RAW converter dpi

Our Olympus E-500 writes images in RAW files (.orf) at 314 dpi. The Olympus software opens the .orf files at 314 dpi but Photoshop Elements RAW converter opens the files at 240 dpi.
How do we open the RAW .orf files at it's native 314 dpi??
We have the current version of the RAW converter.
PSE 5.02
Win XP
thank you

There is no "native" resolution. The pixel count is what matters. The DPI setting just tells the software how to print it and is, otherwise, and arbitrary number.
I'm not sure that you can set this number in Camera Raw when hosted by Photoshop Elements. The interface is slightly different and I only see 8/16-bit depth as an option. 240 dpi might be the default (and only) option in Elements.
However, you can change it at any time in Photoshop by going to Image>resize>Image Size and unchecking the "resample image" box and typing in a new number.

I've just installed CS6 creative suite mainly for photoshop CS6. It comes with camera raw 7.0.something, but need something newer to use my canon 6d. When I download camera raw 8.5 and install the raw converter doesnt work anymore, wont even open or isnt available anymore in the plugin list. Tried to reinstall everything for a few times, but nothing helps.

When I search for updates the raw converter doesnt get update automaticly. Frustrating, is costing me the whole morning.

  • Raw converter stopped working and is missing -- running CC and Windows Vista SP 2.

I have reinstalled Photoshop twice from the cloud.  RAW converter still missing.  Please help.
If I try to install the 7.1 Converter download, I get a failed message saying this update is not for me.  The 8.3 DNG converter installed, but the problem persists.

ACR 8.3 is what you want, that is the current version for Photoshop CC. You can check the installed ACR version in Help > About Plug-In > Camera Raw (or open the CC desktop app and see if it reports Photoshop as up to date).
You don't have any need for the DNG converter, since you have Photoshop CC and thus the very latest ACR version with all the newest camera support.
(The DNG converter is a standalone application, completely independent from Photoshop. It converts native camera files to the universal DNG format, so that they can be read by older ACR versions that don't have direct native support for that camera).
If ACR 8.3 is indeed installed, but not working as it should, or even missing, that's a different problem.

  • Disappointed in the quality of the 1.1 raw converter at high isos

I've been using Lightroom since the first Windows beta, and the very first thing that jumped out at me was the wonderful way it handled digital noise at high isos. It seemed to convert it to a unique kind of grain -- I thought of it as digital grain.
I started shooting at ISO 1600 intentionally just to get that look. ISO 1600, jam the color noise reduction up to 100 percent, and leave the luminance slider at 0. Ah, heaven!
I upgraded to 1.1, and since I've been doing some high-key work at lower isos recently, I didn't notice a change. Then, a few weeks ago I was editing some old stuff, and I zoomed in, and thought "That's odd. It looks like there is some luminance smoothing going on." I checked the luminance slider, and it was still at 0.
I was absolutely positive I found a bug, so I googled, and that lead me here, where I read numerous threads on the subject. OK, I get it, the new de-mosiacing algorithms can reduce the level of noise for a certain level of perceived detail. I've checked it out, and in some of my images I can see what that means. I'd have to say I like the new look in 3 out of the 250 or so ISO 1600 images I've looked at so far. I tried just living with it -- maybe I was being too afraid of change, and maybe I would get used to it over time. Sadly, that wasn't the case.
The fact is, even if the overall level of noise has gone down since v. 1.0, the
type of noise changed, and it's something that I can clearly see in my larger prints. Do I see it in my smaller prints? Not really. But every time I zoom in to 100 percent on an image, I grate my teeth, and become just a little bit more resentful.
For me the whole point of Lightroom is that I'm able to process my images, come back in six months, and have them be exactly the same as they were before. If my older images start shifting around and changing themselves behind my back every time I upgrade, what's the point?
I butt my head against this every time I process stuff at high isos, and I get extremely frustrated when working with some of the 1.5k+ shots I intentionally shot at 1600 just to get the wonderful luminance noise look.
So I'm going to plead with the development team here:
please give me my old noise profile back! Don't make me downgrade my entire library to 1.0 and live with version 1.0 on Windows forever. Give me some hope!

I knew about this issue with the version 1.1 but, sincerely, I was quite happy with the new improved sharpen and noise reduction tools, and also with the clarity tools and all the improvements... until now.
I just have printed a more or less big print (20x25cm), I looked at the print and... "what's that?". My print seems a paint. It just seems this kind of pics you get after applying some "oil paint" filter in your favorite image editing software. HORRIBLE. I don't know if the print interpolation (I just added some resolution in the print module) also accentuated this effect.
Definitively I don't like this "look". It's too different from any other raw converter. It doesn't seems a photograph, digital or not. Version 1.0 had some issues, maybe it was too noisy and the sharpening wasn't good but you could use your favorite noise reduction sw or your editing sw and improve noise/sharpen. What can I do with this "paint"?.

  • I can't open Sony NEX-5 raw files with PS-CS6 and latest raw converter plug-in 7.1.

When I try to open raw files from Sony NEX-5 instead of going to PhotoShop like all my NEF files, they go to another software suite that I have (On-One).  I am running MAC OS 10.7.5 with latest PS-CS6 and latest raw converter plug-in 7.1.  On-One seems to hi-jack these Sony raw files and won't give me the opportunity for the adjustments that I get with the Adobe Raw File converter.  Any help??

    Great news!

You need Adobe camera raw version 8.7. Unfortunately your software pre-dates the camera. ACR 8.7 is only compatible with PSE13. But it is possible to download and install the free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.7
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.7
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • RAW converter, PSE 9 and Windows 8

I've just upgraded from Windows 7 to 8 and now find that when I try and open Canon CR2 files in the PSE 9 RAW converter, I get a message saying PSE can't open the file because it is "the wrong type of file".  TIF and Jpeg files open without any problem, so it seems to be just the RAW converter that is the problem.
Also, when I download pictures from my camera into the Organiser, I am no longer given the option to select only certain images to be downloaded and given a particular folder.  The only route that seems to be available is to download everything on the camera card.
Anybody got any ideas how to solve these two problems?  All suggestions gratefully received.
    Julian

Launch Full Edit and go to the menu:
    Help >> About Plug-in >> Camera Raw
    Check the installed version.
The last update for PSE9 was version 6.5

  • Photo 6 RAW photos don't all open in PSE 6 RAW converter

I have iphoto 6 and PSE 6 installed on an Intel iMac OS X 10.4.11 with: 2GB RAM, 250GB HD and over half of that free.
Recently have begun shooting RAW. From iPhoto I have been editing everything in PSE6 without a problem. To open the RAW photos in the "RAW Converter" I have gone to iPhoto preferences, clicked on Advanced tab, and checked the box "Use RAW file with external editor".
My problem is this: Most of the RAW(NEF) photos in iphoto will open in the RAW converter as they are designed to do when I double click on the thumb nails in iPhoto. However, about 25% of them will not go to the converter. They go, instead, to the regular PSE6 editing window as a JPEG, and nothing I can do will get that photo into the RAW converter. And these are photos from the same series just uploaded to iPhoto6. It makes no sense to me.
What am I missing and what can I do to correct this problem. I would appreciate any help anyone can give. Thanks.
    David

    TD
I'm feeling just a little sheepish right now.
It was your statement that it was either a) I'm imagining it or b) it's a very rare problem. I knew it wasn't (a) and I suspected (b) was probably not it either because too often when something is very rare, there is something simple hidden in the problem.
So I did some serious reviewing of the problem. I tried to think of anything I had done to those 3 photos that kept them from opening in RAW converter, when all others did fine. It suddenly occurred to me that I had cropped those three, and would have done it in iPhoto before going to RAW converter. I "Reverted to Original" all three photos, after which I was able to open all of them in RAW Converter without a problem.
So, MANY thanks, TD, for leading me to the solution. And you also taught me some new techniques. Every little bit helps.

  • Cs5 bridge has option..open in raw converter...greyed out

i just purchased and installed cs5, love the updates i have seen yet.....but cs5 bridge has stopped opening raw files, it actually never did open the first one..the option to open in camera raw is greyed out...i can use photoshop to open raws, one at a time...tried updating to raw converter 5.7,. cs5 still works, bridge does not...any thoughts?
    Malcolm

    ACR 5.7 is for CS4.
For CS5 you need Camera Raw 6.1.
You have to have the ACR in the correct folder and only one file there.

Thanks John. I have tried solutions 1 to 3 from (-http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/aam-lists-removed-apps-date.h tml) and they do not work. So I presume that all I can do is to remove all 25 CC applications and start again!
Incidently, ( http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/ ) does not list Adobe Camera Raw 8.4 as an update even though Adobe have announced that it is available (http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2014/04/camera-raw-8-4-and-dng-converter-8-4-now-a vailable.html). The same applies for Adobe Premiere Pro 7.2.2 (http://blogs.adobe.com/premierepro/2014/04/premiere-pro-cc-7-2-2.html). If they are not available this would explain why I cannot download them but I am very suprised that Adobe didn't mention this when I contacted them.
    Anyway thanks again

  • Arri raw converter ( alexa )

I may be able to get some sxs card alexa footage (just junk we shoot real fast when they call lunch break ) from work onto my graid external via friends at work.
they are shooting log c for this job but I guess we can make it arri raw instead.
question... does the arri raw viewer "see" the log c if thats what I get ?  Or does it have to be raw ?
also...I have pc and I'm sure the stuff on camera truck for transfer is going to be mac... and my graid is now formatted ntfs pc...
I dont think mac can write to that...so if they format to mac and I buy macdrive that will work OK, right ?? I mean, they will be able to see the drive and format it to mac right ??
thing is, as favor to me at work I dont wanna make anything weird or difficult for them...time consuming etc.
and finally...apparently I can use arri raw converter to convert to quicktime stuff or dpx or ( if its raw ) to log c....any suggestions re: best quality downsizing would be appreciated ( as I have mousey computer and cs3 ).
    thanks
( am ready for the laughter and jibes now )

what are you getting masters in ?
hmm, thanks for info re: track. Never used that. And only used panther a few times so that is sorta understandable I guess...
We use mostly film air alum track now. Used to use the steel mathews track mostly...till the filmair stuff got invented.
Sometimes use track wheels on fisher dollies...sometimes ( probaby most times ) use skateboard wheels. And dance floor or shelving ( 1x12 x 16 or cut to size clear pine ). Using 3/4 birch ply and plastic sheets mostly for dance floor. Is nice and smooth.
Gotta make sure plastic is same "run" though...out of the die at factory...or they are slightly off in thickness.
Rip dance floor stuff down to exactly 4x8, 4x4, triangles, 2x8 and 1x8...usually is good for all spaces.
yeah, doorways tricky especially on slight angle through instead of perpendicular to threshold...thats cool the panter track comes in narrow width. We usually "rack" the track a little if necessary and leave 2 adjacent wheels unlocked on peewee or chapman hybrid ( 2 legs float ).
So many cool things to yap about re: dolly... you would think, " what could be so tricky about this ??" ... but it does get a bit tricky sometimes.
I find about 1/3 or 1/4 of operators really good to work with -- usually the ones that didnt "grow up" doing steadicam and hand held are the better ones ( with wheeled heads ).  If an operator can't use the wheels I usually think, " oh oh...this could be trouble..."  But I heard you use mostly fluid heads over there in your neck of woods...in which case the wheel thing doesnt hold true for your operators... as they'd have to be real good with fluid head in general.
Nothing makes a boom looks dumber than changing air space above talent heads etc from less than lovely operating
same with back panning etc.. when I get an operator who knows what teamwork means..I am happy as a clam !  If he says, " leave the wheels unlocked so I can adjust with my feet " I am looking at a long day probably ( time will drag ).
I agree that doing editing ( even the little that I've done now in past year at home has helped me ) really solidifies some things re: shooting and pace and timing etc..as you mentioned....also it makes it more fun, believe it or not...as its easier to see the edit from the coverage and vica versa..( see what coverage you need when shots are blocked )...  way more fun than just sitting there waiting for someone to say " put the lens here ".
I went to pratt for fine art photography and thought I knew a lot about lighting and camera when I started gripping...but there are guys here ( 4-5th generation ) who are soooo good its amazing.  Know the framelines, cc, stops, depth of field, how to shape the light well ( diffusion, cuts, teasers etc ).. just really amazing ..some of the grips ...
You guys in general have very good reputations as talented crews here in USA..

  • Integrating Canon Raw Converter with Aperture (for G9)

This is a follow up question to an email I posted last night on Apertures incompatibility with Canon G9 Raw Format.
DOes anyone or has anyone tried to integrate the Canon Raw Converter that came with the G9 in with Aperture? I thought of it this morning. My thought is to identify the Canon Raw converter as the external editor. Changes can be made in Canon RAW then saved. There would be the additional picture created in Aperture that I can modify. Granted the saved format would need to be a jpeg or tiff file format.
Any thoughts? Has anyone tried this?
Also, what is a high quality format the file can be saved once changes are made in Canon RAW?
    Thanks

Using 'Open in External Editor' in Aperture tells Aperture to convert the RAW file to either a TIFF or PSD and send that to the external editor, not the RAW file. So if a camera is unsupported by Aperture you can't use the command...

  • Raw converter Nikon D7000 6.3 rc1 needs additional work

    IHi,
I just compared Nikon's nx view with the newest 6.3rc1 raw converter.
Why? Because I suddenly saw some form of jaggies (ragged borders along a 30-65degree diagonal line) around some green grass, foliage in LR3.3rc1. With the Nikon software this is not visible. Also the noise is much better controlled with NXview than with Adobe raw converter. I think that the camera raw software needs more tweaking before final release.
If Adobe wants, I can email the raw file to someone. Just ask for it with e.g. a private message.
    Best regards,
    Nick
