Raw Camera Support-Nikon D600

Where is the Aperture support for RAW images from a Nikon D600 ?

Hi Léonie,
I appreciate your answer.
You have given me a basic understanding of the relationship of RAW image to the sensor and its intricacies.
I am still frustrated, bacause buying a camera for me involves a lot of research and I feel I let the reviews convince me to purchase the D600. Now I realise, none of the reviewers talked about how they looked at the pictures. What software they used is not in the limelight. When I buy something, I would like to use it without feeling uncertain that the camera will ever come to life and the picture it takes will be what I should be seeing.
The word RAW is a fairly generic term for me. NEF, on the other hand is like a number which is equivalent to the same number. I.e. 2=2 NEF=NEF. My conclusion is attributable to my scientific background. I am wrong.
Buying a camera whose product must be first converted to be used by a multitude of software is unfair to me. Release of the structure of the sensor makes the software industry able to adjust the missing link. Well, this suggestion makes me think. At this moment I am not sure I accept it. I want to be able to use the camera the next day I buy it and I don't feel like waiting for an unspecified length of time before it turns out, I am faced with yet another purchase. Purchase of CS6, because it will have an update that will process my pictures.
I wish to build up enough knowledge on the features of DNG which is the best candidate at this time. I found many uncertainties about the DNG structure and content. I want to make sure it is the real image I should be seeing.
Thanks again for you reading my lines and taking time to reply.
Best,
géza

I omitted to mention I have CS5 version of Photoshop. Using a new camera Nikon D600 produces "Nikon Electronic File" (.NEF) this is my RAW file I need to process.
Uh huh...and you'll need to convert those NEF files to DNG files using the free DNG Converter in order to use them with Photoshop CS5. Either that or upgrade to Photoshop CS6. BTW, it's prolly not a great idea to post your personal information on a forum...you might want to edit that out.

  • Does Bridge 5.1 support RAW files from Nikon D600 ?

Does Bridge version  5.1 support RAW files from Nikon D600 ? latest available Camera Raw plugin 6.7 does not seem to recognize NEF fileds from D600

Yes, as long as you update your camera raw plug-in (ACR) to version 8.3 using Help / Updates… in the PSE Editor.

  • Raw Files from Nikon D600

What can't I open my raw files using Photoshop Elements 10?

To open a raw files from Nikon D600, you need Adobe Camera Raw version 7.2 or above version. See the link below. It states the cameras supported in different version of Adobe Camera raw:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
But in PSE10, I am afraid, this version is not available:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=40&platform=Windows
You can check the ACR version installed from Elements Editor.
If you are on Windows, go to Help> About Plugins > Adobe Camera Raw.
if you are on Mac, go to Photoshop Elements Editor> About Plugins > Adobe Camera raw.
    What you can do now?
Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your original files as backup).
    Windows download : http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5519
    Mac download: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5518
You can convert a whole folder of images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • RAW Camera Support

On an otherwise big news day for Aperture users, Apple has let down the Leica community once again by not including RAW camera support for the M9 rangefinder. Leica provided M9s to Apple back in September, and Apple should have had more than enough time to include RAW support for the M9 in Aperture 3. Many pro photographers and Leica owners are mac owners, and expect more of Apple. Come on Apple, please deliver the goods.

Aperture 2.0 does read M9 DNG / RAW files, but it does not support the M9 with a camera specific RAW profile. Instead, it applies the RAW profiles Apple created for Leica's M8 and M 8.2. The results are OK, but with the M9's full frame sensor, they fall far short of what would be achieved with an M9 specific RAW profile that reads the M9's internal configuration data. Apple has had M9s from Leica since September, when the M9 was introduced. The expectation of M9 and mac owners has been that by now, Apple would have developed a specific RAW profile for and supported the M9. Without such support, many M9 owners have been taking a pass on Aperture, and Aperture 1.0 and 2.0 owners will surely not upgrade to Aperture 3 without an M9 profile.

  • Photoshop CS5- raw files from Nikon D600 camera.

I need to know how to get Photoshop CS5 to read Raw files from my new Nikon D600 camera.  I do NOT want to have to buy another version of Photoshop or have to buy Lightroom.  This is really distressing me!

I think that if a camera manufacturer is convinced that their proprietary software gets a better result from their RAW data than Adobe’s ACR it is only fair that they try to get their customers to use their software.
For many users the potential difference in quality seems to be utterly irrelevant, though, and they are simply being inconvenienced.
But fortunately for the camera makers many of those users seem to blame Adobe … even though with DNG Adobe has already provided a format that they could use if they wanted to make their data more open.
If using DNG Converter really is an
    annoying extra step
for you I think the Adobe employee’s advice was basically correct and you may need to purchase the current version of Photoshop (or Lightroom).

from the menu help updates in cs5 it tells me that all soft.  is updated but it is still not working

You need to upgrade to PS CS6 in order to work with D600 raw files. Else, you can convert your raw files to DNG using DNG Converter.

  • How to work with raw files from Nikon D600 in Lightroom 3

I need to know how to process my raw files from my Nikon D 600 camera in Lightroom 3.6 and Photoshop 4?
Message title was edited by: Brett N

Support for the D600 was added in Lightroom 4.2.
Updates are no longer released for Lightroom 3. The final update, 3.6, did not support the D600, so you cannot open raw files from this camera natively.
You can use the DNG Converter to change your NEF files into open source DNG files that will open in any version of Lightroom, including 3.

  • Importing raw images from nikon d600 in lightroom 3

I cant import images into lightroom and get message raw not supported by camera in lightroom 3. what do i do?

Either upgrade to Lr 4.x, or convert your D600 files to DNG, which Lr 3 can process.

  • Raw file support for D600

I cannot open raw files for new D600 in CS5

The D600 has only been out less than a week.
None of the camera manufacturers share the details of their formats , ex NEF, CR2 etc.
Each single model has a slightly different version of their proprietary file formats. So the NEF from a D600 is different from the NEF of the D700, D4, D800 and so on. The same with Canon, Sony,  etc.
It takes time for Adobe to reverse engineer the NEF for the D600. They usually release new versions of ACR that support the newest cameras every 3-4 months.
Until then you can download the latest DNG converter and convert your NEF to DNG that can then be read by any version of ACR.
    For Mac:   http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5388
    For Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5389
But be aware that the newest version of ACR when it is released will only work with CS6
If you have CS5 or earlier, you need to continue with the DNG workaround or upgade to CS6.
You could also get Lightroom which is cheaper. But neither PS or Lightroom can directly open the D600 at this moment. Patience grasshopper!

  • Raw camera support in photoshop 10 for the panasonic fz200

when will photoshop 10 support my new panasonic fz200 for raw camera efforts??

Sorry, but it's not going to happen. You can download the free Adobe DNG converter and convert your raw files to DNG files that your version of ACR can read, but the fz200 requires ACR 7.2 and only PSE 11 can use any version of ACR 7.

  • Raw Camera Support for OS 10.3.9

    Hi There,
I have an eMac running on OS 10.3.9 (Panther) which I am unable to upgrade either with Adobe Plug-ins or Apple software fixes to support RAW camera formats.
It would be great if someone could let me know the following:
    A) If there is a quick fix that will enable me to view my RAW format software with the current set-up.
The camera and supporting software is a SONY A200.
    B) If the only way around this is to upgrade the system software to Tiger or later and if so where can I buy the upgrade. The apple site doesn't seem to package the programmes only upgrades!
    Thanks a million in advance,
    Wes29, Dublin, Ireland.

    Hello all,
I have Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger and have iPhoto '08. It supports RAW, and therfore Tiger will support RAW. Now I have read up and see you have a Sony A200? Well see if the A200 is compatible with iPhoto '08 and we can go from there. Also, iPhoto should be compatible since it works with almost all cameras ( I have yet to hear about it not workin with any cameras yet) so I'm assuming it will work. But I cannot guarantee that.
    Regards,
    Your Fellow eMac User,
    Matthew Knice

  • Lightroom 5 does not detect my camera, a Nikon D600, in tethered capture. Can someone assist?

Lightroom 5 does not detect my Nikon D600 in tethered capture. I have tried turning the camera off then on and also turned the computer off then on.  I am using windows 7.  Anyone have any ideas?

I am having the same problem with both my D610 and my D800.  Both worked fine in the past.  In both cases, I can import files from the camera via 'Import', so I know the USB connection to the computer is fine, but Neither camera is detected during tether.
