RAW and Exported Jpegs in same catalog

I use lightroom to import raw files from my Nikon. Then i edit them and export the good ones to jpeg on my network share for viewing. When i import jpegs from my compact camera i import them directly to my network share. Before i always had the jpegs in to the same catalog just under the other path. But now with face recognitioning i get the face from both places with the exported ones. Is there a way to stack the jpeg with the raw file so that they only show once?

Raw and Jpeg next to each other can be treated as the same file, but only if they are in the same physical folder and have the same name.
Are your exported Jpeg files then re-imported into LR in a different folder? That's a problem for what you want to do (and in general I don't recommend reimporting duplicate images).
LR could do a great job of managing your network share using a published folder, if you included the Jpegs from your compact camera on the loca folder along with the raw images. With publish services and a published folder, LR will create (and remove) Jpeg images in a managed location you choose, and you don't need to worry about reimporting duplicates.

    Hello Junior DBA,
maybe try it with the "copy command".

  • After editing camera raw and export as jpeg, image becomes overexposed when view on light room..please advise.

need some help here. don't know if i can describe this accurately.
i was using lightroom previously. edit my raw file and then export in jpeg. everything appear normal as what i wanted.
recently i got cs4 and started using bridge. now after i edit my photo in lightroom and export, the view of the jpeg file appears overexpose(exposure was increase) and when view on adobe bridge same problem. but if i open photoshop and use my workspace colour setting everything is ok. when i see my picture on iphoto it is normal as per i have edited. i just don't know what setting i have touch that cause my viewing of edited photo on lightroom and bridge goes overexpose. on bridge, thumbnail ok but preview bad...
for the record: i just install CS4 and snow leopard recently. before this i have no problems with LR. I'm also not sure if i have accidentally change any settings.
i shoot with a 5D mark 2 and use the raw file for edit.
    will appreciate any advise. Thanks

Is it possibe to return to a RAW image and edit it once I've exported it to another location as jpeg?
    Yes
I've edited and exported an image to a different folder on my desktop. I've realised I still need to do some work on it
but when I try and open it again in Lightroom ( I see it in Library)  I get a mesaage saying file not found...Please help
We're going to need a lot more details aobut exactly (EXACTLY) the steps you follow after you do the export, because normally I would say this is one of the easiest things possible in Lightroom. Are any files moved or renamed or disks unplugged in between the time of export and the time when you try to edit again?

  • Can't import RAW and psd file with same name different extension

Trying to import a folder of images from desktop that I have been working with in Bridge CS3.
LR won't import a RAW file that has a PSD file by the same name. Tried renaming the PSD and deleting the one with the same name, but says it is still there and won't import the RAW file - What is the correct workaround on this? Why can't it import same name files with different extensions?

A forum search for 'RAW + JPEG' will give you more posts on this than you care to read. This will change. For now, import the RAW and PSD's from separate folders and then move them together for within LR.
LR is seeing the RAW as a sidecar to the PSD. It is an unforseen effect of the RAW + JPEG thing where they decided to not import the JPEG, seeing it as basically a preview image for the RAW.

  • My D800 SD card is not recognized by my new IPad. I have the lightning connector and tried but RAW and small Jpeg files...nothing!! Why not?

Cant use my IPad lightning connector for SD card with D800 even though I have tried RAW and increasingly smaller files with JPEG. Nothing works...HOw can that be that the files are recognized on a Mac but worthless for using an IPad??

  • Exported JPEG have same size with different PPI.

Hello, i just noticed that changing the PPI from 240 (taken with my Canon) to 100 and exporting the photos to JPEG sized as 2MP have no change at all in size. Shouldn't 100PPI be smaller in size?

A smartphone has a certain number of pixels on its screen. If you provide an image with that exact number of pixels, then it makes not the slightest difference whether or not the image is 240 ppi or 100 ppi or some other number. The number of pixels is the important factor, not the ppi. (By the way, whatever your smartphone display is still a "digital image")

  • Import and Export variables with same name

The nco3 throws and exception when a function has Import and Export variables with the same name.
    An example is BAPI_BATCH_CREATE.
At the moment my solution is create a ZBAPI_BATCH_CREATE that wraps the original BAPI but  has diferent names for import and export variables (IBATCH and OBATCH for BATCH variable).
Anyone has another more clean solution?

  • Delete RAW and set JPEG to Master

For a large number of photos, I imported both the RAW and JPEG versions from my cameras.  However, I no longer really need the RAW versions for many of them; I would like to delete them and reclaim the disk space they consume.
Can anyone tell me step-by-step how to (1) delete the RAW versions of selected images, and (2) set the remaining JPEG as Master?
    I'm using Aperture 3.4.1
    dt

It will be a lot of work, if you really want to do it, and it is a risky operation, I really cannot recommend to do it  ...
Back up your library, before you read on.
First of all, to make the jpegs the original master image files instead of the raw images select the images in the Browser and use the command "Photos > Use Jpeg as Original".
Then turn your images into referenced images and move the originals to a folder outside your Aperture Library by using the command "File > Relocate Originals" and selecting to move the files, not to copy them. Pick a folder where you want tthe images to stay permanently; you should not try to move them back after deleting the raws - that will result in error messages.
Then select an image in the Browser and use the command: "File > Show in Finder". In the Folder that opens, you can delete the raw files for each image.
Test, if you can still work with the image and edit it, after removing the raw. If there should be any problems, put the raw back and forget about it.
But if all is fine, remove more raws, as you see fit.
I'd keep the raws for the images that are most important to you, however.

    Léonie

  • PSE8 and PSE9 organizers use same catalog system?

Am currently using PSE8 on two systems but need to set it up on a third. Am considering whether to buy an add'l PSE8 license or a PSE9, but all of my images are stored on an external hard drive and are sometimes moved from computer to computer or shared over a network.  Are PSE8 and PSE9's organizers' databases compatible with each other?  In other words, can I access the same catalog (without conversions) from a system running PSE8 or PSE9?  Thanks.

The short anser is No. The PSE8 catalog has to be converted to a PSE9 catalog.

  • Aperture and export JPEG profiling

I've heard on a photo forum I go to regularly that there's some issue (at least to me it sounds like one) when JPEGs are exported out of Aperture.
Apparently the only way Aperture knows to do that is to assign a profile to exported file. Meaning that if the file is viewed through a software (Safari) which understands profiles, all is well, but if a software has no clue what a profile is than the images look rather flat and way different than when viewed in Aperture prior to export.
I am not using Aperture myself yet, but hope to get clarification on this as it just doesn't sound right that as good app as Aperture is would omit such a functionality especially considering Safari being the only color managed browser right now (maybe there's some other I am not aware of, but IE6 and firefox are not to my knowledge).
I agree that this is rather a flaw of all the other companies who were not yet been able to make their application color managed therefore not a flaw of Aperture. But the reality is that most people are not able to guarantee that their pictures will be only viewed through Safari.
    Thanks for your response.
    Regards
    Marek

Whenever Aperture exports a JPEG it doesn't just tag the output file with an ICC profile it also converts the RGB values accordingly. In other words, an image viewer can use the embedded ICC profile as a recipe for interpreting the RGB values in the file.
If you want to export for viewers that aren't colour space aware the best bet is using sRGB as your export profile. This (or something close) is what most "colour blind" web browsers assume when they render an image file.
Unfortunately, colour space aware browsers are few and far in between. This was the only reason for me to ditch my beloved Firefox and switch to Safari.
BTW, if you don't have Aperture but want to experiment with colour spaces and conversions, ColorSync Utility can be hours of fun. It presumably (most likely) uses the same routines for colour management that Aperture uses.
    Cheers
    Steffen.

  • Exif tool and Export Jpeg and Tiff files

I run Lightroom 4.4 under Apple OS X10.4.4
When I export files Exif Tool (in Graphic Converter) under ICC header shows for Jpeg "Primary Platform = Microsoft and for = Tiff Apple; and under ICC Profile Color profile for Jpeg = HP but Adobe 1998 for Tiff.  I can see that there is a difference between the profile for Jpeg and Tiff (eg sRgb and Adobe1998) but don't follow why the Primary platform differs and shows Microsoft for Jpeg and that the jpeg profile is HP.  Can anyone explain, please, and dose it matter anyway?   Thanks  Clive

A overview of ICC profile tags is here: http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/TagNames/ICC_Profile.html
Why the difference in the PrimaryPlatform tag, I don't know, it does not matter.
The ProfileCopyright tag is HP for sRGB, Kodak for ProPhotoRGB and Adobe for AbobeRGB (1998) of course.

  • How to import RAW and JPEG, but see only one image?

    This is driving me crazy.
I shoot sometimes RAW and sometimes JPEG on the same memory card. So some pictures have only a JPEG file, others (the ones I shot in RAW) have a RAW+JPEG pair (or at least, Aperture sees it that way when displaying the content of the memory card).
    What I want:
    - import only once
    - for JPEG files, JPEG is imported as master
    - for RAW files, RAW only is imported as master
There seems to be no combination of the import settings that lets me do this?!?!?!?
If, under the "RAW+JPEG Pairs" settings I select "RAW files only", all JPEG files DISAPPEAR from the import list. WHY? This setting should be for "RAW+JPEG Pairs" only, it should not affect images that only have a JPEG file. I want to import JPEG files as well, so I select "Both (RAW as master)". Now, in the imported project there are TWO images to deal with, which is not what I want.
Even if I were to import twice, how can I exclude the duplicates?

Please ignore my post. Aperture behaves correctly. I got confused because many pics look alike, but aren't really the same pic. Sorry for the confusion.

  • RAW and JPEG as one thumbnail ?

    Hi there,
is it possible to view RAW+JPEG as one thumbnail in Bridge like in Lightroom? I shoot RAW and JPEG and so i see the same picture 2 times. One RAW Version and one JPEG.
I want to see them both as one thumbnail. They should be grouped together. So if i delete it the RAW and the JPEG version gets deleted.
    please help!
    regards,
    Mari

You still don't understand what i mean and you seem to have no idea what i'm talking about. But it's okay..
Maybe you should read a little more about how LR works before you write about things you clearly don't know anything about.
i explain it to you one last time: I have RAW and JPEG Files. I'm looking only at the RAW Files when i sort out my photos and i don't want to delete the JPEGs manually. So i want Bridge to stack JPG+RAW together so they both get deleted when i delete the image. it's not that hard to understand actually
For those who understood what my problem was:
I found a script for LR that does exactly what i was looking for in Bridge: -> RAW + JPG Stack
So my problem is solved and everythings works fine

  • Importing Raw and Jpeg file formats to Mac Pro

Since migrating to Photos from iPhotos when importing photos only Jpegs seem to get imported, not Raw files when shot in both formats on my NikonD5300. Does anyone know how i can import the two file formats simultaneously? (I have double checked the settings on my camera!)
    Thanks Louise

Photos will import both the RAW and the JPEG, but stack them and use only one of them as the original file.
You will see badge overlays "J" or "R", indicating if the RAW or the JPEG is currently uses as the original file to render edits.
Open the photo in "EDIT" mode, then you will be able to switch to the "RAW" version as the original file, in the "Image" menu.  The options "Use RAW as original" or "Use JPEG as original" are only available in Edit mode, also "Reprocess RAW"

  • A Question about RAW and Previews

I have just recently starting shooting in RAW (mostly for the post production editing abilities - I am an avid amateur photographer bent on learning as much as I can). I set my camera to capture in RAW + L. I don't know why I feel like I want it to capture both the RAW and JPEG file, and thus leads me to my first question: Is it necessary to have the camera capture both the RAW and Large JPEG? I am assuming the answer to be no, as I am sure if after importing the RAW file into Aperture, you could always export a JPEG if you wanted one? So no need to fill up your internal memory (if using managed masters) with the extra JPEG? Is this thinking correct?
Next, if you do import RAW-only files and then want to export certain images, do you have a choice to export the original RAW image? It seems that it only allows you to export a JPEG Original Size. To answer my own question, perhaps you have to export the Master in order to export the full RAW file when exporting? If you want to export a JPEG, you have to export not the Master, but a version of the Master? Is this correct?
Lastly, I wanted to ask a question about Previews. I have my preferences set so that previews have the highest quality with no limits to size. What is the significance of setting it this way? I just assumed that if I wanted to share an image at the highest quality without exporting it, this was the way to go. Is there any validity to this? The reason I ask is that I don't want to have all of these high quality previews taking up internal disk space if I really don't need to. Is there a way to change the preview size once previews are created? Meaning, if you have it set to generate low quality previews, can you change it dynamically to high and vice versa?
I know this is a lot in one post. Thanks for tackling it.
    Mac

You can change the quality of the Previews in the Preferences -> Previews tab.
You can regenerate Previews with the Delete and Update Previews under the Images menu.
