RAW 6.1 in PSE8

I understand that the ACR functionality in PSE8 is limited compared to what's available in a full-featured PS install of RAW. I used to enjoy using the full-featured version through Mac Bridge CS4, but -sniff!- that reached the end of the road with v5.7.
It appears that the automatic lens correction capabilities of RAW 6.1 are also not available in the PSE8 version of that update. Is that correct, or am I missing it?
thx

That's correct.
No automatic lens correction in the PSE version of 6.1
The PSE Editor does have a Correct Camera Distortion feature though. It's just not the same as the new Lens Correction stuff in ACR 6.1
Open an image in Editor and then do Filter -> Correct Camera Distortion.
Not sure if it suits your need, but it's worth a look.

  • Unable to open raw file editor in PSE8

    Hi,
I have just purchased PSE8 and after installing on my laptop,  I cannot open a camera raw file in the raw file editor. Instead in opens directly in the PSE8 editor.
My software and camera details are as follows: Adobe Photoshop Elements Language Version: 8.0.0 (8.0 (20090905.r.605812))
Operating System: Windows Vista 32-bit  Version: 6.0 Service Pack 2le editor.
My camera is a Nikon D80 and raw files have the extension .NEF
PSE 8 camera raw plugin is version 5.5.0.97
I have tried removing PSE 8 and the plugin as defined in solution 2 at:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407110.html
I did have a trial version of PSE8 installed before purchase, but removed it from my laptop as defined above before installing PSE8.
    Any help appreciated.
    Best regards,
    TonyMV8

Thanks for your reply. I have followed the instructions as defined at: http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-faq.htm#_Problems_open ing_raw and the problem is still there.
I have alos completly removed PSE8 and the associated plugins form my laptop including empting the trash bin and then started reloaded PSE8, but hte end result does not change anything.
You asked how I was opening a raw file, well what I am doing is as follows:
    1. I open PSE8 from my desktop.
    2. Select 'Edit' and PSE8 Editor opens.
    3. Select 'File' then 'Open'
    4. Highlight a 'NEF' with 'Files of type: set to 'All Formats' and select 'Open' ( I have also tried changing the 'All formats' to raw files, but this does not change anything).
    5. The raw file opens within PSE8, and not the raw editor.
At stage 5 on my desktop PC running under XP in PSE8, the raw editor appears as per below.
    Any thoughts and ideas appreciated.
    Best regards,
    TonyMV8

  • Missing RAW editing screen in PSE8 Trial version

Can anyone help me with this one?
I have previously used PSE6. When opening a RAW image I have first gone through a RAW Editor screen before editting in PSE6. When
I open a RAW image in the TRIAL version of PSE8 it takes me straight to the PSE Editor, missing out the RAW editing stage. My camera is an Olympus E510, about 2 years old.
The HELP files clearly show the RAW editing operation so I know the functionality is in PSE8. It seems to assume that the RAW editing screen opens automatically and I can't see what else to do. In desperation I turned on the FILE FORMATS Plug In to see if that would help - it didn't. I need to know there is a RAW Editor that I can use before purchasing the software.
Adobe have told me that they don't support the Trail version and so won't answer my question...   Not exactly a recommendation of good customer service if their pre sale support is zero!  Their official answer to the above question was that they did not support PSE6 anymore and that I should upgrade to PSE8 Their last suggestion was to ask this group.
If anyone has PSE8 and is prepared to try a .ORF file for me I'd be very grateful.  Thanks, Keith

  • RAW to JPEG in PSE8

How do I save a RAW file as a JPEG in PSE8? I can save it as a DNG or as a TIFF, but there's no option for saving the RAWs as a JPEG unless I'm missing something. At the moment I have to use the Canon software to convert my RAW files to JPEGs before I do any manipulation in PSE8. It'd be nice to be able to open a RAW file, tweak exposure etc and then save it as a JPEG all in the same programme. I can do it in Corel PintShop Pro X3, but I prefer PSE8. Is there a way of doing this?

One thing you could do ... if you want ... is to make your adjustments to the RAW photo and then leave it as RAW. In other words, not convert it JPG at all, saving disk space and avoiding the compression artifacts that happen when you convert to JPG. If so, just click on DONE. (Why do you want these converted to JPG, anyway?)
If you want to save as JPG, you need to change the photo to 8bits.
Your current workflow, allowing Canon software to convert the RAW to JPG so you can edit it in ACR, seems pointless to me. You lose the benefits of RAW, and you get the reduced image quality of a JPG, plus extra steps are involved. I think RAW workflows ought to leave photos as RAW until such time as you absolutely must have the photo in another format (like e-mailing or posting to the web).

  • Cant Open Camera Raw file in PSE8

    Hi Folks
Please help ?.. I have recently purchased PSE8 for the Imac. I cant open my Camera Raw processed Images in PSE8. My workflow is very simple > Bridge > Select Image I want to work on > Open in Camera raw > alter Image > Select Done when finished > which returns me to Bridge with the Altered Image added to Bridge > click on the Image I processed in Camera Raw to Open in PSE8 > PSE8 opens but with the ordinal unprocessed image, I can not get the Image processed in camera raw to open at all in PSE8 ...
So is it actually possible to open a Camera Raw processed file in PSE8 and if so how ?
Many thanks folks for any help you may have with this..

    Hi Barbara
Does saving the file in Camera Raw alter the original file in Bridge or does it save a completely new file in Bridge with the changes ? As I do not want to lose any of the files in their original state.
    Thanks for your help.

  • NEF RAW Files from Nikon D7000

I have just bought a nice shiny new Nikon D7000 and set it up to use Nikon NEF RAW files.
I've been processing RAW files on Elements for about 7 years now but when I downloaded from my new camera I was informed that the filese were corrupt or not acceptable to PSE 8. My D200 had no such problems.
How do I get over this?
    Andy

Open the editor and click help à Updates
You should be able to update to Adobe Camera Raw 6.2 with PSE8 which will cover the D7000
In case of difficulty Andy, go directly to the ACR site for manual update.

  • How do I open .jpg in Camera Raw in PSE8

Hi. I've searched and coudn't find the answer.
I installed PSE8, and Camera Raw 5.5, which shows up in the Help-Plugins list.
How do I open a .jpg file inside Raw to make adjustments?
I only see where it will open with PSE.
    Thanks.

    Sorry, just found it.
    File-Open in-Camera Raw...
    select .jpg file
    OK.
    Talk about indirect...

  • How do I stop PSE8 from overwriting raw files?

I evidently did something wrong.  I wanted to edit my camera raw file but save the finished product as a JPEG.  When I was finished, I noticed the raw file is now changed the same as the JPEG.
I made edits in Adobe Camera Raw Editor and clicked on Open Image to import the changes to the PSE8 Editor.  Is this proper?  I am learning PSE8 and am a little mixed up on use of the Camera Raw Editor and transferring the file to PSE8's Editor.
I don't really want to ever make any changes to the Raw files.  I wanted to keep them original.  Must I make those files "Read Only" in Windows to protect the files?
I have tried searching for info about this, with little success.  I evidently can't find the right terminology for the search.
Any advice would be appreciated!  Thanks in advance!
    Gary.

What you describe isn't possible. PSE never changes a raw photo; in fact, it can't change a raw photo — the software simply doesn't have the capability.
Perhaps, if you are looking at the Organizer, you are looking at the JPG in a "Version Set", where in this instance the Organizer only shows the JPG and not the RAW. You should be able to uncover the RAW (which is "hidden below" the JPG in the Version Set) by right-clicking on the JPG in the Organizer and selecting Version Set->Expand...

Sounds good to me. I should point out that normally, you would do as many edits as possible in Adobe Camera Raw; and then only use the PSE Editor if you need to make edits that can't be done in ACR (for example, layers). You would NOT create a JPG or TIF or PSD if ACR did all the editing you need; in that case click on Done.
I don't really want to ever make any changes to the Raw files.  I wanted to keep them original.  Must I make those files "Read Only" in Windows to protect the files?
Trust me, your original RAW files are not changed at all.

  • Lr3 photo - edit in PSE8 - no raw option?

To edit a raw photo in the Lightroom 3 Library - into PSE 8 - is there not an option to Edit that photo in its raw format?
I only have one option, which is: Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments, and its to edit in PSE8 at a TIFF or PSD file
can I somehow choose to edit the raw file?
    thank-you

LR 3.2 uses the equivalent of ACR 6.2 so its possible to do your full edits to the raw data there.
PSE 8 has limited functions of ACR available, so why would you wish to use that instead of LR which has the full functionality?

  • PSE8 raw editor

I have just loaded pse8 ( legitimate) on a new 10 inch screen laptop. When I open a photo to editor from organizer, it skips the raw interface altogether and opens directly in the editor screen. Is this to do with screen size? I have pse8 on my 17 inch laptop & pc and have not had any problems with raw. I have been using pse since version 2 and using raw since version 5 and it has always opened the raw interface automatically.
I am puzzled...help would be appriciated

    A slightly off-topic question
I have PSEv.8, now with Camera Raw 6.2. I opened a JPEG file via File>open as and worked the sliders.
I went back a day later via File>open recently edited file, and it opens in Raw and its associated dialog, although in properties it is still classified as JPEG. Is this behavior the norm?

  • My raw files wont open in pse8 or dng 6.4, why not?

    hi all,
I've got a sony 580 and I cant get my raw files to open in either pse 8 or dng 6.4.
I've updated the camera raw plug-in to 6.2.0.29, which i understand does not have support for the 580.
But the troubleshoot says to try dng  instead which does list the 580 in its supported cameras.
any ideas why it wont work.
incidentally i find it very sharp practice for adobe to not support a major manufacturers raw files in a piece of software that's really not that old. (even if its not the mosr recent version of pse). I would not have purchased it if i knew i would have to upgrade every time i changed the camera body i'm using

    thanks for the reply noel,
the camera body and pse8 were purchased a couple of months apart, so not really intending to replace either anytime soon......
my issue with it not working is mainly frustration i guess.... having spent a lot of money on the camera i did hope that the industry leading photoediting software (albeit the cut-down version) would work with it without any problems. I'm very happy with pse's performance once i can actually open a file lol
When i go to the folder where i have the raw files stored and try to open with dng it doesn't show any files. (yes they are definitely in there, they can be seen fine in windows explorer, and picasa will quite happily open them)
the version of dng is 6.4.0.139
the source folder says ' no items match your search ' when i select it

  • Using Camera Raw in PSE8

I nornally use Photoshop CS3 but I have just download the TRY version of PSE8 and would like to open jpg files via Camera Raw, how can I set up the Preferences to be able to do this, is it possible or can I only open raw files via Camera Raw.

Thank you for your quick reply, but I have been able to set up CS3 so that all jpg files open in Camera Raw first, I can then make changes and then open in CS3.  It seems that under Edit/Preferences/File_Handling I am able to set a File Compatibility check box that enables me to open jpg files within Adobe Camera Raw.  I don't seem to be able to find the function in PSE8.

  • Correctin camera distortion in Camera raw with PSE8

    I have a question,
In PS CS3 when i open a RAW file from bridge, i can correct Camera distortion (lens distortion) for example Lens vignetting in the raw converter CAmera Raw .
There is a TAB with this options.
Now i downloaded (for another computer) PSE 8 with bridge for CS4
When i open a RAW file from bridge in Camera Raw 5.5 there is not the option anymore for correcting the camera(lens) distortion.
Is this because it is a trial version or is this because it is PSE in stead of Photoshop CS?
    does anybody know this?
I like to know before i buy PSE 8
I know i can correct in PSE itself but then i need to do for every photo itself and not in batch
Thanks in advance for an answer
    Best regards,
    Gluay

    BArbara,
thanks. Yes i was talking about PSE8 for MAC.
    It works now.
