Raw 5.3 problems with CS4

When will Adobe debug Camera Raw 5.3?
In its present form it will not even run on my two MacIntosh computers, an Intel and a G5!
My systems are 10.4 and 10.5, and I have 3.5 gigs of ram, I have several external Hard drives
Plus the fact there are no useful instructions to guide me out of this mess!
After installing Raw 5.3 in Photoshop CS4, on an Intel Mac, my raw processing is DISABLED!!!
JPEG is recognized, but any raw format images are not recognized!
If I then de-install 5.3, and go back to 5.2, everything is fine!
I am very disappointed with this condition!

The more virulent the rant, the greater the likelihood PEBKAC. It
<i>
<b>never</b>
</i> fails.
<br />
<br /> There are three possibilities of user error here:
<br />
<br />* the ACR-plug-in download was not decompressed properly;
<br />
<br />* the wrong plug-in was downloaded (Windows version instead of Mac); and, most likely,
<br />
<br />* the plug-in is in the wrong location. Here's the correct location:
<br />

<img alt="Picture hosted by Pixentral" src="http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1uqXUuws2WCRPEy2o7T4yfEYCqO08_thumb.jpg" border="0" />
<br />c This shows the correct path to ACR 5.2, which is the one you have to replace with ACR 5.3 at this precise location.
<br />
<br /> One possibility not connected with user error is
<br />
<br />* a corrupted download. (Try downloading it again.)

    CS 4 Dynamic Link to Encore doesn't work most of the time.  Encore stops operating after opening and periodically Premier Pro stops working.  I'm told that there has been a problem with CS4 when using Dynamic Link to go to Encore and build CD's.  Is there a way around this?  Is there a patch to correct it?

    To build CD's???
    What problem does Encore have with DL?
    If DL is not working properly for you the way around this is to export from Premiere to either mpeg2-dvd for DVD or BluRay H.264 for BD-disks and import the files in Encore.

  • Still weird problems with CS4/My new computer

    Here is situation. Machine works very well when I´m editing HD video but soon as I start edit multi-cam: PROBLEMS! And as I watch from monitor that materia that I been edited so far, it works well, but as soon as I try to change cameras, everything slows-down. Like there is too little memory or something. Could the problem be somewhere in that CS4 program? Because I watch same time those CPU/Memory values and they don´t go very hight. CPU about max. 40% and Memory max 4Gb. And basicly: Is thia computer powerfull enough for Creative Suite CS4
    My graphics card is, ATI Radeon HD 4870. I have update my bios and  Radeon should be 64bit with latest drivers.
    I have ran PassMark Performance test again and again. 2D results are mysterious low and also  disk results ( sequenta write/random seek).
    Everydays I got bluescreens (Bad_Pool-Header, Bad-Pool_Caller etc.)
    Also I´ve notised that in that computer shop they connect those Hard-drives in in SAT 3 and 4. Should they be connected in 1 & 2?
    Also my "first" hard-drive (C:) shoud be very fast, 10 000rpm but in that performance test, and also in Windows hard-drive test results shows, that information does not move as fast as it should be?
    Hard-drive is 300 GB ATA II VelociRaptor drive model FS WD3000HLFS
    ( http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2503 ). Is that hard-drive appropriate for Windows 7 or vise versa?
    Or could that problem be in my memory chips?
    In here I ad my DxDiag-file. I wonder why there said that in displey devices: Current Mode: 1920 x 1200 (32 bit) (59Hz) ?? Should it be 645Bit be cause displaycard is 64bit ???

    Thanks for tips!
    We may have to clear up the hole computer. I have quite a lot videomaterial in hard-drive D, waiting for edit. In C there are basic brograms, Corel X4 and some players. Nothing bigger. Still, before that, now that "normal" HD editing is working quite well,  I wonder:
    Are CPU about  40% and Memory 4Gb values normal when I´m editing with CS4?
    Is my computer actual powerfull enough for Creative Suite CS4?
    Why in Earth are those 2D values so lame?
    Hard-drives are connected in SAT 3 and 4. Should they be connected in 1 & 2?
    First hard-drive (C:) shoud be very fast, 10 000rpm but in that performance test, and also in Windows hard-drive test results shows, why?
    Could problem be in my memory chips?
    And:
    In DxDiag-file, why there said that in display devices: Current Mode: 1920 x 1200 (32 bit) (59Hz) ?? Should it be 64Bit be cause displaycard is 64Bit??
    So many questions and so many possibilities...
    Thank you very much and sorry all my weird question but I´m about to explode becauise of this stupid machine!!! Arg!
    Sometimes I think that it would be better live in stoneage...

  • Several problems with CS4 Bridge

    I select all images, and go to image processor to make web-size images.  Nothing happens.
    I process one image in Camera Raw, hit Open, nothing happens.
    Bridge has been crashing almost daily, prior to these problems.
    Now, any image I process in raw, opens in Raw dialogue, and I can't open. So, once I process, I can't open it!

    Don't have CS4 installed anymore but it looks to me you have the latest updated version. (can you also check the Output Module and see if you have the option for Header and Footer, if not you could also use the Adobe Output Module to update and see if that helps.)
    In general restarting Bridge holding down option key and refresh prefs solves many problems. You can also quit Bridge, go to the user library in your user account and from user/library/ caches/Adobe/BridgeCS4 delete both cache file and plug in. (it refreshes itself after restarting Bridge with a new empty one and you will have to recache which can take some time)
    Then from same user library go to application support/Adobe/BridgeCS4/Workspaces and in here delete the file called: !!LastMenu.workspace
    Finally from same user library preferences folder find and delete the Bridge plist file (com.adobe.bridge3.plist) It is version 3 for Bridge that came with CS4 so this the one you must delete.
    Then use Apple Disk utility (or Cocktail or other maintenance software) and check and repair your disk permissions. After this restart Bridge Holding down option key again and again choose reset preferences.
    For image processor problems you also might want to reset the preferences for PS but first try the above method for a start.

  • Problem with CS4 activation using student users

    Hi,
    I am working at a school and over the last few weeks we have rebuilt our network from a 2003/xp to 2008R2/Win7 network so have had to remake a lot of software packages. We have created and deployed CS4 with success across the network but seem to have an activation problem with a specific user type.
    This user  type is with student accounts which use a seperate group policy to the staff accounts. When students log in and the PC has not had any CS4 programs started before, it comes up with the activation window prompting to start a trial (does not work) or activate with a serial number (also does not work), which should not happen as the serial is built into the deployment. When staff log in and run the software it works fine and activates with no problem. So this is not an activation issue, more of a technical issue.
    This is causing a problem as for us to activate all of the CS4 software we have to log onto each pc as a staff member, open Photoshop (or another CS4 program), close it then log in as the student for it to work. (This is only needed once per PC, but is time consuming with over 400 computers.)
    The only main difference between the staff and student accounts are that students use mandatory profiles (with roaming appdata) and staff use fully roaming profiles. There are other policies in place for students but none that I can see would stop the activation process from working.
    So my question is, does anyone know what could be stopping this activation from working?
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Still having the problem, anyone have any ideas what could be causing it? Im at a loss here, ive compared both policies for staff and students but can not work out whats causing the issue.

  • Video problem with CS4.2

    I am having an unusual problem with my cs4 programs, noticed most within PPro and AE.  Quite frequently my entire monitor image will momentarily shift a few pixels down and to the right.  It will return to its correct alignment within less than a second.  Also, when I click on a menu item, the drop down menu will appear correctly for about a second then disappear until I run my cursor over the area where the menu should be.  At which point the menu will reappear one line at a time beneath the cursor.  When the item appears, I can activate it normally with one click of the mouse.  This also happens when I access my title screen, Media Encoder screen (from within PPro), etc.  The programs have also started freezing on me more frequently, requiring me to close out using Task Manager; sometimes even requiring a reboot.  Otherwise, the programs seem to function fine.
    I operate in WinXP Pro and work in standard def with the following hardware (all drivers are up to date):
         Asus p5q3 deluxe motherboard with 4gigs of memory
         ATI Radeon HD 2900xt with 512mb of memory
         Matrox RT.x2
    I know just enough about computers to be dangerous, but I'm wondering if this sounds like a video card problem.  Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you.

    Bob,
    You are correct. Once upon a time I had the Canopus DVStorm with Premiere 6.x and it worked great (and a DVRaptor before that). Then came Premiere Pro and the problems that the DVStorm had were insurmountable so I dumped it and got the RTX-100 which was reputed to be about as good as the DVStorm was in the past. Was I disappointed! It just did not work reliably, hangs, BSOD's, unresponsivess and then when PR CS2 came out you effectively had to get the RTX.2, which was paramount to throwing the RTX.100 down the drain. It seemed to me that with every new version of CSx you needed to get a new Matrox card at extravagant prices for what it offered and still had to wait very long for decent drivers to come out. It just wasn't worth the effort anymore. And when you look here at problems that people experience, the common denominator is usually the Matrox card. So, yes, I am glad I got rid of it and found a very useful purpose for the card: a doorstopper, which must have been the intention of the engineers to start out.
    About Win7: No, I did not have any doubts at all, but in my case I was lucky enough to have a high level network consultant with all kinds of certificates and an impressive experience to advise me and he juist plain told me: "You DON'T want Vista!!! GET WIN7!!! I have been using it for several RC's and it is a revelation." Now after installing and using it for some time, I can only agree.

  • RAW file rendering problems with Pentax-k5

    Since a few weeks I have serious problems with the raw rendering in aperture 3.4. I have done everything to solve this problem, but until now without succes. I have upgrade with mountain lion OS X 10.8.2 and I use the latest version of aperture 3.4.3 RAW 402 build 672.6.
    Does anyone have this problem to? Or do you know how to solve this problem?
    Regards
    Jan K.

    Jan,
    that may be the same problem as discussed in this thread. Do you use in-camera settings to enhance your pictures? these will not be captured in the raw processing that Aperture does, but the pentax software understands the in-camera settings:

  • Raw file rendering problems with Canon EOS 5D in Aperture 3

    Since upgrading to Aperture 3, I have had serious problems with the rendering of Canon EOS 5D (not Mark II/III) RAW files. With Aperture 2, both the preview and full-sized images looked basically the same as the original images as displayed on the camera's display, without any adjustments.
    With Aperture 3, each preview images initially look fine after import, but when Aperture re-renders it from the RAW file (e.g. when displaying the full-size image), the colors are drastically intensified, and the hue is shifted generally towards green/blue. I've checked the RAW Fine Tuning, and it is set to the defaults. If I turn the default RAW Fine Tuning settings all the way down, the image is still not at all like the preview from the camera - it becomes much darker and stays too blue/green, with washed-out colors.
    A friend with a Canon EOS 5D MkII also recently upgraded her Mac from Aperture 2 to 3, and hasn't experienced any problems. We've tried importing RAW files from my (non-MkII) camera to her Mac (with the default RAW Fine Tuning settings), and get the same results as with my own Mac (i.e. strange colors), so the problem seems to be related to the camera model.
    I've also noticed that scanned greyscale tiff images (including images that were originally imported under Aperture 2) are changed when first displayed by Aperture 3 - they become darker and more contrasty, with lots of information lost in the shadow areas.
    I've also tried removing Aperture preferences, Aperture itself, and re-installing from download, with no change in the problem. (Aperture is the current latest version, 3.3.2.)
    Has anyone experienced similar problems?

    I'm having the same problem.
    iMac running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 and Aperture 3.3.2.  Workflow is importing through Canon's DPP and then using referenced images in Aperture.  The images look great in LR4, or Canon's DPP but are flat and dingy in Aperture.
    There's a free preset that goes part way to fixing it at http://theapertureblog.com/2011/02/10/my-aperture-workflow-for-working-with-cano n-5d-mark-ii-files/
    but as good as this fix is, it doesn't quite do the trick. [not being a hater, and not saying I can do better]
    I just got back from shoooting 1,500 images with a 5DMii and a T2i using Canon 24-105L IS, 70-200 2.8L, 50 1.8 and a Sigma 120-400 and the T2i images are not just better, they're in a different league.
    I've tried shooting in Faithful, Neutral and also toggling these presets in different ways and still can't get Aperture to match what I see on the camera's screen or in other Apps.  I love the interface and DB of Aperture, but what's the point of using it if it doesn't produce and awesome image in the end?

  • Pentax K-x RAW color shift problem with Aperture 3

    I have seen a few posts similar to what my problem is but not exactly.I have two Pentax K-200D's and a new Pentax K-x. I shoot RAW with all of them and the K-200D's work great. The RAW files however from the K-x are doing something strange. Sometimes (more and more though) the files are being imported into Aperture and there is a radical color shift after they finish loading. ALL of the preview thumbnails look fine in the camera and the Aperture import window. However, after importing them and processing is complete, some of the shots have a magenta color shift, but most that have this problem shift radically to a green tint. Everybody looks like they are in "The Matrix."
    I do not have any brightness correction on the camera turned on as other posts imply might be the problem. I have also remove the Aperture RAW 3.2 and tried 3.0 and 3.1 with no solution. 3.0 doesn't recognize the files at all and 3.1 does the same thing as 3.2. Here are two examples of UNEDITED RAW files:
    Frame that looks fine in RAW
    http://gallery.me.com/mattcline#100470/IMGP5982&bgcolor=black
    The next frame taken with the same settings on the camera:
    http://gallery.me.com/mattcline#100470/IMGP5983&bgcolor=black
    I do have one possible pattern. I had the camera set on rapid fire capture. It appears to me that the first frame I take when the shutter button is depressed looks and translates fine. All the subsequent frames take in rapid fire under the same shutter release have the green shift when taking shots in relative shade. Things taken in bright sunlight have the magenta shift.
    Any ideas on what is going on or how to fix this?
    Thanks.

    I just downloaded Apple's RAW 3.3 and it still made no difference.
    Going back over the files, I found that going back and forth between the two, see no difference in the RAW processing headings. I did see however that in the meta data that the two pictures I have in the example of those listed above have one difference. There is a setting on the Exposure Bias for the one that was fine was -0.3 ev and the one that has the green contrast blast has an Exposure Bias of 0.3 ev. So the one that looks right is slightly negative. Doesn't seem like that should be a big difference, but apparently it is.
    I did take some pictures with the RAW+JPG setting and I had the same problem with the RAW files. Some were ok, some were green, others were magenta shifted. However, all the JPG files looked just fine.
    Switching from Aperture isn;t really an option for me. I have been using it for a long time and it generally works very well...perfectly with my K-200D's. It's just some bug with the RAW decoder for the K-x.
    It's a known bug and I have been in touch with Apple staff over it, including engineers. It's not just the K-x. Other brands (Canon) and models suffer from the RAW processor gone wrong.
    Right now there is no fix. At the pace Apple works at, there may not be one for quite some time. Use JPEG, use iPhoto, or move to Lightroom.
    Another suggestion is to phone customer service and complain that their "Pro" program is not working as expected. I spent hours with an engineer going over the issue including a screen share session, only to be told to use JPEG.

  • Brush pressure and lag problem with CS4

    I've been having a huge problem with Photoshop CS4 and the brushes. Whenever I go to brush, the pressure will turn off and on randomly with each stroke, and it lags horribly. I've installed CS4 on two computers with Windows 7, and both have this problem, but my old computer which had Vista was perfectly fine. I've tried downloading new versions of CS4, turning the OpenGL on and off, updating the GPU, downloading the Windows 7 tablet driver (that made it worst), and a bunch of other things. Nothing has worked, and this problem has been going on for two months. I'm starting to think the only way to fix this problem is by switching back to Vista. Can anyone please help me solve this? Thank you.
    My computer is an HP that runs on Windows 7, my Tablet is a Wacom Intuos3, and I have Photoshop CS4 Extended 11.0.2

    Others have reported that completely removing the tablet driver(s) first, then installing the very latest from the Wacom web site have made things work.
    Good luck.

  • Problems  with CS4 when several photos are open

    Hello all,
    I have a problem with Photoshop CS4. When I have several photos open, the borders of the underlying is shining through:
    This remains until I move the upper picture. Its a rather ennoying effect...
    My configuration is the following:
    Windows XP Professional SP3, Pentium 4 Dual 3.2 Ghz, 3.25 GB RAM, NVidia Quadro FX 1500, driver 6.14.11.8120, plenty of HD space, etc...
    Photoshop CS4 11.0.1
    Who can help?
    Thanks in advance, Dan

    What springs to the eye is that it's the UI elements (the frames around the images) not the pixel content, so I'd rule out any OpenGL issues. More likely it's a general memory shortage of the graphics system, which either is due to using excessive screen resolutions, another app stealing resources or a configuration problem. I would definitely check the NVidia panel and see, if you have not inadvertently toggled some critical setting. Furthermore look, whether some program is running in the background that may steal the screen buffer. Funnily, Corel Capture could be such a suspicious tool, if it's running all the time. Also turn off the rulers. There has been an issue with those and it may still not be fixed in the latest update. As a last thing to look into, of course make sure to get rid of any fancies you may be using, e.g. drop shadows on your windows, a desktop image, transparent window dragging and such. all those consume memory on the graphics card.

  • My problem with CS4

    I am having a problem with Photoshop CS4 that I am unable to find a resolution for.... hopefully someone on this forum will be able to help.
    o CS4 version 11.0.2
    o Operating system is Windows 7 (64 bit)
    o 8G of Ram
    Problem:
    After using the patch tool. I am unable to use the clone/stamp or healing brush tool. My workaround for this is....
    o create a new layer and proceed.
    o exit CS4.... restart and proceed.
    Any ideas on what I need to do to get the other tools working after I use the patch tool?
    I have tried recreating the preference file and resetting the tools and reinstalling CS4 with no luck....

    I have a copy of Photoshop CS4 running on Windows 7 x64.  I can use the Patch Tool, then Clone or Healing brush tools just fine, so it's not an inherent problem with Photoshop CS4.
    Either you're doing something I'm not or something's wrong on your particular system.  You are remembering to deselect after using the Patch tool, right?
    On the assumption it's not that, but some problem on your system, have you tried disabling OpenGL Drawing?  If not, try the following - it will help determine whether you need an updated display driver.
    1.  Open Photoshop.
    2.  Go into Edit - Preferences - Performance.
    3.  Uncheck the box [  ] Enable OpenGL Drawing.
    4.  OK out, then close Photoshop.
    5.  Restart Photoshop and see if the problem persists.
    If it does not persist, then your problem is likely tied to Photoshop's use of OpenGL, and it's pretty well-known that only recently have OpenGL implementations in display drivers been getting more solid.  Visit the web site of the maker of your video card and download/install their latest release for your hardware and operating system, then re-enable OpenGL drawing, restart Photoshop, and test again.
    Good luck!

  • Lot of problems with CS4.

    Okay... well, i recently upgraded to Flash CS4, and im having a lot of annoying problems with it so far. Can the pencil tool stop straightening out my curves and make it look like i carved it? The Smoothing setting seems to be disabled and locked at 50, and twiddling in the Drawing settings in Preferences didnt do any good. Also, With the new motion tweening method, how do you create a new keyframe after the motion tween? Not a blank keyframe but a keyframe with the symbol in the new tweened position? It seems to be greyed out.

    1.  in the tools panel, after clicking the pencil, a pencil mode icon will appear at the base of the panel. you can use one of 3 settings.
    2.  the cs4 tweening engine is different than previous flash versions.  to learn how to tween using the cs4 tweening engine:  http://www.gotoandlearn.com/play?id=88

  • Printing problems with CS4.

    Dear members:
    After several attempts to print black-and-white photos in Photoshop CS4 I decided to give up and seek help.
    I have followed the steps I believe are the right ones and the same I have used before with previous versions of Photoshop. First I applied the command Image > Adjustments > Black & White ... and my color photo became black-and-white on screen. I made an attempt to print but the print came out looking blueish (as if it had some kind of blue duotone applied to it). Second I tried the same settings and also set the printer (an Epson R 1800 photo printer) to black instead of color. Again the same result. In my last attempt I converted the image using the same command above (Image > Adjustments > Black & White ...), then I used the command Image > Adjustments > Desaturate and after that I applied the command Image > Mode > Grayscale. In addition to all these steps I also entered black in the printer dialog box instead of color. Still the print came out blueish just as it had before.
    What must one do to "convince" Photoshop to print a color photo as a true black-and-white image ?
    Thank you in advance for your help.
    Joseph

    Thanks Milenium. I appreciate your response. Yes I do work in RGB. The profile is sRGB IEC 61966-2.1( The same as for all the photos) The monitor profile (Sony SDM-HS95P-DVI-D) is set at the system as well as the HP printer profile. I would like to update what has happened since my last post:
    I reinstalled CS3 and installed a Canon Pixima 9000. The Cannon was just as much a mess as the HP vibrant colors and dark muddy prints, but the Canon had another problem...It was shifting red-magenta to yellow -orange However what I learned is that CS3 and CS4 were sharing some functions and settings even though I had the syncronization function turned off I.E, color settings, and working space. I couldn't bother with the Canon and since it was a loaner I took it out of the equationfor the time being. Next I read a post from 2004 on some web site from folks who were having similar problems with CS3 and HP printers( I never had a problem with this combo and as previously mentioned I do a great deal of wide printing with pretty good gosh darn results) Howerer, a poster said that she went into the system printer profile and deleted any profile there, then set up CS3 with no color management, and set the print function on the HP at application managed color( which she believed to be HP's no color management at the printer if if no color management is selected in photoshop. KInd of makes sense,she attained a 90% improvement in her prints. Well I gave it a shot and set everything up just as she suggested including the deleting of all the system printer files and got the same results as she did in back in 2004. A step foward I hope. If you have any other suggestions please let me know. My next step would be to remove Design Premium and see if that has any effect on restoring CS3 to it's previous standard vanilla set up of let the printer manage the color with the sRGB IEC 61966-2 profile.

  • Serious problem with CS4. Hard to describe...

    I just got the CS4 upgrade. I have a zillion sites that
    worked fine in CS3 and before. When I work on, save, and upload
    pages on these sites now, I first get an error about there being a
    duplicate Head area on the page, and then when I upload it, I get
    this:
    http://www.schaefergreenhouses.com/online-flowers/WW-202.html
    Here's what the top is supposed to look like:
    http://www.schaefergreenhouses.com/online-flowers/WW-303.html
    See all the garbage at the top? What is that? I can't tell.
    This has something I'm assuming to do with Templates, I don't
    know. Last night I spent the whole night re-building pages to fix
    this. I had to take the existing page, open a new one based on the
    same template, copy/paste over the info, and re-save to get it to
    work again.
    I have 4 sites that are setup the exact same way for this
    client, and I went in to another site, opened a page, re-assigned
    the template (I had the wrong one on that page), and when uploaded,
    back came the gibberish. So, something has changed in CS4 that is
    going to cause me some serious headaches.
    There is an Advanced Open Window extension on the pages, of
    which I made sure was the current version. There is nothing else
    weird, except a simple SSI include for the top bar. Which is now
    gone, so is that the issue?
    I'm clueless, and I just can't believe I have to literally
    spend the next 2 days re-building pages on this other site (which
    is 4 times the size), plus all the others, plus possibly all my
    other sites! I do not want to have to keep CS3, that is idiotic.
    Any ideas? Since it's at the top, and I can't see the SSI
    thing, is that it?

    Look at the source code generate, you will see this after a
    load of
    javascript:
    </script><!-- InstanceEndEditable
    --></head><!-- InstanceEnd --></html>
    The closing html tag should only be at the end of the page.
    Then you have some javascript that has &lt;!-- instead of
    <!-- and the
    same with its closing //--&gt; which should eb //-->
    Then you have yet another opening html tag, and another
    opening head tag.
    A little but further down down you have your google analytics
    code after
    the closing head tag, it should be before that really.
    All these problems are nothing to do with CS4. If you are
    using SSI's
    then make sure there is no opening and closing head or html
    tags.
