Raw converted to unix files

I batch renamed a folder of raw files in photoshop cs and it converted them all to unix files, any hope of reading them or converting them to jpg or tiff? help!

Erik, I forgot about CS file browser but I seem to remember that it is something similar to the Bridge option, only with less options.
I can not imagine that renaming is destructible for RAW. You have to be sure that there is only one extension in the name (the last four characters should be .CR2 and there should only be one dot in the name and that is the one before the extension.
I tried to reproduce it by removing the extension from a RAW file. There is no such thing as a unix file on my machine (PowerMac with OSX 10.4.11 and CS3) after using the info but I was not able to open the file.
However after adding the .CR2 at the end did bring everything back to normal and I was able to open it again.
Just copy a few of the files and batch rename them again and this time be sure to add the extension.
An other thing that can't be told to much is BACK UP. Ideal it would be to copy the files from the CF card to the Mac, Check if the files are right and immediately make 1 copy of it to an other drive before altering anything. I know that it is hindsight for you at this moment but it can safe you in the future.
If you plan to upgrade go straight to CS3 and Bridge. Then use the Photodownloader that has the option to make a back up copy during import of the files.

  • RAW converter dpi

Our Olympus E-500 writes images in RAW files (.orf) at 314 dpi. The Olympus software opens the .orf files at 314 dpi but Photoshop Elements RAW converter opens the files at 240 dpi.
How do we open the RAW .orf files at it's native 314 dpi??
We have the current version of the RAW converter.
    PSE 5.02
    Win XP
    thank you

There is no "native" resolution. The pixel count is what matters. The DPI setting just tells the software how to print it and is, otherwise, and arbitrary number.
I'm not sure that you can set this number in Camera Raw when hosted by Photoshop Elements. The interface is slightly different and I only see 8/16-bit depth as an option. 240 dpi might be the default (and only) option in Elements.
However, you can change it at any time in Photoshop by going to Image>resize>Image Size and unchecking the "resample image" box and typing in a new number.

  • Fonts changed to Unix files when saved to a remote server

Hi all, I read an archived thread regarding this, but not sure if my situation is related somehow. The issues others have had was that their font files were converted to Unix files at 0KB, when stuffed.
My issue is I backed up fonts (PS and TT) from my Mac to a remote server (PC based). When that server is accessed by Mac users, some saw the file as a Unix file at 0KB. However, there were some (including myself) that saw the actual font file.
That was a few months ago, we've retired that server since, but before doing so I transferred all the fonts to a new server. It's now a raid drive run off a Mac Xserve. After the transfer, I checked to see if the fonts were still okay, and they were showing full Mac file (no Unix). I didn't go into the new server for a couple of months, but when I did I noticed that all the fonts had been changed to Unix files. Some were at 8KB, others at 60KB. But no 0KB files. +Note: because the initial transfers was a success, the original files from the old server were deleted along with it. So there is no way of retrieving the original files. As well, were were running 10.4.10 with the original server and files. Switched to 10.5.x when files were transferred to the new server.+
I've tried the tips here (using the Terminal method and the FileUtilsCM script) http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6041364 but to no avail. I'd hate to think these fonts are scrap. As they were all purchased (and there's a whole load of them). Any input in saving these files would be of great help.
    Thanks in advance.

The real font information is stored in a resource fork, not the data fork fo the file.  Depending type type of file system you copied them to, how you copied them, and what method you are using to look at them, you may not be seeing the resource fork.
You can see more detail about files usng a Terminal command such as
    ls -leaO@ file
If there is a resource fork, it will be displayed.
If the file system was not a Mac OS X external file system, then you might want to look for a file with a similar name only starting with a leading period to make it invisible to the Finder
    ls -leaO@ /the/directory/with/your/fonts

  • Use external raw converter

I have a camera whose RAW files cannot be processed by Aperture (ie by MAC OS). Can I specify Lightroom as an external editor and use it just as the raw converter for these files, but use Aerture for everything else (such as cropping, sharpening, printing, etc)?p

Re Caggiano's advice: I converted these RAW files to DNG but upon import to Aperture, they were labeled as Unsupported File Format, and I was unable to use an external editor on them.  I have rised this issue before:  that Aperture rejects the DNG files converted from Raw by the Adobe DNG Converter and Adobe Lightroom, even though they have been examined and shown NOT to be linear DNG files.  So for some reason or bug, MAC OS not only rejects the raw files from my Fujifilm S100fs (which has a conventional Bayer array sensor) but also rejects the DNG files from those raw files.
Re Krieger's advice: I will have to convert my S100fs raw files to Tiffs in some other software and use the Tiffs in Aperture.  At the moment, I am tempted to abandon Aperture altogether until my files are supported,  and give up having my images all in one library. Lightroom, DXO, and Silkypix all will process these raw files.

Is it wise to keep the Nikon camera files "DSC's"  after downloading them and converting to DNG files via Adobe converter for lightroom use. In other words do the DNG files have all the raw data I would ever need in processing or should I save the camera's DSC files?

DNG files do not contain some metadata supplied by the camera, which can be used by the manufacturer's software. Thus, if you don't keep the original Raw photo, you will lose this information.
If your 1000% sure you're never going to use the manufacturer's software, then this isn't a problem. But who can be sure what software you will be using 10 years from now?

  • I can't open Sony NEX-5 raw files with PS-CS6 and latest raw converter plug-in 7.1.

When I try to open raw files from Sony NEX-5 instead of going to PhotoShop like all my NEF files, they go to another software suite that I have (On-One).  I am running MAC OS 10.7.5 with latest PS-CS6 and latest raw converter plug-in 7.1.  On-One seems to hi-jack these Sony raw files and won't give me the opportunity for the adjustments that I get with the Adobe Raw File converter.  Any help??

You need Adobe camera raw version 8.7. Unfortunately your software pre-dates the camera. ACR 8.7 is only compatible with PSE13. But it is possible to download and install the free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.7
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.7
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

Although I dislike MPEG-1 because of the large file size those .mpg files are commonly used on the Web. They can be played by nearly any computer and are not "Player" dependent like WMP or QuickTime so each user can decide how to view them.
As a bonus they are a "playback" format which makes editing and repurposing them a bit more difficult so your media is a bit more "secure".
I'll stick to QuickTime formats (avoiding H.264 video codec) and force QuickTime down their WiMPy throats. Millions of PC's have QuickTime installed (because of iTunes) and others can easily download the free Player and browser plug-in. By avoiding H.264 my files can be viewed on Mac's and PC's that can't install QuickTime 7.

  • Has Lightroom been updated with a good RAW Converter that will work with Fujifilm X-T1 RAW files?

    Hello,
I just purchased a Fujifilm X-T1.  The camera produces excellent jpeg files.  However, I prefer processing my work in RAW.  Unfortunately, I'm having trouble deciding to upgrade with Adobe if their RAW converter is not up to par with Fuji.
Fujifilm renders images on their sensors differently than conventional Bayer sensors like Canon, Nikon, Olympus etc.  Fuji uses an X-tran sensor with pixels arranged in a different pattern.
This has presents a new challenge because now one has to buy a third party in order to process Fuji RAW files and this disrupts the workflow between Lightroom and Photoshop.
I really love using Adobe and hope they will come up with a fix for this.

  • How to open non-RAW file in RAW Converter

I'm unable to open a non-RAW (i.e. jpg) file in the RAW Converter in either Organizer or Editor, using instructions in Brundage book.
    Would appreciate a suggested procedure.

    Barbara B.
Your suggestion to try another file resolved the Converter  issue.  I found that I can open any jpg or tif file in any album that appears in the
Windows Explorer.  So the problem was not with the RAW Converter.  Instead, I found another problem.  The ENTIRE Album
containing the file I had been trying to open  is missing from the Windows Explorer (and I cannot open the file from the Album
showing in the Organizer --  while I'm in the Editor!).
So -- can you give me any help with this new problem of an Album that shows in the Organizer but not the Windows Explorer?

  • Would like to purchase PSE 12 to process Camera Raw files for the following cameras: Nikon D800, Nikon DF, Canon G9 and Pentax K-3 does the Raw Converter that comes with  PSE 12 when purchased recognize  the cameras listed in the question or do I need to

Would like to purchase PSE 12 to process Camera Raw files for the following cameras: Nikon D800, Nikon DF, Canon G9 and Pentax K-3 does the Raw Converter that comes with  PSE 12 when purchased recognize  the cameras listed in the question or do I need to download  the camera Raw Version 8.3 ?

While the G9 RAW files can be read by Adobe Camera RAW and Lightroom, these file are unsupported at this time. Here is a link to Adobe's latest list of cameras that are supported and this list came out yesterday http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
I have not done a comparison between Lightroom and Canon's software but others have and say that Canon's software is clearly better. I am sure when Adobe updates their software again to include the G9 it will be a very good RAW converter as it is will most other cameras.

  • Will elements 13 raw converter work with Canon 7D MK2 raw files

My friend is about to purchase the new Canon 7D Mk2 DSLR camera. He currently only takes images in jpg format and edits images with the Canon software provided with his current Canon camera. I have encouraged him to purchase Elements 13 and to start taking images in raw and using the raw converter. Will the raw converter in elements 13 be compatible with the raw files of the new Canon 7D MK2, please?
The Canon 7D MK2 is a new model and I realise that Adobe may not yet have prepared a raw converter to work with images from this camera. However it may be that the raw converter for the new camera is the same as that used in  camera it replaces. Does anyone know please?
    Regards Dave S.

The 7d mkii is not yet supported but should be in the next camera raw update. It’s not yet featured on the ACR8.7 list of new cameras, but this is only release candidate software. The 7d mkii could easily feature in the final version. Keep an eye on Adobe Labs for further updates.

  • Converting a WAV file to a Raw Audio File

Is there an easy way to convert a WAV file to a raw audio file? Maybe some way to just strip the file header?
Would if work if I just loaded a WAV file into an AudioInputStream and read all the bytes out and dumped them directly back onto disk via a DataOutputStream? Even if so, there must be a quicker solution, right?
    Thanks!

And I'm not entirely sure what you mean by a "quicker solution". That's literally about 10 lines of code...
JavaSound wasn't really meant to do audio processing, it was designed to give you access to sound data so you can do audio processing if you want it. It's not particularly useful, but it is extremly powerful...
