separately; why not videoes? Or am I missing something?

Once you set your music to Auto-sync, you should have the option to either Auto-sync, or to manually sync the videos. The one confusing part of this is that if music is set to manual, videos are forced to be synced manually...
    Let me know,

  • Standby sync check - Manual syncing

    Hello,
I would like to re-confirm what DB views do we need to really check and make sure whether my primary & standby are in sync in a manual standby mode.
Should it be v$log and v$log_history or v$archived_log.
My doubt arises with one of my client current setup.Logs are manually shipped, and later manually recovered i.e not manged recovered process.
Today i did a manual healthcheck and i see there is no rows populated in v$archived_log with APPLIED='YES' on standby. But v$log_history showed me the current log sequence which is the same in primary too. From standby alert log i confirmed the sequence number is same as the value shown in v$log_history.
Oracle manual says,v$archived_log & v$log_history gets the related info from controlfile.
So why didnt v$archived_log didnt populate the same data as v$log_history.Sometimes i see a value far less in v$archvied_log when compared to v$log_history.
Below is my script which does manual recovery .
The archives are just scp'ed and done a manual recover using sql's.
    This is the script part.
    recover_auto ()
    echo "\n`date`... Recovering database $ORACLE_SID." >>$LOGFILE
    sqlplus -s "/ as sysdba" <<EOF >$TMPFILE
    recover standby database ;
    auto
    exit
    EOF
    Here is my output.
    @primary:
    SQL> select THREAD#,max(SEQUENCE#) ,ARCHIVED,APPLIED from V$ARCHIVED_LOG group by THREAD#,ARCHIVED,APPLIED
    2 /
    THREAD# MAX(SEQUENCE#) ARC APP
    1 75883 YES NO
    @standby
    SQL> select count(*) from V$ARCHIVED_LOG
    2 /
    COUNT(*)
    0
    SQL> select max(SEQUENCE#) from v$log_history
    2 /
    MAX(SEQUENCE#)
    75883
Does the view v$archived_log & v$log_hisotry behave differently after an restart of the DR(manaul shipping & applying methods) ?
    Regards
    Sreeraj

    Hello,
As i have already mentioned the archives are manually shipped using rsync command. There is no a remote location defined on primary. We simply pull the archives from primary and put it into a location on remote. Later recovery script is run which will recover using these archives.
So your query does not provide enough data.
Even though i do a manual recovery on standby, those details on sequence should be there in the standby controlfile. Am i right. But if you check my previous note, count from v$archved_log shows zero.
    This is were am stuck.
    Thanks,

  • Auto Sync or Manula Sync!

    Firstly hi..
I was using ipod mini 4 gb for 1 year and then i decided to buy nano and bought it now i have a question.I wanna use top rated , most played etc. etc. playlists but i dont want to auto sync.. whats your advice for me ? What should i do ? should i choose auto sync or manual sync and what are u usin ? auto or manual ? I asked this questions bec. when i choose auto sync i cant throw the songs in the ipod and if i choose manual sync my raitings for songs in the ipod for example 5 star cant seen .. in the itunes ?

"How can i match ? icant understand"
When you create a smart playlist you'll see a box "Match the following Rule" just make sure it is ticked.
See this tutorial on smart playlists for more information: http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/itunes/it2-2.html

  • Nano star RATINGS not reflected in iTunes 7.4.1 (2) - manual sync

    Aloha,
I rated several tunes while walking. I don't have enough room on my 4gb iPod to carry everything at once. I would like to temporarily remove those tunes that I have already rated and put some others on. I use the star ratings as my own personal way to sort by speed, favs, and junk.
When I get back to my Mac, I know that the ones with 1 star are to be deleted - pau (pronounced pow! Pau is Hawaiian for done, did it, finished, no more).
2 stars is slow, maybe no words
3 is walking pace, can talk over, easy listening
4 is dance, hike, pep up
5 are personal fav's of a variety of speeds
I want to have that ranking info sync up with the same songs that came from my library in the first place. Then I want to dump those and grab more music, or audiobook parts, or podcasts, whatevahs. This is the way I used to do it on my old FireWire iPod many versions of iTunes ago.
I plan to continue to rate music as I have time and when I get back to my Mac that rating system allows me to put the music into playlists that I have essentially created on the fly.
I can change my rating system at any time and wa-la I've got a new playlist.
I'm open to other ways of accomplishing same onthego sorting principle. I've tried creating a playlist using iTunes, but the playlist is on my Nano and I cannot copy it or the files to a playlist on my Mac. . . . maybe I can export a playlist
Oh, that was ugly - don't follow me! I imported the playlist into my library and I now appear to duplicates of every playlist related to music (and the two called 4star are both empty). Great (eSarcasm).

First thing to get out of the way is ratings do not transfer from iPod to iTunes in manual syncing. Try using sync selected playlists mode. Then set up iPod to sync the playlists you want on iPod.

This is so I can delete music from my ipod knowing its rated on my i-tunes so I can then see later if I want to re-add it based on its rating

  • Can i set iPHOTO to manually sync?

Is there any way to set my sync options so that the phone doesn't automatically open iPhoto and sync it? I rarely have photos that need syncing -- so I'd rather do it manually.
    thanks.

Wow, this did not work for me. Every time I plug my phone in iPhoto will start. At this point I have turned off all syncing options I can find in iTunes. So, the phone is not syncing information. Still, relentlessly, iPhoto jumps to life when the phone is pluged in.
I have tried turning the iPhoto sync on. Syncing. Then turning the sync back off. And I still get iPhoto at plugin.
At this point I just hate iPhoto. Can I just delete the app? Maybe the Safari pop up blocker can be of help here..

  • HT1202 unable to set iPod to manually sync

When I connect my iPod nano to my pc, I get prompted to restore it.  However, I do not wish to restore the iPod because I use another computer with it, also.
I located an Apple help file that guided me to the Summary tab within iTunes.  When I select the Summary tab for my iPod nano to set it to manually sync music, nothing happens.  I am operating iTunes 11.0.2.25.
    Please advise.

  • Does Sync trump Manual setting?

I have my iPod set to manual update due to a space issue (my music library has grown larger than its 40GB). But I miss the inclusion of the iPod's play count stats and so forth. If I go to the File menu and select Sync, will it just update that info, or will it defeat my Manual setting and try to load my entire library onto the iPod?

A bit more searching on Doug's Applescript for iTunes there is one called "Synch iPod-iTunes Data" that...
"Script synchronizes select data between your iPod and iTunes. The data that can be synchronized are "Date Last Played", "Play Count", "Rating" and "Comments". The data can be transferred from iPod to iTunes or the reverse, or can be synchronized between the two."
which might be able to allow you to remain with manual syncing AND sync playcounts back to iTunes.
    http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=synchipoditunesdata
Ooh ooh, just found another one called "Append iPod Play Count to iTunes Tracks" that...
"This script will add the Play Counts of either just the selected tracks or all tracks on an iPod to the corresponding tracks in iTunes. (For users who manually manage their iPod tracks.)"

  • IPhone 4s set to manually sync, but every time I try to put a single song on my phone it downloads my entire library. How do I sync individual songs without downloading entire iTunes library?

I recently purged my iPhone 4S of most of its music because I didn't have enough gigabytes of free space to download the latest iOS (my phone was actually completely full). That ticked me off but I didn't have time for a backup. I transferred all purchases to my library and I deleted the music from my phone.
Since then, I've been annoyed that I don't have all my music but I've been enjoying the free space that I have, so I prefer to restore songs from my library individually now, depending what I'm in the mood to hear, and I don't miss having a full phone.
However, whenever I try to manually sync music that was ripped from a CD, music I didn't download from iTunes, but is playable in my iTunes library, iTunes thinks it has to download the entire library, which I don't even have the space for, anyway. However, my iPhone seems fine wirelessly (I have Home Sharing turned on) syncing individual songs which were purchased in the iTunes store.
So whenever I try to sync a single song, or an album perhaps, which was not purchased on iTunes, I get the message "updating files on iphone" and it says it's copying all the thousands of songs in my entire library. But my settings are for manual sync only. I wind up cancelling the sync every time, because I would have to wait for it to finish copying thousands of songs before it got to the one I selected. Why on earth is it doing this?
How do I regain the ability to sync a single song at a time?
    This has been exasperating me.

While your iPhone is synching in iTunes, do the following:
    1.  Click on your iPhone's icon on the left.
    2.  Find and click on the "Tones" tab on the upper right of the iTunes display.
    3.  Choose the synch option you would like.

  • New iPod Touch 32gb stalls after starting sync, error 54, manual synce gets dumped

I just got this thing at Walmart last Sunday and its been driving me nuts all week! It's the brand new iPod Touch 32gb 4gen. When trying to sync it will start to load music then stall. Sometimes it gives error code 54, sometimes says it cant convert song, cant find song, or just stalls. If I wait anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour it will finally un-freeze and dump everything or say the connection has timed out. I've ran repair on iTunes from control panel, no help. Un-installed iTunes and re-installed it then tried synce, no help. I un-selected everything in the iPod summary so that it wont try to synce when I connect it and selected manual synce. Then I could sync a few songs at a time, but it still stalls after only loading a few songs on iPod. Tried dumping everything out of the ipod and start over, several times, no help. I've been 6 days, all day, every day, and half the nights getting a few songs at a time on this dam thing. I found when it stalls if I turn the iPod off to force it out of iTunes I can then restart iTunes, reconnect the iPod, manually select 15 to 20 songs and drag them to the iPod. A few times I got over a hundred to sync but usually 20 to 30 songs then it stalls. Then I have to do the whole thing over again. I had a little over 1200 songs out of the 1877 songs, 11.28gb, in my music library when the last time it stalled, it dumped everything. 4 or 5 days of manually syncing a few songs at a time, GONE. Just poof, all that work for nothing. The only thing left on it is 92 of the hundred something songs I've bought from iTunes. I'm ready to take a hammer to the dam thing and send it back to Walmart where I got it.
I'm using a Dell Studio 17 inch laptop that's about 4 yrs old running Windows 7 that I installed 2 years ago. I had a iPod nano 2gb that worked fine with this computer & iTunes untill it died last spring.
Why do you have it set up so that one little hickup and the dam thing dumps everything thats on it? I cant even stop it from starting to sync when I connect it because I need to see the settings in the summary for the iPod to change the settings, but I cant see that until I connect it, but as soon as I connect it, it try's to start the sync and stalls feezing everything.
Can anybody help me before this thing drives me completely over the edge!?
    The ColoradoHermit

I have a older Dell Optiplex desktop computer running Windows XP. I copied the iTunes  folder on my laptop to an external drive and plugged that into my desktop computer. Then connected the iPod Touch to the desktop. For some reason or other the computer thought the iPod was a camera and wanted to know which photo program to open with or for it. I never did get iTunes on my desktop computer to "see" the iPod and had to give up that idea.
When going into the My Computer or Windows Explorer - which is the one I like to use for working with my files-  when I connect the iPod to my computer in Windows Explorer it will show the iPod. Open that and it shows Internal Storage, open that and a folder with DCIM shows below it, open that and a folder with 860OKMZO on it shows below that, open that and it has the 40 or 50 photos I saved from Facebook. That's it, there isn't anything else shown in its storage. The iTunes on my old Desktop doesn't see the iPod Touch either.
Even if the iTunes on my old desktop would work with this iPod Touch it wouldn't do me any good. I read in a post that once it is connected to a iTunes Library, if its connected to any other iTunes Library on a different computer it will dump everything that's on it. Which is totally stupid but I think they - iTunes - have it that way so that you cant share your music with somebody elses computer. But that also makes it so I cant manually sync one thing at a time with my own iTunes Library. I tried syncing my music first and after I got some of it on the iPod, in its summary I deselected the music sync and selected the movies or video's so I could manually synce a few to it to see if it would work. Bad move. As soon as I did that it dumped everything that was on it, then said that it could not sync the movies because the files could not be written. HUH? Why a video from YouTube could not be written beats me. But why did it dump all the music?
The last thing I did with it was put all the options in the summary in iTunes back to default, removed everything on the iPod that was left after its last dump, then disconnected it, closed iTunes, and rebooted my laptop and started over from scratch. Started iTunes, connected the iPod, after iTunes found it I opened the iPod summary, made sure everything except sync photo's was selected, then started the sync function. It immediately listed all the songs and the songs info in light gray under music on the iPod. It only got 2 songs copied, then stalled. I just left it alone to see what it would do. I opened the Windows Task Manager to see what it was doing. Even though the iTunes program appered to be stalled it was using 50% of the CPU. After about 15 minutes it showed a popup window saying the song could not be writen then another saying its connection to the iPod had timed out, then iTunes stalled and "not responding" showed in task manager and at the top of the iTunes window. After 30 minutes I had to force it to close with the Task Manager. By then it was after midnight and had been another 12 hours wasted messing with this thing.

  • Multiple ipods on 1 computer - sync. v. manual

Hello! I set up an itunes account for my wife's nano on our computer where I already have an itunes account. I have created a separate itunes account for her, and I have copied my libarary onto her account. Once I plug in her nano into itunes, I get a bubble reminding me that her nano is already synced to another computer. I am asked if I want to delete the music on her ipod to sync to the new libary. After I click "no" her ipod appears on itunes, but the music cannot be accessed, and I cannot add songs from her new libary onto the ipod. Do I need to change the ipod settings from "sync" to "manual" so I can remove and add songs to her ipod? And will that delete any songs on her ipod if I do that?

    Just plug them in.

  • How do I force a manual sync for my iPod touch w/iTunes v.11.0.1.2?

After the upgrade to iTunes 11.0.1.2 I am unable to find a way to force a manual sync for my iPod Touch.  Also, some of the podcasts seem not to go into the proper folders, they wind up in an "unkown album" folder after downloading.  Is there a way to fix this or even manually move them into the proper folders(albums)?

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar and Control+B to show the Menu bar
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.

  • I have an ipod classic 120 gb. I had music on my ipod that I had gotten from other people's itunes libraries by changing my settings to manually sync my ipod. However, twice I have had my ipod plugged into my mac and it completely erased everything

I have an ipod classic 120 gb. I had it set up so that I manually sync and manage my music. Twice I have had my ipod plugged into my mac and it had erased everything on my ipod. All the music on my itunes was still in my library, but all the other music was lost. I understand that I need to go back to the other libraries I got that music from, but how do I make sure that my ipod doesn't keep syncing and erasing itself? Also, now every five minutes a message will pop up on my itunes saying that it cannot sync because of an unknown error and then it has the number 13014. I have no idea what that is about. Does anyone else go through this? How do I fix it?

Well the iPod is supposed to be synced from YOUR iTunes music library, if you used other means to put music on there then the iPod is going to sync to only what's on your itunes music library when you connect it.
You need to put the files into itunes.
Far as your other issues, sounds like the drive is dying.
