Raw file import from Olympus E410
how do I import an .ORF file from my Olympus E410? Is their a plugin I can get?
No, like ACR you have to wait for a new release with new camera upgrades. Does the camera do DNG? if so use that for now. Or use the camera maker's software to get to DNG if you can.

Why won't Aperture 2 support RAW files imported from Canon 60D when it does from my Olympus DSLR?
I'm afriad the fact that your Olympus dSLR is supported is no relevance.
The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Support for individual camera models has to be added one by one, and Apple will update the OS to work with the most recent version of the software. That's an incentive for you to keep up-to-date. So, for support for your 60D you'll need 10.6.5 plus Aperture 3 and/or iPhoto 11.

Can I "cache" large RAW files imported from network drive on local drive?
I've seen discussions similar to this topic, regarding "offline" editing, but not exact answers I'm looking for.
I'm copying RAW files from a shoot onto my network RAID drive in a per-album folder, from where I then import into a new LR catalog (I'm using LR 4.1) on my Windows laptop for that album.
I'm finding that editing RAW files on a network drive from a wireless laptop is awfully slow (not to mention not being able to continue the work offline somewhere else), so I'd like to cache those files on my speedy SSD drive just until I'm done editing and exporting/publishing that album.
I back up my per-album catalog onto the network folder alongside the RAW files since that's my IT-managed master repository. When I'm done editing, I'd purge the cached files and just keep the catalog previews on my limited capacity SSD.
So, is there a way to tell LR to, for one/all files imported from a location (in my case a network folder), look in an alternate location for the identical files? Since I create per-album catalogs in per-album folders, there wouldn't be filename clashing. Either LR can provide this caching behavior on its own or I'd manually copy files from the network folder to a local folder and tell LR to look there first.
I don't really want to make copies of files into secondary folders within LR since then it's a hassle to merge edits on the cached copy to its master copy (I haven't done this, but I'd imagine so).
Thanks for your workflow tips.
ErhhungHave you tried locating your ACR Raw cache on this SSD drive, also ensuring that the size limit of this cache is large enough, to keep a goodly chunk of these Raw images all in play at the same time?
My understanding is that for performance reasons, LR will be caching your Raw data locally in any case - on conventional hard disk by default. And it will be doing so in an intermediate half-converted form (demosaiced into "sensor RGB space" but not translated into "picture RGB values" - the latter process varies depending on your live Develop adjustments).
So long as this cache has not run short, and reallocated space for something else, LR should (as far as I know) not be needing to go back to the network drive to re-fetch actual Raw content. And keeping that cache somewhere fast rather than somewhere slow, should improve responsiveness.
I imagine, though, that LR will continually check the availability and the unchanged timestamp of the real source file; and wouldn't let you carry on working from automatically cached data otherwise. -
Dates wrong in RAW files imported from Canon Rebel
I recently imported a large number of pictures from my Canon Rebel via my iPod into iPhoto 6.02. There were a mix of JPEG and RAW files, the dates & times for the JPEGs were fine, the RAW files were wrong, some back at Dec 31 1970, others were 21 hours earlier than the JPEG files.
The date and time on the camera were correct and still are.
The same photos look OK in Adobe Elements 4.0, though I can see the same bad dates in part of the EXIF data reported by Adobe. Adobe shows me several versions of dates though and others are correct.
Anyone seen this, know what's wrong?

I have downloaded RAW plug-in 8.4 and it now appears on my download list, but PS11 tells me I have version 7.4. This probably is why I can't open the file. Any ideas?
Can't blame you for being confused between Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Photoshop Elements, but you're asking in the wrong forum.

Fuji x-trans raw files import extremely slow
WIn 7 pro 3.6 AMD quad core 16 gb ram 1.2 tb raid 0 WD Velociraptor drives. Lightroom 5.6
I have a fairly quick system and my 24mp Sony raw files import and render full sized previews reasonably quickly -but it takes about 5x longer for my Fuji X-T1 raw files to import and render full size previews. If I import into Capture One Pro 7 or 8 or into Photo Ninja both the Sony and the Fuji files import and render previews quickly. It is only Lightroom that is so incredibly slow with the Fuji raw files.
I have used LR since version one and my files have always imported reasonably fast , however, the Fuji raw files have been slow to import from the very first import. Ex - yesterday I imported 312 raf files (Fuji raw files) and it took 31 minutes to complete. I also imported 257 Sony raw files and the import plus full sized preview rendering was completed in just under 5 minutes.
Am I missing something in the preferences or import workflow?
Thanks for any help
BObThanks for the quick reply! :-)
The setup is identical as when I work with my Nikon-files; I always start by "manually" copy the files from the memorycard to correct location/disk.
In LR I use the "Add" option when I import to my catalog, so the file transfer is not part of the equation....
Even the large files from Nikon D810 is faster to "add" than the files from the X-T1.
But, as you write, it might come down to X-Trans-files (RAF) is not as optimal for Adobe processing as the Nikon raw files (NEF)...

Bug? Raw+Jpeg imports from an iPad mini
Hi Everyone
I've come across a very strange importing issue with iPhoto 9.6 (910.29). I'm always on the go so I use my iPad mini as photo storage until I gain access to a computer. I’d take my pictures on the camera and then I’ll plug the sd card to the iPad and copy everything that is on the card (via the Apple Lightning to SD card Camera reader).
I take pictures in (1) RAW only, (2) RAW+Jpeg and (3)Jpeg only.
When I import from the camera to the MacBook Pro directly via USB:
all the 3 formats are properly imported.
When I import from the iPad in iPhoto:
The pictures shot in (1) RAW only and (3)Jpeg only are imported properly
But when I import the (2) RAW+Jpeg ones, iPhoto will only import the Jpeg versions and will give me the error message "Unreadable file: The following files could not be imported. The file is in an unrecognized format" for the RAW versions of the same image.
Here is what I do not understand:
- The RAW format that my camera uses (.RW2 for Panasonic FZ1000) is supported so there shouldn't be any issue.
- (1) RAW only pictures are correctly imported
- all formats are correctly imported when importing directly from the camera.
It seems this bug only affects RAW+Jpeg imports from the iPad?
Has anyone come across this issue before and if so, is there a fix or workaround? It is not that much of an issue as the RAW only files can still be imported from the iPad but I find this issue very curious.
Thanks in advance for the help. Not sure about the fix but the workaround is to not shoot Raw+Jpeg, which is pretty pointless anyway, as importing the Raw to iPhoto means it creates a Jepg preview, so you end up with Raw +Jpeg+Jepg...

How do you process a RAW file ARW (from a Sony a7R camera) in Elements 11?
How do you process a RAW file (ARW) from Sony a7R camera in Elements 11? Elements 11 does not seem to accept a ARW file.
Doug2014
For editing of the Sony a7R raw image in Photoshop Elements Camera Raw need the following ingredients
a. The Camera Raw version must support the camera that you are using, that is, the Sony a7R. Support for that camera did not come until Camera Raw version 8.3.
http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
b. The version of Camera Raw must be supported by the version of Photoshop Elements. Camera Raw 8.3 is not supported until Photoshop Elements 12.
The choices would appear to be:
a. Switch to Photoshop Elements 12
or
b. Use the DNG Converter to convert the Raw image to .dng
If all you have is Premiere Elements 11 which I do not think is the case, the Camera Raw plug-in allows you only to import the raw or dng image into the project for inclusion there - no Camera Raw dialog editing. But the same Camera Raw version - Camera Support - Premiere Elements version support still exists.
Please review.
Thanks.

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen!
My question concerns the impossibility to open RAW-files directly from the program Adobe Bridge. At the moment when you open a RAW-file from Adobe Bridge by double-clicking, RAW-file is opened only in Photoshop. In the settings Adobe Bridge - in "open RAW-files by double-clicking in Adobe Camera Raw» box is checked. When you try any changes in the settings Adobe Bridge system displays a message:
Bridge's parent application is not active. Bridge requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.
The entire line of Adobe products on my computer updated to the latest updates. Previously, a family of products Adobe Photoshop on your computer is not set. Computer - PC, Windows 7 Enterprises.<moved from Adobe Creative Cloud to Bridge General Discussion>

Problem printing PDF picture files imported from JPG using HP Colour InkJet cp1700 printer
When I print PDF picture files imported from JPG using an HP Colour InkJet cp1700 printer, the picture spills over. A wide range of other PDF files print OK. Have tried things such as configuring the printer to scale to letter size, etc,, but without success. Have a Windows 7 64 bit computer and Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 9.5.5. Any ideas?
Hello there! Welcome to the forums @rt70
I understand you're having some issues with printing PDF files from a website on Windows 7.
I would personally suggest trying to print from that website using a different web browser. If you're using Internet Explorer, try FireFox or Chrome, for example.
You can also try running the Print and Scan Doctor tool, that will search and try and fix printing issues.
If you have any issues that continue, please let me know what they are and which programs, websites, and web browsers you have tried, along with the results from running the diagnostic tool above.
Good luck and have a great day

Cannot open .avi files imported from Nikon d90 in Adobe Premiere 6.0.
Cannot open .avi files imported from Nikon d90 in Adobe Premiere 6.0.
When I try to open the file I get the following error message:
"cannot open that file
the file uses an unsupported file compression format"
I really need urgent help with this so if you know a soloution, please post it!I don't do mjpeg so you will have to search the forum for advice
But... having a playback codec installed does not ALWAYS mean the codec will work for Premiere editing
After you search the forum and find the (I think free) codec vendors, you will need to install fresh so Premiere will "see" the codec for editing
Or, Google
convert mjpeg avi
To convert to DV AVI type 2 with 48khz sound so the files will "natively" edit in Premiere
My GUESS (you didn't say) is the d90 is a STILL camera that has a video function, not a true camcorder
If you plan to do much video work, you need a tape-based DV camcorder so you use Firewire to do a digital transfer as a "real" AVI that Premiere may edit without conversion or extra software
For a Firewire DV Camera - look at Panasonic PV-GS320 or GS500 (Note that I have not used either, but they have good reviews)

Why will CS4 not open DNG files converted from Olympus E-M1 raw files?
For several years I have been able to use the DNG Converter to convert .ORF raw files from my Olympus E-M1 and then open them for processing in CS4. Suddenly CS4 quit recognizing these DNG files saying "Photoshop could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file"
I have not changed any preferences. I'm using E-M1 v3.0, DNG Converter v8.3.0.141 on a Mac. I have deleted DNG converter several times, even reinstalled an earlier version but nothing changes.
However, CS4 will open DNG files converted from Pentax raw .PEF files from my K-5. Weird. It's the Olympus raw DNG conversions that won't open.
I can view the DNG converted files in question in Mac's Preview just fine but not CS4. Any ideas will be appreciated.Be sure the DNG Converter's compatibility is set to provide support for your version of ACR:

.Updated to Lightroom 5.7 to accommodate the Nikon D810. Upon importing RAW files to the files become corrupted when they are selected to be viewed or edited.
I am using Windows 7, 64 bit, with 8 GB Ram.
Any help would be appreciated. There are several likely sources of corruption, and video card would be far down on my list of possible suspects.
The transfer from camera card to hard disk is the most likely place for problem, either the card reader or USB cable can go bad. Another likely source of problems is the computer's hard disk is starting to fail. The camera card itself may be bad. And lastly, the memory in the computer may be malfunctioning. -
Cannot import from Olympus E-P1 in LR-3
Hi. I have an Olympus E-P1 and a Nikon D90. Both imported picture files (JPG) without issues in LR-2 (both v2.6 and 2.7). Just upgraded to LR-3 and the Nikon exports fine but the photos on the Olympus are not recognized by the new import dialog box. I have (and had) the Olympus set to MTP mode and can work around this awkwardly by resetting to "mass storage" mode but that seems clumsy.
My question is, of course, what changed? Am I missing something obvious? LR 2.7 was still left on the computer and I retested it with the Olympus... worked perfectly. Using the Mac version of LR-3 at 64 bits. Any suggestions would be much appreciated... Thanks! AndyThanks both. Getting photos on my computer isn't really my main concern. My iMac has an SD slot but I have always imported from the cameras w/o incident and it is (much) faster and I'm not wearing out card slots. My issue is just that any camera I have had always worked with LR2 and LR1 before that. I upgrade to LR3 and there is an unexpected change. I wanted to know why. As it turns out, LR3 will import from the Olympus in Mass Storage mode as mentioned without much difficulty (although the device now has no name) so I can live with it but why for only one of the two cameras? I should be grateful since the Nikon doesn't give me a choice with respect to exporting mode and that's the camera that works as before. One more detail. When I'm in the desired MTP mode, LR3 DOES recognize the Olympus by name (my first post was misleading), just not the photos. Anyhow, thanks again for replying!
