RAW conversion from Olympus OMD

When importing RAW images into Aperture 3 form Olympus OMD, the thumbnails appear properly exposed, however when I select images to apply adjustments, the images then appear markedly underexposed. Any help on this would be appreciated. (This does not happen when shooting JPEGS)> Thanks.

  • Poor raw conversion from Fujifilm X100 .raf format in Lightroom 3 and 4

I'm seeing very poor results when doing raw conversion from Fujifilm X100 .raf format. Who can I contact about this? Is there anything I can do?
See below for what is supposed to be a white curtain, lit by stage lighting. It results in a blown out blue channel, serious loss of detail, and very ugly gradient.
(Lightroom 4.2, Camera Raw 7.2 on LEFT  --- Fujifilm X100 in-camera jpg on RIGHT)
    And for more detail:
(Lightroom 4.2, Camera Raw 7.2 on TOP  --- Fujifilm X100 in-camera jpg on BOTTOM)
(Lightroom 4.2, Camera Raw 7.2 on LEFT --- Fujifilm X100 in-camera jpg on RIGHT)

The blue light is so intense that it is, or almost is, saturating the sensor.
The camera’s built-in raw conversion handles this by shifting the color to cyan—clipping the blue and allowing the green to contribute more.  I doubt there was cyan lighting in the scene, only blue.
Adobe does not shift the hue, but this makes the blue seem over saturated.  Adobe’s conversion may be more colorimetrically correct, but less pleasing in this case of intense lighting that the sensor cannot accurately record.
It is a difference in camera profile used between the camera and Adobe.  Since Adobe does not supply camera-match profiles for much more than Nikon and Canon cameras, you’re not going to be able to fix things other than managing the over-saturation using HSL or WB or other things like lower-vibrance, higher saturation.
You could try making your own camera profile using an X-Rite Color-Checker Passport or the color-checker and the Adobe DNG Profile Editor:

  • Reading RAW files from OLYMPUS

Can Photoshop Elements read RAW files from Olympus OM-D E-M10 or if not can the files be converted to a compatible format?

Photoshop elements 12 can't read those files as of yet, but should be able to when camera raw 8.4 is released.
It won't be too long because 8.4 is in the release candidate stage, which probably means within the next month or so, it should be released as final.
Did your olympus camera come with any software that can open those files?

    DNG Converter.
    Read all about it here
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html
It's a way of opening the Raw files from your OM-D EM-1 without having to upgrade to LR5.
In short, you open the Raw files from the camera uing the DNG converter, convert the Raw files to DNGs. Then you edit the DNG files in LR4.4.

  • Raw support for Olympus OMD E-M10, When ?

I purchased a Olympus OMD E-M10 camera few weeks ago. Bad surprise when I loaded my shoots in Aperture ... Raw files not supoorted !
After the 5.05 update for raw compatibilty ... again a bad surprise ! The Olympus OMD E-M10 is not in the list of supported cameras :-(
When my E-M10 will be supported by Aperture ??????

This is always true when a new camera is introduced.
    I own the OM-D10.
My work around is to shoot in Raw + JpegSF. Import both into Aperture and set Jpeg as master.
If I need to use the Raw, I go to Olympus View 3. So far the Jpeg's have been perfect for my use. Please note that you have to go to a sub-menu to activae JpegSF.
Another website compared using Adobe's Raw converter to Olympus View 3 converter for OM-D1 files. The Olympus conversion was far superior.
So I do want Aperture Raw support. However, I am not sure how much I will use it.

  • RAW support for Olympus OMD EM5

Outfitting for a year long back pack trip. My MacBook Pro is going. Am in processof purchasing an Olympus OMD EM5 micro 4/3 camera for the trip. I use Aperture for photo processing. Any idea when or if  Aperture will add support for developing the RAW shots from the EM5?
    thnx

The usual interim approach for raw support has been to use Adobe's DNG converter to create DNGs that Aperture could read. This has always worked with the esception of non-Bayer sensors like the Foveon in Sigma cameras. But I can't get Aperure to read DNGs created from my E-M5's ORFs using DNG Converter v6.7 and have no idea where the problem lies.
It's taken Apple months to support Olympus cameras in the past, so I'm not optimistic.

  • Snow leopard and orf file from Olympus OMD EM1

Hello, is there any chance to see the preview of these orf file without upgrading to 10.8.5 or later?
I have Aperture 3.2.4 with Digital Camera Raw 3.13.0 and it works fine with the Olympus E 620 orf files.
I can see the preview of these orf also from desktop. without opening Aperture.
Upgrading to Olympus OMD EM1, the new orf files aren't read anymore...it seems that  I need Digital camera Raw 5.03 to see them, but the dmg can't be opened with 10.6.8....
I don't want to upgrade , because I like very much Snow leopard, but it is frustrating not to see the preview of the Olympus EM1 orf files...every time I have to open them with Olympus Raw Converter ( Olympus Viewer 3), that is very slow....
    Any suggestion?
    Thank You for the attention
    Bye
    Susanna

Hy Brody, thank You for your kind reply
I think that I won't be able to fix this because I've read somewhere that Preview share the same raw converter of Aperture and IPhoto, but I run Aperture 3.2.4 ( Aperture 3.5 is required for EM1 and doesn't support my SL !!) and a very old Iphoto ( I don't use it since a long time ago), that I can upgrade only to 9.2.3.
Now I must find if Iphoto 9.2.3 can open these raw from EM1, so probably also Preview could...but I'm not hopefully.
    Thank U very much again!!

  • "unsupported image file" when importing RAW images from Olympus E-PL1

When I try to import images save in RAW format on the camera, the images import but they can't be displayed (all I get is a warning triangle with the words "unsupported image format" below it, though in the import preview the images are displayed properly.
EDIT: just noticed that the E-PL1 isn't listed as being supported, just the E-P1 & 2
    Message was edited by: drathquark

Apple have just included RAW support for the Olympus E-PL1 with the Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.3 - iPhoto can now import RAW files from the E-PL1.

  • Aperture 3 Raw conversion from Nikon D700 - Bad results - Anyone?

I recently upgraded to a Nikon D700 and have noticed I am getting some really bad conversion results from my raw files which involve my having to do a lot of work to get decent images. Most images are too dark and with strong orange cast... Any ideas? I thought it might be the camera, so I tried another computer with photoshop raw converter and images are fine. I have noticed the original import settings are strange on Aperture but cannot seem to change them, they always revert back to maximum hue boost and max boost ect... Any help would be great! thanx!

I have a Nikon D700 and have just tried the Aperture demo- same results as you guys, disappointing RAW conversion. Contrast and sharpness quite poor and blues are 'off'
I currently use Capture NX and was looking for something a little less 'clunky'. Though it may not be as slick as Aperture, its RAW conversion is spot on (as you would expect from a Nikon sponsored app)
It's easy to compare the differences- open an unedited RAW file in Capture NX and save as an uncompressed, 16 bit TIFF. Import this and the original RAW file into Aperture. Prepare for disappointment :-/

  • RAW files from Olympus C-5060WZ are not supported

I've found out that although iPhoto supports RAW files from C-7070WZ, it does not support C-5060WZ. And that's a big issue for me, because I have a lot of ORF pictures from this camera. Is there some workaround for this? Or maybe I can hope that support for my camera will be added in the future?

    Drolevar:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you can find an application that can convert those photos to a DNG file format iPhoto will be able to handle them. Adobe has a free DNG converter available here: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0609/06091901adobecameraraw35.asp. The following page will list the supported cameras: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html. If you don't see your camera try it any way. But be sure to use it on a copy of the file as it converts the original if you're not careful in setting up the options.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • RAW photos from Olympus Camera

I tried to import RAW images into iPhoto '08 from my Olympus SP-550UZ. iPhoto won't recognize or import the images. Any suggestions?

That camera's file format is not supported by Leopard, http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306835. Your alternative would be to convert them to the dng format and import the converted files. There are 3rd party converters that can do the job. Adobe DNG Converter & Camera Raw 4.3.1 supports some Olympus cameras and might work with yours.
Also a Google search for "dng convert" may turn up other applications.

  • RAW conversion from within iPhoto '08

Am I missing something, I am trying to make iPhoto '08 a part of my RAW image workflow. However I am not seeing how to convert the RAW (NEF Nikkon) to a jpeg format to push to the web. I have looked at the help function of iPhoto and the only thing mentioned is "iPhoto simplifies the RAW workflow by combining RAW editing and JPEG conversion into one step." What is this step?

My '08 is on order, so I may be wasting your time. Howeve, in iPhoto 6.0.6, what you want to accomplish is done by going to "File - Export". You will then see a screen that gives you the options to export as original, jpeg, tiff, or png, or to send to web page, iphoto2gmail (if you have the plug-in), palm export, or quicktime. You also can of course choose the location - desktop, web page, or whatver. I use RAW with my Nikon D200, and my workflow, for photos that I REALLY like, is:
    1. iPhoto
    2. Export (or drag) RAWS to a desktop foler (PHOTO 1)
    3. Process with Nikon Capture (general area RAW processing)
    4. "save as" either tiffs or jpegs (depending upon quality desired) into a second desktop folder (PHOTO 2).
    5. import back into iPhoto (as jpeg or tiff)
    6. Edit in external editor (Photoshop Elements) from iPhoto (healing brush for runny noses of grandkids, etc)
    7. Save back to iPhoto
    8. If desired, delete RAW from iPhoto to free up space, unless you think you will process it again.
I am really hoping that that the '08 edition does not radically change this. It has taken some effort, and a Nikon Shool course, to figure it out .

  • IPhoto and RAW files from Olympus camera

I have an Olympus SP-500UZ and i have been using it without any problem, but today i took some pictures in RAW format to see the difference but i was unable to open them either using iPhoto or Preview. I can see the thumbnail of each image in Finder and i have opened the files using Olympus Master (it came with the camera) but i haven't been able to see them with iPhoto or get them in my Library. Any sugestions/help?

  • Iphoto can't read RAW files from Olympus E-PL1

I just got an Olympus E-PL1. Iphoto doesn't recognize the RAW file with the extenstion .ORF
The E-PL1 has the same sensor as the P1 and P2. I would assume that both those generate the same RAW data.

Until the camera is supported try converting the files to .dmg file with the Adobe DNG Converter 6.1 which iPhoto supports. Many pros use the dmg format.
