RAW-failure with Lumix G5

Photoshop 5.1-64 bits will not open the raw-files from camera Lumix G5. What do I need to do?

You need ACR 7.2, meaning CS6. Refer to this:

  • Can't open raw with lumix gx1 elements 9

    Hi Group,
    Windows 7, Elements 9   Panasonic lumix gx1
I tried acr 6.5 but it won't open the lumix raw files.  One site I found said that this camera needs 6.6 but that update failed.  I don't won't to update to elements 10 as I see no reason to do this.  Does anyone know what or if it's possible to get these files to open in Elements 9?
    Thanks,
    Michael

I finally downloaded the coverter.  I refuse to buy Elements 10 when there is nothing new that I need.  Maybe 11 when I see what it does but I doubt it.  The coverter works just fine. Michael

Actually, the problem is that Adobe seems to be wanting to force their users into purchasing otherwise unnecessary upgrades.  I, too, use Elements 9, and it does everything I need...except read the RAW files from my new GX-1. Yes, I can download the DNG converter (and I have), but that adds an extra, and unnecessary, step to processing.  Adobe's reputation for not respecting their customers isn't unwarranted.

  • HT4757 Is there ever going to be RAW compatibility with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 added to Aperture 3?

Is there ever going to be RAW compatibility with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 added to Aperture 3?
It's a good camera which I think has been overlooked in this area?
    Any advice you good people?

    Hello,
I don't know when but you can send a message to Apple so they can add that in a next update (not 100% sure but you can try).
Go here : http://www.apple.com/feedback/aperture.html and in the Feedback Type select : Harware compatibility.

  • CS4 raw support for Lumix LX5 RW2 files

It appears that the new Camera Raw Adapter 6.2 that supports the new Lumix LX5 raw files is not compatible with Photoshop CS4.  Does this mean I will never be able to process LX5 raw files with CS4?

Adobe provides backwards compatibility in CS2, CS3 and CS4 for new cameras through the FREE DNG Converter:
    Win: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4803
    Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4802
There are other benefits to using DNG besides backward compatibility if you haven’t explored those:
The metadata, keywords and RAW adjustments are stored in the file – along with a processed preview of the image. This makes the file portable and keeps your metadata safe and secure.
DNG files are smaller than the original RAW file which will save you disk space and time in the long run.
DNG is an openly specified file format which means the file format isn’t going away. So if you use another RAW processor that supports DNG, you don’t have to worry about compatibility or portability of your metadata.

  • HP LaserJet M1212nf MFP Printer - Communication Failure with the scanner

    Dear all,
May I kindly ask if there are any known resolutions in terms of a scanning issue with the HP LaserJet M1212nf MFP Printer?
When it starts scanning the printer only scans the up to the 3rd or 4th page, it stops in the middle of the sheet and produces an error message stating the following: Communication Failure with the scanner.
Are there any steps that may be followed in order to resolve the incident?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Ryan

    Hi @Ryan_HP ,
I see that you are experiencing a communication error during scanning of multiple pages. I would like to help, but I will need some more information to provide you with the correct steps to resolve this issue.
If you are using Windows, download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
Temporarily turn off any Antivirus Software, just to rule out any interference.
    Try scanning again.
What operating system are you using?
How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet)
What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)
What scanning software are you using?
    Have a wonderful day!

  • PlayReady failure with specific OS version of Windows 8.1 Update

    Hello,
I'm observing a failure in my app during Smooth Streaming video playback using PlayReady DRM. The app is a WinJS Universal App solution for Windows Store and Windows Phone, using the latest updates for Visual Studio 2013, Update 4.
So far, the failure is limited to one specific version of the Windows 8.1 Update. I have two identical devices, both retail versions of the phone, that demonstrate this issue. Note, these same phones that fail with PlayReady can successfully
    stream unprotected Smooth Streaming content.
My other five Windows Phone devices, with different OS version numbers, do not demonstrate the failure with the identical app installed. Therefore, I suspect the OS version may be the cause.
    Failure description:
When I attempt to stream PlayReady protected Smooth Streaming video, the player initializes the media player and the MediaProtectionManager, but then displays the error state (The video failed to play. Try again.) immediately, and the following message is

    Hello,
0x887A0004 equates to DXGI_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED. This error is usually generated when you are trying to use Direct3D features that are not supported. Different devices support different D3D features since they contain different video hardware. It is possible
that a hardware feature that is required by the license is not supported in the hardware / driver of the device. I would recommend that you check the license and make sure that it does not contain any hardware specific requirements such as HDCP.
In other words try playing content with the least restrictive license and see if it works for you.
    I hope this helps,
    James

Close and restart Photoshop if you have not already done so.
In Photoshop, go to the Help - About Plug-in... menu then choose Camera Raw.  What version does it say there?

  • Issues opening RAW files with CS2...

I find if a bit complicated to open RAW files with Photoshop CS2 in iPhoto 08 (I'm using OS X 10.5). Currently the only way I've been able to do this is do a search for the file name in the finder, at the bottom of the Finder window, in the path, double click on the folder that the RAW files are in (user/my name/pictures/iphoto library/originals/2007/RAW files), then highlight the NEF files (the cameras a Nikon D200) I want to open, hit command/O then Photoshop CS2 opens the files in the RAW converter. If I try this from CS2 (command/O) the path goes as for as iphoto library (user/my name/pictures/iphoto library), at this point the iphoto library icon is ghosted out and can not be opened. If I drag and drop the image from iPhoto to the CS2 icon in the dock it opens as a jpg not the RAW file I need. If I try clicking my way to the folder from the left side of the finder, my name/pictures/iphoto library this is as far as I can go. There's something strange going on here. How can you go to a folder only one way and not the others? There seems to "hidden" folders now.
So... My question (finally), how can I simply open RAW files from iPhoto 08 in CS2?

In iPhoto's Advanced preferences select the checkbox under RAW Photos: "Use RAW when using external editor". That will open the Cr2 file in the raw editor. To get the edit to show in iPhoto you'll need to click on the Open Image button so the jpg version is created with the edits you made to the RAW file. Then when you save you'll need to navigate in the Save window to the Modified folder and save it into the folder representing the event that the original is in. It's not easy. I've not done much with RAW, just a few tests, so there may be an easier way to get iPhoto to recognize the edited version.
If you don't use the Open File and close iPhoto won't display the edits you made to the RAW file.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Ability to process several raw files with the same content but with different exposure into the single picture

Can you add to the Lightroom an ability to process several raw files with the same content but with different exposure into the single picture?
Base raw files can be given with exposure bracketing during shooting, for example.
The goal - to get maximum details in darks and lights (if we use the "ligths recovery" or "fill lights" we lose the quality because raw file just have no all required information).
The similar (but not the same, only the idea) thing - is High Dynamic Range Photography in Adobe Photoshop
    Thank you

The plugin LR/Enfuse does this already. And of course Photomatix have a plugin available for Lightroom. This essentially amounts to pixel editing, which is beyond the range of Lightroom's metadata editing.

  • Opening RAW files with Bridge CS3

When I try to open a RAW file from Bridge CS3 it defaults to Mac Preview and does not open Photoshop Elements 6 RAW converter.  If I open a RAW file outside of Bridge it work fine.  What did I do wrong??   Using a iBook G4 with OS 10.5.8 and Photoshop Elements 6 and new Camera RAW plugin for my Panasonic LX3 camera.  hjz62

Bridge requires the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw to be installed.  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4581 Adobe states that this is the latest version of camera raw compatible with PSE-6 Mac. Others may have additional information.
As to the issue of defaulting to Apple software, this issue is usually a configuration problem wherein certain file extensions are granted permissin to be summarily opened by a given program. ((Right clicking any given file, then choosing "open with", and selecting a given program  is a work around, but to avoid this step, you need to reconfigure your program settings.)) This is the Windows file path/solution, I am not familiar with Mac. I am confident that the issus is the same

FCE can use DV or AIC video formats natively.  Any other format will need to be converted to one of those two if you want to avoid constant rendering.  The clips you use must match the Sequence settings.

  • Using RAW images with CS6

Hi - im not sure if there is another forum that answers this question.
So far the only way I have been able to open up a RAW image in photoshop which then automatically launches camera RAW is by going to finder > iphoto > open package contents - to find the original file. Ive been told that can possible damage/corrupt yout image library. Is there another safe way to deal with RAW images? Right now iPhoto will open a raw image with photoshop the problem is it throws it over into PS and claims its a JPEG.
Maybe im just not as educated as I need to be with the Apple software.
    Thanks in advance!
    J

Set ACR as your preferred editor in iPhoto
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> Advanced -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor.
Then check the box underneath 'Use Raw when using external editor'
Now your Raw will be sent there.
But getting it back is a bit of a kludge
You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots.

  • Difference in TIFF and RAW import with ACR (how to fix)?

I'm experimenting with a workflow, so whilst this may seem like an odd thing to want to make work, I have a geniune reason for doing what's described below:
    I have Canon CR2 RAW files from a 7D, Photoshop CS6 13.01 64bit, with ACR 7.1.0.354, running on Windows 7 64bit.
    1. I import a CR2 image via ACR, with no changes to any sliders; opening it as Adobe RGB (1998); 16bit
    2. I then save the image as a TIFF file, leaving "ICC Profile: Abode RGB (1998)" selected in the Color section of the file save dialog
    3. If I then close all files, and reopen the CR2 and TIFF image, they (as expected) appear to be identical
    4. After closing all files again, I then open the CR2 and make an exposure adjustment (e.g. -1.00)
    5. Using Bridge, I select the TIFF file, right click and select Open in Camera Raw. I make the same exposure adjustment as for the CR2
    6. Now, the adjusted CR2 and adjusted TIFF are different. A colour shift is noticable, and for a severe exposure change (i.e. +4.00) the shadow detail in the CR2 is a lot lighter
Here are two cropped areas from the files (with a 4 stop push), showing some branch/leaf and grass detail respectively. The TIFF has a greener colour cast for the grass, but much darker shadows:
    TIFF
    RAW
I appreciate that the CR2 is still a RAW file, and as such has the original Bayer pattern data, but is there any way I can make ACR adjustments to a TIFF (taken from a CR2) to behave in the same way as the original CR2?

ssprengel, Jeff, JJMack - thanks for the constructive replies
station_two - after your use of mildly aggressive language ("What seems to escape your grasp") in your first post, I had money that your subsequent response(s) would be on the lines of "I'm too busy to explain it to people like you". Thankyou for confirming my expectations (sometimes I wonder if some people engage in forum discussions for the sole purpose of trying to get themselves [and possibly others] riled)
So... back to trying to find a construcive solution: If the algorthirms for the adjustments in ACR do operate directly on the Bayer data (before demosiacing to RGB per pixel) then operating on the TIFF (or any other demosaiced RGB data) will indeed be a non-starter. Without (probably unlikely) input from an Adobe developer however, we can't know for sure.
    > So RAW numbers after debayering to RGB are linear with numbers of photons within a particular color (R, G or B), while TIF numbers are assumed to be linear with human-vision sensitivity
Understood (I'm familiar with gamma, camera sensor behaviour, exposing to the right etc). Ultimately though, it should be possible to produce an RGB file that is also linear (i.e. not adjusted for human vision) to then bring back into ACR. However, if that's simply not possible with ACR, then that's also a non-starter (and wouldn't help anyway if the adjustments operate on the Bayer data directly).
I did look briefly into opening the RAW as a smart object, but sadly I didn't think that'd help. The goal I'm trying to achieve is an experimental idea to blend parts of images together from multiple exposures; but to achieve a single RAW file with that data as if it came from the camera (thus it could be brought into ACR to get the benefit of - from my point of view - the useful and intuitive adjustment sliders). Clearly that would require reverse engineering the particular RAW format for the camera being used (and each and every camera you'd want to support) - thus, it's not really practical.
I'd hoped to be able to convert (without edits) the RAW images into TIFF (or some other lossless RGB container that I can read programmatically), do the blending to produce a single TIFF, and then bring that back into ACR.
Whilst it's more convoluted, I suppose it might be possible to generate the unedited TIFF files purely for the purposes for getting data about the images, then using that to create a set of masks. Then, as Jeff suggests, perform adjustments to the RAW files in ACR, and use the masks to blend the imported (and now corrected) RAWs into one image. Not ideal, but perhaps worthy of more experimentation.
