RAW and Canon G2

Does anyone know how to get Canon G2 RAW files into iPhoto 5+?

I also have a G2 and the iPhoto 5 help info says that they focused on SLR type cameras in this first attempt with RAW. Future versions would be adding more cameras to the supported list. So far I havent found the specs for iPhoto 6 that list the supported cameras. Bummer for us !!

  • Why do my raws look different when I view them in Adobe Bridge/Adobe Camera Raw and Canons Digital P

    Hello all,
I am sorta new to taking Raw photographs and I have been been using Adobe Bridge/Camera Raw to edit. When I take my photos (I am using a Canon t2i) I have it set to save a raw and a jpg. When I view these images in Adobe Bridge/Camera Raw I notice a clear difference in the jpg and raw (I understand the whole concept behind raw vs. jpg. so im not questioning why one looks different) It is obvious all the adjustments that were applied to my jpg. vs the natural raw.  My question is: When I view the same two images in the software that came with my camera, canon digital photo professionals, the canon and raw look almost identical.... My assumption is that canon is applying the same "adjustments" to my raw as it did to the jpgs?  Has anyone used these two programs and noticed this?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
    Michelle

Can't say I'm an expert on DPP myself either.  I've only run it a few times myself.
If you're seeing Photoshop freeze just by looking at the File Info tab, that's certainly not expected and you should start a tread specifically to discuss that.  The forum may be able to help you get that working.
I happen to like the color my camera delivers in its embedded JPEGs (which I use to quickly review shots via IrfanView).  Starting with that color in Camera Raw by default just feels very natural and integrated.
Without a specific custom profile to help you with the task, here's my suggestions for the next best thing:
    1.  Take an image with a range of different colors in it.
    2.  Open the embedded JPEG also using whatever means you have to do so.
    3.  Open it also in Camera Raw and make sure you're using the Camera Raw default parameters.
    4.  Go into the Camera Calibration tab (little camera icon), and choose the Camera Standard profile as provided by Adobe.
    5.  Tweak the various sliders so as to match the color between what you're seeing in the JPEG and Camera Raw.
    6.  Save new Camera Raw defaults.
    Some notes:
Make sure you leave the White Balance on As Shot, since storing a specific white balance is probably not going to be helpful.
Test your settings and repeat the above to tweak them as needed using other images.
Keep in mind that not every application does proper color-management.  IrfanView can be set up to do so, and I don't recall whether you have to tweak a default setting to make it do that or not (it's been a while).
    Hope this helps!

    Hi,
I have bought the extremely expensive Photoshop CS5 in summer and I have been waiting Camera Raw opens Raw files shooted with my compact camera Canon Powershot S95 (on the market since August).
Can you please fix the problem or should I wait till the next model of compact camera?
    Thank you

Note that there is a Camera Raw 6.3 beta copy available.  I don't know whether it understands your camera.

  • Camera Raw and Canon 70D

I just got a Canon 70D. Great camera, but having trouble opening the CR2 files. I have a Creative Suite 5. I tried doing an update to the version 6.7 that is needed. I found the files and updated to a recent version 6.7.1.340. That is what my camera raw lists now, however I am still not having luck with the CR2. I am not want an upgrade of the who Photoshop at the moment and only asking to upgrade the option to make me see my 70D files. Do I need to upgrade just for that? I downloaded a DNG converter 8.2 for now to do the work I need, but what should I do? I searched around and had little success. Troubleshooting issues like that can be time intensive especially on days when you cannot just contact support. Thanks
    Brent

Your camera requires Camera Raw 8.2, which is not compatible with your version of Photoshop. You will either have to use the DNG converter, and Lightroom to your workflow, or upgrade your Photoshop.

  • Adobe Raw and Canon 6D

As an OAP who has recently upgrade my camera to Canon 6D I now find that Photoshop 5.5 will not open the raw files, if I use Lt Room 5.7 no problems (Lt Room 6 just been ordered).as a photographer I mainly use Lt Room. At the last meeting of my local Photographic Society I picked up an old copy (july 2014) PhotoPlus  in a discussion on Raw files it show that for my camera I would need to purchase Photoshop 6CC. As some one who uses photoshop on an irregular basis to purchase CC version would not be economical.
Has anyone created a plugin or an update which will help with this?

Yes, you can save directly from Lr to a DNG, backwards compatible to as early as ACR 2.4.

Lightroom doesn't actually use Camera Raw, it has the same interface built in. Camera Raw versions newer than 6.7.1 simply are not supported in CS5. You'll have to use the DNG converter or Lightroom to convert.

Thanks for your help.  I checked out DNG on YouTube and understand more

  • Aperture and Canon 40D RAW

When will Aperture support RAW from my Canon 40D?
In the meantime how should I handle my RAW images? Can I import them into Aperture now with metadata attached and when the support is there all my photos and metadata will appear?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

The first question has been asked many times in the last 4 weeks and there's no answer. Ask more and Apple will lock this thread.
Second question. If you shoot RAW only, Aperture will import the file, and you won't be able to see it or work with it. You can export it to use Canon's DPP, Photoshop or other available converter to process it, save it to TIFF or JPEG, and then reimport to Aperture for now.
If you shoot RAW and JPEG, Aperture will import both files, but it's not apparent where the JPG file is. Control-click or right-click the grey square thumbnail or the reddish main window, and click "New Version from Master JPEG" to reveal the full-resolution JPEG image the camera took.
When OSX starts supporting 40D in the future, those RAW files will automatically be shown inside Aperture.

  • Aperture and Canon 5dMark11 Raw

I used my new 5d recently and used the combo sRAW1 and JPEG to be imported to Aperture (latest version). It seems Aperture only works with full RAW and not the other RAWs on the Canon. I called Canon but they only suggested importing using their supplied software DPP. It works but I'd like to know about Aperture.
Any thoughts on this being so or am I missing something?
    Thanks,
    John

Most if not all third-party raw convertor programs will only work with the full raw file from a dslr. They won't work on the sub-variations like sRAW. For that, as Canon said, you have to go to their software. IOW, if you stray from the full raw format you have to go to you the camera manufacturer's software.

  • DNG 4.2 and Canon G9 raw CR2 problem

I have been unsuccesful getting the 4.2 DNG to convert the CR2 Canon G9 files, getting an error message that the file type is not supported. Running Windows XP Home. Any ideas as to how I can fix this. Thanks, Jeff

I just helped my friend with the Canon G9 Raw file won't open and recognized on Mac Computer.
Problem when try to open or drag the Raw image (*.CR2 File), I got an error message says the file type is either not supported or corrupted, also the file in the browser are all grayed out, means can't click & select & open. So I re-install the software just to make sure the software is fine.
The software comes with the camera is easy to install, here is the thing I was stumbled but figured it out.
    1. Use browser to find the raw file.
    2. click to select the file
    3. go to Menu Bar under "File" there is a section you'll see "Process Raw File" or something like that, then you are done, from there you can edit and open a Raw file.
My impression towards to the raw image quality and canon software: The software interface is not as nice compare to PS Element 4 Raw Plug-in, especially there is not button for "Processing Raw" on the browser window that you have to go to File >.. , I hope this is just for Mac users or I have to say the software is silly.

If you go to Photoshop>About Plug-in and click on the words Camera Raw, what version does it list?
I suspect you still have Camera Raw 7.0

  • M-RAW and S-RAW of Canon 7D with 5.6

    Hello,
as I see, unfortunately version 5.6 doesn't really support M-RAW and S-RAW of Canon 7D. DNG files for M-RAW will inflate about 50% in size of the original M-RAW file (18MB -> 28MB). The only intention to shoot in M-RAW is the smaller size of files.
    Best regards

Hmm, I'm not satisfied about this explanation. Maybe I don't understand the technical side, but as I said, the M-RAW has got 10MP and the normal RAW has got 18MP. I really expect that the DNG from M-RAW is smaller than the one from normal RAW...
Well, if you don't understand the technical side, then you don't have any basis to expect a certain behavior, which reflects purely technical aspects. Anyway, I try to give a brief explanation of it.
The Bayer type raw data has only one value per pixel, that is the "red", "green" or "blue" raw value (which is not identical to the red, green or blue value from RGB). The mRaw and sRaw are demosaiced, each pixel has three components, red, green and blue. The red and blue components are the same for two neighbouring pixels, therefor they are not stored twice. (Think of this: the sRaw has only one quarter as many pixels as the normal raw, but the file size is closer to the half of the size of the normal raw). However, DNG does not support storing the data this way, therefor the DNG converter has to create a file, in which all pixels have all three components; thus the DNG contains much more data than the respective sRaw or mRaw.

  • Canon XSi and aperture, both RAW and jpg viewing?

I just got the Canon 450D and using Canon utility I see both the RAW and jpg pics import next to each other when I shoot in in the RAW and jpg mode. But I import to Aperture and I seem to only see one of them, the RAW one, not the jpg one. Is there a setting for this or am I missing something?
    Thanks

Just right click and choose new version from master JPG.
