Raw file support for Canon S50

Apparently Aperture/Mac OS X does not support this format out of the box (but does support the S60 & S70).
1) Any way to trick it into understanding those files ?
2) If there is no way to solve (1), what is the best workflow for working with those files ?
Right now I import into Lightroom and then export as TIFF 16 bits followed by in import in Aperture. But they are no longer considered "RAW". If I export the files to DNG in Lightroom, Aperture only sees the thumbnail part and the photos have a ridiculously low resolution.
Any tips ?

I suspect it might have been released a bit late for the next camera update version, it really depends on how soon Adobe get their hands on a camera.

  • Raw file converter for Canon EOS 5D Mark iii ?

When will Aperture 3 have a raw file converter for Canon's new 5D model? Should I work with JPEGs in the mean while or is there another better solution?
    Best regards, Markus

    Markus,
    see this long thread
Canon 5D Mk III - RAW update?
I would shoot in raw+jpeg while you are waiting and use the Adobe dng converter,
    see Adobe's Camera Raw Converter
Then, when the raw is supported by Aperture, reprocess your masters.

  • Missing raw file driver for Canon S90

I miss raw file driver for Canon S90. The software delivered with the camera works, but it doesn't work in finder, Aperure and so on, just in Canons own software. When will the driver be available for SL?

Apple hasn't said anything about it, but they're always quiet on everything (I think this works to their advantage for new products, but it works to their detriment for product updates.)
Anyway, they recently released the latest Camera RAW update and surprised a lot of people by not including the S90. Adobe had problems with the S90 -- images would "load" but looked poor. I can only guess Apple also had problems and decided to push it to a later date rather than hold up the whole stack of RAW camera updates people had been waiting on (typically they release an update with support for a list of cameras).

  • Raw file support for D600

I cannot open raw files for new D600 in CS5

The D600 has only been out less than a week.
None of the camera manufacturers share the details of their formats , ex NEF, CR2 etc.
Each single model has a slightly different version of their proprietary file formats. So the NEF from a D600 is different from the NEF of the D700, D4, D800 and so on. The same with Canon, Sony,  etc.
It takes time for Adobe to reverse engineer the NEF for the D600. They usually release new versions of ACR that support the newest cameras every 3-4 months.
Until then you can download the latest DNG converter and convert your NEF to DNG that can then be read by any version of ACR.
    For Mac:   http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5388
    For Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5389
But be aware that the newest version of ACR when it is released will only work with CS6
If you have CS5 or earlier, you need to continue with the DNG workaround or upgade to CS6.
You could also get Lightroom which is cheaper. But neither PS or Lightroom can directly open the D600 at this moment. Patience grasshopper!

  • RAW Camera support for Canon EOS 500D?

I just bought the Canon EOS 500D and now Aperture returns an "unsupported image format" when I shoot in RAW. I have the latest RAWCameraUpdate.pkg with version 2.5.
    Still nothing.
    Help!?

What you can do for now is use Aperture to organize and collect your images while you wait for a RAW update. In the interim, if you need to get images out for printing, email, web, etc. export the master and use the very underrated DPP (Digital Photo Professional) that came with your camera. It does a very good job with RAW conversion of Canon files and actually gives you some advantages over Aperture and ACR/Ligthroom in that it will let you apply your camera technologies that you lose when you shoot RAW over JPEG.
It's rather limited in what it can do in comparison to Aperture or Lightroom, but for simply getting excellent images from your RAW files, with basic edits like cropping, sharpening, and exposure it's very good.

  • Epson raw file support for Aperature

does aperature support epson raw file? .ERF?

I just purchased Aperture last night (at the new Apple Store on 5th Ave.).
I have been using the Epson R-D1 for a year and have a few thousand ERF (Epson Raw Files). Converting ERF to editable files in PS has been slow indeed. I was hoping Aperture would liberate me from this.
SORRY TO REPORT, "APERTURE" DOES NOT RECOGNIZE "ERF" FILES.
Regrettably, I did not do my homework. Fortunately, my son will be able to use Aperture with his Nikon D100.
I found this post in my search to see if anyone has had any better luck... if there are plug-ins, work arounds, Apple support, etc.
    Anyone have suggestions?
    Thanks

  • Raw Processing Support for Canon D5

Is this in the current 1.01 version of Aperture. I thought it was but saw some posts that make me rethink my recollection.

"Optimized" means that images from the camera have undergone an extra level of quality review, with the goal of delivering the best quality rendering.
As has been mentioned elsewhere on this forum, the RAW decode quality - for all supported cameras - has been greatly improved in v1.1.

  • RAW File Support for editing in external editors

Is there some way to make A3 to allow me to pass the RAW file to an external editor and then pass it back with all the non destructive changes made?
    Basically A3 -> CaptureNX2 -> A3 with file changes?
I love the interface for A3 and the ease of workflow to do other things with my images. However not being able to have my all RAW workflow (which i use currently) is a deal breaker....

I spent some trying Catapult this evening. It needs some work:
    1. It requires you to use Aperture 3 in 32 bit mode.
    2. First attempt to import resulted in both the plug-in and Aperture 3 spinning their wheels indefinitely. I had to shut down Aperature and restart.
    3. Second attempt wasn't working well because the plug-in created a new set of drop and pick up directories, but was not looking in the right places.
    4. I deleted both sets of directories and created tried a third time. Interestingly, the third attempt did not create the directories, so I had to manually create them. The import process caused Aperture 3 to crash.
I've sent email asking the developer if they will be updating to 64 bit and testing with Aperture 3 anytime soon...

  • Sony cameras A7 raw files support?

looking for Sony A7 raw files support for i-photo.

    1. Well that's not actually true. There is frequently a lag between the release of the camera and Adobe offering Raw support. They are often faster to add it, true, but they do not "always" get converters out before the camera hits the market.
    2. I'm not really sure just what this proves, of course. How often do you change cameras?

  • Is there a update for Photoshop Elements 8 that will support raw files from a Canon T3i 600d?

Is there a update for Photoshop Elements 8 that will support raw files from a Canon T3i 600d?

    You have two alternatives:
    (1) Upgrade to PSE 9,10 or 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.3
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.3
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Why won't Aperture 2 support RAW files imported from Canon 60D when it does from my Olympus DSLR?

Why won't Aperture 2 support RAW files imported from Canon 60D when it does from my Olympus DSLR?

I'm afriad the fact that your Olympus dSLR is supported is no relevance.
The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Support for individual camera models has to be added one by one, and Apple will update the OS to work with the most recent version of the software. That's an incentive for you to keep up-to-date. So, for support for your 60D you'll need 10.6.5 plus Aperture 3 and/or iPhoto 11.
