ok, so I have cs3 and i am trying to update so that i can view raw files.
.nef files,
it wont let me view them.
i download the 4.6 plugin.
and nothing,.
i need to edit these pics.
someone help me pleasssse

Have you checked to see if your camera is actually supported by 4.6? There are later releases but they require newer versions of CS.

Lightroom 1.4.1 does not support native (NEF) files from the D700 because the camera didn't even exist when it was released. To get support you have two options: upgrade to Lr 2.x (paid for upgrade) or convert your NEF files to DNG.
DNG converter 5.4 can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/ (see right hand side of page)

Elements 7 on windows 7, have downloaded a new version on raw for my new camera eos50d still unable to read the raw files help

Hope someone can help me with this one, have a new computer with windows 7 as the operating system, have installed elements 7 and have now purchased the 50d, as i shoot in raw have tried to open the file but elements is unable to read the raw file, have looked on various threads and have downloaded the new version of raw, this version is saved in my download file directory, have copied across these files to the elements folder but i still cannot read my raw file for the 50d, is there something i have missed.

be sure not to have the older version of camera raw plugin in the same folder as that of new one. dont even rename it. Remove it and store it in some other location in case you need to revert back the changes. The camera raw plugin is called : Camera Raw

PSE 9 not opening Raw files - help please!!

I just had my laptop hard drive wiped and re-installed due to a virus, and have re-installed my PSE 9. It worked fine before, opening and processing raw files, but now it says it cannot recognise these files. Help someone - why is this happening and can it be fixed?? It looks to me like my Elements interface has changed too - has it been updated?

Make sure the camera raw plug-in is up to date. Open the software and click Help >>Updates
Check all the available updates and install.

Fuji X-E2 raw file help

So, I updated from my X Pro 1 to the new Fuji X-E2, now LIghtroom doesn't recognize the file. I have a Lightroom 5 that I can install, but it wants a newer version of Windows. Is it possible to get the new Fuji X-E2 files to be read in Lightroom 4? Please help, this is very frustrating.

Lr 4 requires Windows Vista or later.
Support for the Fuji X-E2 needs LR 5.3 or ACR 8.3.
To get LR 4 to work with Fuji X-E2 raw files you will have to use the Adobe DNG Converter 8.3 to convert the Fuji Raw files to DNG and then import into LR 4.x

Photoshop CS4 smart object template just overwrote a raw file - HELP

So. I've been working in Photoshop extensively for about 6 years now and I am well aware that nothing we do in Photoshop or Lightroom is supposed to overwrite a raw file. I'm not talking about changing it to something a little lighter or darker, I'm talking about replacing a picture of one baseball player with another one - and the original? Gone.
Here's what happened: I have a poster template that contains several layers, 7 of which are smart objects. I change the pictures in the template by right-clicking the smart object layer and selecting "replace smart object," browsing to the new image, selecting, and here is what SHOULD happen: the target picture opens in Adobe camera raw, I make some small edits, click done or okay or something similar, and that new image has replaced the old one in the template. What DID happen was this: I followed the procedure above and selected my target raw file, the picture that was already in the template (the one I was trying to replace with my target file) opened in Adobe camera raw. I thought - Hey, that's wierd! Closed the ACR dialog and tried again. Same thing happened. I opened lightroom and saw - to my HORROR - that the target file had been changed to the same image that was in the template.
If it clarifies: pictures of player A (who played in 2009) is in all of the smart object layers in my template. I want to make that poster be of player B (who played in 2012) so I begin replacing all the smart objects. When I get to the 3rd image in the poster template, Photoshop overwrites my raw file of player B with the smart object photo of Player A. There were no photos of player A on the network drive that the picture of Player B was on. But there's one now. My raw file shows that it was modified about 10 minutes ago.
We tried undoing in Photoshop. That did nothing. We tried deleting the xmp file. That did nothing. We removed it from the lightroom catalog and reimported it. It is now a picture of Player A from 2009 and my picture of Player B from 2012 is just gone.
Anybody have any idea what this could be and how we could avoid it in the future?

No File is written Photoshop is not a File Editor its a Document editor that has many data structures for different layer types. When you replace the contents of a smart object you will be put into a "Place" file selection dialog if you choose a raw file it should have the same orientation as the image being replaced because of the associated transform. When you choose a RAW file ACR will open and you can change the conversion settings however there will be no Open Image button instead there will be an OK button. There is also a save image button and you can save a RAW file that is a DNG file not a CR2 file. Like the DNG converter. If you click the OK button the embedded object in the smart object layer will be replaced with a copy of the selected RAW file and the current ACR settings. Again there is no file written Photoshop is not a File editor just the embedded smart object data is replaced in Photoshop smart object layer's data structure.
I do not think the use of smart objects in you process caused what you are experiencing and because it only happens once an a while I feel its more likely caused by some human error made during the processing in those cases. I would look elsewhere for what causing the overlay. In the place file selection dialog it is possible to rename files perhaps even by accident. Programs like LR and Bridge can rename and copy files perhaps overlay other files.

I recently had to reinstall CS5.1 on my mac (OSX 10.9.5) after formatting the hard drive and for some reason I'm no longer able to open RAW-files, neither in photoshop nor bridge. I have tried to remove and reinstall CS5, update my mac and camera raw, but nothing seams to help. I read somewhere else on the forum that it could help to delete the Camera Raw folder in the library, but that didn't help either. Any tips to what might be wrong?

I've never known any Adobe download of a whole application to install a newer version than the original. You must have updated it yourself somehow, or you did not use the Adobe-provided Uninstaller to uninstall it in the first place. Never just "delete" an application; always use the Uninstaller.
By "deleting the ACR plug-in" do you mean the Camera Raw folder in the library? In that case, it was recreated when I deleted and reinstalled the software again, so it should not be any problem. "Deleting" as opposed to uninstalling was my first worry; but no, I wasn't referencing any Folder, but the plug-in itself.
Note that in the correct path to the Camera Raw plug-in there is no such thing as a "Camera Raw folder". There is a Camera Raw folder in a different path inside the root-level Library, but that one has absolutely nothing to do with the ACR plug-in nor with anything else we have been discussing here. That latter "Camera Raw Folder" does not contain the plug-in; it contains only Adobe Patch Files, CameraProfiles and LensProfiles folders. Don't mess with that one.

Cannot download updates, and I can no longer work with RAW files without them. Help!

I used to be able to get Bridge to read RAW files, but I cannot any longer. I think I need an updated plug-in, but when I try to go to help-updates and download them, the message I get for all three (Adobe Bridge CS5 4.0.5 update, Photoshop 12.0.4 update for Photoshop CS5, and Photoshop Camera Raw 6.7 Update) is this: "There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later." I have tried shutting down and restarting the computer a few times over the course of several days, and have even tried updating my mac software. I always get the same message. Please help! Thank you!!

Ok, Adobe. I'm having a huge problem with your customer service here. You list no email or phone to contact you, yet I have spent hundreds of dollars on a product I can't use unless I can get an answer to this question, which appears to be a problem with your system. Help! Can't open Raw files in lightroom 2!

I have been editing my raw files in Adobe bridge but I just purchased Lightroom 2 and would like to start to use it but I can't! I go to import my raw files and by they end, it says my files were not the right type or corrupted but I can see them in Bridge. Does anyone know if there is a plugin or something for lightroom 2 that I'm obviously missing to fix this? THANKS so much to however has the answer.

Might it be that they were sRAW or mRAW, and now you're importing full size RAWs?

Unable to open raw files from canon d70 in elements 12 help

hi. just purchased elements 12 as i was told it would open my canon d70 raw files. have installed elements 12 and done the update from the update box in elements but still it wont open raw files. any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is probably a way to hack your system into work with ACR 8.3 using the plug-in ZIP file from this page and copying it manually to the specific folder where it needs to go:

Then install the DNG Converter 8.3 as mentioned in the page, above.

Can you confirm which Camera Raw PSE 12 is actually using by loading the editor and going to Help -> About Plug-in -> Camera Raw.
If you do Help -> Updates it may install the latest camera raw of 8.4 - not on XP or Vista systems.
Do you use any Nikon software to download the images? The older versions have been known to corrupt the files.

Of course not. You need ACR (Camera Raw) version 2.4. Version 2.0 does NOT support DNGs.
After you correctly install ACR 2.4 according to the instructions on the download page and after you relaunch Photoshop, you need to Purge the Cache for each folder.

Nope. Point the DNG Converter to a folder containing RAW files, not to the raw files themselves. The DNG Converter works on Folders containing raw files, not on individual files.

Forget that. It does NOT apply to Photoshop 8.x. In CS3, you can have ACR hosted either by Photoshop or by Bridge. Photoshop 8.x doesn't even have Bridge.
